K9000 cybergun

Hi, I added an explanation on origin of the K9000 cybergun, but i've seen you revert what I wrote. Did I make a mistake ? Or was my supposition on the name flawed ? Thanks for answering. 21:56, June 9, 2013 (UTC)

Ghost People

I've been getting myself involved with the G.E.C.K. lately, and the bit of information regarding Ghost People having 0 Perception is something I had checked into before because of my own doubts. Here's an example of the Ghost Harvester's stats in the G.E.C.K.:

Well, even with that in mind, the note is still correct. The only reason they're hard to sneak by is because the Villa is so tightly packed together. When inside of the Casino, it's typically pretty easy to just sneak by them. I did it all the time, since after the companions were rescued, the lobby filled up with a ton of them. You make a good point. As a person from the US, the $ inherently means "money" to me, but that's probably not the case around the world. I like the idea of a bottle cap. Do we have a decently small bottlecap icon I can change it to? The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg.png 20:08, June 26, 2013 (UTC)

Value parameters

Forwarded from Gunny's talkpage

You probably won't like it having spent much time on adding the bottlecap links into the infobox, but I'm suggesting a change again (after reading TB's request to you). I don't like the $ sign that much in the infobox after all. Also a bottlecap image doesn't work that good (for me anyway). What bugs me is that it doesn't sync well with the rest of the infobox which are all just plain numbers. What do you think of removing the $ sign and instead make the value parameter link to the Currency overview page? Just like the Base id or DR link. Jspoel Speech Jspoel.png 23:15, June 27, 2013 (UTC)

Revision on Vault page

I think the note about the puppet man you find with the jumpsuit in fallout 3 is worth mentioning in the listing for vault 77, as its basically what declares the penny arcade vaults as soft cannon rather than simply fanfic. Just my take on the matter though. -XScorpion451x (talk) 18:46, June 29, 2013 (UTC)

Bot work?

Do me a favor and take a look at some of the infobxes on items that are might have more than one value. When we did the $ insertions, we had to manually insert some (with the appropriate links) on pages where there was more than one value for an item for any specific game. See if you think your bot can remove them and all the associated links? I'll try to find you an example. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg.png 16:00, July 4, 2013 (UTC)

Bears, Vandal, needs banning now, left the same message on Leon's TP.

Richie9999 (talk) 06:51, July 7, 2013 (UTC)
I think it might be a repeat vandal. I'm not the most well versed on IPs but in the block log there's at least one other anon who was banned with an IP starting with 108.206 who was banned for vandalizing. Similar method, editing GECK info or infobox info first then vandalizing articles. Dunno if that means much but I thought it might be worth mentioning. Richie9999 (talk) 07:15, July 7, 2013 (UTC)
I'll pass it on to Gunny tomorrow. Dunno if there's much else that could be done, but I think he'd like to be kept informed. Richie9999 (talk) 07:18, July 7, 2013 (UTC)

Hey Ry! Could you take a look at this conversation and input your thoughts? --Skire (talk) 19:02, July 8, 2013 (UTC)

Re: Tenure

Precisely. I've done the same, and I'm sure many others have, too. At the end of the day, most people do this (not make a lot of edits and then make a ton), and for most people it balances out, but that's both a problem and a solution. Obviously, if you can balance your edits and be consistent, you're fine, but there are people that aren't like most people and don't have balanced edits and get overshadowed by those who continue to do a lot of work.

Today for example, an admin made maybe eight to ten edits that were their own page and a few other talk pages. That's it. For the past month, he/she also eddied mainly on forums, and there's really nothing I can see that would indicate that this used was using their adminship abilities or that they need them. In fact this user hasn't made a main article edit in 5 months.

Would they use their adminship abilities when a new Fallout game comes out in a few years? Possibly. But, do they need them now? I don't see anything that would persuade me to say yes, but again that's why a review would be favorable. 02:47, July 9, 2013 (UTC)

Hey Old Chum!

Hey Ryan, it's Gunslinger here. I never meant to really criticize your ban. I was just making a point that it has happened before. While we do differ on how things should be handled I respect your decision with it and stand by it. While I know I stirred up a rift with that forum, all of what I posted need to be said even though it won't get through some users heads. I wanted to thank you for helping with Journey and helping me along when I did have an account here. If you wanna talk, you can still leave a message on my old Talk Page because I do check my page occasionally for old writings. Nice to see some friendly faces though! Talk at ya later!

Not a super editor

I know him. I think EnergyX let me know of this user around the time I got 100,000 edits. 1,5 million edits in 6 years time is impossible without a bot (which he has 3,5 million edits with). Double the Badge

That is interesting. I didn't know that could happen. When I do the sound file edits, I usually do three or four pages in a session. Since the info normally only differs by filename, I have all the pages open and copy/paste between them. Then, when I go to commit the changes, I preview the first one and while I wait for the preview to render, I switch to the next one and preview it, and so on. By that time, I can go back to the first page, see if it looks OK, and commit the changes. Then I flip through to the others, check, and commit them. So, I guess it is pretty easy for two to commit at practically the same time. Most of the time, the badges aren't involved, of course. But I don't think I got double points, because if I remember correctly, I started the day at 1,350 and now have 1,450. --FFIX (talk) 18:49, September 4, 2013 (UTC)

I'm a little annoyed with it because they shouldn't be there in the first place. All was good a few weeks ago. Search results always gave the original page and not a redirect. Now it's all wrong. Don't understand it. Wait with the botwork, I'll get back to you on that Saturday. Jspoel Speech Jspoel.png 22:18, September 4, 2013 (UTC)

