Making templates for another wiki Edit

Well, the only pages I could point you to is [[Help:Template]] and its equivalent at Wikimedia's Meta-Wiki. Other than that I don't know any. -- Porter21 (talk) 08:41, March 15, 2010 (UTC)

Small guns pathEdit

Big Trouble in Big Town - You can help the residents prepare for the mutant onslaught by training them in different skills depending on your own skills and the dialogue you choose. Might have been poorly explained on the NPC pages, but that's what they meant. Cheers.--Gothemasticator 18:06, March 17, 2010 (UTC)

Welcome? Edit

How can I get myself a 'welcome' template, like the one Nukey has used on Revolverman's talk page?--Vault4 20:59, March 17, 2010 (UTC)

Nukey's messageEdit

Haha. I guess I never actually read the thing. Thanks for the heads up. I have left him an informative message on his talk page.--Gothemasticator 05:04, March 18, 2010 (UTC)

Bittercup Edit

Ongoing forum discussions of noteEdit

Hi! If you haven't already, please drop by the Forum:Wiki general discussion boards and join in some of the current discussions. At issue are questions of admin maintenance responsibilities, a new way of handling bug submissions, and table formatting, among others. I lool forward to continuing to work with you, especially as the coming release of Fallout: New Vegas brings us more content to create and organize. Cheers.--Gothemasticator 04:07, March 21, 2010 (UTC)

It's all geek to me!Edit

Ironic that you posted your question at the very moment my own ignorance with templates is being shown handily by Ph03n1x. I tell you, never mess with a guy with a 1337 name like that :) . (Actually, he might be a good guy to ask.)

I myself am only actually knowledgable in hardware, troubleshooting and operating systems. Coding, scripting, etc., is all new to me. Wikitext was brand new to me a few months ago. My strengths mainly lie in people skills.

If you do find some help, tell me about it, so I can follow you around and learn something! Cheers.--Gothemasticator 06:11, March 22, 2010 (UTC)

The only other thing I guess I can add is that the only way I learn any of this kind of stuff is by copying chunks of code into Notepad and then chunks from a variant of that code (like, say, from two slightly different tables) and looking for differences until I start to understand.--Gothemasticator 06:29, March 22, 2010 (UTC)
Here's a page that might help.--Gothemasticator 19:03, March 22, 2010 (UTC)

Sugar Bombs Edit

May I just ask, and I know you've made like 6,000 edits to this site, but why did you remove my edit to the Sugar Bombs page? Apprently cos it was 'redundant'? I'm not annoyed, I just wanna know to be honest :P. I'm kinda new to this thing but I wanna contribute loads more to it cos I love Fallout :P. Can I also ask, on my watchlist, I get a green number with a plus sign, or a red number with a minus sign for every edit I make, I kinda figured that means that they were good or bad, but what do the numbers represent?

Write back

If you look on the tables on the same page, it is listed in My Megaton Hose and My Tenpenny Suite with the amount that comes with each theme. --Kingclyde 21:11, March 27, 2010 (UTC)
Green numbers with a plus means you added information, so if you added the word "Fallout", you would get a green +7. The opposite happens if you remove information. If you removed "Fallout" from an article, it will show a red -7. Red with a minus indicates removal of information. --Kingclyde 21:22, March 27, 2010 (UTC)

Ahh! Cheers, btw I've done it tons before, but I'm having trouble activating Trouble On The Homefront, I've completed the Waters Of Life but when I fast-travel to Megaton (Ruins, I blew it up, does that make a difference?), but I still don't get the signal. Any idea what that could be?

Thanks Edit

Ok, cool fair enough :P could you answer my other question though? What do the green and red numbers mean on the watchlist?

hey is there anything which i can help with i have been looking and looking around but i cant find much to do.

