TranscriptsEdit

So, I'm taking a mental break from tracking down characters for photos and refid's. Anyway, I see on your profile you're trying to get people to finish transcripts? What does that mean? If you just want those pages made, I can do that pretty quick, especially since I can just jump into the game files and copy/paste the subtitles. Or do you mean you want someone to translate them? Cause I can't do that. Anyway, cheers! --Xernoc (talk) 08:06, December 18, 2015 (UTC)

Hey. I saw what you've done with the characters page. That's a huuuuuge page and I would be afraid to try to build something like this from scratch. Good job! About the transcripts, I only need the copy/paste of the game files. I don't know how to access myself to the files and even if I could I guess my files would be in French so that wouldn't help. --YoDsanklai (talk) 08:36, December 18, 2015 (UTC)

Haha, yeah that character page kinda happened on accident. I was just gonna add a few things, and then I saw what a sorry state it was in and decided to add a bit more. Then a bit more. And now I feel obligated to finish what i started, lol. I got laid off recently, so I certainly have the time. Anyway, I got a few of those transcripts done, at least the ones that were obvious to me. I'm not sure which parts of the code are for Mahkra, but I'll keep an eye out and see if I can narrow it down. I'm haven't read a lot of the terminals in game, so sorry if I missed a few. --Xernoc (talk) 08:43, December 18, 2015 (UTC)

That's pretty much how I've got hooked to this wiki : start to correct one or two typos and the next minute you're building charts to and tables to make the quest section clearer! If I remember correctly the Makhra terminals were used by 2 brothers who hated each other and each planned to kill the other by using the security protocols of their domestic robots. I tend to skip most of the terminals too, I like the stories but accessing the terminals is way too slow in game. I wish there wasn't this stupid delay on opening terminal, opening entries, going through the entries and then again on closing the terminal.--YoDsanklai (talk) 09:12, December 18, 2015 (UTC)

ActivityEdit

Just conveyed my thanks to User:Xernoc, and I've also noticed you as an active member. Good to see some users who are willing to spend a good amount of time here, especially in these very busy times with the new game and all. So hereby my appreciation. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 09:39, December 18, 2015 (UTC)

Where did you find the alternative name Defence Turrets for the Barney Rook (quest)? Jspoel Speech Jspoel 09:56, December 18, 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for the welcome. I made up the "Defence Turrets" name. I think it's a miscellaneous quest and unless something comes out of the game files, we won't have an official name for it. Should have I kept the draft name? The pages affected by that name change are Defence Turrets, Barney Rook, Salem, Reba II. --YoDsanklai (talk) 10:08, December 18, 2015 (UTC)
Console help will come up with the name "Gun Run". But if it only appears under misc in the pip-boy then this name can't be seen ingame. --Alfwyn (talk) 10:19, December 18, 2015 (UTC)
It seems we should use this name for the quest then. Do I have a greenlight to edit it? --YoDsanklai (talk) 10:21, December 18, 2015 (UTC)
We can't use up a self-made up name, then everybody could do that. Best to stick to the game guide name Barney Rook (quest). Jspoel Speech Jspoel 10:30, December 18, 2015 (UTC)

( I got the Fo4 edit working. You can use Gun Run for now. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 10:40, December 18, 2015 (UTC)

I made the changes on the concerned pages. --YoDsanklai (talk) 10:48, December 18, 2015 (UTC)

ReplyEdit

Thanks for the report. But the thing is, I lack the authority to block users outside of chat. You'll have to report it on one of the admin's talkpage since they have the powers to do so. Unless they're not online or cannot be contacted in either way, you can report the user's vandalism on VSTF wiki, otherwise, I'll leave one of the admins a note regarding any of it. Hope this one helps.  :) ------Cassie I can see you. 13:09, December 18, 2015 (UTC)

Article EditsEdit

Why remove Hadrian completely from the Jamaica Plain article? He's involved with this place as much as any of the other dead bodies are. Also, why have him as a note in the Jamaica Plain quest article? He is the reason that quest starts, along with Jamaica Plain flyers one may come across, and should not just be a note. I'm asking these things so I don't needlessly edit both of them only for you to change them back again. DWEco (talk) 14:23, December 21, 2015 (UTC)

It's a mistake. I went quite fast over the article. I'm going to put him back. Thanks for noticing. --YoDsanklai (talk) 11:22, December 22, 2015 (UTC)
Actually I read the article in full and I think we should remove the content about the Jamaica hall basement from the Jamaica Plains page and move it to the Find the Treasures of Jamaica Plain page. That means : make a clearer and shorter page about Jamaica Plains the settlement, put a bit of information about how to go from Jamaica Plains to the miscellaneous quest and have the content centered on the quest move on the quest page. --YoDsanklai (talk) 12:15, December 22, 2015 (UTC)
I'm ok with that. Note that if you use your own talkpage other people won't get a notification of it. I caught this message by chance. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 12:21, December 22, 2015 (UTC)

I don't understand your edits. If you remove Hancock as the end of the quest Pickman's Gift, why not exclude him entirely? —Preceding unsigned comment added by DWEco (talkcontribs). Please sign your posts with ~~~~!

