I really appreciated the reminder you recently threw up in the fora, and I figured I might suggest another topic for you to tackle. I have been noticing, for quite some time, that a few of our editors are taking a bad-faith doctrine towards edits they see in the 'Recent Changes'. A user will add a note into an article, without a source, and instead of good faith being applied towards their effort, and having their claim either investigated or slapped with a <nowiki>{{Verify}}</nowiki> tag, they are being immediately reverted without a secondary thought ever being given.

  +
Having edits reverted zealously, in disregard of our good faith rules, is pretty discouraging for any user - especially when reverts are not supplemented with an attempt for discussion, or a proper edit summary. I think your topic and possibly this one, can be really helpful, as I get the feeling that the rules are becoming more important than our users.

== Fallout Shelter characters ==

  +
Hi KingClyde,

  +
I have a few questions about the Fallout Shelter characters page.

== Revision undone ==
+
1: Why did you delete my (see bugs) note? I've seen it used on a number of Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas pages. I put it there so a thousand other helpful Android users won't "correct" Abraham Washington's outfit like I did. Looking at the history, I wasn't the first. I figure a note is easier than fixing it again and again.

Hey Kingclyde, why did you undo my edit at the Dunwich Building page? I thought i made a fairly good point on the discussion page as to why i removed the Cthulhu/Statue part. --[[Special:Contributions/85.225.197.28|85.225.197.28]] 19:06, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
+
Yes, people should check the whole page, but if a player doesn't think he's experiencing a bug, he may not read the bug section. Honestly, when I made the initial change. I thought I was correcting a "helpful" editor who had put in what it looked like, in absence of a name given for the outfit in the game. That was my bad, but I doubt I will be the last.
: I didn't even notice the discussion page thingy. I read it and undid my undo. We may need to move the whole thing to discussion because it is speculation. There really is no firm evidence to my knowledge.--[[User:Kingclyde|Kingclyde]] 19:10, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, i guess it's pretty much up to the observer. Still, a name like Alhazred can't be a reference to much else. --[[Special:Contributions/85.225.197.28|85.225.197.28]] 19:30, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

  +
One option I had considered was a dual listing, showing:
  +
*iOS: Professor outfit
  +
*Android: (see bugs)

  +
2: Why is Scribe Rothchild the only one who loses his title and is instead listed by his FO3 given name? At least six others should also be, if this is a rule. And the alphabetization needs to be fixed too, as Reginald comes before Sarah. But, by that note, shouldn't they be alphabetized by their last names? Perhaps even put in last, first order: e.g. Rothchild, Reginald?

== Locations ==
+
Personally, I think this page should use the Fallout Shelter in-game display names and alphabetize them as given. First, it's because that is what the players of this game will be looking for. Nowhere in Fallout Shelter is Rothchild's first name given, so players of only this game have no way of knowing it. Second, this wiki does use other name formats when it makes sense. Check out the [[Brotherhood of Steel (Capital Wasteland)]] page; under notable members it lists Elder Lyons and Head Scribe Rothchild, not Owen Lyons and Reginald Rothchild. Because it makes sense to do so in that context, just as it does here.

Why are item locations being moved to discussion pages? It doesn't really seem to have much of a point to me. I'm for moving them back to articles - I haven't been active in FO3 articles, but that's where I put them in FO1 and 2 weapons, armors, etc. [[User:Ausir|Ausir]] 03:48, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
+
Insisting that the FO3 given names be used on a FOS page feels needlessly pedantic to me. And it feels a bit superior too, like you're laughing at FOS players for not already knowing the FO3 canon. FOS is about Bethesda encouraging and exciting future FO4 players, not rewarding FO3 players for their knowledge of minutia.
: I remember asking you about this awhile ago. I think it is redundant and really clutters up a page with locations of stuff like cherry bombs, laser rifles, leaf blowers and abraxo soap. By moving it to the discussion page and leaving a link to the discussion page, it helps the keep the main article tidy. If you notice, when someone adds locations they tend to do it without concern for format or duplication. It's up to you though, you're in charge. It just gives me a lot of work to do. And a headache.:)--[[User:Kingclyde|Kingclyde]] 03:52, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

::Unlike strategies, which are mostly just opinions/original research, locations are factual info that should IMHO be kept in the articles themselves. [[User:Ausir|Ausir]] 03:54, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

