Willow is a ghoul who serves as the sentry of Underworld in the year 2277.

Background[]

Underworld's forward observer, Willow is young and satirical, calling visitors to the Mall "tourists" and inquiring if they have a death wish as they have entered a combat zone.[1][Non-game 1] If asked where she came from, she remarks that the Lone Wanderer is oblivious for a sightseer;[2] if the Lone Wanderer protests being labeled as one, she sarcastically affirms that they are "taking in the sights" and "visiting the monuments," continuing with her tourist comparison.[3]

She claims that she is not harassed by super mutants, who she calls "knuckle draggers," chalking it up to them seeing ghouls as family.[4] Instead, she has issues with humans, particularly with the Brotherhood of Steel and Talon Company; she refers to the former as humans with "testosterone and guns" and the latter simply as "psycho," making no attempt to conceal her disdain for them.[5]

She provides basic information about Underworld, giving directions and pointing out that not many of its inhabitants are hospitable, but if one has caps and is not a "ghoul hater," then the residents are willing to engage in trade.[6]

Daily schedule[]

She can usually be found on the Mall, wandering around just outside the entrance to the Museum of History.

Notes[]

  • She persistently addresses the Lone Wanderer as a "tourist."
  • She will not help the Lone Wanderer kill any super mutants, even if they are being attacked. She will defend herself if attacked. She will ceasefire after the death of the super mutant that hit her, though, and other super mutants will not open fire on her.
  • Though Willow says that super mutants do not attack ghouls, when ghoul wastelanders are spoken to in the random encounter "Ghoul-Friends," the ghouls will say "We were on our way to Underworld, but we couldn't get past the super mutants."

  1. Fallout 3 Official Game Guide Game of the Year Edition p. 103:
    "Willow:
A nonchalant but friendly young Ghoul, Willow is sarcastic, but happy to speak with you. She serves as a forward observer for the Ghouls living in the depths of the Museum of History. She isn't bothered by the Super Mutants (because they don't tend to attack Ghouls), but she's got some particular vehemence for the Brotherhood and Talon Company humans."