Icons neededEdit

It might be another couple hours before I can get on today. I'm not sure if I have access to icons because frankly I'm not sure what the icons are. The few that are up look like the icon in steam when you get the achievement. I can probably get those by simply earning the achievement then screencapping it in steam. The images I'll have to look into. I've only looked at the coding and sound files in the game, I haven't looked at textures yet, so we'll have to see how good I am at finding this stuff. Thanks for putting together the project page, though. That will make coordination a lot easier. --Xernoc (talk) 01:19, December 28, 2015 (UTC)

Okay, I'm online. I think I've got a good method for getting images. Not sure about the icons yet, but I'll figure that out. Probably gonna need Js's input on that one. Gonna start going down the list. --Xernoc (talk) 02:31, December 28, 2015 (UTC)
Not a problem. It'll probably get sorted out tomorrow and then it can move forward, whether it's me or Js (or whoever) doing it. I know it's somewhat of a priority for him as well. --Xernoc (talk) 06:47, December 28, 2015 (UTC)

BloodleafEdit

What is the exact name of Bloodleaf in the french version of the game? Is it 'Sanguine' or is it something else similar? And if you happen to know the name in other translations of the game, that would be cool too. I'm trying to decide what to do with the Sanguine page. --Xernoc (talk) 06:41, January 2, 2016 (UTC)

Wild RazorgrainEdit

Is there some perk or something that let's one use wild variants instead of the normal ones? Because I can't seem to use wild razorgrain at the cooking station. --Alfwyn (talk) 21:29, January 4, 2016 (UTC)

Quests projectEdit

I don't know about you, but I'm loving that project page. I've got just about every quests' stages done. Anyway, I was curious where some of those quest names came from, particularly those that don't have pages yet. Can you take a look at the independent side quests and tell me what I'm looking for? --Xernoc (talk) 01:34, January 5, 2016 (UTC)

Happy new year!Edit

I would like to use the Christmas/New Year-wishes-tradition, though I'm a week late, to thank those around me who kept this wiki and daily life more fun for me during the past year. Everything just seems so normal and evident that we are here almost every day, yet it's very worthwhile to consider for a moment how wonderful it is to have people like you around me, making editing and being on chat a lot more enjoyable. I would also like to use this opportunity to wish a happy and healthy new year for you and everyone around you who is dear to you. I hope you'll have a great and healthy new year in which all your wishes may come true! - Greets Peace'n Hugs (talk) (blog) 00:06, January 6, 2016 (UTC)

QuestsEdit

Ok, I've done some investigation and I see what you mean. The unmarked (location) quests are in the miscellaneous section I now notice. I didn't know that until now. Just haven't had time to play the game as you can see. You can change the template if you want, you're a trusted member by now. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 16:43, January 6, 2016 (UTC)

The radiant option can be removed I think. It doesn't appear as such in the game. Would be a faction side quest then. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 16:48, January 6, 2016 (UTC)
Blogs seem to hate the monobook skin, couldn't comment there, so I put it here. Radiant is a term coined by Bethesda (see wikipedia:Radiant AI). On uesp the term radiant was used to mean roughly "random and/or repeatable". But perhaps there is indeed a better term, the wikipedia page offers "dynamically generated". --Alfwyn (talk) 19:24, January 6, 2016 (UTC)
Dangit Alfwyn we were editing at the same time, haha. I'll post my comment anyway:
Not to say this shouldn't be changed, but the term "Radiant" is the name of the software that Bethesda uses to create the quests. They've been using the software for a decade, since Oblivion. "Radiant" quests are "dynamically created" quests, aka random locations and objectives. There's a short [Wikipedia article] on it and a number of quests have the word 'radiant' in their editor IDs. Not saying yes or no to whether we should keep using the word here on the Fallout wiki, just pointing out that it didn't come from nowhere and really the word wouldn't need a translation because it's the name of the software. --Xernoc (talk) 19:31, January 6, 2016 (UTC)
Alright I did block the comments by mistake. I'll transfer your notes there. --YoDsanklai (talk, blogs) 19:33, January 6, 2016 (UTC)
Don't change all the categories for the Fallout 4 quest pages yet. At the moment you're ruining the Fallout 4 quest achievements... I suppose it's not the end of the world but leave it for a few days more. I'd like to get at least my 1000 edits there. They still work for me... Jspoel Speech Jspoel 04:05, January 7, 2016 (UTC)
Just my two cents, but I am all for keeping them as radiant quest. Bethesda calls them that as does the big ol game guide. If people come here using that as well, maybe we should keep everything called the same so it is streamlined. Just a thought.--Kingclyde (talk) 06:26, January 7, 2016 (UTC)

Quest categoryEdit

No, there's no way I can include another category into that same achievement track. Let it stand for a few days more, then I'll give a sign you can continue with the change again. I'm probably the only one interested in the achievement by now... If you plan to move everyting to other categories then the track will have lost its value, but a good structure is becoming more important now. Which FNV track is broken? Jspoel Speech Jspoel 15:46, January 7, 2016 (UTC)

You can get achievements for edits in Category:Fallout: New Vegas locations. It once was much larger but it was also split, so it's not that attractive to edit anymore. It's not broken, just a small category now. So you're close to a 1000 edits in the Fo4 quest track too? Fine by me, I'm 30 away. Today I'll reach a 1000 and want to be done with it so I can do some "normal editing" again. I think I'll be able to give you a sign in a few hours that you can change the cats. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 19:30, January 7, 2016 (UTC)
Take your time, there's no rush. Can you ask Xernoc if he wants to reach some kind of Fallout 4 quest achievement threshold before they can no longer be made? He's active on those pages too. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 19:36, January 7, 2016 (UTC)
I've got about 400 quest edits to go before I hit 1k. On the one hand, I don't know if there's 400 edits left for me to do on quest pages, but yeah why not. I'll take a stab at it. We're the only 3 who have over 250 edits, let alone 500. Might as well go all the way. I'll get cracking so it can be changed soon. --Xernoc (talk) 20:03, January 7, 2016 (UTC)

