Cruz[edit source]

Pages with a (disambiguation) suffix should be kept to a minimum. The page without that suffix is much more prefered, looks much neater and has the same effect. And (disambiguation) suffixes are only used in cases of major pages which need to have the main page, like Harold, Courier, Henry of the Prisoner. Then to have a disambiguation page, the (disambiguation) can be created. Cruz is much too small a character to distinguish it with such a disambig. Jspoel Speech Jspoel.png 13:48, September 21, 2016 (UTC)

Good enough. Have a nice day JSP! NomadMC (talk) 16:37, September 21, 2016 (UTC)

Just asking[edit source]

Even though your edits are good, you seem to edit your pages just after you edit it multiple times, just curious why you did not do it first time?

Anyway, bye NomandMC! Lachdog, 6:23, November 6, 2016 (UTC)

Thanks![edit source]

That is good to hear, like what i said before, just curious.

Thanks for the reply NormandMC!

Patroller requirements[edit source]

You can find it on Fallout_Wiki:Administrators_and_moderators#User_rights_requests. You could ask me, but I wouldn't give it right now, I've seen people gone inactive too much after they got the rights. Keep up the consistency, maybe try it early next year. You can see best what needs to be done on the wiki in the categories below Category:Attention required, random page is not the best way. Jspoel Speech Jspoel.png 13:39, November 28, 2016 (UTC)

I now see you have 189 mainspace edits, so still a few dozen to go to meet the requirements. Adding characteristics like you just did are welcome edits. Jspoel Speech Jspoel.png 13:54, November 28, 2016 (UTC)

Merry Christmas 2016![edit source]

Userboxes[edit source]

It's fixed. Also created a Fo4 add-on userbox template. Jspoel Speech Jspoel.png 22:17, December 26, 2016 (UTC)

Thank you![edit source]

This is probably not worth a new subject on your talk page but sorry for that I didn't answer you in chat earlier. And thanks you very much for the compliment! By the way, I haven't visited your profile until now and I must say it has really begun to look a whole lot more professional, keep it up Nomad! Best regards,JackiBackiBoy (talk) 14:16, December 28, 2016 (UTC)

As with removing the backdrop on any images, you always get the best result from manually cropping it out, I use the pen tool for images with busy backgrounds and the quick selection tool on images with only a few colors in them. As for the screenshots, I use Fraps. In 99.5% of the cases I save my images in the format PNG, because for me PNG offers the highest and most detailed resolution. I get the base ID:s from various sources like the creation kit and sometimes from this wikia. I then spawn the object in using console commands and then adjust brightness in game. Take a screenshot and then cut out the object in Photoshop CC. Thanks for the compliment! JackiBackiBoy (talk) 01:03, December 29, 2016 (UTC)
Thank you for the kind words! JackiBackiBoy (talk) 21:22, January 1, 2017 (UTC)

Chat?[edit source]

This is probably the most time wasting post ever, but could you join chat again, missed you with a few minutes. Feels bad, you can come in now again if you want. JackiBackiBoy (talk) 14:10, January 7, 2017 (UTC)

Patroller request[edit source]

Thanks for the friendly words. You're on the right track and I promised you to take another look at it after the holidays, but I feel it's still a bit too soon. In my opinion the patroller rank and editing are tied together, and you're still lacking somewhat in that department with a little over 300 mainspace edits (should preferably be near 500). Officially you'd qualify, but my standards for handing them out are raised, also from bad past experiences. Like I said, you're on the right track, and I'm particarly happy about your blogs. Just some more time editing like you do now and you'll have a good chance. Jspoel Speech Jspoel.png 18:43, January 7, 2017 (UTC)

You're probably a bit disappointed, but I see you have the right attitude, and if you follow my advice it'll come in good time. Jspoel Speech Jspoel.png 18:59, January 7, 2017 (UTC)

Malden[edit source]

