John Bishop is the middle-aged ruthless leader of the Bishop clan, a power-hungry family from New Reno in 2241.
Background
Bishop is a powerful man, controlling perhaps the most powerful family in the city and seeks to end New Reno's mob-based anarchy and bring it into an alliance with NCR and Vault City, working within the NCR's congressional system to legalize prostitution and gambling within the republic. NCR hired Bishop as a middleman, who in turn hired the raiders who harass Vault City, in the hopes that Vault City will turn to NCR for protection.
He is a neglectful husband. He is indifferent to the fidelity of his wife, Leslie Anne Bishop, and himself cheats whenever it suits him. He has also provided little guidance for his daughter, Angela Bishop, who like her mother is also promiscuous and a jet addict. Nevertheless, he is extremely possessive and easily incited when one impinges on his perceived territory. Bishop once skinned a boy whom he found out had gotten his daughter drunk.
Interactions with the player character
Bishop is the crucial element of several quests. Apart from the standard powerplay in the city, he is the recipent of Thomas Moore's briefcase from Vault City and can hire the Chosen One to eliminate two politicians in the NCR - Councilman Roger Westin and Vicepresident Frank Carlson. Of course, the Councilman can turn the tables on Bishop and hire the most infuential tribal of the wastelands to kill his original employer.
Bishop can be whacked by sleeping with his wife. After asking about her husband with a high enough speech skill (around 160) one can get Mrs. Bishop to suggest "repairing" the trap on Bishops safe, thus setting off the explosives when he goes to open it.