Oh hey, FYI, I think at this point Jspoel has added all of the unique quest icons to their respective quests. Anything that doesn't have an image at this point should use File:Icon_Fo4_side_quest.png since that's what the game defaults to if there isn't a unique icon. --Xernoc (talk) 21:36, January 7, 2016 (UTC)

That is... assuming we're using the icons. Previous games didn't have icons, I don't think, so this is a setup I guess we're trying. --Xernoc (talk) 21:38, January 7, 2016 (UTC)

Participation sectionEdit

Just realized I never actually responded to your message. Looks good to me. I think I'm gonna leave the unmarked quests image-less for the moment and ask Js tomorrow about them. In the meantime I think I'm gonna shift into proofreading mode and try to put the detailed walkthroughs in the proper tense. --Xernoc (talk) 07:20, January 8, 2016 (UTC)

Quest participationEdit

I fixed it.--Kingclyde (talk) 11:54, January 8, 2016 (UTC)

Overdue bugsEdit

One one hand I agree with you, on the other I don't. Overdue bugs should be removed because the guidelines specify so, because they can often not be verified because they are too aspecific, badly written or unclear and because they clutter up many pages. But I agree that it may be a good idea to not remove them because they do document a possible bug that has simply not been verified yet. So you're right that it's not as simple as just removing any overdue bugs, so I will focus on trying to verify them and on cleaning up the sections by rewriting things, but we definitely do need to put more time/energy into verifying bugs. [And into the loot sections, locations, perks, items, armor, weapons and everything :')]
- FDekker talk 10:28, January 9, 2016 (UTC)

AchievementEdit

Ok. I have only a handful left to go, but Xernoc will need more time. We'll wait for that a while. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 17:01, January 10, 2016 (UTC)

NotesEdit

Hey! Could you guys help me with this part: "The way that nets most experience during the main quest seems to be (SPOILERS)" it's in the notes of The main Article Fallout 4 quests.

I've tryed to understand it but it didn'n work for me. I went through it step by step with graphics and it's not precise enough and it has also some errors. It would be good to make it step by step or by putting it in some graphics or diagram. Thank you! He2isenberg (talk) 20:56, January 11, 2016 (UTC)He2isenberg

PatrollerEdit

I heard you wanted to be a patroller. Looks like you qualify, and have the skills. It is done. Let me know if you need a heads up on the how and why. Agent c (talk) 15:19, January 13, 2016 (UTC)

No problem.
With Patrolled, the answer is you should always click the button when seeing that. It works in conjunction with this page... Unless there's some freak occurance where every page edited has been patrolled, you should notice a ! on the left of some pages. Any page without the ! hasn't been patrolled (Only patrollers and up can see that mark).
If you don't see the mark, someone has already patrolled it, and you can pretty much ignore that edit. If you see it, you should check it and mark it as patrolled. Do it before any edit you make, otherwise you have to go into the edit history of a page to patrol it, and that can be a hassle.
Any page edited by a special rights user (thats you) doesn't need to be patrolled, that gets marked automagically.
In general, you should avoid using rollback. If its a good faith edit, you should hit undo, and leave the reason why you've undone it, just like you probably have before.
If there has been a series of bad edits, vandalism, etc, you can use rollback to revert the page back to when the last editor changed it... so if VandalX made 6 vandalising entries to a page in a row, rollback undoes all 6, not just the most recent one. Agent c (talk) 15:32, January 13, 2016 (UTC)

Recent name swap on GreenskinsEdit

Might be an idea to revert that change for now. If the intention is orphan the redirect page so it can be deleted, it's unlikely to happen, since all the significant edit history is on the Greenskins (quest) page, not the Greenskins page, and that history usually needs to be retained for attribution purposes.

I'd suggest either...

  1. Revert the change, ask an admin to delete the Greenskins page, and then rename the Greenskins (quest) page to Greenskins, or...
  2. Ask an admin to merge the edit histories for both pages, which may well end up with virtually the same result. It's been a while since I last did wiki admin, so I'm not 100% on that.

Aya42 (talk) 13:54, January 16, 2016 (UTC)

