The yao guai gauntlet is a weapon in the Fallout: New Vegas add-on Honest Hearts.
Background[]
The Sorrows tribe residing in Zion Canyon are renowned in the former state of Utah for their effectiveness in hunting deadly yao guai and making equally deadly weapons from their trophies. This gauntlet, made from the fist of a yao guai, has become their signature weapon in the same vein as the war clubs of the Dead Horses, the "storm drums" of the White Legs, and the .45 Auto pistols of the New Canaanites.[1]
Characteristics[]
An unarmed weapon consisting of the severed right forepaw of a yao guai, though contrary to the name, it is worn like a glove rather than strapped to the arm of the user like a deathclaw gauntlet. It deals a low-end amount of damage per strike at a moderate attack speed. It also deals a low-end amount of critical hit damage at a 2.5x critical chance multiplier, the third-highest of all unarmed weapons (below the 3x of its unique variant She's Embrace, the mantis gauntlet and that weapon's unique variant Embrace of the Mantis King! , and the 4x of Two-Step Goodbye ). It has a low-end AP cost and the third-highest durability of all unarmed weapons (below She's Embrace and the industrial hand ), but also the second-highest weight of all unarmed weapons along with several others as well as a very low-end caps value. It requires a 50 Unarmed skill level and 4 Strength attribute level to use effectively.
Similar to the chainsaw and thermic lance, it can ignore an enemy's DR and DT. Like the war club, it is considered an improved holdout weapon.

Locations[]
- As the primary weapon of the Sorrows tribe, it can be found on most of their members, however, being seen killing one will trigger Chaos in Zion and turn the Sorrows, Dead Horses, Joshua Graham, and Daniel hostile.
- After completing Departing Paradise and returning to the Mojave Wasteland, Vendortron at the Gun Runners kiosk, the Great Khan armorer at the Great Khan armory near Spring Mt. Ranch State Park, and Alexander at the 188 Trading Post will start selling them.

Joshua Graham: "In the Great Basin and Colorado Plateau, all tribes are known for a specific weapon. White Legs are known for their big submachine guns, 'storm drums.' They broke into an armory near Spanish Fork and have been using them for years. Of course, the Dead Horses have their wooden war clubs and even the Sorrows have their Yao Guai gauntlets. This type of .45 Automatic pistol was designed by one of my tribe almost four hundred years ago. Learning its use is a New Canaanite rite of passage."
