Wolves are one of the few species of animals that has remained relatively unaffected by the effects of radiation. The North American wolf species were on the verge of extinction before the Great War. In Fallout they are quite common indicating that 100 years time has allowed the species to repopulate.
By the time of Fallout 2 the resurgence of human civilization has made wolves less common in the Core Region. Encounters with wolves are, however, still quite frequent.
Characteristics
Biology
Wolves are quadrupedal canines, much like dogs, and travel in large packs. They are substantially larger and stronger than the common dog. The lack of human presence for almost 100 years has made wolves lose their instinctual fear of man, making them much more aggressive towards humans they encounter.
Gameplay attributes
Wolves tend to travel in packs, this can pose a significant challenge to low level players. Since they are stronger than wild dogs they can easily take down careless travelers, so it is best to be prepared before taking them on.