You're right. I totally forgot about this issue. I'll ask Js to look into it. Thanks for this, and thanks for the Editor IDs on the quests page. --YoDsanklai (talk, blogs) 14:26, January 16, 2016 (UTC)
Hope you don't mind my moving your comment here - just makes the conversation easier to follow when it's all on one page.
It is much clearer actually. I find the usual system confusing.
Yeah, I used to be a bureaucrat on Wikibooks, until they decided that guides to computer games weren't sufficiently 'educational' to belong there, about 10 years ago, but I still have a vague recollection of all the administrative jazz, and, of course, the endless politics. :/
I'm trying to avoid raising any politic question here too.
Thanks for raising this with Js, although, based on the the timestamps, it looks like he actually moved the page before you even asked. :)
Regarding the editor IDs, I thought it would be useful in classifying the quests, given that they follow a fairly consistent naming convention, although some of them are rather long, and I wasn't sure if the tables would end up looking too good for users with narrow screens.
I already reclassified Institutionalized, but another one which might be in the wrong place is When Freedom Calls, which, when I checked, counts towards "Minutemen Quests Completed", and has a "Min" prefix in the editor ID. It's not clear if the organization of that page is meant to be a strict subdivision of quests by 'faction', or closer to the order in which a typical player would encounter the quests.
I moved When Freedom Calls to Minutemen main quests, where it belongs. The point of the page is really to categorize the quests by faction / type.
Makes sense. The editor ID prefix can sometimes be misleading, though. I probably ought to recheck, but I'm fairly certain that the Sanctuary quest, which has an editor ID of Min01 actually counts towards "Side Quests Completed" and not "Minutemen Quests Completed", as you might expect.
I just added some (slightly speculative) translations of the prefixes on my user page. The "Freeform(location)" prefix was used frequently in the Skyrim QUST records, so it's reasonable to assume that was abbreviated to "FF". I suspect all of the "MinRecruit" quests are actually radiant, certainly The First Step, based on its notes.
You can, for example, go straight to Diamond City after exiting Vault 111 and start Jewel of the Commonwealth that way, or even go straight to Vault 114 and start Unlikely Valentine, completely bypassing Jewel of the Commonwealth, but most players will likely have started Jewel of the Commonwealth after rescuing the Minutemen during When Freedom Calls.
Jewel of the Commonwealth can be skipped but it stays part of the main story arc. If anything, this could be put as a note on the quest page.
Absolutely agree about its place, and there's already a note about that.
One last thing. Regarding linking to radiant quests, such as Raider Troubles, I wasn't sure if it was better to omit the location in the link text, or include it, i.e. whether to just use [[Raider Troubles]] in all cases, or to use, for example, [[Raider Troubles|Raider Troubles at Abernathy Farm]] when appropriate. Maybe something you should decide for your quests project, so it can consistent across all pages.
Aya42 (talk) 15:56, January 16, 2016 (UTC)
It is probably better not to use the location name since there are too many possible variations: for each quest and each settlement there's 5-6 possible target locations and 4-5 radiant quests, that would make ~20-30 entries in the quest section. --YoDsanklai (talk, blogs) 16:29, January 16, 2016 (UTC)
Yeah. Sounds much simpler to me. I'll continue doing it that way then.
BTW: there's no need to put a note on my talk page. I have it configured so that every page I edit gets auto-added to my watchlist. Aya42 (talk) 18:56, January 16, 2016 (UTC)

Armor and clothing categoriesEdit

There are (too) many potential new categories for armor and clothing. Probably best to split them up into several categories and leave the main category blank (only subcats) like we did with the mentioned-only category. Can you make a suggestion for all possible categories? Jspoel Speech Jspoel 16:13, January 16, 2016 (UTC)

Image categoriesEdit

I'd say just leave the images if you don't know the categories. We have an overview of all uncategorized images and regularly put them in categories, so if you just ignore those you don't know we'll pick them up later and put them where they belong, no worries. It's easier this way than having the uncategorized images spread over multiple categories. - Greets Peace'n Hugs (talk) (blog) 13:21, January 19, 2016 (UTC)

On the admin dashboard, we have maintenance reports with all sorts of work that still has to be done. One of those reports things is uncategorized stuff. - Greets Peace'n Hugs (talk) (blog) 13:27, January 19, 2016 (UTC)
You're forgetting the licensing to the images. You need to add:

==Licensing==
{{Copyright FO4}}

Otherwise we risk the fury of Bethesda for not recognizing their work... Jspoel Speech Jspoel 12:24, January 22, 2016 (UTC) (

A bot would add it to every image, and a lot of them in there already have the tag and we don't want a double tag. Maybe a bot could exclude those, but you'd have to ask User:Skire if he is able to program his bot to do this. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 13:05, January 22, 2016 (UTC)
It's doable and I will go ahead and add them. --Skire (talk) 21:45, January 22, 2016 (UTC)
As far as I can tell, the bot has completed the task as expected. The licensing was also added to some category pages, but I think I've reverted all of those. --Skire (talk) 03:18, January 23, 2016 (UTC)
It's something I've been struggling with myself. I use the same terms you do, and prefer to have just clean transparent images in the item image category (looks better when overviewing), so everything not transparent goes in the location image category, with some exceptions maybe, if an in-game item image is taken really close-up with very little background surrounding it. About your activity, I understand you had some motivation problems when Xernoc went inactive. It's a pity, I think he got a job again and doesn't have time anymore. But you shouldn't depend your time on him, there's so much to do here in all kinds of areas and you should potentialy be able to find something for yourself here. We can use all the help we can get. Re: Fallout 4 quests projectEdit

I have signed up for this project as your resident "re-writer." I am a professional technical writer of 8 years and am accustomed to correcting spelling, grammar, and style, as well as rewriting unclear or circumstantial writing. I am also a Fallout (3 and beyond) fanatic; although I can certainly help to fill in the details missing in a quest, I think my skills are best employed in what I do for a living. Yea I'm not really ready to go back into the FO4 wiki for two reasons : 1. I'm looking to get a job or study 1-2 more years to add a new 'side' to my resume and 2. I'm trying to help a bit the Baldur's Gate wiki. --YoDsanklai (talk, blogs) 16:31, May 9, 2016 (UTC)

Map imagesEdit

Good to hear from you, we can use your activity now Far Harbor is released. Category for the Far Harbor map markers is Category:Far Harbor map marker images. Names should be descriptive as possible, like Cranberry Island map.png. The images you've shown me should be cut to the format of the Fallout 4 map markers (the second one is really not good, bad name, wrong color and text). Hey man I can't edit any pages but I see you were a contributor to the Echo Lake Lumber page for fallout 4 far harbor. I just wanted to let you know that if you open the vim machine door, a bottle of "vim captains blend" falls down and you can grab it. You might want to put that on there. Thanks.