It's not as simple as you might think. Every link needs to be checked individually and there's still a lot of manual work involved. You can now redirect pages that link to Gauss Rifle, Power Armor and Tesla Armor with your bot (I already deleted the pages). If I have more I'll post them here. Jspoel Speech Jspoel.png 18:43, September 6, 2013 (UTC)
Your bot is making all kinds of mistakes redlinking images and decaps where it shouldn't (dialogue files, dev pages). I told you it was a delicate process. Just replace the ones I added here in your talkpage. Jspoel Speech Jspoel.png 18:42, September 7, 2013 (UTC)
I unblocked your bot. Maybe use the [[ like change everything [[Tesla Armor]] into [[Tesla armor]]. The redlinks are all on talkpages and user pages. Jspoel Speech Jspoel.png 18:51, September 7, 2013 (UTC)

Come on. We're speculating here. If you can't cite it, don't put it in. And "you are free to take up a debate, but for now it stays" isn't how it works. We should leave it out until a consensus is reached. 22:17, September 27, 2013 (UTC)

Gallow's Humour

I'm afraid I'm going to have to be that guy. The anon was correct to remove that BtS information. Not only is it speculative, but it's bad speculation. Gallow's Humour in technical terms has no correlation to the unmarked quest of the same name in Fallout 3. They plain and simply do not relate to each other, and so we cannot make the assumption that there is a reference involved there. I'll wait for your input, but at this point, I'm leaning towards removing it again as it breaks our policies. ForGaroux.png Some Assembly Required! 22:18, September 27, 2013 (UTC)

Gallow's Humor deals with aspects of hopelessness such as death, disease, famine, and war. (Consider it a sort of allusion towards the 4 horsemen.) There is no similarity in the respective unmarked quest of the same name, and so there is no obvious reference, making this blatant speculation. ForGaroux.png Some Assembly Required! 22:24, September 27, 2013 (UTC)
Not up to me to decide, as my personal opinion does not matter without a source to back it up. Because that's the funny thing about speculation: Everyone who comes up with speculation thinks they're right. That's why we don't allow it. Anyways, I'm not seeing any evidence aside from a mere assumption due to name similarity. Are there any sources at all to back this information? Because if not, I'm going to have to remove it. ForGaroux.png Some Assembly Required! 22:28, September 27, 2013 (UTC)
Trivial to you, maybe. And yes, I will over-ride 3 other Admins, because this is breaking policies without a source to back it up. I take the professionalism of our wiki very seriously. ForGaroux.png Some Assembly Required! 22:33, September 27, 2013 (UTC)
I understand that. Want to know my personal opinion? I think it's true, too. But I keep my bias to myself, so our wiki doesn't become bogged down with peoples' personal interpretations. It wouldn't be fair to those readers that come here for factual information. ForGaroux.png Some Assembly Required! 22:34, September 27, 2013 (UTC)

I'm asserting that we don't know if the quest's name is derived directly from the term. I am not asserting that I do not think the quest's name is derived directly from the term. My opinion is irrelevant. This is a matter of what we know, and we don't have any source to back all of this up. 22:36, September 27, 2013 (UTC)

I'm sorry if I sounded condescending with that. It wasn't my intent. But when it comes to my Administrative duties, I defend facts above all else. This is one of those cases where it seems minor to everyone, but sets a precedence. I don't want to see that. ForGaroux.png Some Assembly Required! 22:38, September 27, 2013 (UTC)

Administrators don't get to team up and decide what's what. I am following the policies. If you want to change the policy, then I'll defend your right to debate. But until then, I'm still seeing nothing other than mere assumptions. ForGaroux.png Some Assembly Required! 22:40, September 27, 2013 (UTC)

Just answer this question, and we can add the reference in:

Do you know that the quest's name is a direct reference to the term? 22:43, September 27, 2013 (UTC)

I read what you said on Gunny's talk page: "If present administrators/users feel that the reference is obvious enough they may add that reference to the article." I find that to be ridiculous. What happened to our information being objective? Do you think people really come here to read about what you think is true? Do we not have more of a responsibility to provide accurate information? 02:11, September 28, 2013 (UTC)

That's so subjective though. It's up to you as to what is "blatantly obvious"; it's not set in stone somewhere. And how would we determine what's obvious and what's not? Based on everyone's opinions? Where are the facts in that? 02:32, September 28, 2013 (UTC)
I don't know about basing what we put into articles on what we say instead of what we know. And by the way, I'm not asserting that the Gallows quest is not related to the term. The only thing I could say about the relationship would be speculation, no matter how likely it is. Sure, some are going to say that they're obviously related, but I'm still unable to see why our opinions should now be considered valid additions to pages. 02:44, September 28, 2013 (UTC)
I also don't agree that the long time it would take to confirm references should be a factor in choosing to include references that are only likely at most. 02:45, September 28, 2013 (UTC)

Chat conduct guideline changes

Hey Burrs. In light of Saint Pain's chat ban and after some discussion with Leon and J I've decided to do some minor re-writes to the chat conduct guideline page. Basically what I'm looking to do is:

  • Remove the current ban guidelines and give more leeway for mods to ban people on a case-by-case basis
  • Add a provision for perma-banned users to appeal their ban immediately to a bureaucrat

There's a few other re-wordings and some stuff moved around, but those are the big things I think need need changing. You can find a draft here. I included an original copy of the guideline so you can see the changes. Please let me know what you think and if this is something you support. Non-functioning script

Hey Burrs. I ran a couple scripts yesterday that seem to get started and fail partway through, and I'm not sure why. The script I'm running is python and it goes through a few pages and then I get this error:

I feel like it's trying to parse a template and can't read it and that's why it's returning the illegal character error. Can you verify that this is the cause of the issue?
