“The X-01 series of Power Armor was specially engineered and employed by remnants of the U.S. military after the Great War, and offers increased protection over the older, pre-war models.”— VDSG Catalogue No.9528
X-01 power armor is a set of power armor appearing in Fallout 4.
Characteristics
The X-01 power armor is a set created by the remnants of the U.S. military after the events of the Great War. It improves upon the pre-war suits by offering superior protective abilities. The power armor bears considerable resemblance to the advanced power armor seen in previous Fallout games, mainly due to the helmet design and general style. X-01 power armor provides the greatest defense among all other models of power armor featured in Fallout 4 thus far, such as the raider power armor, T-45, T-51, and T-60.

Locations
Level-independent
- A helmet can be found at Proctor Teagan's shop on the Prydwen behind a door locked with a Master level terminal, and can be stolen.
Level-dependent
- For a generalized list of locations where power armor can be found see the page power armor frame; depending on the player level there may be X-01 power armor.
- Full set found in building labeled 35 Court, found just west of Custom House Tower, if the player is level 28 or above. Inside 35 Court go up the elevator where you will go against a sentry bot and an assaultron. Press each button inside their cages, and the door will open to your new X-01 suit.
- Full set found behind a locked security gate in Fort Hagen hangar, if the player is level 28 or above.
- At high levels Rowdy will sell X-01 parts, however this is fairly rare.
Notes
- The Sole Survivor must be at least level 28 in order for the X-01 power armor to spawn.
- Unlike previous versions of power armor, turning on the headlamp will illuminate the eyes, casting light from them instead of from a light attached to the helmet. The color of the eyes will change depending on the color of light chosen.
- The unique Institute paint scheme (exclusive to the X-01) can only be unlocked by completing the game by siding with the Institute, in which the paint scheme is automatically added to your list of modifications. It increases Intelligence by one with all pieces painted and costs nothing to apply. Using the console command set PA_Global_Material_Institute to 1 will make the paint scheme available for use without doing any of the required quests.
- This suit's list of Material Mods also includes the 'Thermal Coating' material mod, which seems to be exclusive to the X-01 as well, as it does not exist for the other models. The 'Winterized Coating' is not available and seems to have been replaced with 'Thermal Coating'. Both provide the same upgrade to Energy Resistance, but the Thermal simply applies as the default armor color rather than white in color.
- This suit's modification list also includes one suit-exclusive upgrade, known as "X-01 EMP Shielding".
Bugs
- Custom House Tower in an unmarked building named 35 Court, at the top after an elevator ride. Two level-dependent robots, typically at least one assaultron, come out of rooms to attack the player character, there are two buttons in those rooms that must be pressed to open a third room with the armor. This set of armor may be glitched as it visually appears as a different set of power armor; however, upon entering the suit or looting the items, it will turn into X-01 power armor. As of version 1.1.30.0.0, the suit now is level-dependent. If you are above level 28, it spawns the X-01; under level 28, it spawns a T-51 and has a chance to spawn between. Entering the power armor usually fixes the problem.[verified] West of
- Sometimes, when you first build a jump jet for the X-01 torso, it will appear a good armor's width away to the right of the rack (when facing it) and it will also be rotated 90 degrees. Once you enter the armor, it snaps/floats to its correct position and orientation on the back; it continues to float, not actually appearing to attach and not moving with the armor animation, though it does follow you and is completely functional. Quitting and reloading the game fixes this oddity.[verified]
- There seems to be a bug where the eyes of the X-01 helmet (which are also the helmet's headlamp) will sometimes not light up when the headlamp is activated. This seems to happen when changing to a different paint scheme. Removing the helmet from inventory and then re-equipping seems to fix this issue. [verification overdue][platforms tag needed]
- T-45 power armor that's missing random parts. This is actually due to the "cell reset" bug, and affects power armor frames, not specifically the armor pieces themselves. This bug primarily affects modded games, and can be avoided by either using the console to spawn a generic frame and moving your armor pieces to the new frame, or by using a mod that allows the construction of bug-free frames via the workshop.[verified] If left without power armor stand and fast traveling around, can transform into a
- [verification overdue] With certain mods attached, Ballistic and/or energy weapons may not collide with (and thus not deal damage to) enemies and projectiles simply go 'through' them (as evidenced by collision animations on the floor or scenery behind the enemy). When exiting the armor, normal collisions resume. Re-entering armor resumed the non-collision behaviour. Only fixed by quitting and reloading. This behaviour was exhibited under the following conditions: Fully repaired set of X-01 Mk. VI in Hot Rod Pink paint scheme, Calibrated Left and Right legs, Jet Pack torso, Targeting helmet with Bright headlamp