:::Ok, but I'm not going to keep up on stuff like the abraxo cleaner with 50+ locations. It's clutter. I'm an editor and I like format and tidyness, so that is the kind of stuff I look after.--[[User:Kingclyde|Kingclyde]] 03:56, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

::::For weapon components, I think it's good to mention at least some early game locations of the items. And users adding stuff "without concern for format or duplication" could by the same reasoning mean we should move all article content to talk pages. :)[[User:Ausir|Ausir]] 03:59, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

:::::Very true:)--[[User:Kingclyde|Kingclyde]] 04:03, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

Oh, just so you know, I am a long-time FO3 player with hundreds of hours played. So I am not just some noob who "just doesn't care about all that old Fallout crap." I'm speaking as someone who wants players who start with FOS to feel comfortable here. Let them see "Scribe Rothchild" is a link; they may click on it and learn more about the rich history of the character beyond just being a legendary dweller.

Heya :) Just stopping by to see if you have any thoughts on the [[Forum:Upgrading_Infoboxes_-_Active_Development#Discussion|Portable infobox project]] that [[User:Shining-Armor|Shining-Armor]] started up a little while ago. Because of Fallout's obvious importance to Wikia, particularly as we approach the launch of ''Fallout 4'', we'd like to make sure that all your infoboxes are as accessible by mobile devices as is possible. And apart from that, there has been uncertainty in chat as to how we would get to use these. ==Page width==
  +
I was thinking about changing the width of the content space to the old value again (wider), wiki wide. I have had the old width running in my personal wikia.css for the past few months; yesterday and today I tried the standard width again, because of a request from Energy X to a change of side banner. Experimenting with that, I still don't like the small space and the big fonts. What do you think of it? I first wanted to ask the bcs/admins, later we can ask Wikia (if everyone's ok with it), because I'm not sure they would allow a change to something they implemented wikiawide. : I'm not that far in the game, but from what I hear probably best to list the generators for spawn locations and I'd list the fixed fusion core locations as well, and a few vendors or for a quest reward. The fusion core is a special type of ammo and people are interested in where to find them. You can see it in the number of location additions by users. We should put them in a table, first colum location, second column specifics where to find them. That makes it better to read. I noticed that u deleted one video of mine from Perforator page. And u say that there is no need for demonstration video. AND that my video had incorrect title. <br>
+
== T-51 Texture ==
Now Im just little confused here. First Im begged (including wiki admins here) to make videos for all weapons, quests, unique items and so on and now u alone decide that there is no need for video for Perforator. First of all, I have talked with Ash (I still miss her) and Ausir that making videos for all kind of different items that are popular among all players is, well if not essential, at least needed, to get this wiki to serve its audience better. If I was looking for a video for Perforator (maybe just for entertainment who knows) as a normal user and couldnt find it like all other unique weapons, I wouldnt be very pleased. But then again, thats just me.

<br>

<br>

In my humble opinion videos for all things and stuff are pretty important for making this wiki even better. But now I would like to hear ur opinion on this matter. <br>And I would love to know what u meant with "incorrect title"? <small>[[Image:Youtube1smaller.jpeg]] [[User:CryonBrion|CryonBrion]] ([[User talk:CryonBrion|Talk]])</small> 23:28, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

:Videos on how to obtain the weapons or their special abilities are fine by me in my opinion, but a video of someone just shooting the xuaglong is kind of a given. Videos on how the firelance sets stuff on fire or whatnot is cool. If a video shows how to get the weapon I leave it in no problem. The one with the incorrect title, I can't remember for sure which one it was but I think it was either the wrong weapon or it said obtaining weapon "x" and all it showed was firing it at a few objects. The only other reason I remove videos is if there are multiple of the same videos on the same page, which I still encounter every once and awhile. If you can point out which one I labeled as incorrect, I'll look at it. With me being sick all this past week, my mind is finally starting to clear. Thanks.--[[User:Kingclyde|Kingclyde]] 20:40, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

