John[edit source]

Yes. The GECK entry for John (Fallout 3) has a specific model. 69.l25 (talk) 02:45, January 1, 2014 (UTC)

No it's not possible. I've had to deconstruct the script that spawned him a while back for Jspoel so that he could force the encounter to get the NPC's refid. "I have been playing Fallout 3 across different platforms (while at friends places and at home) and have come across this NPC quite a few times and he has had a different appearance each time." That hardly demonstrates to my satisfaction that the John will actually have multiple appearances. 69.l25 (talk) 02:53, January 1, 2014 (UTC)
You have the GECK, right? You can check the entry for John if you want. 69.l25 (talk) 02:58, January 1, 2014 (UTC)
Yes, but if John is appearing he will have a definite appearance; what is there to suggest otherwise? What model would he change to? Every model in the game is accessible in the GECK. 69.l25 (talk) 03:03, January 1, 2014 (UTC)

John II[edit source]

No and it's been deleted now by an admin who I've already discussed this with. Republic of Faffi (talk) 03:15, January 1, 2014 (UTC)

Also, my issue was he was different when I came across him a few times but it was suggested I came across someone else. I've been playing these games for years but anyway, it could be a bug which is why it was in the bugs section and I was merely verifying something that someone else had written, I didn't write that bug up originally. I was going to link to that unique/rare toolbox, and it turns out from I've seen that we do not have that toolbox detailed anywhere on Nukapedia. You said to me that you were going to sleep, so I hope you don't mind that I went ahead and asked 69 to find that information and add it to the wiki. Dialogue files[edit source]

Paladin, I see you're giving it a go with the FNV dialogue files. This way it's monk's work and will take years. TV is using a dialogue organizer program which automates the whole transfer, with the pipe symbols. Or it may be that they use Excel which transfers the export dialogue file into columns and then use a macro (which can repeat an automated process to infinity) to reorganize the lines and add the pipe symbol (and - for a line break) to all lines. That's why you're seeing Ant doing it so fast. They won't tell us how they do it, so we will have to invent that wheel again for ourselves. I'll see if somehow I can get a macro working in Excel. I'm not going to start working on it one line at a time anyway. Jspoel Speech Jspoel.png 18:00, January 17, 2014 (UTC)

Good news. I got an offer from Theodorico over the Russian wiki to take a look at it and he can make a program that would automate the conversion. So it's best to wait until he gets it running and then we can assemble some workforce. 22:41, January 17, 2014 (UTC)

Dialogues[edit source]

I have a proposition for you. Can you help out with extracting the Fallout: New Vegas dialogue files from the GECK? It's not that hard, you can find the dialogue of each character in their GECK stats, select it, sort it a bit in Excel or OpenOffice and almost plain copy it to a wiki page. Theodorico (has a Russian name now) uses his bot to convert it to a table like you see here. Looks great, doesn't it and we add it to the character's infobox and can use it for reference. I can give you the details if you're interested. We're talking a few thousand entries so I can use all the help I can get. Let me know, ok? Jspoel Speech Jspoel.png 00:43, February 3, 2014 (UTC)

Great! We're doing FNV first, then FO3. Detailed explanation is on FFIX his page. He does User column 50-41, so you can do 40-31. Good luck! Jspoel Speech Jspoel.png 01:59, February 3, 2014 (UTC)
Yep, all good so you can go ahead and do more. Going to bed now, 3:45 am here ya know. Don't expect answers anymore from me today. Jspoel Speech Jspoel.png 02:46, February 3, 2014 (UTC)
Hello, I see that you are working on the dialogues too. Just wanted to let you know I have finished 50-41 and since you are doing 40-31 I am going to move on to 30-21. Just trying to make sure we don't collide with each other. --FFIX (talk) 14:12, February 3, 2014 (UTC)
I started out removing the unwanted NPCs but this morning found a message on Jspoelstra's talk from the bot operator that it wasn't necessary. That step adds quite a bit of time so I figured I could get them up faster by not doing it. --FFIX (talk) 15:21, February 3, 2014 (UTC)

( Choice if you want to remove unwanted NPCs (only leaving the unique one) is up to you. I'm done in about 30 seconds removing them. Once we get down to the 20 or so Users there will be generic NPCs like legionaries, NCR troopers, thugs etc. You can skip those for the time being. Only do the unique named NPCs. Jspoel Speech Jspoel.png 15:56, February 3, 2014 (UTC)

