Background[]
After the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, in April 1865, the War Department offered a $100,000 reward for any information that would lead to the capture of his murderer, John Wilkes Booth, or his accomplices.[1] Edwin Stanton is mentioned as the Secretary of War on the John Wilkes Booth wanted poster.
As the highest ranking surviving member of the Army at Mariposa Military Base after the Great War, Roger Maxson took command, attempting to contact a proper representative of the War Department.[2]