:: Hi ! Yes, I understand what u mean about the relevance of videos for some items. The video that I was talking about is Perforator. My videos are used for all unique weapons, unique apparel, bobbleheads, main quests, most side quests, add-ons and much more, since I have agreed to the request of Ash some half year ago to make videos for every important item, quest and other stuff. And this is why I took interest toward ur actions. I would appreciate that at least my videos will stay on the pages, since I count myself as a some kind of an unofficial video provider for this wiki. I understand the reason for u to remove the Perforator video, but since people (my over 10,000 subscribers and friends in YouTube) have requested videos for everything, including here, I think its better to have a video for Perforator even if its not so essential. People still expect videos for at least all unique items, quests, add-ons and so on. And I doubt that anyone will make better videos (the sense of arrogance XD), so it would be great if my videos could stay on the pages. But then again, I have no authority here. Im merely a user and a fan of this wiki, but since I have worked my ass off for 8 months now for my videos, I would really greatly value it if my videos can stay in here. Im just trying to help make this wiki even better =) <small>[[Image:Youtube1smaller.jpeg]] [[User:CryonBrion|CryonBrion]] ([[User talk:CryonBrion|Talk]])</small> 04:12, 6 July 2009 (UTC)

::Saying "it's on the talk page" doesn't look good to me. If anything, it would be better to say that it's described in more detail in the [[Knock Knock]] article. Or maybe just link them to the appropriate bugs articles? I'm generally against any article saying that "such and such are described on the talk page". :::::Frankly, I don't know what to do anymore. Things change and from an editors point of view, somethings can end up looking like crap, honestly. I'll just deal with vandals and minor stuff such as grammar and blocking morons who vandalize. You guys can deal with formatting, templates etc. I have made my recommendations and I felt my edits were proper. If I were to go to an article and find a general glitch article, fine I'll agree with you there. But what I don't like to see is these long winded step by step instructions on how to exploit glitches. In my opinion it's the same as cheating. And I thought we didn't add cheats to articles. Maybe it's because I'm an old school gamer who thinks cheats are for wussies but that's just me. Anyways that my two cents. ::::::I don't see what's wrong with adding cheats for a single-player game to articles. If you want to know about the merge progress, halfway August asked me on my talkpage about joining forces. The end of August it progressed with my blog, [[User_blog:Jspoelstra/Discussion_merge_Nukapedia_/_The_Vault]], most positive responses and we went ahead with a vote end of September, [[Forum:Nukapedia The Vault merge formal vote]]. Soon people started complaining we didn't have a proper discussion yet, and the vote was paused to have that on [[Forum:Discussion merge Nukapedia / The Vault]]. Came out after discussion that we needed guidelines to merging, which were formed here: [[Forum:Discussion_merge_Nukapedia_/_The_Vault#Proposal_merge_guidelines]]. We left it for a week to be commented on, then it was placed here: [[Fallout_Wiki:Fallout_76_Wiki_Merger#Merge guidelines]]. About a week ago the vote was restarted and now we are here; the vote was closed yesterday. Addendum Edit

I really appreciated the reminder you recently threw up in the fora, and I figured I might suggest another topic for you to tackle. I have been noticing, for quite some time, that a few of our editors are taking a bad-faith doctrine towards edits they see in the 'Recent Changes'. A user will add a note into an article, without a source, and instead of good faith being applied towards their effort, and having their claim either investigated or slapped with a {{Verify}} tag, they are being immediately reverted without a secondary thought ever being given.

Some food for thought. User:Sarkhan the Sojourner 17:02, September 1, 2015 (UTC)

Fallout Shelter characters Edit

Hi KingClyde,

I have a few questions about the Fallout Shelter characters page.

One option I had considered was a dual listing, showing:

  • iOS: Professor outfit
  • Android: (see bugs)

2: Why is Scribe Rothchild the only one who loses his title and is instead listed by his FO3 given name? At least six others should also be, if this is a rule. And the alphabetization needs to be fixed too, as Reginald comes before Sarah. But, by that note, shouldn't they be alphabetized by their last names? Perhaps even put in last, first order: e.g. Rothchild, Reginald?

Personally, I think this page should use the Fallout Shelter in-game display names and alphabetize them as given. First, it's because that is what the players of this game will be looking for. Nowhere in Fallout Shelter is Rothchild's first name given, so players of only this game have no way of knowing it. Second, this wiki does use other name formats when it makes sense. Check out the Brotherhood of Steel (Capital Wasteland) page; under notable members it lists Elder Lyons and Head Scribe Rothchild, not Owen Lyons and Reginald Rothchild. Because it makes sense to do so in that context, just as it does here.

