Steel is a crafting component in Fallout 4.
Characteristics[]
A cheap but highly useful metal alloy of iron and carbon and/or other metals, steel is the most plentiful crafting material, along with wood, found in-game and is a component used in crafting to make various items, including weapon modifications and structures. Steel is also used to repair damaged power armor.

Shipments[]
- Shipments are available for sale by merchants in sizes of 50, 100 and 250 units. All vendor’s stock is replenished anywhere from 1-3 in-game days.
- All player settlement general goods merchants (regardless of tier) sell shipments of 250 steel.
- One non-player merchant (Lucas) has the 50 unit shipment. A few others (listed below) have the 100 unit shipment. All others who sell steel shipments sell the 250 unit size only.
- The following non-player merchants all sell shipments of steel:
- Lucas Miller, traveling merchant, sells a unique small shipment. (50).
- Myrna and Percy at Diamond City Surplus. (100 and 250).
- Brother Ogden in the Crater of Atom. (100 and 250).
- Rufus Rubins in Goodneighbor (100 and 250).
Sister Mai in the Nucleus. (100 and 250).- Cog in Acadia (100 and 250).
- Shelbie Chase in Nuka-Town market (250).
- Katelyn Alden in Nuka-Town market (250).
- A number of other general merchants sell only the 250 unit shipment, including Alexis Combes, Bluejay, Trashcan Carla, Daisy, Opal, Penny Fitzgerald, and Trudy. Tina De Luca and Rylee also sell this shipment. With the Far Harbor add-on, Brooks in Far Harbor and Pearl in Vault 118 at the Cliff's Edge Hotel also sell this shipment.
Locations[]
- A large amount can be acquired at the federal ration stockpile, as it contains a large amount of tin cans and cans.
- Once Spectacle Island is claimed as a settlement, one can scavenge the crates and washers of the beached barge on the northeast side of the island for a large amount of steel.
- Infinite amounts can be acquired from the Jamaica Plain Town Hall basement by collecting and re-activating the tripwires.
- 15 in the Cranberry Island supply shed.
- Most robot enemies drop several units of steel.