Orphaned pagesEdit

In general, it is best to add links where useful. So if a terminal has a mentioned-only character, it's certainly good to change the mention of that name into a link to the page. The Boulder City memorial is something I would stay away from to avoid all kinds of controversy. People have been wanting to delete all those pages, other people want to keep them, and right now we're in the status quo where the non-unique pages have been removed from that list, but still exist, and the unique ones are still among them. I'd keep it like that. If you'd have any futher questions, feel free to ask me on my TP or in chat :) - Greets Peace'n Hugs (talk) (blog) 23:13, May 30, 2016 (UTC)

Diamond City buildingsEdit

The buildings go in the article buildings section as well as the infobox. Though I think it's sufficient to put only the more important buildings (like the larger shops and quest-related ones) in the infobox, otherwise the list in the infobx is too long.Jspoel Speech Jspoel 21:57, June 10, 2016 (UTC)

NavboxesEdit

You can leave the navbox just in one category, the Category:Navbox templates. That navbox is ok, you can add it to the item pages that are in it. For the components I was thinking of adding an icon to each separate item. I'll add the example for cooking station to your sandbox. We need a new one for the food processor and the icons should be made into templates. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 22:20, July 4, 2016 (UTC)

I added a few requested icons and made templates for them. You can find them on Template:Icon. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 17:28, July 6, 2016 (UTC)

Fission BatteryEdit

Sorry I didn't clear that up myself, wasn't even sure how. Seems the best way is just delete the "Nature" section completely but I wasn't comfortable making that call. Also seems much to list so many locations for acquisition when it's hardly important nor to mention it's value for sale considering the high weight that goes along with that. Thanks for noticing and putting a tag on it, I'm completely new to how things get marked and such. Still learning how to even comment, didn't know the little formatting tricks lol. 99.253.64.188 11:16, July 9, 2016 (UTC)

Do we really need to know every weapon that also appears in a movie? This seems like trying to link two wikis that aren't related. http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/User:FalloutOutcast seems to be modifying every weapon and page to connect to his favorite movie series. 99.253.64.188 08:12, July 10, 2016 (UTC)

ThanksEdit

At least I finally get an answer. With the mess that the page was in I couldn't even see the LAER mentioned and I'd found this cache on my own. No, a wrench isn't worth mentioning but it was the fact that all that stuff was there, not just a wrench or an LAER but five ammo boxes, a duffel bag, a weapon and while listing all that I mentioned the wrench because it was indeed sitting there. In the interest of being thorough I figured I'd include it all. I had used the collapsible/expandable template so the page wasn't such a bloody mess, but apparently that doesn't get used on Notes as I see Great Mara undoing that too.

I guess I'm just fed up. It's so much easier for people to just revert rather than fix something and it's basically a slap in the face if you've spent an hour cleaning up a page, making it neat and tidy and someone undoes it all and their reason (if you get one) is something like "we don't do it this way". Well no, you actually don't do it at all, which is why some of these pages are like reading War and Peace when you're simply looking for a list of notable loot to double check you didn't miss something. I'll leave the editing to the power mad and I'll just accept using the wiki in a poor state. Thanks for trying to make me feel welcome, you should get a promotion :) 99.253.64.188 15:56, July 12, 2016 (UTC)

Re: ShopsEdit

I'll try and get the last half dozen done over the weekend so we don't have a bunch of missing pages lingering. I'll go back and check the level 3's I've already updated, but I think they are already linked. The plan is to make sure the vendors link back to the respective shops as well.

there is one thing I want to check out before I go updating the trading emporium: there seems to be some back and forth about Tina De Luca and Holt Combes being fully functional special vendors. Any idea where I can get absolute confirmation? Sakaratte (talk) 23:30, January 6, 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for the confirmation on Holt and Tina, I think I've managed to get Tina to go to a settlement so I'll see if she is still in Vault 81 or if she moved on.
On a slightly different note regarding shops I saw you added Rank to the perk level on the {{crafting table}} which makes things much clearer. I'm going to go back through and amend all the pages to match.
Thanks for checking that out. I'll have a look in the creation kit to see if she is meant to have any special items (could just be that she stocks junk items in exceptional quantities) as she has the special settler flags attached to her. I think I'm going to call it a day for now as I seem to be having a bad day with editing. Sakaratte (talk) 20:59, January 7, 2017 (UTC) (Also having a bad day with signing off!)

Infobox locationEdit

I've seen it. It's a delicate subject (for me anyway). What's clear to me is that we shouldn't use either the section or building icon for these kind of locations, but "door". The section icon was used in Fallout 3 and New Vegas, but replaced by the door icon in Fallout 4. I've experimented with it on Valentine Detective Agency. It's a bit intrusive though in the infobox, better move it up to the green page name header (asked Gunny for it, you can see it working on the Russian wiki). Just using the most specific category is also a touchy subject (more than a year ago discussed), because now with the ever more important Wikia app it takes forever to get to such a location. First you have to click the category (already have to scroll to the bottom) Category:Fallout 4 locations, then Category:Fallout 4 towns, then Category:Diamond City and then finally Category:Diamond City buildings to get there. People may even think we don't have these settlement locations with them buried so deep. The building icon should only be used as they appear with map markers, other open area buildings without marker should get the door icon I think. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 16:40, January 9, 2017 (UTC)

