Edit Summaries

Not entirely sure if it is my place to say anything personally anymore, so I wanted to point you to some of the edit summaries the editor Benny has made. Really nice to see another rising editor, but they appear to be making a few minor mistakes, and one of them seems to be the misuse of the edit summary tool for passive-aggressive comments. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 16:19, June 2, 2014 (UTC)

That sort of automated message about edit-warring(?) to Benny was a bit out of place I think. Rather unpersonal. If you have to say something about his summary comments, in this case it would have been better to write it in your own words. He's done enough for the wiki to earn that much. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 16:32, June 2, 2014 (UTC)
You have to look at the one who's getting such a message. Benny has done a good deal for the wiki's content. He deserves more than the template message, even more so because you know him from chat. You can send the template message to anons messing about or users with 25 edits who are making such summary box comments. Benny doesn't fit those categories. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 17:00, June 2, 2014 (UTC)
I agree. Some time ago I was left a template by a fellow admin and it was extremely degrading. As J said, keep its use to anons and beginning editors.--TwoBearsHigh-Fiving (Talk) 17:09, June 2, 2014 (UTC)

Would you kindly

Richie, would you kindly not keep deleting this or at least give me a good reason as to why you repeatedly delete my section. Until you do, I will keep re-adding it to the outcasts page

Still waiting

I am still awaiting a reason for the deletion Richie. If you cannot, I will take this up with Jspoelstra.

At no point did I say who was winning or losing. I only stated who was making more strides in terms of technological research. Also, since Liberty Prime was destroyed at the end of the Broken Steel content, the Brotherhood no longer has a functioning Liberty Prime and we have not physically seen Liberty Prime back up and running.

Signed, Chief editor 13. 17:56, June 3, 2014 (UTC)

Outcasts 2

my exact words

When compared to their friendlier, less technology obsessed counterparts, The Capital Wasteland Brotherhood, the Outcasts are ahead of the Wasteland Brotherhood. In addition to the aforementioned reprogrammed robots, the Outcasts have more functioning energy weapons. While the Wasteland Brotherhood supplements its arsenal with firearms such as the Assault rifle and the Chinese assault rifle, the Outcasts are almost exclusively armed with Energy Weapons. The standard weapon for the outcasts is mostly the Laser rifle, occasionally the Laser Pistol, with the Gatling laser making a frequent appearance around their main base.

Elder Lyons has noted that they are trying to either improvise new weapons or parts for weapons, such as the Plasma caster (fruitlessly though). If one explores the base, this is true. Especially if one looks at the Fort Independence terminal entries. They have even tried improving their weapons and have done research. Their most recent project has been the Miss Launcher, has also been fruitless.

However, this was under the technology section, not the relations section. Also, the Miss Launcher was not mentioned before, the plasma caster was mentioned in quotations and not by In-game name. Also, as you mentioned before, the Wasteland brotherhood has more members, so it is natural that they would be fielding more suits. However, Initiates are equipped only with Recon armor or Combat armor.

Could have just.....

You know you could have just added it to the "Notes" without deleting my trivia section. HagoromoOtsutsuki (talk) 21:47, June 3, 2014 (UTC)HagoromoOtsutsuki

The edit that was undone on the A note from Little Moonbeam's father-page was an overlink, check the first line of the page, the link there to Sydney's father, is followed by |father, while the "Sydney" in "Sydney's father" is linked to Sydney herself, thus making the link in the text an overlink. Any objections if I remove that link again? - Greets Peace'n Hugs (talk) (blog) 09:56, June 4, 2014 (UTC)

Item dropping via floor

While I agree minor clipping bug should not be noted (there are too many) this is a case of item dropping through floor if touched. Other instances of this are mentioned throughout the wikia (see Lone Wolf Radio). It's the setup that's unusual, not the item itself. Mad Dog Fargo (talk) 07:30, June 5, 2014 (UTC)

"Naming convention"?

