The Vault 13 metro was set to appear in the canceled Fallout movie.[1]
Background[]
It is a miniature railway, only traveling short, presumably walkable distances in the vault.[2] However, it is possible, due to the ambiguous language of the film treatment, to understand it as a necessary way for them to get around because the metro car that was meant to be seen in the film had traveled from one side of a concrete wall to the other; a distance of around ten feet.[3] Thus it is possible that they had to use the metro in order to get to the other side of the wall.
The metro would certainly be used by vault dwellers on their daily commute through the scale-down representation of Los Angeles that formed the vault's theme. The commuters would normally be played a 'spliced film loop', but this was subject to occasional errors and shorts.[4]
One of the metro cars was used by Hero in the film to dispose of the mutant version of Scholar, one of the original members of the recon team the film is based around.[5] This implies that they run automatically, as the people of the vault were engaged in a battle, down to the last man, to both overthrow the Overseer and to defeat the Master.[6]

Behind the scenes[]
There is some discrepancy in the description of the metro. At first, it is described as a metro, and later is described as having cars.[7][8] However, it is also described as a tram in two other instances.[9][10]
