關於an overview of Stealth Boy devices,參見Stealth Boy

The Stealth Boy is a consumable item in Fallout: New Vegas.

Characteristics[]

It generates a modulating field that transmits the reflected light from one side of an object to the other.[1] The end result makes the wearer almost invisible to the untrained eye.[2]

After the war, a variant known as the Stealth Boy Mark II prototype is being studied by Doc Henry. His research focuses on the effects of the device, stating that although the prototype's purpose was to use less power, unintended negative effects of the device's modulating field includes permanent neurochemical changes, such as schizophrenia, especially among Nightkin.[3][4][5][6]

Variants[]

  • Stealth Boy Mark II prototype
  • Chewed Stealth Boy

Locations[]

  • One can be found in the Goodsprings schoolhouse, in a locked safe (Lockpick 25).
  • Carried by Joe Cobb.
  • Several can be found at the REPCONN test site, including found next to the dead nightkin near the front door. Another can be found in the basement, on one of the tables in the room with the sign reading "Food."
  • One can be found in the middle of Jack Rabbit Springs, besides a skeleton found lying near an upright post visible on the hillside.
  • Three may be found at the Hidden cazador nest near Brewer's beer bootlegging.
  • One will be given by Lily in Jacobstown when adding her as a companion in the quest Guess Who I Saw Today.
  • Atticus in the Caesar's Legion safehouse can give two to the Courier for free, each time they encounter him there during their visits.
  • On very rare occasions, some merchants may sell a Stealth Boy.
  • Old World Blues (add-on) Every repeat of the "Robot Compliance Test" after passing it the first time at the X-13 research facility yields a Stealth Boy in the reward safe. The three other tests can also be repeated and give random rewards each time, including Stealth Boys.
  • Old World Blues (add-on) In the nightstalker test area of the facility, shooting the forcefield in the ceiling of the small room with the Strange Still with an upgraded sonic emitter will drop a Stealth Boy into the room.
  • Old World Blues (add-on) In the Y-17 medical facility located near the Auto-Doc in the center of the room, it will be on the floor close to the rubble surrounding the Auto-Doc.
  • Lonesome Road (add-on) Hopeville Missile Base, first story roof, one Stealth Boy on a ledge.
  • Lonesome Road (add-on) Marked men camp in a first floor ammunition box in one of the buildings.

Notes[]

  • Having Lily as a companion doubles the duration of the effect, for a time of up to 4 minutes.
  • The Chemist and Day Tripper perks also affect the Stealth Boy duration. Having all three affecting perks significantly increases Stealth Boy duration - up to 10 minutes, 38 seconds.
  • Stealth Boys temporarily increase the Sneak skill to 100, which affects stealth-related Speech checks.
  • Although it is considered a technological device, pulse grenades do not have any effect on the Stealth Boys.
  • Approaching the cattle pen at Brooks Tumbleweed Ranch reveals a nightkin who offers to sell a 'wind brahmin' (a tumbleweed) for all the Courier's caps. Originally, they would then give them a Stealth Boy as a gift. Killing the nightkin afterward (or pickpocketing them) produced another Stealth Boy, as well as all the caps back. But with the game patch released July 7–8, 2011, they will no longer give up a Stealth Boy and will take all of the caps instead, the only Stealth Boy that can still be obtained from the nightkin is by either killing or pickpocketing them.
  • There may be a bubble-like texture above the Pip-Boy when using the Stealth Boy, which disappears when the former's light turns on.
  • The effect lasts for one in-game hour, or 2 real-time minutes. Using an additional Stealth Boy when a previous one is still active will stack the duration, adding one in-game hour to the duration remaining from the previous Stealth Boy rather than resetting the duration to just one in-game hour.
  • With patch 1.4.0.525, Stealth Boys may randomly spawn in ammunition boxes.

  2. Museum of Technology placard: "This is the RobCo "Stealth Boy" Model 3001 Personal Stealth Device. Developed by Robert Mayflower, the Stealth Boy generates a modulating field that transmits the reflected light from one side of an object to the other making the bearer almost invisible to the untrained eye."
  3. The Courier: "Why is the Stealth Boy Mark II riskier?"
Henry: "The stealth field has been modulated to use less power and thus last longer, but for some reason it has pronounced negative effects on the user. However, these pronounced effects will allow me to pinpoint exactly what parts of the brain they're affecting. Unfortunately, I'll need to run the test on a live subject, and Marcus has encouraged me to investigate the Nightstalker mutation first."

  4. The Courier: "What are you working on?"
Henry: "The Nightkin have varying degrees of mental instability due their addiction to Stealth Boy use. I've been trying to come up with a cure. I'm currently investigating the local Nightstalker population since they seem to have developed a natural stealth field. I've also gotten my hands on a working Stealth Boy Mark II prototype, but that experiment is riskier. I'd rather not pursue that research just yet."

  5. The Courier: "What makes you think that the Nightstalker mutation isn't natural?"
Henry: "I've compared the brain chemistry of a Nightkin to one of the local Nightstalkers we killed. They both exhibit similar neurochemical changes. Now, I'm not claiming that Nightstalkers are running around wearing Stealth Boys, mind you. I just don't think it's all a coincidence."
    (Henry's dialogue)
  6. The Courier: "What's wrong with the Nightkin?"
Marcus: "Nightkin suffer schizophrenia from the Stealth Boys they're always using. One of the reasons I settled Jacobstown was so they could be cured. While they're in town, the Nightkin aren't allowed to have Stealth Boys so their craziness doesn't get worse. Trouble is the Nightkin don't like being visible, either. They don't take being exposed too well."