Hello Nomad! Just wanted to leave a quick reminder about listing Malden in the "Part of" section, remember to list Malden or any other district for that matter as the only place the location is part of. For example the Malden Center, you've listed it as part of The Commonwealth and Malden, which is correct but it makes it more clear rather or not a location is part of a district if the district is the only one listed in the "Part of" section. Just wanted to leave a quick reminder buddy! See you in chat later bud! JackiBackiBoy (talk) 16:44, January 11, 2017 (UTC)

All bugs not visible[edit source]

Some pages with a long bug list are collapsed with a template, that's why you only see the first 5. Look to the right side at the first bug line, you'll see More.... Click on it and it will unfold. Jspoel Speech Jspoel.png 13:19, January 26, 2017 (UTC)

No not really new, I've been using it for almost a year now I think, to make long bug lists not stand out so much. Jspoel Speech Jspoel.png 13:24, January 26, 2017 (UTC)

Polls[edit source]

Hey Nomad. Noticed you've been pretty regular with your unofficial polls. I admire the commitment.

I'm wondering if you might like to make them official so we can get you on the front page.

Traditionally we've had community blogs midweek and weekend, but all but the weekend stuff has fallen by the wayside. If you'd be happy to change to a Tuesday or Wednesday, and maybe jazz up your polls with a few images we could look at that. Agent c (talk) 14:39, January 27, 2017 (UTC)

I love your polls. they make my day so much better because no one evr listens to me IRL and it feels like I'm contributing to something. Just wanted you to know that. Fallout4Superfan (talk)

I Understand[edit source]

I understand that my comment on Creepkiller37's blog could have sounded quiet rude depending on how you read it and I apologize for that, but I do not appreciate the way you handled my little slip-up. I hope we can move past this as members of the same fandom and I hope you continue to give me constructice critisism on my foreward works. Thank you.

Patroller rights[edit source]

I've given you patroller rights. I'll have to get back to you on the main page. I first want to report it to Wikia as bug that the RPG game box is messing up the blog section on mobile. Jspoel Speech Jspoel.png 19:53, April 13, 2017 (UTC)

Firstly, congratulations with your new rights :). Agent c is currently working on the front page, I'd say hop in chat some time when you see him active there and have a chat with him about it. - Greets Peace'n Hugs (talk) (blog) 09:02, April 14, 2017 (UTC)

World of Warships[edit source]

Hey, I've read in chat that you are installing the game. In case you would start with a new profile, make sure you get an invite code from someone (if you don't know anyone, ask one on reddit or so). It gives you huge advantages. With some luck, you can even combine a starterscode and an invite code to get even more free goodies :). Sadly I can't give you one as I'm an EU player. - Greets Peace'n Hugs (talk) (blog) 00:10, April 15, 2017 (UTC)

Fo4 dialogue files[edit source]

It's been a point of attention since the game was released, however the problem is when you extract them from the game files, they need to be converted with a bot into table format and no one except User:Digital Utopia knows how to do that. He hasn't had time to do it, so it's been on the shelves for a long time. I've recently asked him, I may give it another go since I saw him make an edit today. Jspoel Speech Jspoel.png 16:36, April 22, 2017 (UTC)

Image desc[edit source]

Hey, I saw you tried to add an image description on the Vault-Tec rep article. I'm not sure if you already know this, but when adding a description to the first image in the infobox, you can simply add a |image desc = under the |image =. Hope this helps you in the future :) DisgustingWastelander (talk) 14:15, April 29, 2017 (UTC)

Tissue sample/Blood Sample[edit source]

You've gone to away in chat so I thought it would be better to message you. As blood samples and tissue samples are different enough to be distinguished from each other in the search box I would say the For template between the two isn't needed. However, you did get me to thinking and I do think a template on Super mutant blood sample and Viable blood sample would be good to have. I had trouble finding the Viable sample page myself so I'm going to drop a redirect page into it. Sakaratte - Talk to the cat 16:00, April 29, 2017 (UTC)

Permanent pages[edit source]

