Xian-85 fighter (西安-85) is a Chinese multirole fighter that was used during the Sino-American War in the latter half of the 21st century.

Background[edit | edit source]

Pete of the Boomers mentions having shot down over 500 of these fighters during his VR sessions.[1]

Appearances[edit | edit source]

The Xian-85 fighter is mentioned only in Fallout: New Vegas.

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]

"Xian" may be a reference of the real-life XAC, Xi'an Aircraft Industrial Corporation,[2] a major Chinese military and civilian aircraft manufacturer. In our timeline, XAC specializes in the design and manufacture of bombers and transport planes, but not fighters, and is a major certified part supplier of American aircraft conglomerate Boeing, who outsources production of parts such as vertical tails to XAC's Yanliang factory.

Pete: "Once we restored power, we learned that some elaborate chairs we'd been sleeping in were actually virtual reality simulators. We believe they were used to train combat pilots. We use them extensively. I alone have shot down over 500 Chinese Xian-85 fighters! Before you ask, I'm afraid there's no way you can be allowed to use the simulators. They are for our use only. Sorry."
