When you are tough, you take less damage. Each level of this Perk will add +10% to your general damage resistance.— in-game description, Fallout

Toughness is a perk in Fallout, Fallout 2, Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, Fallout 4, Fallout Tactics, Fallout: The Roleplaying Game and Fallout: The Board Game.

Fallout, Fallout 2 and Fallout Tactics[]

With each level of this perk, you will add +10% to your normal Damage Resistance (not Laser, Fire, Plasma etc).

Fallout 3[]

With this perk, you gain +10% to overall Damage Resistance, up to the maximum of 85%. You will also gain a unique dialogue option when talking to Ted Strayer during the quest "You Gotta Shoot 'Em in the Head."

Fallout: New Vegas[]

With each rank of this perk, you gain a permanent +3 to your Damage Threshold.

This perk is ideal for players using light armor. It is also noted that the perks Travel Light, and Light Touch go well with this perk for those who are using light armor.

Fallout 4[]

If nothing else, you can take a beating! Assuming you'll be dealing with more than simple foul language hurled in your direction, gaining a permanent bolster to your Damage Resistance is just like having a thick skin of armor. A fantastic way to spend a Perk Point or five.Fallout 4 Vault Dweller's Survival Guide description

Fallout: The Roleplaying Game[]

Physical Damage Resistance to all hit locations increases by +1 per rank in this perk.

After taking rank 1, the level requirement increases by 4.

Fallout: The Board Game[]

Once obtained, it can be discarded to regain all HP and, until the end of turn, the player character will suffer no additional damage.

Notes[]

  • In Fallout: New Vegas, this perk can neutralize the Kamikaze trait.
  • Despite not being the Fallout: New Vegas version of the perk, Stella gains a 10% damage resistance exactly like the Fallout 3 version.
  • The Vault Boy image of this perk was used by the Endurance statistic in the Fallout Demo.
  • In each respective game, the chest emblem has a number signifying a vault. Fallout and Fallout 2 each have a 13 on them, representing Vault 13. In Fallout 3, the chest emblem has a 101, representing Vault 101. In Fallout New Vegas it is a 21, representing Vault 21. And in Fallout 4, the Vault Boy's chest emblem has a 111 on it, signifying Vault 111.

Behind the scenes[]

The image for this perk is a reference to Superman, especially in Fallout, Fallout 2 and Fallout Tactics since the Vault Boy also has the Superman hairstyle.