Leanheartedcat has reverted my "door" edit, so go one back in the history :) Jspoel Speech Jspoel 16:43, January 9, 2017 (UTC)

Redirect pagesEdit

Hey, I've seen you marked some redirect pages for deletion with the reason "orphaned redirect". I don't really see this as a valid reason for deletion. Redirect pages are there not only to receive links from other pages, but also to make on-wikia searches easier (for example, try typing "castle tunn" in the searchbar at the top, and you'll be redirected the "The Castle tunnels". Without that redirect, the option may not show up. You can see this for example if you type "Sands" into that bar. "Shady Sands" won't be displayed as option, even though it also contains the word "Sands" as seperate word. In the case of THe Castle tunnels, users may not think of adding the "the".) and improve search engine searches. - Greets Peace'n Hugs (talk) (blog) 10:49, January 10, 2017 (UTC)

The dialogue for this quest is all in the miscellaneous "quest" DLC04DialogueHubologists in the Creation Kit, it doesn't have a name. Notable contentEdit

Hey, I saw you add the notable content template to the lunchbox page and I have to say that I'm not too much fond of having it applied to the locations list on object pages. However, I couldn't find any guideline for or against it, so I'll first ask some other people what they think. Did you have a specific reason to add it, other than making the page shorter? To me, those pages their prime function is giving people the location of those items when they want them. I see it different from location pages as locations their really important notable loot will usually already appear on the first lines and locations have plenty other content users may be looking for. With the locations of objects, there is no real hierarchy of more important things we can list higher up so they show up for sure, other than maybe locations where they are in high numbers. - Greets Peace'n Hugs (talk) (blog) 11:29, February 12, 2017 (UTC)

Food ProcessorEdit

I've just seen the change to the food processor table and I like the separation of the stats to their own columns, it uses a lot more of the screen space than the original. I've had a play around with your version in my Sandbox to see if we could try and span it across the screen, without creating huge amounts of white space and came up with having the stats side by side. That said I wouldn't be happy to switch it out unless we could put a distinct divider between the stats sets.

What do you think of what I have? Would it be better just leave it as is for now until someone can come up with something else? Sakaratte (talk) 22:24, February 12, 2017 (UTC)

I've mocked up a second version which should lead to better comparison. Its not great visually and I prefer the first version with that regards, but it might look better on mobiles as a whole. I'll switch out on your opinion.
Yours was considerably better than the one that was there originally. That one was in dire need of being replaced. Sakaratte (talk) 23:56, February 12, 2017 (UTC)

re: Fallout 4 junk items: deconstruction tablesEdit

Sorry, I didn't realise it was something that needed to be discussed. It is a big change and I should of considered raising it before sfarting. There was something else I wanted to change in past and just left it as I was unsure of the correct procedure.

I took the components out as leaving them in other uses, felt misleading, effects feels much the same to me, but I do agree they should remain in, how difficult would be to add a components section? (We already have component of in there). I like the version in your sandbox, it's clearer than what I put in place.

I realised looking at the documentation I've gone and goofed by putting crafting in other uses. I'll have to go back and clear them out. Sakaratte (talk) 18:31, February 27, 2017 (UTC)

I just re-read what you said and realised that you weren't inferring it should have been brought up for community discussion to start with, my apologises. I honestly think I got a bit too bold/ambitious with my editing and the reality check is what I needed.
I've just used it on the Abraxo cleaner industrial grade and it is working as intended. I'll loop back and update the pages I've already done then carry on with the new layout. It seems fine as is at this point in time, I really can't think of anything much else that can be added to these articles as a whole. They are going to largely be short and sweet considering that they are junk items. Sakaratte (talk) 20:11, February 27, 2017 (UTC)
Update: Just started working through the items I did before and came across Abraxo cleaner (Fallout 4), which is used as a component. Should we include the upwards craftable items in these situations (example) as junk items aren't used in many recipes or make linked references to the relevant page? Sakaratte (talk) 21:31, February 27, 2017 (UTC)
I think I've about got it in the sandbox, It didn't feel right to have the reference to upwards crafting before the table, I've slotted it below. How does it look to you? Sakaratte (talk) 23:11, February 27, 2017 (UTC)
I went with your adjustment for site traffic reasons in the end and worked for the better when I got to the antifreeze bottle. My way would have been far too wordy. With regards to the infobox again although they are not quest items per say, could/should we use the quest box on junk items that are obtained after a misc quest like Treasures of Jamaica plain? Also would it be worth having an infobox type of quest so we can highlight them separately from general misc/junk? Sakaratte (talk) 03:04, February 28, 2017 (UTC)
The ones I was looking at are more along the lines of non-essential, but can only be obtained through completion, like the Antique pocket watch and Anchorage veteran's flag in The Treasures of Jamaica Plain where they can only be obtained once you have accessed the safe room. They're completely optional to take, but can only obtained as a result of completing the quest. The optionality of them makes me say not quest, but the only means of being via completion makes me think they should. Sakaratte (talk) 18:48, February 28, 2017 (UTC)

────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────We have the cell reference so pulling a full list of items in the cell will be pretty straight forwards in CK when I get home. I'll update the Jamaica Plain items I've already updated now. Sakaratte (talk) 19:42, February 28, 2017 (UTC)