As discussed in PM: Options for permanent stay are blog and user pages. Links to fancontent can't be put as a main article, but you can for example save links to your user pages on your profile. Userpages can be made like this: http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/User:NomadMC/randompage . Just replace the "randompage" with whatever you want, and you can start editing there. I hope this helps :) - Greets Peace'n Hugs (talk) (blog) 13:07, May 5, 2017 (UTC)

Agent c is a better person to talk to about portals etc. I'm no longer very much aware of how they work exactly since some recent changes. That being said, I think some catchy word use will get you more hits via google than links on similar portals. Most people end up here via google and they are immedeatly on the page they wanted. I don't think that many people just wander around to portals etc.. If you manage to put some buzzwords in, people looking for stuff on google will see you on top. Simple example: https://www.google.be/#q=fallout+helena+hide . All are links to just "blogs". - Greets Peace'n Hugs (talk) (blog) 14:43, May 5, 2017 (UTC)
Users don't get their own categories for sandbox pages. If you'd create something you'd want considered official you can ask the admins/community, and then perhaps it could get a place under Category:Community_news. Jspoel Speech Jspoel.png 21:53, May 5, 2017 (UTC)

Audio files[edit source]

Weapon sound effects
  • Open the object by double clicking it in the object window
  • 1/3 of the way down is the "Art and Sound" tab.
  • All sounds are on the right hand side.
    • Click the button and cancel if you want to listen or just check against the article list.
    • If you accidentally remove the sound click cancel at the bottom and re-open.
  • Open the NPC (as with weapons)
  • Click Dialogue, double click the dialogue line in the far right window (The buttons at the top let you move between topics)
    • Double click the file name in the box at the bottom.

SFW - Story writing[edit source]

Hey I was so happy to see a reply! I would love to take a look at your server, shoot me an email at Dysinger15@gmail.com with all the details and what you were looking for in a story and I can start some rough drafts. SheasonFillyWiddler (talk) 14:06, June 28, 2017 (UTC)

I can't use the chat sadly, I'm at Job Corps and the computers here have locked IP's so I can't access chat. Just email me when you get the chance please.

I can set up a blog post about it and we can use that, check my profile for the blog in like 10 minutes or so SheasonFillyWiddler (talk) 15:29, June 28, 2017 (UTC)

Re: Mainpage Slider[edit source]

Hello Nomad! The code for the mainpage slider template is located here. The template can be used anywhere, I'd suggest testing it out in your sandbox. By the way, I didn't even notice that you had messaged me, because of all the current work going on I use all my three monitors, none of which had the chat open, so ping me by using JBB or Jack. If you have any further questions I'm free to help you, you know where to find me! Best regards Jackiboy Logo.png (talk) 13:29, June 29, 2017 (UTC)

Chat[edit source]

Sorry, pings aren't working in chat again it seems. Anyway, to answer your question: the problem you discribed about FO4 might be fixed by just updating your video driver (can normally be downloaded for free from the website of the producer of your video card). As for the creation kit, I think it's more lenient, but not sure. I'd say give it a try and worst case scenario is uninstall. - Greets Peace'n Hugs (talk) (blog) 14:35, July 4, 2017 (UTC)

Just a heads up[edit source]

I reverted your edit on the awareness perk back to the one by Mara because that anon user is engaged in edit warring. I sent him a warning about it, so maybe it will stop. I just didn't want you thinking I was stepping on your toes or anything my friend. StormRider71 (talk) 02:06, July 8, 2017 (UTC)

I've protected the page to stop the edit warring for now. I don't think the issue is going to go away once the protection drops though, the editor is pretty passionate about the subject. If you have an argument either way can you put it on the talk page so we can try and come to a solution? Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 13:40, July 9, 2017 (UTC)

Hildenbrand[edit source]

I typed Mayor in the search bar to see if I could find some more references. The Hildenbrand popped up and I went from there on. Jspoel Speech Jspoel.png 16:03, July 26, 2017 (UTC)

Fahrenheit[edit source]

