For an overview of power armor in the Fallout series of games, see power armor. |
X-01 power armor is a set of power armor appearing in Fallout 4.
Characteristics
Not much is known about this particular variation of powered infantry armor; however, the X-01 power armor bears considerable resemblance to the advanced power armor seen in previous Fallout games, mainly due to the iconic helmet and general style. It also seems to be completely devoid of any markings showing Enclave origin. One of the loading screens, however, does hint that the design may originate from the Enclave, and it is consistent with power armor of similar design in earlier games (the screen stating that the armor variant was created after the Great War in 2077). X-01 power armor provides the greatest defense among all other models of power armor featured in Fallout 4 thus far such as the T-45, T-51, and T-60.
Normal armor worn inside power armor does not count towards your total amount of damage, energy and radiation resistance. The bonuses you get from some pieces of armor also will not count.

Locations
- Within this section is a list of scripted locations. For a generalized list of locations where Power armor can be found see the page Power armor frame.
- A helmet can be found at Proctor Teagan's shop on The Prydwen behind a door locked with a Master level terminal, and can be stolen.
- If the player is a high enough level when starting the Brotherhood of Steel quest "Blind Betrayal", a full set of X-01 missing the helmet can be seen being worn by Paladin Danse at Listening Post Bravo after completing the quest, if you spare him and tell him to stay in the Commonwealth.
- Bought from:
- Various pieces can be purchased from Rowdy at Atom Cats Garage, depending on player level. Rowdy's shop refreshes at the same time as shops in your settlements.
Notes
- It is possible to customize suits of power armor using parts from several different suits, including the T-45, T-51, T-60, X-01, and raider power armor.
- Like all versions of power armor, the X-01 variant requires a fusion core to be fully-functional. When the power runs out, the Sole Survivor becomes encumbered and cannot use V.A.T.S.
- If the player character is lower than level 26 (lowest known level for it to spawn), other versions of power armor will spawn.
- Unlike previous versions of power armor, turning on the headlamp will illuminate the eyes, casting light from them instead of from a light attached to the helmet. The color of the eyes will change depending the color of light chosen.
- The unique Institute paint scheme (exclusive to the X-01) can only be unlocked by completing the game by siding with the Institute, in which the paint scheme is automatically added to your list of modifications. The console command set PA_Global_Material_Institute to 1 will unlock the Institute paint scheme for use at any time.
Bugs
- West of Custom House Tower in an unmarked building named 35 Court, at the top after an elevator ride. An assaultron and a Sentry bot come out of rooms to attack the player character, there are two buttons in those rooms that must be pressed to open a third room with the armor. This set of armor may be glitched as it visually appears as a different set of power armor; however, upon entering the suit or looting the items, it will turn into X-01 Power-Armor. As of version 1.1.30.0.0, the suit now is level dependant. If you are above level 26, it spawns the X-01; under level 26, it spawns a T-51 and has a chance to spawn between. [verified]
- Sometimes the armour may appear as a T-45 power armour despite being marked as X-01. Get in the armour and leave the room to fix the bug; the armour will then display the X-01 variant correctly.
- Sometimes, when you first build a jump jet for the X-01 torso, it will appear a good armor's-width away to the right of the rack (when facing it) and it will also be rotated 90deg. Once you enter the armor, it snap/floats to it's correct position and orientation on the back; it continues to float, not actually appearing to attach and not moving with the armor animation, though it does follow you and is completely functional. Quitting and reloading the game fixes this oddity.
- There seems to be a bug where the Eyes of the X-01 Helmet (Which are also the helmet's headlamp) will sometimes not light up when the headlamp is activated. This seems to happen when changing to a different paint scheme.