Thank you,
Soukey--Soukey (talk) 15:30, September 26, 2015 (UTC)

Portable infoboxes Edit

Heya :) Just stopping by to see if you have any thoughts on the Portable infobox project that Shining-Armor started up a little while ago. Because of Fallout's obvious importance to Wikia, particularly as we approach the launch of Fallout 4, we'd like to make sure that all your infoboxes are as accessible by mobile devices as is possible. Please drop by the forum as soon as you can and give your views. And of course my user talk page is always open to whatever comments — even rude ones — that you'd like to make!

New infoboxesEdit

Hey, TOR has been helping us out to make our infoboxes compatible with mobile stuff, but so far, his work didn't get that much feedback. Would you be so kind to pay the forum a visit and leave some feedback. And apart from that, there has been uncertainty in chat as to how we would get to use these. Would we need a vote before we can use them, or can it just be done by a decision from the sysops? - Greets Peace'n Hugs (talk) (blog) 21:33, October 26, 2015 (UTC)

Oh, do you mean the melee bobblehead I did? I saw the perception bobblehead page used the as FO3's (http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Bobblehead_-_Perception) and I didn't know if I should have made a new page or not.

Page widthEdit

I was thinking about changing the width of the content space to the old value again (wider), wiki wide. I have had the old width running in my personal wikia.css for the past few months; yesterday and today I tried the standard width again, because of a request from Energy X to a change of side banner. Experimenting with that, I still don't like the small space and the big fonts. What do you think of it? I first wanted to ask the bcs/admins, later we can ask Wikia (if everyone's ok with it), because I'm not sure they would allow a change to something they implemented wikiawide. InfoboxesEdit

What do you think about the infobox replacement Wikia wants to go ahead with, Clyde? (Sent you an e-mail about it) Jspoel Speech Jspoel 07:50, November 19, 2015 (UTC)

I'm not that far in the game, but from what I hear probably best to list the generators for spawn locations and I'd list the fixed fusion core locations as well, and a few vendors or for a quest reward. The fusion core is a special type of ammo and people are interested in where to find them. You can see it in the number of location additions by users. We should put them in a table, first colum location, second column specifics where to find them. That makes it better to read. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 21:14, November 19, 2015 (UTC)

Happy new year!Edit

I would like to use the Christmas/New Year-wishes-tradition, though I'm a week late, to thank those around me who kept this wiki and daily life more fun for me during the past year. Everything just seems so normal and evident that we are here almost every day, yet it's very worthwhile to consider for a moment how wonderful it is to have people like you around me, making editing and being on chat a lot more enjoyable. I would also like to use this opportunity to wish a happy and healthy new year for you and everyone around you who is dear to you. Herbert Dashwood & The Replicated ManEdit

It says on Herbert page, in the interaction section, that "Herbert Dashwood is in possession of a Replicated Man holotape". I was only harmonizing the infobox with the interaction box, which already contained the info about the Replicated Man quest. --YoDsanklai (talk, blogs) 11:48, January 8, 2016 (UTC)

Scrounger and fusion cores Edit

How did you test that the Scrounger perk affects the number of fusion cores in ammo boxes? I can't see that in the game data. Version 1.4 did add several energy ammo types to the scrounger lists (including fusion cells), but not fusion cores. --Alfwyn (talk) 17:46, March 1, 2016 (UTC)

No, there is no official editor yet (announced for April), but there is FO4edit and I'm doing a dump of my own to search through the data - the format is very similar to Skyrim. --Alfwyn (talk) 22:00, March 2, 2016 (UTC)

Robo Cop Edit

Instead of replacing accurate information with incorrect information and doing six individual section edits for no reason, maybe just edit correctly and not take the lazy way out eh? Paladin117>>iff bored; 05:13, March 18, 2016 (UTC)

And come to think of it, when you see an edit that requires fixing that someone took time at and it isn't 100% vandalism, completely rewriting it and filling it with inaccurate information does two things: 1)may make new or fresh editors become discouraged from editing and 2)it takes time and skill to look information up (adding inaccurate information does not). I'm not trying to scold you or anything because I know you don't give a crap about what I say, I'm just trying to say slow down and look at the data integrity. The new entry was horrible. Paladin117>>iff bored; 05:13, March 18, 2016 (UTC)

Regarding my editingEdit

I was an immigrant from Elder Scrolls wiki and was expert of console command, this led to my editing style.

