In the winter of 2066, Anchorage, Alaska was occupied by Communist China. The Anchorage frontline became a massive battleground. On January 10, 2077, the Battle of Anchorage occurred and the United States began its counter-invasion of China.
Anchorage is based on the real-world location of Anchorage, Alaska, although the layout and appearance have little in common with the real city. For instance, the entire city shown in Fallout 3 seems to be built into a landlocked mountain range at high elevation, whereas the real city is largely at sea level on the coast of Cook Inlet, with small mountains easily visible but not contained within the town proper.