I don't understand why you had to undo the uppercasing of "L" in "Nuka Launcher"-redirections. Please explain what it is about. --Breakin'Benny (talk) 09:31, June 6, 2014 (UTC)

I see, then, it's kinda like on Wolfenstein Wiki with the "rocket launcher/missile launcher" I suppose. I'm afraid you might've missed the one I made on the Nuka Launcher's redirection itself...I tried taking care of it only to realize there already exists a Nuka launcher with lowercase "L". --Breakin'Benny (talk) 20:58, June 6, 2014 (UTC)

FW:EDIT clearly states that articles must be written in present tense with the exception of references to events that happened before the Fallout games. It does not make an exception for cancelled games. Can you please justify your recent changes? I have not reverted anything yet BTW. --Skire (talk) 01:47, June 12, 2014 (UTC)

So what you are planning is a complete change in wording for all VB articles, including excerpts from design docs for the sake of consistency? (Pardon me if the question sounds loaded lol.) Since most of the VB articles make it clear that VB was never an actual game, there is no reasonable chance of confusion in that respect. It therefore, in my view, becomes a matter of consistency (which I will not say is unimportant). Just wanted to confirm intentions and see if I could help with my bot (there are a lot of VB pages!) Let me know. --Skire (talk) 02:25, June 12, 2014 (UTC)
Then the inconsistency between the lead section and the article body isn't a problem? If so, the task will seem much less insurmountable. --Skire (talk) 02:31, June 12, 2014 (UTC)
A personal philosophy of mine is, "There is no edit a bot can do that a user cannot, but there are edits that a bot should do that a user should not be doing." I can go ahead and begin changes tomorrow. I can do the references thing and Bears can handle the other task. With the combined bot power, it'll be done in no time. It's healthier for the RC/RWA too! --Skire (talk) 02:48, June 12, 2014 (UTC)

Could you explain me what all the "NaNxNaNpx to 135px" stuff is? I've seen so many anons do this with in their contributions the summary it was automatically done. Is this a bad thing (I don't see much of a difference)? Can't we block it if it's a bad thing? - Greets Peace'n Hugs (talk) (blog) 00:31, June 13, 2014 (UTC)

Okay, thanks. I'll also start reverting this kind of stuff then.- Greets Peace'n Hugs (talk) (blog) 06:34, June 13, 2014 (UTC)

I asked Wikia again about this NaNxNaPx error. It's becoming an annoyance. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 13:25, June 13, 2014 (UTC)
I was just told by Wikia that they now disabled the VE for the time being and reinstated the source text editor as primary editor for anonymous users. That should help a bit. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 16:50, June 13, 2014 (UTC)
NaN stands for 'Not a Number', so essentially Wikia has made their site programming too dumb to understand the box function using one parameter so it essentially converts them to 'Not a Number'px x 'Not a Number'px. Great Mara (talk) 19:08, June 13, 2014 (UTC)
It's not "specifically" a wikia issue. This was a bug in mediawiki base software that was found, filed and solved earlier this year. I dug up the original bug report and fix suggestion a while ago, and assumed that Wikia's engineers were well aware of it. Since it's only cropped up in the new visual editor, whatever fix they made to stop it in the other editors must not work in the new visual editor, which suggests to me that it's not a proper fix. Or perhaps the fix was not/could not be incorporated into the new visual editor. But I just wanted to clarify that it's not a bug that was created by the new visual editor, just a mediawiki bug that doesn't seem to be fixed in the new visual editor yet. The Gunny  UserGunny chevrons 19:26, June 13, 2014 (UTC)

Keep in mind that we consider all DLCs canon here at Nukapedia. However, whether or not it should be mentioned that the Courier becomes a Cyborg, is up to you and everyone else. I know that we list other characters such as Star Paladin Cross as being Cyborgs in their race parameters, so I figured it would be appropriate there as well. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 06:35, June 28, 2014 (UTC)

I am afraid that is not the case. The Courier is forced to become a Cyborg, and that is not left up to player character choice. Even when you get your body parts back, cybernetics are still left within you, and you are able to switch out parts whenever you wish. This is further clarified upon perks you receive which confirm that even with your regular bodyparts, your cybernetics are still benefiting you. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 06:44, June 28, 2014 (UTC)
If you feel that is best. You might wish to discuss that with a few other users - we have had a bit of a double-standard going on for years anyways, and so certain pages detail hybrid races with each race, and some hybrid races are only detailed by their primary race. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 06:49, June 28, 2014 (UTC)
And as a side-note, which you can take as you wish, Lobotomites are not a race. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 06:51, June 28, 2014 (UTC)