Charon's Shotgun Edit

I think there would perhaps be better on individual pages, but I'm not sure. Perhaps Porter would be a better person to ask, since he's more of an expert on FO3 items than I am. Ausir(talk) 18:18, April 2, 2010 (UTC)

I already posted it under the notes section on the page. There's not much that the page could do that the column can't in a more condensed space. Nitty Tok. 23:29, April 2, 2010 (UTC)
Sounds good. We should add thos to the "Variants" part of the articles as we have the Terrible Shotgun etc. --Kingclyde 23:30, April 2, 2010 (UTC)
Sure, that sounds good. Thanks. Nitty Tok. 23:50, April 2, 2010 (UTC)

Vandalism Edit had a spout of vandalism against the Allistair Tenpenny Page. It seemed blatant and after my original undo became rather bitter and proceeded to vandalize other sections of the page. Ban if you want, i just wanted to make you aware of him if he became a future problem.--FLaSHBaCK HaSH 04:01, April 13, 2010 (UTC)

You're goodEdit

I noticed the same thing about verifying two platforms in one go. Only I couldn't figure out a civil way to address it. Nice going. I think I'm out for the night. Otherwise I might let tiredness and grumpiness dictate. Cheers.--Gothemasticator 04:20, April 14, 2010 (UTC)

Welcome message Edit

If you want to post a welcome message, you can simply use {{subst:welcome|Kingclyde|~~~~}} instead of manually copy/pasting a message (the message you're currently copying is a little outdated ;)). It's easier that way, too :) -- Porter21 (talk) 08:51, April 14, 2010 (UTC)

Halo Edit

Halo 2's server dies today. There's no word on whether it will ever come back. That pisses off a lot of people.

In addition, the pneumatic Missile launcher is very different from the SPNK-R Rocket launcher in Halo. Even the appearance is different. Nitty Tok. 03:25, April 15, 2010 (UTC)

RE: Victory RifleEdit

I understand that, but I thought it was worth mentioning that the Operation Anchorage version of the rifle doesn't degrade. By the way, could you please explain what the "vanilla" version of Fallout 3 is? Telos 08:10, April 26, 2010 (UTC)

Ah. Thanks for clearing that up. Yes, the O:A sniper rifle isn't obtainable after completing the simulation in the vanilla version of the game. Telos 05:48, April 27, 2010 (UTC)

Takoma Park Little Leaguer Cap Edit

I'm not sure why you deleted my note about the Takoma Park Little Leaguer Cap. As far as I can tell, it does indeed increase damage by 5 with all melee weapons, not simply baseball bats.

Windblown79 11:03, May 2, 2010 (UTC)

Nevermind Edit

I thought the Takoma Park Little Leaguer Cap was giving +5 damage to all melee weapons, but that was just a graphical stat issue. My bad :)

FO3 NPC projectEdit

Thank you for your continuing work on the ongoing Fallout 3 NPC project. Please visit the project talk page for the latest updates and current discussions. Our goal is to finish this project before the release of New Vegas! Cheers.--Gothemasticator 18:05, May 4, 2010 (UTC)

Main floor vs first floor Edit

You recently made an edit to the Craterside Supply page, reverting an incorrect edit. In the comment for that edit you asked why someone would make that edit. In England, what we call the first floor in the US, they call the Main Floor; then the first floor is above that, and so on. Since this is an American building, the American standard to which you changed it is appropriate, but I figured you might appreciate knowing why someone would mistakenly make that change that you reverted. Deadlykris 20:44, May 22, 2010 (UTC)

Good to see you!Edit

Been a while. What you been up to?--Gothemasticator 05:44, June 26, 2010 (UTC)

Well, I'm with Nitty on this solution to the situation. It is factual to say that the guide quotes the song, so I'm happy. I wrote a little more than that on Crowley's talk page, but it amounts to me being happy to report facts in the article and leave it at that.--Gothemasticator 05:18, June 29, 2010 (UTC)

Theme Designer Edit

Looks like one of the admins changed all the site's colors using the Theme Designer again. Do NOT do that. Looks like some people think that it only changes their theme and do not realize that it screws up the skin for the entire wiki. It's an administrative tool, not something for setting up a personal theme. Ausir(talk) 17:00, November 4, 2010 (UTC)

Big Book Edit

It doesn't belong there, because that never happens. I have five characters, friends play the game also and the books have only disappeared prior to being picked up and the first patch, not after they are in inventory. It's more likely the person stored it accidentally. Mictlantecuhtli 07:46, November 29, 2010 (UTC)

