Now we can start making the Brotherhood the benevolent organization I always wanted it to be. Our focus has to be helping the people of Appalachia. Reaching out our hand and making them feel safe. This is a new dawn. Be proud that you were a part of it.— Paladin Leila Rahmani

Paladin Leila Rahmani is the leader of the Brotherhood First Expeditionary Force in Appalachia.

Pre-War, Rahmani served in the National Guard, with a personal mission to help those that are less fortunate or otherwise cannot help themselves.[2] She was dispatched near Mariposa Military Base at the time of the Great War, learning of the formation of the Brotherhood of Steel, as well as easily transitioning into the group due to her prior military service.[3] During that time, she earned the characteristics of being a caring, yet bold leader, renowned for decisive action and inventive tactics. Although criticized by leadership, she has managed to attain a highly successful record, as well as being generally approachable by the lower-ranked members. After contact was lost with the Appalachian chapter of the Brotherhood, she was granted command of an expedition, consisting of four other members, by the Council of Elders to contact or otherwise find them.[4]

In 2103, Paladin Rahmani was dispatched from the Lost Hills Brotherhood of Steel to conduct a long-term mission in Appalachia. When contact was lost with the Expeditionary Force after crossing the Rocky Mountains, other officers at Lost Hills began to suspect Rahmani had deserted. Elder Roger Maxson refused to entertain the suggestion.

In response, Maxson issued a personal plea to Rahmani, imploring her to follow protocol despite any misgivings she had about her mission. Though Rahmani had not always seen eye-to-eye with Maxson, the two were close and he believed she was still loyal to the values of Brotherhood.[5]

Over the course of their months-long expedition, Rahmani and the rest of the First Expeditionary Force encountered a settlement under threat of raiders. Rahmani decided to equip them with government-issue weaponry they had found in a bunker. However, the weapons proved useless against the raider force, as the settlement was wiped out, with only two survivors. This incident would set off a division between Rahmani and Shin, with Shin wanting Rahmani to stand trial with the Council of Elders.[6]

While Russell Dorsey was fortifying the ATLAS Observatory, her voice could be heard across the region, becoming more audible with each passing week.[7]

Upon arriving at ATLAS after months of walking, she and her two remaining members, Knight Shin and Scribe Valdez, had encountered and recruited a number of initiates and Brotherhood hopefuls, seeking to officially join the organization. Dorsey was also made into an initiate upon their arrival.[8]

After arrival, Rahmani, Valdez and Shin began to re-establish communication with Lost Hills as ordered. They also took the inoculation against the Scorched, developed by the dwellers of Vault 76.[9]

Over the course of their reinforcing of Fort Atlas and establishing themselves in the region, Shin and Rahmani came into multiple conflicts of personality through various matters, the most important of which being the resurgence of government rocket launchers and other weaponry, used in the same incident that Shin believes Rahmani should be taken back to Lost Hills and tried for. However, after a super mutant attack on the base, Rahmani shocks and angers Valdez and Shin when she destroys the long-range transmitter, intentionally severing ties with the main body of the Brotherhood of Steel and seeking to form her own, independent Appalachian Chapter of the Brotherhood of Steel,[10][11] although the super mutants had caused temporary need of unity from both Rahmani and Shin.[12]

  • Rahmani mentions that she had known Elizabeth Taggerdy since the latter was a lieutenant.[13]
  • Rahmani carries a war glaive and uses it to destroy the transmitter during the events of Over and Out.
  • Rahmani pronounces Appalachia as "App-uh-LAYTCH-uh," rather than the correct pronounciation of "App-uh-LATCH-uh." The player character can call her out on this, and she responds by recognizing her mistake and expressing hope that the locals will be patient with "us Westerners" as they learn the local vernacular.[14]

Notable quotes

  • "Sometimes I think... no, I'm certain, that I was selected for this mission in order to remove my perspective and influence. The Elders saw my pull and experience as a threat, and knew I would never align with their goals... What better way to prevent my meddling than to send me packing on a cross country venture? I often wonder... if they ever expected me to report in at all. To make it here alive... Joke's on them, I guess."
  • "How long do you intend to sweep it under the rug like nothing happened? You're torturing yourself, Shin. And they deserve to know."