I can hardly believe it, but well a day in this mini-project were down to the 1 Users column with mainly generic characters left! Mostly thanks to FFIX we're close to 400 FNV dialogues now. I'm almost done with the add-ons as well. You can go to Fallout 3 now. But there's something different to sort on. Strangely enough I think it's RACE you need to sort on. Then you'll get a whole bunch of -- rows you can delete while you need to keep the lines that have the GetIsID == 1 coding in the RACE column. Those seem to be the unique lines. Bot coding is {{Bot rewrite|RACE=GetIsID == 1}}. Jspoel Speech Jspoel.png 00:21, February 4, 2014 (UTC)
On second thought, better do a complete export. And leave the bot coding open for now ({{Bot rewrite|}}). Not sure about the RACE and GetIsID, need to verify that. Jspoel Speech Jspoel.png 00:25, February 4, 2014 (UTC)
Hey, I saw that we are moving on to FO3 now. I am close to turning in for the night, so I won't be doing any more dialogues tonight. If you do, you can start wherever you want and not have to worry about colliding with me. I can get with you tomorrow and see what we each want to work on. --FFIX (talk) 00:43, February 4, 2014 (UTC)

( Ok, you can do that. I just checked it and it is tricky indeed. With the add-on, some lines are added but they are hard to find. For Three Dog you can them in the Radio tab (DLC03). Load the add-on for which you think the character has more lines in that add-on is my best guess... Jspoel Speech Jspoel.png 01:05, February 4, 2014 (UTC)

Fawkes and Uncle Leo[edit source]

I would mainly construe that the two of them are unique mutations, in that both of them maintain cognitive thought patterns. Such as Fawkes ability to read and learn, and having a want to continue this learning. Setting him strides apart from the rest of the Vault 87 mutants. And though true that 87's humans would have been pure humans, it seems their version of the FEV wasn't up to the same snuff that the Mariposa base had in it's labs. Just given all of their deformities and low intelligence. So I only listed Fawkes as such because of his learning ability, and reasoning patterns, that imho set him aside from the rest. Uncle Leo I would only assume is unique in that he's a pacifist. Much different than the nature of the rest of his kin. Though I will concede that Leo is not likely an original Vault 87 dweller, like Fawkes. Otherwise in this aspect, Marcus isn't very unique himself, given that the only thing that sets him aside, is a reasoning and morality. Deadling (talk) 19:09, February 17, 2014 (UTC)

Brotherhood T-51b armor[edit source]

Can you please explain why you feel the BoS T-51b armor is not notable? The value (5200 caps) and the ability to outfit Veronica with one of the best armor in the game at no cost to the player would IMO make it notable. The 'notable' regular T-51b can be purchased, unlike the BoS variant.

Note that 'Fat Man' is considered notable, when it is sold by multiple vendors (unlike BoS T-51b armor) and worth only 800 caps more. The 'Metal Armor, Reinforced' is also considered notable even though it is worth much less (3500 caps) and again sold by vendors unlike BoS T-51b. Would be nice if the criteria were followed consistently.

Mad Dog Fargo (talk) 03:24, June 3, 2014 (UTC)

Thank you for your response. However most of the reasons given are not on the 'Notable Loot' criteria. Are they arbitrary? In any case I opined that 6 copies in the whole game world (obtainable without attacking neutral NPCs) is still somewhat rare. Why are 'Fat Man' and 'Metal Armor, Reinforced' both notable when many copies can be obtained (many more easily than BoS T-51b armors)? Also, while it is possible to kill NPCs to get (also true of other items already considered 'Notable' by the way, e.g. 'Riot Shotgun'), it goes against the playing style of many players . I also note the inconsistencies of disregarding item value when it is a criteria of the notable loot policy (#2), and 122 caps laying around McCarran Terminal is considered notable (BoS armor is worth 5200 caps). It seems it would be more appropriate to determine 'notability' by usefulness to players at various stages of game rather than a rigid 'how many copies in game world' determination. Mad Dog Fargo (talk) 04:57, June 3, 2014 (UTC)
A little bit of a straw-man argument here don't you think? I never said that T-51b should not be notable, personally I think all power armor should be notable. But it's odd that you said item value is not why an item is notable and that it only has to fit ONE of the criteria, yet the second criteria is 'High monetary value', which the BoS T-51b armor fits into. 5200 caps sitting around for the taking on top of being a somewhere rare armor in the Mojave Wasteland (only 6 copies obtainable without killing) you don't think? I am repeating myself. Mad Dog Fargo (talk) 03:39, June 4, 2014 (UTC)