Sheet Music Book Edit

I'm curious as to why the sheet music book wouldn't qualify as a book in Vegas but it does in Fallout 3? There are 3 other Vegas books that don't affect skills but they are listed as books. I assume it is a matter of them being quest items while the sheet music book isn't? I'm not overly concerned or anything, I'm just wondering. --Pongsifu 07:37, December 7, 2010 (UTC)

The other books I was referring to are Stress and the Modern Refugee: A Primer, Tiny, Tiny Babies: All You Need to Know About Pediatric Medicine, and Pretty Pretty Horsies: A History of the Mongol Empire on the Fallout: New Vegas books and magazines page. --Pongsifu 17:57, December 7, 2010 (UTC)

Is it called "Sheet music book" in-game? My memory could be faulty, but I thought it was just called "sheet music." --Gothemasticator 20:57, December 7, 2010 (UTC)

Not sure about Fallout 3, but I just jumped into New Vegas to double check and it is called "Sheet Music Book". --Pongsifu 19:10, December 8, 2010 (UTC)
I think the categorization criteria we use is how the item/book is used in the pip-boy. A "book" is readable by clicking on it. A miscellaneous item, even a quest item, appears in the inventory screen under "misc" and is not activatable. Does that answer the current questions?--Gothemasticator 12:28, December 9, 2010 (UTC)
Sounds good to me. Because Pre-war books are categorized under misc items as well. They are also a quest item in Fallout 3, as with sheet music book. So we will just stick with the misc item category.--Kingclyde 17:33, December 9, 2010 (UTC)

Would you change "...convince the others with in the tower" to "...convince the others within the tower" on Template:Wikiportal:Main/Featured article/15 December? Green Sprinkles 06:26, December 15, 2010 (UTC)

From what Porter21 told me "The game-specific pages (like all item pages) aren't supposed to have "appearances" sections - for item articles" and also refering to the item layout guide the answer is no for item pages. As for other pages like overview pages character pages etc. I dont know the answer to that. ☣Avatar☣ 22:01, December 15, 2010 (UTC)

Special Request for Maintenance HelpEdit

Porter has pointed out that Category:Nominated for deletion has a backlog of about 2,000 image files. Please give this category some attention. I am asking you and about 20 other editors who have shown a willingness to contribute regularly to The Vault to aim for reviewing and taking appropriate action on 100 of the images marked for deletion. If we all do our part, things will be manageable again by the end of the holidays. Thanks for your help!

  • If an image has been superceded by a better image, delete it.
  • If an image is unused or unlinked to by any page, delete it unless it is unique and worth having. Perhaps we will use it sometime. If you can think of a use, please add it to that page.
  • If an image should not be deleted, remove the delete tag.

Thanks for the help!--Gothemasticator 13:28, December 23, 2010 (UTC)

Thanks especially for helping out even more with the file deletions. I did another round myself earlier today. How are you finding New Vegas? I've only just gotten the game for Christmas and am only about 8 hours in.--Gothemasticator 02:55, January 2, 2011 (UTC)

I wound'nt bother tagging them. I've made a habit of occassionally deleting vids from the vid category. I've nailed a few hundred already, and tags won't help the process. Plus, they'll just get in the way of Jspoletra's pic rampage. :) --Gothemasticator 02:53, January 3, 2011 (UTC)

What I've been doing concerning forum and user pages:
  • If the user who placed the vid has been inactive for some months, or if the forum it appears in has been inactive for some months, I delete the video without worrying about the red links I leave behind.
  • If the vid is on a currently or recently in-use forum or talk or user page, I delete the video, but I also leave a message on the poster's talk page explaining our video policy and directing them to the youtube extension.

