The Vim! Pop factory is a location on the Island in 2287.

Background[]

Before the Great War, the factory was the main production and distribution center for Vim! Pop Incorporated. In 2287, it is overrun with super mutants and mutant hounds.

Layout[]

Exterior[]

The complex occupies a small island, with access via a short bridge on the west side. The front entrance to the corporate headquarters is near the bridge, while proceeding south and east past a traffic gate and down a ramp leads to a parking area with an entrance to the factory. A two-level parking garage is on the north side of the ramp, with a second entrance to the corporate headquarters at the back of the upper level of the garage.

Near the dock on the north side of the island, an unlocked safe and a couple other loot containers are underwater by the skeleton of a sea creature. A metal stairway on the east end of the dock connects to a network of platforms, catwalks, and stairways that eventually lead up to the roof of the factory. Two more entrances to the factory, another entrance to the corporate headquarters, and an entrance to the CEO's office are all found in this section, as is Iris Mason's R&D terminal allowing access to tasty crafting recipes.

Corporate headquarters[]

The Vim! corporate headquarters is a two-story building. Entering through the west front entrance, the first floor contains a reception area, a large central lobby with a fountain and a suspended Stingray Deluxe on display, two restrooms to the south, a theater and stairwell to the north, and the Vim! gift shop to the east. Exits to the exterior parking area and the factory floor are in the stairwell downstairs. The gift shop has a terminal with tour information, as well as double doors exiting to the factory that lead to a small upper section of the factory only accessible from this side.

The second floor includes two rooms of employee cubicles with an exit to the exterior roof area, a break room, a conference room, and the CEO's office behind an Advanced-locked door. One of the cubicles contains an Expert-locked safe which can be unlocked using Madison Young's Novice-locked terminal on the desk. Norman Fuller's Novice-locked marketing terminal is in the conference room, and Doyle Reed's Advanced-locked CEO's terminal is in the CEO's office. The double doors in the CEO's office exit to the exterior roof area.

Factory[]

The factory itself consists of three main sections: the mixing area, the bottling area, and the shipping area.

The mixing area to the south is a large three-story room with mixing vats surrounded by catwalks and small utility rooms. Several super mutants and a boss are in this area, while a steamer trunk is on the top level to the east. The room with the trunk also has an armor workbench, as well as the pump regulator for Ablutions on the desk opposite the trunk. A stairwell leads up to an exit to the exterior roof area. The room on the west side of the top level has a Novice-locked mixing terminal that can open the nearby security door and provide details on Erickson's time at the factory. On the bottom level of the mixing area at the south end is a Novice-locked terminal opening the nearby security door to an elevator descending to DiMA's secret medical facility in the basement.

The bottling area in the center is a large warehouse full of tanks containing Vim! soda. On the top level is the ambassador room, which has the red Vim! power armor as well as the ambassador terminal where one can learn both Vim! paint jobs. A stairway to the north of the ambassador room leads up to another exit to the exterior roof area, while the exit to the exterior parking area is on the bottom level to the west.

The shipping area to the north is a large open warehouse full of debris and ruined trucks, with the exit to the corporate headquarters lower stairwell on the bottom level to the northwest, and the exit to the corporate headquarters gift shop (inaccessible from this side) on the top level to the northwest. Above the shipping area are more catwalks and the taste testing area, which is a cafeteria-like room where tour visitors were given free samples of Vim!, as recorded in the taste testing terminal. This area also contains a room with Willis Rudd's brewing terminal controlling the adjacent Protectron pod, and a room with several computer consoles and a weapons workbench.

All three areas connect to a flooded sublevel which is home to several mole rats. The sublevel also contains the Advanced-locked dock terminal to open the nearby large red doors to the heavy storage room where Erickson imprisoned Grun together with a steamer trunk. In fact, Grun's heavy footsteps can be heard throughout the factory.

Basement[]

Taking the elevator down from the mixing area of the factory leads to DiMA's secret medical facility in the basement. An unmarked grave appearing as a patch of dirt in the first room holds the evidence needed for The Way Life Should Be. Entering the room with the computers will activate the facility's A.I., a program named KYE 1.1. Passing a medium Speech check will convince KYE to open the doors to the medical facility. Alternatively, KYE may be asked a series of questions about KYE and the facility to enable an easy Speech check to convince the program it is no longer needed to guard the room. Otherwise, KYE can be questioned about approved users to add a miscellaneous quest objective to bring Nick Valentine, who will be given access freely because the system recognizes "the early prototype" as an authorized user. The medical facility room contains a steamer trunk and other items.

Notes[]

  • A Nuka-Cola poster featuring Nuka-Girl is in the factory next to the exit to the corporate headquarters lower stairwell. Four switchblades are impaling the advertisement or on the floor under the poster. The poster was hung by a team of Nuka-Cola Corporation employees tasked with driving the Vim! Pop Corporation out of business.[1]
  • On the second floor of the corporate headquarters, there is an employee cubicle with an Advanced-locked wall safe. It is very easy to fall through the hole in the floor in this cubicle and become stuck between the first-floor shelving and ceiling.
  • On the north side of the factory roof, on a ledge overlooking a series of steel girder spikes below, a skeleton is stuffed inside a steel barrel next to a set of wooden blocks that spell "do it."
  • On the corporate headquarters roof, on the west side of the central glass dome, are some mischievous garden gnomes. The headquarters roof may be reached by jumping down onto the roof of the blue metal structure on top of the factory, heading west, and making a careful jump from atop a cinder block.
  • The unmarked grave in the medical facility can't be investigated unless the first of DiMA's memories from Best Left Forgotten has been recovered.
  • It may be possible to unlock the elevator leading to the basement before obtaining the quest Best Left Forgotten. Entering the elevator in this case will result in the player character falling through the floor into an endless abyss.