As for Minigun, it was my mistake, it said it requires certain amount of strength to be wielded when I was in Concord, yet I forgot the exact number and assumed it was 8 when I was in low level.

Sorry for your inconvenience. Mhazard (talk) 08:40, April 8, 2016 (UTC)

Checkuser Edit

Anon defaced an article page, immediately reverted by another user named KockaAdmiralac who only have one edit in close enough succession makes me had a hunch they may belong to the same IP. This user is probably vandalizing as an anon to boost edit counts for themselves. Just to clarify although it may be just really new to wikia. Ta --吉野Cassie Talk to me! ✿ 07:29, April 15, 2016 (UTC)

T-51 Texture Edit

Look, I don't want to edit war about this, but the image is clearly not correct, and if it is then it's in terrible lighting with some weird color settings. This is the best counter-argument I can give aside from taking a bunch of screenshots right now and uploading them. The rusty olive paint is the default for the torso - Military paint makes it slightly greener, removes the rust, and adds an Army logo. The grey coloration, to my knowledge, does not appear in the game at all.--76.218.116.75 21:19, April 19, 2016 (UTC)

I have raised a forum to discuss adding the option of soft blocks as an alternative to hard blocks and extend the admin toolset for more flexibity in handling minor breaks in rules and guidelines. Can you read through the forum and give your input. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 20:43, August 7, 2017 (UTC)

Wikia's forced addition of videos to the wikiEdit

Hello, I realise you may not have edited the wiki, or even visited us in a while. We do miss you, and I apologise for contacting you with a request for help… but we do need it, and there’s not much you need to do to help us.

As you may be aware, Wikia/Fandom have added a number of videos to pages on the wiki that they have self authored. Although the consensus view so far seems to be that these are not to our standards, I encourage you to view these for yourself and make up your own mind.

You can find a link to all the videos, and a petition I would like you to consider here. If you believe that these videos do not meet our standards, detract from the wiki, and should be removed, I encourage you to vote yes on this petition. You are of course welcome to vote no if you do not believe this is the case.

Thank you for your consideration. Agent c (talk) 21:21, September 7, 2017 (UTC)

Returned?Edit

Hey Clyde, good to see your name appear in recent changes again. How you've been? Jspoel Speech Jspoel 21:57, October 14, 2018 (UTC)

I've been good. Just doing some work here and there while out on disability. Sucks sitting on my ass not working.--Kingclyde (talk) 22:02, October 14, 2018 (UTC)

I saw that. Nice to see you editing. Richie9999 (talk) 22:18, October 14, 2018 (UTC)

DiscussionEdit

Shoot me a message over Discord. We've been discussing and practicing it over the past... Two months, I think? Personal_Sig_Image.gif Tagaziel (call!) 07:43, November 2, 2019 (UTC)

MergeEdit

If you want to know about the merge progress, halfway August asked me on my talkpage about joining forces. The end of August it progressed with my blog, User_blog:Jspoelstra/Discussion_merge_Nukapedia_/_The_Vault, most positive responses and we went ahead with a vote end of September, Forum:Nukapedia The Vault merge formal vote. Soon people started complaining we didn't have a proper discussion yet, and the vote was paused to have that on Forum:Discussion merge Nukapedia / The Vault. Came out after discussion that we needed guidelines to merging, which were formed here: Forum:Discussion_merge_Nukapedia_/_The_Vault#Proposal_merge_guidelines. We left it for a week to be commented on, then it was placed here: Fallout_Wiki:Fallout_76_Wiki_Merger#Merge guidelines. About a week ago the vote was restarted and now we are here; the vote was closed yesterday. I suggest you create an account in Discord, I make you a friend there so you can enter our Bureaucrat group, and we can decide the result. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 16:22, November 2, 2019 (UTC)

I don't see you yet in Discord, I hope you get it done by tomorrow. But if you have trouble setting up an account, send me your thoughts on the merge vote/result by e-mail.Jspoel Speech Jspoel 21:19, November 2, 2019 (UTC)
Jspoel#8359. I'm in there now. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 22:42, November 2, 2019 (UTC)
It's all in control. We still have a few users working on merging articles, mostly The Vault users, some from Nukapedia, but they're a few articles a day at most so all good to keep up with. As you can see we still have very good activity with a some promising new users like Kdarrow (check her blogs if you can), DankalorYT and some others. More good things to come with three new updates on the way. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 17:35, July 4, 2020 (UTC)