So far, with this approach, no problems. Only two or three guys have contacted me after a vid removal to ask for clarification. It seems to work as an approach.--Gothemasticator 06:05, January 3, 2011 (UTC)

I don't think our policy specifies embedding vids when they are appropriate to an article, only on user pages (which I interpret to mean forum and talk pages as well). Vids that genuinely belong in an article may be uploaded to the wiki and linked to. Or am I reading the policy wrong? Just trying to save you some possibly unnecesary work. :)--Gothemasticator 06:02, January 4, 2011 (UTC)
Just to let you know, removing videos really does very little in saving server space, this is because the actual video is no uploaded, its simply the link that is uploading. As for embedding, the video extension will display in the same style if no attributes are added like |thumb etc. And I do believe Porter has more control over formatting the video extension than over embedded video, but I would say it is best to confirm this and what way would be best with Porter. ☣Avatar☣ 20:37, January 7, 2011 (UTC)

baseid unmarked quests Edit

Hi Kingclyde, I have been activating quite some unmarked quests lately and was wondering if there are baseid's for it. If not, they can be removed from the infobox, I'd say. Gothemasticator said I should contact you about that.

  • Do you know where to find the Geck editor id's of all locations, not just the ones here?. For example, I can't find Abandoned Brotherhood of Steel bunker on the list. When I look in the Geck, I can see the cellid/baseid of this location, but not the Geck editor id. And are there baseid's for unmarked quests? Jspoelstra 15:26, January 19, 2011 (UTC)

Deletions Edit

Hey Kingclyde, thanks for deleting those unused images I marked for deletion. They were really starting to bug me because the categories are getting so cluttered with them and I can't make out anymore which I've marked and which not. I was planning to ask Porter just to let a bot loose on them, but now I'll give it a second chance. super mutant encampment Edit

just go north- north west along the wall of the map and you will find 1 super mutant master and 3 super mutants not centaurs

It is noted in The Devil's Throat article and thus does not need it's own page. It does not contain any unique items and is unmarked. The only time an unmarked point gets a page is when it starts a quest, has a unique item or something similar.--Kingclyde 00:32, March 25, 2011 (UTC)

i looked yesterday and saw nothing of the like so someone added it lately

Festus Edit

Festus should be categorized in Category:Fallout 3 characters and Category:Robot characters. The reasoning behind that is as follows: Just like the Lone Wanderer is a specific, named human character (i.e. a named instance of a human), Festus is a specific, named robotic character (i.e. a named instance of a robot). Same for named dogs or other creatures. Hope that's somewhat understandable :) -- Porter21 (talk) 07:12, March 25, 2011 (UTC)

Related Quests Edit

Then it should be removed from the layout, along with many other things that are repeated and contained in the infobox, like buildings (which is a required section for large settlements), appearances. The same then should also apply to other layout guide lines, like appearances in the character layout etc. There is a lot of repeated information in the actual page that is already stated in the infobox, the way I see it, is that the infobox is a quick reference to the pages content. However this should not detract from containing the same information within the main content of the page. User avatar tagUser Avatar talk 18:08, April 5, 2011 (UTC)

I don't see how this would be speculation. There is a addiction drug on market called Suboxone or Subutex; I read the page about Fixer and related it to those two drugs. FO3 NPC project Edit

Hello Kingclyde,

Maybe you have forgotten about the Fallout 3 NPC overhaul project and maybe you haven't. I have recently been pouring lots of work into the project and have finished essentially the majority of all unfinished sections, including all the add-ons. However, there is one thing that I cannot do and that is give peer reviews. As the new project leader, I'm asking to to take some time out of your online schedule and do some reviews on the project, if you'd be so kind. Who knows? If I get enough people doing peer reviews, we could finally finish this project. We didn't finish it before Fallout: New Vegas came out like we hoped, but at least we can finish it. Best regards, Kastera (talk) 22:41, May 24, 2011 (UTC)

well ausir is the founder of this wikia and i doubt he would go against his own policy

Verify Edit

When I'm verifying a bug, what should I do? Just remove the needs verification template? Kastera (talk) 02:29, May 26, 2011 (UTC)

Oh! Well, I guess not everything has to bee hard.

so are you saying bobbleheads are not hard to find?

i did read them and it said and i quote "...a video illustrating how to find an item which is in a hard-to-find location." which i believe is too vague if you are saying they are easy to find when i personally still had trouble finding some of them with written directions. so the rule should be more specific or the videos dont go against policy and therefore shouldn't be removed--Ohno itsthecopz 03:15, May 26, 2011 (UTC)