I saw the Anon's edits earlier, I checked the Survival Guide and I didn't see any of the information in there so I didn't revert it since I saw him as correct. Out of curiosity though, is it stated somewhere that the relationships exist? Xa3MysteriousStranger.png 16:57, July 26, 2017 (UTC)

I've locked the page now and taken a look at the history, this guy was being oddly specific about what he was reverting and wasn't causing actual damage to the page. A little more could have been done to resolve this without reverting back and forth, anons like this one will actually respond to talk pages. That said I can see your rationale, reverted without reason might be vandalism. Guidelines are pretty clear on edit warring, it is where two users are reverting each other repeatedly, which happened here. In future be more mindful about assuming good faith with anons, a quick talk page message might just resolve things. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 17:45, July 26, 2017 (UTC)
I can understand, deletion without summary can appear suspect, even if it was right. If I were right and someone kept over ruling me because I hadn't left a summary then I'd be annoyed, especially as a new user with limited knowledge of how these things work. Its why assume good faith sits pretty much at the top of the guidelines. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 02:01, July 27, 2017 (UTC)

Article creation templates[edit source]

Your blog[edit source]

I removed some unwanted content from your blog comment. We don't have to promote the competition my mentioning their name. It's a sensitive subject from the split. Jspoel Speech Jspoel.png 12:47, July 29, 2017 (UTC)

Now I just noticed you mentioned the vault in your blog itself. That's really not the smart thing to do. We don't have to let others know other Fallout wikis exist. It only puts us in a self-created disavantage. Also mind your categories; the blog post category has been added twice in several of our posts. Jspoel Speech Jspoel.png 13:37, August 3, 2017 (UTC)

New Slider[edit source]

At the moment its set to rotate by days of the month, and has no content to rotate, but it does work when content is added. New Front Page Slider.

Featured articles will go way. The front page is too wordy. This would replace it. Portal:NewFrontPage is the test bed.

Chadmin has asked me to take a look at this too. Do you mind popping in chat today if you have time? Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 10:50, August 12, 2017 (UTC)
I have no objections to putting things on significant days, but first we need to establish what we have there already... and my estimation after looking at the Jan/Feb featured articles list is that we'll have a lot. Agent c (talk) 12:05, August 12, 2017 (UTC)

Okay, so I've created a list here.

What I'd like you to do is look at the significant date column. If theres something that you think should be on that date, put the name of the article (and why). Make sure the article is actually worth showcasing. A poor content page (Text only, poorly written, etc) shouldn't be included (at least or until its actually fixed up).

I'd suggest starting by examining the pages we've already got in the featured article list (I should be adding those as I go through that, but I can give you a link to where you can find em if it becomes a bottleneck).

Then when thats done we'll know how many more we need. Agent c (talk) 18:05, August 12, 2017 (UTC)

Day/Month rotation[edit source]

You ran off just as I was finishing up. This will rotate content by month and day, and it even accounts for Feb 29th too. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 12:00, August 12, 2017 (UTC)

There is physically nothing to stop any wiki text from being added to the rotation code. If you really wanted to a new page could be created separately with the {{transcludesection}} template into each date to keep the rotation code tidy. It's all down to how you want to maintain and manage it really. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 16:30, August 15, 2017 (UTC)
I see you managed to get it working now. It's nice to see it implimentated too. I think when it goes into the main slider there may be a need to break it down further to reduce cluttered code.Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 16:49, August 16, 2017 (UTC)
I thought that might happen. You should be able to get the current month switch to direct to another page, depending on month and call the day switch from there. It's more pages, but will be much cleaner from a maintenance standpoint. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 13:31, August 17, 2017 (UTC)

Memorial[edit source]

I'd love to, but first I need some clarification: is this monument in a real cemetery, or is it a digital one? How will I be added? When? Leea (talk) 12:07, August 18, 2017 (UTC)

Okay. Do I give it to you to post on this monument, or...?Leea (talk) 12:33, August 18, 2017 (UTC)

Alright. Here it is:

In the end, we all must go
Where do our souls go? No one does know

In life, my love, you were a gem, sparkle kissed
You will be truly missed

I will go on, as I always will
But, my dear, my life is missing a thrill

You were there for me, true
And brought me up when I was blue

You loved many a thing
And all the joy that they bring

You shared yourself with so many
Of your humor there was a plenty

I miss you, love, with all my heart
I cried when I learned your soul did depart

It is true, that we do not know
Where we go

But, I hope, I pray
That, in the heavens, we will meet one day

Will you sign my username when you post it? Thanks. Leea (talk) 11:54, August 19, 2017 (UTC)

The header could be "Where our souls go" I suppose. It goes along with the rest of the poem.Leea (talk) 22:06, August 19, 2017 (UTC)

Thanks. I was about to ask if I could see the finished product. =) Leea (talk) 15:55, August 20, 2017 (UTC)

FNV Places to sleep[edit source]

Howdy Nomad, just finished dinner and saw your question in chat. There are a number of bed options in New Vegas, from the various casino suites you can get by winning enough money gambling, to the faction safehouses (NCR, Legion, Followers of the Apocalypse), to incidental player housing such as Wolfhorn Ranch and Victor's shack. For a full list look here Fallout: New Vegas player character housing. As for your food issue, go hunting, most things you find in the wasteland can and will drop food upon death. Up your survival stat to get the most benefits out of what you consume. Scavenging can also lead to pre-War food. Or, of course, you could always buy it. Don't forget about the plants either, as some of the fruits will restore both water and food needs. Hope this helps.

Bots, bots bots[edit source]

What I can do is set a global query to pin all articles with the word cap where [[Bottlecap doesn't exist in the source code. It might produce some rogue entries, but it's not the end of the world if it does. Would you like me to drop the sandbox in your user pages or mine? Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 13:10, August 22, 2017 (UTC)

One list for you. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 21:46, August 22, 2017 (UTC)
I did do a bit of dip checking last night as I spotted the same thing you did. The cap i x3 l cbn that article is "captionalign" in the gallery parameters.

What I can do is re-run the list to ignore templates, but that will potentially flag even more articles as not having cap linked. Let me know what you'd like me to do and I'll take it from there. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 12:54, August 23, 2017 (UTC)

Just seen the rest of your message. Yeah I can filter it that way and see what it throws out. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 12:58, August 23, 2017 (UTC)

────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────I've condensed the list now, only 500ish articles. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 20:13, August 25, 2017 (UTC)

Sorry, didn't get your pings in chat, that bot picked up everything as far as I am aware. Cap gets used across all games, but I can do it again if it will help. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 14:42, August 26, 2017 (UTC)

Wikia's forced addition of videoes to the wiki[edit source]

Hello, This is a message to all listed active members of the leadership team, so please accept my apologies if this seems a little impersonal.

As you may be aware, Wikia/Fandom have added a number of videos to pages on the wiki that they have self authored. Although the consensus view so far seems to be that these are not to our standards, I encourage you to view these for yourself and make up your own mind.

You can find a link to all the videos, and a petition I would like you to consider here. If you believe that these videos do not meet our standards, detract from the wiki, and should be removed, I encourage you to vote yes on this petition. You are of course welcome to vote no if you do not believe this is the case.

Thank you for your consideration. Agent c (talk) 21:03, September 7, 2017 (UTC)

Video Negotiated Settlement[edit source]

Thank you very much for your vote on the petition. We have had talks with Wikia/Fandom, and a settlement has been proposed. I encourage you to review it and have your say here. Agent c (talk) 20:34, September 8, 2017 (UTC)

Video Forums[edit source]

Thank you for participating in the video forums so far.

In order to work out where to go from here, I've created another forum asking the community where our "Red line" is, and whether or not I should continue to be the point person on this.

You can find the new forum here. I look forward to seeing your thoughts on this matter. Agent c (talk) 16:16, September 10, 2017 (UTC) Hello, this is just a quick message to let you know a fourth question has been added based on the current feedback, especially from those who voted for removing the videos. All Hands Meeting[edit source]

Okay, I think its clear that going ahead with a meeting is a good idea. At this stage I would like to open the floor to agenda items. We have the following things to discuss.

