The Wilson Atomatoys corporate HQ is a location in the Back Bay neighborhood of Boston in 2287.

Background[]

The derelict remains of a prominent pre-War toy manufacturers, overlooking the highway passing through Boston. Before the Great War, the facility was commandeered by the military as part of the SCYTHE Program, and traces of this takeover still remain.[Non-game 1][Non-game 2]

Layout[]

The entire building has a confined, labyrinthian layout.

Basement[]

The building entrance opens into a hallway in the basement. A door ahead that can only be opened using an Atomatoys ID provides the most direct access to the Expert-locked mainframe access terminal, a Master-locked door to the right leads to a stairwell and an open doorway to the left leads to the generator room. Beyond the generator room lies an open shaft rising through the two floors above; the nearby elevators are seen to be out of order. To the south is a room with two cages, followed by a storeroom for Giddyup Buttercups.

First and second floors[]

Climbing the stairwell near the basement entrance leads to the ruined reception area on the first floor. A security office just to the right contains an Advanced-locked terminal. The room opposite features a ramp leading up. The second floor contains several rooms, including a conference room, a development lab with a Master-level safe and a terminal, the president's office with a high-level super mutant and Advanced-locked safe and an exit to the exterior balcony.

Notable loot[]

  • Twelve Giddyup Buttercups and their various parts - In the basement storage room. These will disappear after telling Arlen Glass about them, if not first taken by the player character.

A third is on the floor in the corner to the right of the president's desk on the second floor. However, the key card isn't necessary to open the locked basement door, as other routes through the basement may be used to circumvent the door.
  • Three Wilson Atomatoys HQ keys - One is on top of the terminal in the security office on the first floor. Another is under a chair in the conference room on the second floor. A third is inside the president's desk on the second floor.

Notes[]

  • Traveling to this location by vertibird will result in it landing near a highly radioactive pond just south of the building.
  • Arlen Glass, the company's cofounder and lead toy designer, is now a ghoul living at the Slog. Giving him Marlene's holotape will result in dialogue and a reward; he will then leave the Slog.
  • George Wilson was the founder of Atomatoys, and his son, Marc Wilson, took over the company upon his resignation.[1]
  • Marc Wilson agreed to participate in the SCYTHE program, a classified program that aimed to produce munitions in secret for the military as a hedge against emergencies requiring rapid deployment to locations within the continental United States. It appears that Atomatoys had, shortly before the outbreak of the Great War, begun to specifically produce land mines for the military in their toy factory.[2]
  • If Nisha sends the Sole Survivor to this location during A Permanent Solution, some notable loot will respawn if it had previously been picked it up.

Appearances[]

The Wilson Atomatoys corporate HQ appears only in Fallout 4.

Behind the scenes[]

  • Several terminal entries in the building reference the television show My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. The three development logs on the development terminal make reference to specific My Little Pony episodes.
    • The first log using the line "I just don't know what went wrong," a notable quote from the character of Derpy Hooves, who also breaks a floor in the same scene.[3]
    • The second log refers to the climax of "Too Many Pinkie Pies," where in order to deduce who among a group of clones is the original, the group are forced to watch paint dry to test their devotion.[4]
    • The third log refers to the events of "Lesson Zero," where a character struggling to meet an important deadline frequently repeats the word "tardy," along with the line "Clock is ticking, Twilight, Clock. is. ticking!".[5]
  • The development office terminals contain emails referring to ideas to increase product sales. References to unique body and hair color variants, Unicorn[6] and Pegasus[7] lines of horses, and a Princess[8] line of horses refer to those common elements of the My Little Pony franchise. Among the references is the idea of giving each Buttercup an "identifying mark," referring to My Little Pony's iconic "Cutie Marks."[9]

Bugs[]

PCPC Xbox OneXbox One In the development office, two desks appear to be occupying the same space. They have separate inventories, and can both be interacted with. This requires delicate mouse movement to spot.[verified]

Before the war, this was the headquarters of the Wilson Atomatoys Corporation, maker of the well-known Giddyup Buttercup horse. Only the senior officials at the company, including the lead designer Arlen Glass, were based here. The building lay abandoned for years until a gang of Super Mutants stormed it, using it as a base for raiding the surrounding area."

Back Bay was once known for its numerous brownstones of architectural significance. It is now dominated by the Trinity Tower skyscraper, an immense building constructed close to the old church and public library. Now the streets and alleyways are home to roving bands of Raiders, ferals, and packs of wild dogs. The tower still stands, which is more than can be said for another skyscraper, which has half toppled into the Dartmouth Professional Building. Keep going south to reach a Raider tenement block stronghold of Layton Towers. Super Mutants have a powerful grip on this part of the city, too, decorating the Wilson Atomatoys Corporate HQ and Trinity Tower with meat bags and bloody spikes."