BC Endorsement Policy[edit source]

As the policy states, we as administrators reserve the right to veto a policy change if we choose to do so. On the endorsements referendum, we could not reach an absolute majority on whether or not bureaucrats can endorse and what restrictions they would have/would not have if they could. Only a (and this is debatable) plurality was reached, and it is looking like users are deciding to forgo continuing the debate and deny bureaucrats (sysops) the right to endorse. Thus, I am making a polite attempt to gain supporters for a veto of this policy change. I am sending you this message because you voted in favor of bureaucrat endorsement. In closing, I would like to ask the following question: Can I count on your support in a veto of this policy change? Thank you for your consideration. Navy athletics.gif Don't give up the ship! Bill the goat.gif 05:40, June 14, 2014 (UTC)

In light of Leon pointing out a flaw in my message, allow me to clarify why I am doing this: I believe the policy change to be unfair on the grounds that it is a split vote. In total, 10 users voted for options 2 and 3 (both of which allow bureaucrats to endorse; 4 users voted for option 2, which places restrictions on that right), which tallies to 10 users in support of bureaucrat endorsement, and 8 users voted for option 1, which opposes the right of endorsement. Thus, the side in support of bureaucrat endorsement was split. The veto policy states that vetoes can be used for valid reasons. I cite my reason as improper procedure. See the referendum results for further clarification. Navy athletics.gif Don't give up the ship! Bill the goat.gif 06:16, June 14, 2014 (UTC)

And who says you can tell me what to do? If you can't use proper grammar then don't write guides for a website. It makes you look unprofessional. I think a game designer would know how important it is to make shit look good. 01:51, August 10, 2014 (UTC)

So, you think I care you're an admin? I was admin here waaay before you showed up here, buddy; so don't try and play the admin card on me. Also, I will belittle people if I please. I didn't target any specific person; I was addressing the user-base as a whole, because if one can't properly use its and it's then one shouldn't be on the Internet in the first place.

Abouth you GECK[edit source]

So you sure this thing calculate all things multiplicative like you sugest. But im not realy sure this bonuses is calculated like this becouse base they effect is same so they should be aditive to each other. If one effect the base value after other they actualy deminishing efect of each other. If that worck same on guns demage then i trie to understand, if not you are probably wrong. I gived up realy to fight whit undo people and they frends, i just live them in they OWB get move on. —Preceding unsigned comment added by NEVER BoRN (talkcontribs). Untitled 2[edit source]

Alright, mate. Just wanted to clear some things up. You're saying Knight Sergeant Wilks outranks the Paladins since the GNR building his in charge of contains them.

But then on the BoS (Capital Wasteland) page, it says the Paladins are veterans in the Brotherhood, many being members of Elder Lyons' original party that came out to D.C. They're amongst the best warriors who are often high ranking field commanders or used in elite strike teams.

Some of the Paladins we seen in the game like Vargas, happens to be second in command of the Lyons' Pride that includes two other Paladins and three Knight Captains. And then there's Tristan, who became the acting field commander for the Brotherhood forces during Broken Steel, while Sentinel Lyons was out.

During Broken Steel, when you first meet up with Paladin Tristan at Rockland Car Tunnel, you can ask him "So you're in charge now, huh?" and he'll answer "Until Sarah gets back on her feet, I'm running the Pride. It's just temporary." By his own admission, doesn't that mean he outranks the three Knight Captains in the Lyons' Pride, since his able to take charge of their unit?

Then on the Prima Guide, it mentions Paladin Vargas being the sergeant of the Lyons' Pride and Sarah's right hand man, which would implied his the second in command.

Just to interject here, as I mentioned before, command (which is a billet, not a rank), does not necessarily always fall to the most senior rank present. It commonly does, but not always. You can't go blindly by command structure to determine rank structure.