  • An update on any negotiations, and other actions
  • Possible action to progress our case further whilst staying on network
  • Possible engagement with Wikia on video in line with the proposed deal- if we should participate and whom that contact person should be.
  • Possible alternatives if the situation cannot be resolved.

Please let me know if you want anything added to the agenda here

I'll be asking a number of people to speak on certain issues, but as always there will be plenty of room for discussion.

I propose that the meeting be held at 3pm North American Eastern Time on Sunday 24 September, this should be 8pm in London, 9pm Central European time, and Midday North American Western. If there are any objections please note them below and we'll look into alternative scheduling, the more objections the harder we look for a new time.

We have arranged facilities for the meeting, it will be held online. It is open to all persons who have participated in any of the video discussion threads up to today, except those employed by Fandom/Wikia inc (as this is the Community's meeting), or have been employed by them in the recent past.

Votes taken in this meeting will be taken as consensus view of the wiki, so everyone is encouraged to attend.

We have setup a discord server (Nukapedia's Fallout Shelter) located here. It is mobile friendly (via an app) and is very flexible.

Although everyone is welcome in our social space (The-Common-Room), only persons who meet the above criteria will be admitted to The-Town-Hall (where the meeting will be located). You may be asked to verify your account before this access is granted. Agent c (talk) 21:53, September 11, 2017 (UTC)

Cleansing the Commonwealth[edit source]

Quartermastery and Ghoul Problem also have dozens of locations too, so my first thought on this is why would Cleansing the Commonwealth be the one that shouldn't stand? Imo, having the quest listed there is useful; readers know that this is a possible location for the radiant quest and may want to go read up a little on it on the quest article.

Fallout 4 is the first foray for Fallout into the radiant world, we have to bear in mind some of our guidelines aren't going to let the radiants check the boxes all other quests would check. I'd rather them be a little over-covered than direly under-covered. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 16:47, September 27, 2017 (UTC)

Puzzling about Paragraphs[edit source]

I'm not saying "yes," but what exactly are you talking about here? What would I be writing about? I'm also assuming that there would be some sort of time limit to when I would be writing these paragraphs.Leea (talk) 22:13, October 20, 2017 (UTC)

Useless Information[edit source]

Not trying to be nosy or anything, but if Leea doesn't want to mess with the new project or doesn't have time to, I will help out. My brain is a warehouse for useless information, obscure "how it got started / where it came from" stories, and other tidbits and factoids of varying interest. StormRider71 (talk) 00:32, October 21, 2017 (UTC)

Weekly round up[edit source]

I'd like to keep the Sunday one as a nice serious community round up, with a nice light opener. Ideally I'd like a post every day, but I know this is unfeasible, so if we could get it to something close to every other day, that would be nice.

I'll link them all in at the bottom of the Sunday round up as other goings off in the week, would be a nice way of saying "we are always here, not just for the articles, join in". Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 00:57, October 21, 2017 (UTC)

Poll Stuff[edit source]

I was just doing your poll and you had a question that made something else pop in my mind. I'll post most of this same on Leea's talk page as well, and y'all can decide who wants to poll it or if it is worth the trouble. Myself, I thought it was pretty good and if you use it, you can frame it up however you like.

So, here it is. The same creatures appear in just about every Fallout game...Yao Guai, Radscorpions, Deathclaws, etc. What the hell are mutated scorpions doing in DC and the Commonwealth? That's not their native habitat. Whatever happened to other creatures like hawks, eagles, mountain lions, elk, coyotes, snakes, ticks, foxes, bobcats, etc? StormRider71 (talk) 15:41, October 21, 2017 (UTC)

Last Man Standing usage[edit source]

Hey Nomad, I also lack the skill to make the gun into a mod, I've been debating asking around on the discussions page to see if anyone talented enough would put it in the game, like in a short quest involving finding it.