Update: I've pulled the contents now and its sat in my Sandbox for the time being. I've moved the exhibits contents to the layout as a sub header as they tie in closely. Withit being a bit non-standard can you give it the once over before I swap the article out with the changes? Sakaratte (talk) 00:18, March 1, 2017 (UTC)

I'm torn about where to place it article wise. In effect the list is a layout section consisting of 90% notable content, so adding the items to both the notable content and the layout is going to be a significant amount of duplication on the location article. (I've updated the sandbox so you can see what I mean).
I'll update the article with the duplication for now. I'll leave the notable content as a self referencing transclusion so stripping out Notable loot is straight forward out if its too much duplication. Sakaratte (talk) 20:10, March 1, 2017 (UTC)

BarbellEdit

Just had a quick read though of Barbell and the article is covering the 80lb barbell and the 40lb barbell. I'm thinking that 40lb needs spinning off on to its own page and turn Barbell into a disambiguation page as all the stats are going to be different, but the article content is going to be identical between the two items, so merge might be more appropriate. How would you call it? Sakaratte (talk) 22:15, February 28, 2017 (UTC)

World objectsEdit

If I remember correctly, if an object is in a sub category, it shouldn't be in the prior correctly should it? Objects like Eat-o-tronic should be in both imo though, the rules just don't work well for Fallout 4. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 12:45, September 2, 2017 (UTC)

Wikia's forced addition of videos to the wikiEdit

Hello, This is a message to all listed active members of the leadership team, so please accept my apologies if this seems a little impersonal.

As you may be aware, Wikia/Fandom have added a number of videos to pages on the wiki that they have self authored. Although the consensus view so far seems to be that these are not to our standards, I encourage you to view these for yourself and make up your own mind.

You can find a link to all the videos, and a petition I would like you to consider here. If you believe that these videos do not meet our standards, detract from the wiki, and should be removed, I encourage you to vote yes on this petition. You are of course welcome to vote no if you do not believe this is the case.

Thank you for your consideration. Agent c (talk) 21:10, September 7, 2017 (UTC)

Video Negotiated SettlementEdit

Thank you very much for your vote on the petition. We have had talks with Wikia/Fandom, and a settlement has been proposed. I encourage you to review it and have your say here. Agent c (talk) 20:37, September 8, 2017 (UTC)

I haven't got the paid mods either :) They should be for free already. I have every data in that sandbox from a YouTuber called Oxhorn. If you plan to create pages, first put one or two in a sandbox, so we can discuss what it generally looks like during the meeting next Sunday. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 23:46, September 22, 2017 (UTC)
Yes, I've missed you there, but you had a good reason. Hope you are feeling better. It's been discussed, I brought it up. There's still not a decision, there's about equal proposition (official Bethesda content) to opposition (they're mods). It's starting to give everyone a slight headache (me anyway). It's been returned to the bureaucrats for now. But I want to give you the opportunity (and prefer) to create a few pages. They will be created one way (official page) or the other (redirect). So go ahead, but keep it mind it's not garanteed to remain a page at this point. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 15:44, September 25, 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for creating those pages, they give it a bit more reality and shows it has as much content as similar pages. Especially the power armor pages are vast, you've put a lot of work into the power horse armor. I think I'm going to make my 300,000th edit at 20:00 hours. Project of a few months timing completed, on the Fallout 20 anniversary. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 15:08, September 30, 2017 (UTC)

Kate LeavittEdit

Here is to what I'm refering

There's a character named Ruth mentioned by Rex Meacham on two terminal entries. I think the corpse found in the Secure beverageer lab belongs to Ruth and that Kate Leavitt is mentioned-only character that was in charge of the Quantum drink as the entry Meacham RMNC-0987120 suggests.

To-do:

Create a Ruth (Nuka-World) article. Split the content between Kate Leavitt and Ruth (Nuka-World). Assign Kate Leavitt to Category:Nuka-World mentioned-only characters.

--YOD ᕦ(ò_óˇ)ᕤ 14:16, January 23, 2017 (UTC)

Various terminals cite that Rex shot Kate and also killed Ruth, Edmond is dead as well. Since we are unable to determine exactly whose body it is, (the picture posted on Kate Leavitt) I suggested we remove the picture and make all pages as "equal Mentioned only" style due to lack of evidence. Saka suggested I bring it up with you because of your above post to the talkpage from Jan.Xa3talkContributions 17:59, October 2, 2017 (UTC)

The body is in a bedroom, but there is also only one body and 2 Women. I agree that it is most likely not Kate, but without evidence isn't it just speculating? I would vote for the note about unclear ownership of the body, also we can duplicate Kate's page since Ruth doesn't have one.Xa3talkContributions 20:52, October 2, 2017 (UTC)

I was working on the IDs that are generated by the CC. Turns out every mod has it own load order number, you can see them in my User:Jspoelstra/sandbox3. I've been wondering if they are fixed numbers. I removed the infobox incomplete as from what I could tell it was complete, but you put it back on with the additional note of "previous quest". Figured I may have missed something as I was sure it was a repeatable quest. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 19:38, October 12, 2017 (UTC)
It's all good. I'm doing a speedplay for J to confirm the map at the moment, I'll stop over and see if there are any prior quests, just to be sure. 16:41, October 13, 2017 (UTC)

Why did you revert the misspelled word?Edit

Why did you revert the misspelled word?