I've noticed a big crop of articles from this guy James such Capital_Wasteland_BOS-Enclave_War NCR-Fiends_War NCR-Caesar%27s_Legion_War NCR-Enclave_War

Just a few examples, they feel kind of redundent to other articles and it doesn't follow the more objective stance of the wikia. I'm curious what you have to say about them.--LordVukodlak 15:03, May 27, 2011 (UTC)

its just annoying to see and edit to something im following and it just be one or two words changed--Ohno itsthecopz 07:33, May 28, 2011 (UTC)

Categories Edit

I would say get rid of the Category: Fallout: New Vegas mentioned-only from all the articles linked to the NCR category. I think the mentioned=only category is a bit too full. Kastera (talk) 02:42, May 29, 2011 (UTC)

Sorry, I thought it would be a good idea to add the categories, because, the Category:New California Republic Army characters has both mentioned characters and characters that are actually in the game. I thought if I seperate them into two seperate categories it would make it easier for people to actually see which characters are actually in the game, if they plan on role-playing as an NCR slayer or something like that in the game. If I caused any problems or trouble, I'm sorry, it wasn't my intenntion to cause anyone any problems, I was only trying to help. Overseer 777 02:56, May 29, 2011 (UTC)

Oh yeah, definitely. NCR Army characters and F:NV NCR characters are basically the same. I saw get rid of the F:NV NCR characters category. Kastera (talk) 02:58, May 29, 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the links, but could you clarify that what I removed, ie one duplication and two "bugs" that were in fact misconceptions by the poster, should have been dealt with in such a way. Thanks --Marineris 19:22, June 9, 2011 (UTC)

Uh...have you ever heard of an unmarked location? --Lugiatm (talk · contribs) 21:30, June 9, 2011 (UTC)
I apologise for any offence caused, although I would point out that your sarcastic response ("Thanks for leaving a response on my talk page with attitude") is not setting a good example for me to follow. Now, where exactly is it said that the wiki uses the GECK to define articles? --Lugiatm (talk · contribs) 21:45, June 9, 2011 (UTC)
My suspicion is that such a line in policy about the GECK does not exist. Do you know that if you are arrested, if a police officer can't cite the law under which you are being arrested then they can't actually arrest you? I'm not saying info from the GECK can't be used; indeed, information from any source is welcome (and in fact this wiki pre-dates the GECK). The reason obvious vandals can be blocked without a policy being cited is because nobody is going to contest that block, but in this case I am contesting your edit, which you have supported by citing a policy you are unable or unwilling to look for. --Lugiatm (talk · contribs) 22:02, June 9, 2011 (UTC)
It's hardly satisfying a curiosity; you are claiming that there is an entire page that should go undocumented, and then justifying this with a policy which you are unable to look for. Believe it or not, I am also trying to help the wiki here, and your attitude that you should just be able to do whatever you want without any kind of consensus is impeding that. --Lugiatm (talk · contribs) 22:10, June 9, 2011 (UTC)

talk page edit. Edit

Sorry about that, I definitely shouldn't have added the second bit. Back to Repconn HQ, I can't really get my head around what would be the correct way for me to deal with the status of something that has been verified that I dispute the accuracy of. On the talk page, or the forum? Thanks --Marineris 20:51, June 9, 2011 (UTC)

Look, I really don't mean to be disrespectful but you've jumped to a wrong conclusion there. The bug was succinctly phrased; I even quoted it in it's entirety on the talk page, how could I not have read it all?. As for having a console, I removed a line that said (needs console verification) after checking it on xbox360. I have the pc version of New Vegas and still couldn't verify the 65 repair/8 per thing because, well, it isn't a bug.