Honestly I didn't think anyone would want to use my concept for anything, so if you really want to use it I wouldn't say no to the idea. The only condition I have, aside from mentioning me which is really cool on your part, would be to show me a picture or video of the finished design.

So Yes, you can use my concept gun for your NMC Fallout: Dallas Minecraft server. Rebel427 ~ I'll be your huckleberry 02:17, October 24, 2017 (UTC)

Ya, no problem. I don't expect it to look like an exact copy, I'm sure someone could do way better with photoshop than me as well. Rebel427 ~ I'll be your huckleberry 20:30, October 25, 2017 (UTC)
I took the picture from the already existing one from the .45 Auto pistol page and just recolored and did a little bit of re-texturing. It's basically just a .45 auto with all of the mods painted black. Hopefully the ingame assets for Fallout New Vegas would provide a better all around picture of it. But I look forward to seeing it, I understand that it will take a while, so no rush. Rebel427 ~ I'll be your huckleberry 02:15, October 27, 2017 (UTC)

Related achievements[edit source]

I struggle to see how it would myself. Do you mean back and forth between Achievements in their sequential order of receipt in the achievements pages infobox or an article section?

The former might be a workable idea, but the latter may mean more pages (NV quests and achievements are largely blended, same for 4). Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 11:52, October 30, 2017 (UTC)

Nukapedia and Fandom/Wikia talks[edit source]

Apologies for the impersonal nature of this message, as I'm relaying the same thing to admins and people who have previously expressed a view on featured video. Forgive me if I tell you some things you already know.

We have a call scheduled with Wikia this Friday. We need your input - and the input from as many others as possible. We're hoping to settle once and for all what our relationship is, if it can be salvaged, and what the future should be, as until we settle these featured video can't be settled.

Please, have a look at this forum and tell us what you think.

In addition to looking at our own future hosting option, we've also been in talks with other hosts. Included in these is Gamepedia/Curse. We have an ongoing dialogue with them, and if you have any questions about a possible unification to the vault, please do let me know and I'll relay any similar response we've had, and if your question is a first, I'll ask the question.

Thanks again. Remember, War never changes. Agent c (talk) 21:05, July 2, 2018 (UTC)

Alien Debate[edit source]

For some context you may want to take a look at this page and this page. To briefly summarize, there's a minor encounter wherein an alien ship crashes in the Commonwealth. The player can investigate the crash site, find the ship, and the nearby cave where the alien occupant has run. Painting with the broadest of strokes, one side says that combat with the alien is wrong due to the circumstances at hand. The other side says that due to the circumstances at hand, there is nothing immoral about engaging in combat with the alien.

For what I had in mind, there would be a very dry introduction that explains the events with little editorializing of the events so that neither side can complain the introduction led readers to lean into one conclusion over another. Provide the same page links I added here, plus a link to the original discussion page for people who may be interested enough to see what arguments have already taken place. On the polls side of things, the questions would be equally simple, offering only a few options pertinent to the debate to help reign people in to contributing to the debate, even if only as a number on a graph rather than a thoughtful post.

Given the giant walls of text on the discussion, there may only be a few people who actually care enough to read through. To compensate for that, let the participants of the discussion present a summary of their arguments thus far as the first comments; keeping the participants thoughts out of the headlining section so that no one looks like their argument is a statement of fact. If you want, you may want to request a (generous) character or word limit on these opening comments so that everyone is not immediately TL;DR'd. And if so, it might be best to drop that number in the discussion as well so that everyone has a chance to see it.

I have not written anything for the headlining section or specific poll questions, at least not yet, because I wanted to hear your feedback. Plus, you may want to add your own flair in there somewhere to compensate for all the "just the facts" talk I've suggested. Play the role of a fight promoter or something, idk. Whatever sound fun to you. Beyond that maybe have Saka say a word or two about the importance or fun of thoughtful debate in the community since it was his suggestion. How's that sound?

