Wolfhorn Ranch is a location in the Mojave Wasteland in Fallout: New Vegas.

Background[]

Sometime before 2281, the ranch hosted a bighorner cattle operation that was quite successful, but it was later abandoned by the owner and left vacant.[Non-game 1]

Layout[]

Situated east of Nipton, just south of where Nevada State Route 164 divides to Ranger Station Charlie in the north and to Camp Searchlight in the south, the main building exists as a one-room shack, containing a stove, armor locker, two lockers and a bed. Surrounding the building is evidence of recent farming. There is a windmill, constructed walkways, crops and various tools littered around the area. There is also an irradiated water source just outside the ranch. Near the flag pole is a grave, overlooking Nevada 164. A radio nearby will be tuned to Radio New Vegas.

Notable loot[]

  • Chopper - A unique variant of the cleaver, found lying on top of the stove inside the farmhouse.
  • Tumblers Today - Near the fridge, on the floor.

Notes[]

Appearances[]

Wolfhorn Ranch appears only in Fallout: New Vegas.

Behind the scenes[]

  • Wolfhorn Ranch was where Ulysses was originally going to be found, when he was still in the base game as a companion before being cut.[Non-game 2]
  • Chopper was added to Wolfhorn Ranch after Ulysses was cut, so that the location would not be so empty. Joshua Sawyer also denied that Chopper would have been used by Ulysses; it was merely added to the location to have something unique after Ulysses' removal.[Non-game 3]
  • In the Italian, Spanish, French and German versions of Fallout: New Vegas, Wolfhorn Ranch is called "Accampamento di Ulysses," "Campamento Ulises," "Camp d'Ulysses" and "Ulysses Lager." All four designations translate to "Ulysses' Camp."
  • The Fallout: New Vegas Official Game Guide specifically names Ulysses as the previous owner of the ranch, although he "is nowhere to be found."[Non-game 1]
  • According to Chris Avellone, the grave located on the hill near the ranch was added as a reference to Ulysses being cut from the base game. In-universe, however, the grave belongs to someone unknown. The grave was added by level designer Sydney Wolfram.[Non-game 4]

What was once a profitable Bighorner ranch has recently been abandoned, and its owner—a man named Ulysses—is nowhere to be found. Scour the place, especially the farmhouse itself (which has most of the items you want). Down at the bottom of the garden is a well and a tank with irradiated water (only sip if you're desperate), and an allotment with a few plants to pick."
