Wes Johnson is an actor and voice artist who voiced multiple characters in Fallout 3, its add-ons Broken Steel and Point Lookout; Fallout 4 and its add-on Nuka-World; as well as Fallout 76 and its updates Wild Appalachia, Nuclear Winter, Wastelanders, Nuka-World on Tour, Skyline Valley and Burning Springs. Most prominent among his roles are the Protectron robots throughout all three games, as well as the companion Fawkes in Fallout 3, as well as Moe Cronin and the Silver Shroud in Fallout 4, the latter of which he reprised in Fallout 76.

Career[]

Work on the Fallout series[]

Fallout 3[]

In Fallout 3 (2008), Johnson voiced Mister Burke, all super mutants (including Fawkes and Uncle Leo), the sentry bots, the Protectrons, Scribe Bigsley in Broken Steel, and swampfolk in Point Lookout (both 2009).

Fallout 4[]

Johnson returned to the series for Fallout 4 (2015), voicing Moe Cronin, the Silver Shroud, and reprised his role as the Protectrons, as well as several minor super mutants. However, he did not reprise his role as sentry bots.[1]

Fallout 76[]

Johnson also reprised his role as the Protectrons in Fallout 76 (2018), as well as the various vendor bots in the game. He also voiced the Fasnacht Protectrons, introduced in Wild Appalachia (2019), as well as various Collectrons. He also voiced the Silver Shroud again, this time as part of JES-2R's voice lines, introduced in Nuclear Winter.

For the Wastelanders update to Fallout 76 (2020), Johnson reprised his role as the Protectron officer Boomer, as well as voicing Professor-bot and Sunny.

Johnson returned to Fallout 76 in 2022 with the Nuka-World on Tour update, in which he voiced Bruno the Strongbot and the human chems vendor Del Walsh.[2] In 2024, he voiced former park ranger Kevin Harris in the Skyline Valley update.[3] He provided unique voice lines for the National Guard Protectrons and Cobby, in the Burning Springs update in 2025. Johnson also reprised the role of Kevin Harris for a holotape, but he was not credited for the reprisal and the holotape itself was later cut.(Note)

Other work[]

Johnson is a frequent collaborator with Bethesda Softworks, having voiced characters in The Elder Scrolls franchise since 2002's The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, as well as countless voices in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (2006) and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (2011). Outside of Bethesda Softworks, he has also voiced characters in World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth and appeared in films such as A Dirty Shame. He is the host of Wes Johnson's Voiceapalooza, an annual charity event held in conjunction with Fallout For Hope to benefit Alzheimer's research. He has been the PA announcer for the Washington Capitals since 2000.

Behind the scenes[]

  • The character Mad Johnny Wes in Fallout 3 appears to be a reference to Wes Johnson. However, Johnson himself does not voice the character, who instead uses generic combat dialogue voiced by Johnny Contino.
  • In January 2025, Johnson was hospitalized after experiencing a medical emergency, leading to an outpouring of support from the Bethesda Softworks and Washington Capitals communities.[4] He was discharged from the hospital on January 31,[5] while contributions can still be made for his benefit on GoFundMe.
  • ^ (Note) During the Public Test Server for the Fallout 76 update Burning Springs, the National Park ad holotape featured new voice lines from Johnson as Kevin Harris, alongside Luke Dimyan as Moe the Mole. However, by the time of the update's live release, the holotape's audio and subtitles were removed. The item itself was marked to be cut in a later version of the Public Test Server, for a future update in 2026. Kevin Harris appears as an NPC introduced in the Skyline Valley update, and Johnson reprised the role for the Burning Springs holotape. However, he was only credited for the role of Kevin Harris in Skyline Valley, not Burning Springs, and the holotape's audio was only heard in the Public Test Server before being cut.