The Dyre Wolf (talk) 23:34, August 5, 2018 (UTC)

Just checking back in, I’m not sure if you had anything worked out for the polls, but this is what I in mind for at least part of the opening section:
The Scenario Introduction
Under the Discussions section, there was recently a lengthy debate over an otherwise unassuming encounter in Fallout 4. Once the Sole Survivor reaches level 20, a random encounter can be triggered where a UFO can be observed crashing in the Commonwealth. Investigate the crash site, and the Sole Survivor can find a hostile alien inside. What originally began as a question asking why the aliens have not invaded the earth yet, evolved into a discussion into the ethics of the encounter in F4. Readers are encouraged to visit the original discussion if you are interested in the full extent of the arguments thus far, but some of the primary participants will be providing a summarized version of their arguments below.
The Polls
Like you suggested, reiterating the original question from the OP since it kind of got lost as the discussion moved on.
“Why haven't the aliens invade earth yet?”
  • They have no interest in an invasion
  • They Lone Wanderer scared them away
  • …other answer you might have the creativity to come up with that I do not
  • Comment
“Is it moral for the alien to attack the Sole Survivor?”
  • Yes
  • No

“Is it moral for the Sole Survivor to attack the alien?”

  • Yes
  • No
Beyond that, I’m not sure what else you might like to add. I wanted to have Saka say a little something since it was sorta his idea, but given his recent departure, I’m not sure if you would want to mention it or if that would be a sore subject. I’m not privy to the ongoing of the internal politics, and I only found out when reading Agent c’s newest update to the exodus saga. Thanks, The Dyre Wolf (talk) 00:27, August 10, 2018 (UTC)

Polls[edit source]

I'm still on the fence big time about buying Fallout 76. PSN has it on sale right now for $40.17 which is a really good deal compared to 60 bucks, but I've heard people say that it sucks ass while others have deemed it the best game ever. So here's a question for the polls and feel free to frame it however you want.

1. Fallout 76 has been released for almost a month counting the beta testing. In your honest opinion, did Bethesda:

  • Totally blew it
  • Unprecedented success
  • About average
  • Didn't blow it, but could be way better

2. Why do you feel this way (pros & cons) Comment!

3. Would you:

  • Highly recommend
  • It's worth buying if you catch it on sale
  • Get it only if you're bored to death with all your other games
  • Don't piss away your money!

For more information, please see the discussion itself. The post is a little lengthy, but if you are truly interested in making an informed decision, I would recommend reading through it.

Because this discussion may or may not affect how you voted initially or your rationale at the time, please review your post so that it reflects your current beliefs accurately.

FO76 Player Character Vote[edit source]

Hi there! After chatting with you in the Discord earlier today, I was very impressed with your desire to get to the truth. To that end, I wanted to pose a thought to you. Your comment on the vote was that the Community Manager didn't have the authority to override the existing designation, and you wanted someone who has worked on the game. This CM actually is in the credits of the game because she has worked on it. She communicates directly with all of the Fallout 76 programmers daily and works at Bethesda HQ. Beyond that, she didn't simply provide confirmation in a vacuum: Bethesda has consistently used "Vault Dweller" in all official communications and marketing since Todd Howard and Pete Hines took the stage at E3 2018 to announce the launch of Fallout 76. The CM was simply re-affirming something that was approved by the highest authorities from the very start. The current player character name for the wiki, "Resident," in contrast, has never been used by Bethesda. It has no authority in and of itself. As soon as the player characters leave the vault, they are locked out forever and can never see the terminal that use "Resident." The player characters themselves refer to themselves as "Vault Dwellers," and "Vault Dwellers" is the most common and universal designation that NPCs use to refer to the player character. Heck, Bethesda even has a protagonist line of collectibles that specifically use "Sole Survivor," "Lone Wanderer" and (for Fallout 76) "Vault Dweller." Food for thought! Nice talking to you today, hope to see you around soon! :) --Intrepid359 (talk) 23:26, October 23, 2020 (UTC)