Bil EoGuy (talk) 05:57, October 8, 2017 (UTC)

I guess you missed the first explanation I left on your talk page. Tell me if you need more details. --YOD ᕦ(ò_óˇ)ᕤ 10:28, October 8, 2017 (UTC)

I'll just go away.Edit

I can't tell the difference so it's better I quit.Edit

SamuelEdit

Moving Samuel to Samuel (Fallout 3) is not preferable. If a character is the only character that has a <game> suffix, it stays without a suffix. If for example we had a Samuel (Fallout 4), in that case, the Fallout 3 variant would be moved to Samuel (Fallout 3). You moved it now, I suppose it can stay, but I expect you to make to good disambiguation page. Now Samuel is redirecting to Samuel (Fallout 3) which doesn't have much purpose. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 15:54, October 12, 2017 (UTC)

I hadn't seen there was a Fallout 4 Samuel. Another unrelated question. Did you by any chance do The Nuclear Option (Minutemen) quest? When you're in the Institute's Public Works maintenance area, a very large part of the local map isn't visible (after you're going down the pipe). I've been there myself but I used console commands to progress and I wonder if you reach it "legally", it does spawn. But it could also be there's just not a map for it in which case it's worth a note. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 17:08, October 12, 2017 (UTC)
There must be a map, I'm (almost) sure of it. Same thing happened to me with The Mechanist's lair. It won't spawn if you coc to it without the quest. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 18:18, October 12, 2017 (UTC)

Bobbi's place terminal typoEdit

Someone fixed a typo in this revision and you reverted it (with which I'd normally agree), but this Youtube video shows that this typo is not present in the game. Because I don't want to be accused of edit warring I thought I'd leave a message. - FDekker talk 23:01, October 12, 2017 (UTC)

FloorsEdit

By American convention, the "ground" floor is the first floor. Next one up would be the 2nd floor. And as the Medord Hospital is concerned, you can't go by the elevator announcements Two seem to be using the same one even though they go to different floors. Great Mara (talk) 21:38, October 14, 2017 (UTC)

DiscordEdit

Do you have an example of the other discord box? I'd change it for a smaller one in a heartbeat Agent c (talk)

That removes the connect button, so that wont work for me. Agent c (talk) 22:08, October 14, 2017 (UTC)
150px is what I ended up setting it on the new portal. Agent c (talk) 22:14, October 14, 2017 (UTC)
A lot of that stuff is disabled by wikia, and JS needs authorisation... So its a mess I'd rather not get into. Agent c (talk) 22:35, October 14, 2017 (UTC)

Perk magazinesEdit

All magazines have their own perk page, not just the ones you mentioned. I rather keep them separated, you'd also lose some perk links if you'd start redirecting. They do need some cleanup, perk pages should contain minimal information, just the bare statistic effects, link to the related magazine page and some related notes; the magazine page contains information about the magazines themselves (and can contain perk related information in the table). It's possible there's duplicate information but as said they still are two different things with also different base IDs. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 15:33, October 17, 2017 (UTC)

YoD's guide to interwikiEdit

You mentioned doing a guide last night, if you get it up it would be great. If irlt gets done this week I'll include it in community news so it gets a bit more exposure, thinking I'm going to go on an interwiki focus this/next week. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 09:36, October 18, 2017 (UTC)

It looks nice, sort of thing I would like in the Help namespace for others to have visibility of (honestly help is lacking in useful resources, like some of Gunny's how-to's on patrolling etc.) Want to do a little more clean up first or happy for it to be moved? Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 17:42, October 20, 2017 (UTC)

Going to put the weekly news up when I get back from the store. You happy for me to include your guide on there? Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 19:53, October 22, 2017 (UTC)

Power Horse ArmorEdit

It doesn't matter. If there's more than one page with the same name, they need a disambig page. Paladin117>>iff bored; 23:44, October 25, 2017 (UTC)

They're not called mods, so no. That won't work. Paladin117>>iff bored; 23:46, October 25, 2017 (UTC)
I don't know what you're talking about with the search results. They're based off of the number of links to the page, not the name. And the disambig page is showing up as last for me. Paladin117>>iff bored; 00:52, October 26, 2017 (UTC)

Zero valuesEdit

Values of zero aren't supposed to be in the infoboxes. Those are essentialy 'noise' taking up space in the templates. Great Mara (talk) 16:43, October 28, 2017 (UTC)

If the value doesn't display on the item when examined, I don't think there's a point in listing it. For instance, we also don't list poison resistance in any of these infoboxes either. Great Mara (talk) 17:08, October 28, 2017 (UTC)
I'm going to wade in quickly on this with my two cents. Primary interest to most people would be Damage and Energy Resistance, I prefer we are explicit rather than implicit there. Anything else should be ignored if it is zero. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 17:22, October 28, 2017 (UTC)

Content ModeratorEdit

As discussion on Content moderators stalled last month and there was plenty of input, I have now raised a forum with a policy to vote on based upon the comments. When you have a moment, can you take a look at cast your votes? Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 23:36, November 11, 2017 (UTC)

For overview linksEdit

I'm not a fan of adding all those for overview links at the top of the page. If you want to see the overview, you can click William and you'll have it, the first link in the search bar. These links clutter the page unnecessarily, while it's the first thing you see. It's a bit different with the item overview links, they're related in game, on character pages they're totally unrelated. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 15:07, March 26, 2018 (UTC)

FrancisEdit

That was an oversight. I copy pasted the formatting from Francis O'Dell which saved me some typework, but forgot to change the name. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 14:40, April 3, 2018 (UTC)

Font typeEdit

Thanks for the tip on trying my luck at the Reddit font identifier.
