The X-22 botanical garden is a location in Big MT in the Fallout: New Vegas add-on Old World Blues.
Background[]
Prior to the Great War, the X-22 botanical garden was focused on researching the qualities of enhanced plant growth and its military applications. It was in this facility that the Beauveria Mordicana fungus was created as a means of pest control, which was later transferred to Vault 22 in the Mojave Desert, ultimately resulting in its infestation of the human inhabitants, creating spore carriers, and the disintegration of the Vault,[1] as well as the subsequent importation of spore plants and spore carriers to Zion Canyon when a group of infected Vault dwellers escaped to there and were killed either by the fungus or by Randall Clark.[2][3]
Layout[]
Situated between the X-17 meteorological station to the southwest and the Y-0 research center to the northeast in the cardinal north side of Big MT, the location consists of a long metal staircase leading from the canyon floor to a ruined building in the upper area. Red crystals, which give off light during the night, are embedded in the surrounding canyon walls. The garden is guarded by spore plants and spore carriers, including the unique enemy Patient Zero.
Notable loot[]
- Sink Project: Biological Research Station - Found in the upper area of the garden, near a hot plate and a duffle bag by the staircase. Relevant to All My Friends Have Off Switches.
- Seed package - On the second level of the upper area. Relevant to Field Research.
- Black blood sausage - Carried by Patient Zero.

Notes[]
If the X-22 botanical garden is discovered and the biological research station is activated in the Sink, during the ending slides, it's revealed that when the Research Station tried to start a relationship with the X-22 facility, it was rejected due to X-22 having a "prior commitment" to the Vault it had "infected" before the Grear War.
Appearances[]
The X-22 botanical garden appears only in the Fallout: New Vegas add-on Old World Blues.

The Garden sent back a polite refusal, saying it had prior commitments with a Vault it had helped infect before the war."