However, I do see your point and realise that what I removed should have been accompanied with a clarification within the article. Thanks for your help --Marineris 21:26, June 9, 2011 (UTC)

The Church of Scientology Edit

I mean cult as in, the leaders exploit their followers for all they have. You should watch Panorama's documentaries on it. The way they cut people off from the outside world, lull them into a sense of false importance. In aforementioned documentaries a former co-leader spoke out against Scientology. As did many other former members who lost so much to the cult. Think about, Hubbard formed the faith from various sci-fi novels of his and some of the beliefs are denied by members. Such as Lord Zenu. Hubbard once said that the best way to mkae money was to create a religion (though this was a long time before he founded the Church). Help with sonic emitter specs Edit

Well the pages already exists for each variant of the weapon (just needs the stats adding fully). Sonic emitter is already a disambig page. But I would move Sonic emitter (weapon) to (Fallout: New Vegas) disambig namespace and then turn Sonic emitter (weapon) into an overview page like Laser pistol. User avatar tagUser Avatar talk 22:02, July 27, 2011 (UTC)
Forget the above, just remembered there is no sonic emitter weapon, they all have names after them. Simply solution is to turn Sonic emitter (weapon) into a weapon overview page like Laser pistol. User avatar tagUser Avatar talk 22:07, July 27, 2011 (UTC)

The whole point of those variants is because they are all artillery, there are very few artillery pieces in the game. Demolitions Expert and Missile launcher, on the ps3 Edit

I've been having some trouble convincing a few admins(I think there admins) that after the latest patch, the demolitions expert now effects annabelle and the missile launcher.(but ONLY the ps3). One of them Saxony4 I believe may have outright lied he said he performed a test on the ps3 proving I was wrong. It took a few days as my machine was in the shop but I was able to perform my own test and took pictures.

No Ranks in demolitions expert:
One Rank in demolitions expert:
Two Ranks in demolitions expert:
Three Ranks in demolitions expert:

So I can only conclude he either lied to me or performed the test very poorly. The regular missile launcher is similarly effected, but lacks a reliable easy access source close to goodsprings. I would make the redit myself but I don't want to get into an edit war. --LordVukodlak 08:36, July 28, 2011 (UTC)

The math of the above looks right to me. Each is a 20% increase over the original damage. Can't double check on my current files though since I never took Demolition Expert as a perk and my characters are maxed. UserGreatMara9mm Pistol 08:48, July 28, 2011 (UTC)

Howitzer, fixed gun and "anti-aircraft" Edit

Personally I always considered it a AA gun, it always reminded me of the old German 88s of WWII. Looking into the GECK, it does actually call it a AA gun (VHDAntiaircraftGun 0013721D). The only real question is if it deserves its own page or if it should be merged into Fallout 3 and New Vegas miscellaneous world objects or a separate overview page for artillery. Personally I am favouring an overview page for artillery pieces with redirects from AA, Howitzer, and fixed gun. But at the same time, each piece has its own unquie interaction with the PC, which by all rights should give it its own page. User avatar tagUser Avatar talk 11:01, July 28, 2011 (UTC)

Can I ask you to take a look at this forum topic? I would appreciate your input. JspoelJspoel Vault Boy 19:11, July 28, 2011 (UTC)

Luckily, I'm an admin on the FalloutAnswers site. I deleted all his spam and banned him infinitely. Being an admin is FUN! --Kastera (talk) 04:30, August 1, 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for the chat, but It is my talk page, I believe I should be able to do whatever I wish with it? Saxony4 17:47, August 1, 2011 (UTC)

  • Another vandal called herself as Cass. She's removing content --gauzzrifle 08:12, August 2, 2011 (UTC)
They also heavily vandalised Cass's page with very vulgar content. Yes Man default 08:15, August 2, 2011 (UTC)

Chatban Edit

Two things: First of all, the unbanning of Trevor the Scout was in particulary bad taste, since to begin with, he had spammed, and two mods, and an admin, considered him to be disrputing chat. I don't know why his chetban is removed, but that you'll circumvent our ban is nothing else than a child going to his mom, when his dad won allow him candy. It really lessens our authority, and the severity of the ban, is you simply can go behind the backs of people.

Secondly, the reason for the chat to be english only, as that Cartman and Ghostavatar set the basic rule outline up, and I'm quite sure that the IRC channel has that rule as well. It is also standard wikia policy to use only english (imagine people editing in spanish, for example), and when in chat, a foreign language cannot be moderated by admins and mods, effectively circumventing the system, and enabling insults, and so on.