Fesson-Moch Speculation

You're right that "pre-war" is speculation, so how do we rephrase the "company" page to reflect this? I can't think of anything 69.l25 (talk) 01:06, September 21, 2014 (UTC)

"Firearm manufacturer" is a great idea for now, but which infobox should we use? The only thing I can think of is the factions infobox, but still, that wouldn't be a great choice. 69.l25 (talk) 01:14, September 21, 2014 (UTC)
I'm thinking we should actually just take out the infobox altogether and remove any references to it being a pre-war company. Like you said, we don't even know if the page is staying; at this point it's better to be correct and have no infobox than be polished and use a substitute infobox like "factions," which is stretching it. 69.l25 (talk) 01:33, September 21, 2014 (UTC)

Heist of the Century

Hello, my good admin! I have noticed something, I placed a notes section on the "Heist Of The Centuries" quest page, and apparantly you deleted it. I could change the title "Notes" to "bug Strategies" as that is more applicable to it's current content. is it something I added? I wrote a contact for me on the page as I currently moderate that newly added section and I, personally, ran into this issue on my PS3, and discovered a strategy to bypass it and would like to share with others this workaround while leaving space for others to post a bug and a possible workaround for it. if you don't want me to have the note on the top of the section, I can remove it, or you can, your choice. But really, i'd like to find out why you removed it. please tell me why, so I can improve, as all I wish to do is help the community in any way I can. if you find something is false, tell me. Thanks! --Mrminesheeps1 (talk) 04:22, October 31, 2014 (UTC)Mrminesheeps1

I agree. That is why I used Special:Contact, as the conflict escalated to the point where I no longer felt comfortable being involved. As far as I am concerned, the matter is over with. Wikia Staff will review my message, and will determine whether that last part of the conflict is worthy or not as an actionable offense. Regardless of their decision, I consider myself no longer a part of the discussion at hand.

So do not worry - I have nothing further to add to the conflict. The judgment lies with Wikia Staff, and I am content with that. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 02:38, November 24, 2014 (UTC)

Salient Green

I left a response on the Salient Green talk-page. Also, for future reference, please do not edit-war. An anonymous user's edit was reverted by Cassie, and then you reverted her revert, which means that you were edit-warring until Skire restored the status quo.

This discussion has been interesting in the past, and I am very interested in seeing if you have any connections that have not been seen yet (I am being sincere when I say that). So far, no one has, and I would welcome the chance to be proven wrong on a subject that has been discussed for quite some time now. Looking forward to your response (on the SG TP)! ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 07:26, November 26, 2014 (UTC)

If none of you guys want to create a forum, would you prefer it if I did? The big deal here, is that if we are going to have exceptions to our policies, then we need to make these exceptions official. I also think that Salient Green is a reference to Soylent Green, and I think out of all of the speculation that we have here, that this reference is one of the closest bets we have.
But if we just allow an informal vote to shoehorn this speculation in, then it is setting yet another bad precedent, which newer users will pick up on. There are quite a few references similar to this reference, and I would actually enjoy the chance to discuss with the community, during my time off this Thanksgiving week, to gather everyone's opinions on which speculation should be officially endorsed, even without developer commentary.
Does that sound fair? ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 07:16, November 27, 2014 (UTC)

I already explained how you are wrong, and I am not going to rehash what I have already said. Are you willing to accept the compromise? A forum that will discuss official exceptions for unique speculation, will go much better than the poor example currently being made.

Also, for the record, restoring articles to its prior status quo, is not edit-warring. Our discussion was not complete, and there is still a policy being broke here, with a compromise currently in discussion. I was within my rights. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 07:23, November 27, 2014 (UTC)

Then you have lost a lot of respect from me:

  • Edit-warring
  • Used argumentum ad populum to bypass our content policies, which clearly states that all information must be verifiable by all users
  • Abused another policy, by using it wrongly. A direct textual correlation is only something which shares an identical text, such as through using song verses.
  • Broke our administration policy, by abusing your administrative powers to settle a conflict, in which your placed an administrative protection on the page, even though you are a biased party.
  • Refused a perfectly reasonable compromise, which means that you only care about your own agenda, instead of trying to create harmony in a conflict.

I have no energy to continue this further. But I am disappointed, as in this scenario, you failed as a role-model editor. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 07:33, November 27, 2014 (UTC)