Leila Rahmani appears only Template:In FO76 Her voice was first heard in the Brotherhood broadcast, introduced in The Legendary Run, and she made her first full appearance in the Steel Dawn update. Her character was additionally expanded upon in the Steel Reign update.

Behind the scenes

During the Steel Reign quest Out of the Blue, Rahmani will say "Be salâmati!" (به سلامتی) during a toast to Knight Connors. This is a Persian expression meaning "to health" and is equivalent to "Cheers!" in English.

  1. Paladin Rahmani: "As a Paladin, I am the commander of the First Expeditionary Force to Appalachia, and by extension the ranking officer here at Fort Atlas."
    (Leila Rahmani's dialogue)
  2. Vault Dweller: "What branch of military were you in?"
Paladin Rahmani: "I was in the National Guard. Helping those who are less fortunate has always been a passion of mine. Being able to help protect my community was an experience I'll never forget. But now my mission is to protect you and the other people of Appalachia."
    (Leila Rahmani's dialogue)
  3. Vault Dweller: "Where are you from?"
Paladin Rahmani: "I'm originally from the California branch of the Brotherhood of Steel. I was dispatched near MarisposaIn-game spelling before the bombs fell. I learned that some members of the US military had created an organization to help people. I was also a member of the US military, joining up with the Brotherhood was a natural transition for me."
    (Leila Rahmani's dialogue)
  4. Fort Atlas terminal entries; Scribe Valdez's terminal, PALADIN Rahmani, Leila
  5. Encrypted broadcasts; Message 4
  6. Vault Dweller: "Tell me about the incident that split Rahmani and Shin."
Scribe Valdez: "Right... Those weapons you've been chasing? We found them in a government facility on our way to Appalachia. We were supposed to keep them to ourselves - that's how we operate - but then we ran across a settlement being threatened by raiders. We couldn't just leave them to die. We equipped them with the weapons we found, but it didn't help. It was a massacre. The whole place was wiped out. Everyone was killed, including Knight Connors, one of our own. The only survivors were two children we brought back with us, Marcia and Max. Knight Shin believes it's our duty to report this incident to Elder Maxson. Paladin Rahmani feels we'd be punished just for trying to help."
    (Odessa Valdez's dialogue)
  7. Brotherhood broadcast
  8. Vault Dweller: "What's your story?"
Russell Dorsey: "Me? I'm just a guy who wanted to be part of something special, a place to do something that really mattered. I picked up the messages the Brotherhood were broadcasting on the way here, and I came out ahead to help set up the place, hoping they'd let me join. They liked my initiative, and now I'm an Initiate. Nice bit of symmetry, I thought."
    (Russell Dorsey's dialogue)
  9. Vault Dweller: "Everyone here needs to get inoculated, or else you'll turn into Scorched."
Paladin Rahmani: "All of us here have taken the inoculation. But thank you for inquiring. It means a lot to me that the people of Appalachia care for the well-being of others."
    (Leila Rahmani's dialogue)
  10. Paladin Rahmani: "I destroyed the transmitter. The Elders are blind to the good we can do. We need to break free from their influence."
    (Leila Rahmani's dialogue)
  11. Fort Atlas terminal entries; Paladin Rahmani's terminal, Our Future in Appalachia
  12. Knight Shin: "Rahmani and I are both putting our full efforts into understanding the extent of the Super Mutant threat. Once that's dealt with, we'll have her betrayal to contend with. It may be some time before that happens."
    (Daniel Shin's dialogue)
  13. Vault Dweller: "Did you know anyone who was at Fort Defiance?"
Paladin Rahmani: "I knew Paladin Taggerdy back when she was a Lieutenant. What happened to her and her unit was absolutely horrible. The work that they did to combat the Scorched and protect their initial work on the inoculation was admirable. I'm worried about the lack of testing with the inoculation, but I suppose there wasn't much of a choice. It seems to be working well enough, for now."
    (Leila Rahmani's dialogue)
  14. Vault Dweller: "You know it's pronounced 'App-uh-LATCH-uh',In-game spelling right?"
Paladin Rahmani: "Ah, did I slip up again? Old habits die hard. I hope you'll be patient with us Westerners as we learn the local vernacular."
    (Leila Rahmani's dialogue)
