Fallout Wiki

I really appreciated the reminder you recently threw up in the fora, and I figured I might suggest another topic for you to tackle. I have been noticing, for quite some time, that a few of our editors are taking a bad-faith doctrine towards edits they see in the 'Recent Changes'. A user will add a note into an article, without a source, and instead of good faith being applied towards their effort, and having their claim either investigated or slapped with a {{Verify}} tag, they are being immediately reverted without a secondary thought ever being given.

Having edits reverted zealously, in disregard of our good faith rules, is pretty discouraging for any user - especially when reverts are not supplemented with an attempt for discussion, or a proper edit summary. I think your topic and possibly this one, can be really helpful, as I get the feeling that the rules are becoming more important than our users.

Some food for thought. User:Sarkhan the Sojourner 17:02, September 1, 2015 (UTC)

Ive been told you were looking for me

The Immortan Joe

Fallout Shelter characters

Hi KingClyde,

I have a few questions about the Fallout Shelter characters page.

1: Why did you delete my (see bugs) note? I've seen it used on a number of Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas pages. I put it there so a thousand other helpful Android users won't "correct" Abraham Washington's outfit like I did. Looking at the history, I wasn't the first. I figure a note is easier than fixing it again and again.

Yes, people should check the whole page, but if a player doesn't think he's experiencing a bug, he may not read the bug section. Honestly, when I made the initial change. I thought I was correcting a "helpful" editor who had put in what it looked like, in absence of a name given for the outfit in the game. That was my bad, but I doubt I will be the last.

One option I had considered was a dual listing, showing:

  • iOS: Professor outfit
  • Android: (see bugs)

2: Why is Scribe Rothchild the only one who loses his title and is instead listed by his FO3 given name? At least six others should also be, if this is a rule. And the alphabetization needs to be fixed too, as Reginald comes before Sarah. But, by that note, shouldn't they be alphabetized by their last names? Perhaps even put in last, first order: e.g. Rothchild, Reginald?

Personally, I think this page should use the Fallout Shelter in-game display names and alphabetize them as given. First, it's because that is what the players of this game will be looking for. Nowhere in Fallout Shelter is Rothchild's first name given, so players of only this game have no way of knowing it. Second, this wiki does use other name formats when it makes sense. Check out the Brotherhood of Steel (Capital Wasteland) page; under notable members it lists Elder Lyons and Head Scribe Rothchild, not Owen Lyons and Reginald Rothchild. Because it makes sense to do so in that context, just as it does here.

Insisting that the FO3 given names be used on a FOS page feels needlessly pedantic to me. And it feels a bit superior too, like you're laughing at FOS players for not already knowing the FO3 canon. FOS is about Bethesda encouraging and exciting future FO4 players, not rewarding FO3 players for their knowledge of minutia.

Oh, just so you know, I am a long-time FO3 player with hundreds of hours played. So I am not just some noob who "just doesn't care about all that old Fallout crap." I'm speaking as someone who wants players who start with FOS to feel comfortable here. Let them see "Scribe Rothchild" is a link; they may click on it and learn more about the rich history of the character beyond just being a legendary dweller.

Thank you,

Portable infoboxes

Heya :) Just stopping by to see if you have any thoughts on the Portable infobox project that Shining-Armor started up a little while ago. Because of Fallout's obvious importance to Wikia, particularly as we approach the launch of Fallout 4, we'd like to make sure that all your infoboxes are as accessible by mobile devices as is possible. Please drop by the forum as soon as you can and give your views. And of course my user talk page is always open to whatever comments — even rude ones — that you'd like to make!

New infoboxes

Hey, TOR has been helping us out to make our infoboxes compatible with mobile stuff, but so far, his work didn't get that much feedback. Would you be so kind to pay the forum a visit and leave some feedback. And apart from that, there has been uncertainty in chat as to how we would get to use these. Would we need a vote before we can use them, or can it just be done by a decision from the sysops? - Greets Peace'n Hugs (talk) (blog) 21:33, October 26, 2015 (UTC)

Oh, do you mean the melee bobblehead I did? I saw the perception bobblehead page used the as FO3's (http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Bobblehead_-_Perception) and I didn't know if I should have made a new page or not.

Page width

I was thinking about changing the width of the content space to the old value again (wider), wiki wide. I have had the old width running in my personal wikia.css for the past few months; yesterday and today I tried the standard width again, because of a request from Energy X to a change of side banner. Experimenting with that, I still don't like the small space and the big fonts. What do you think of it? I first wanted to ask the bcs/admins, later we can ask Wikia (if everyone's ok with it), because I'm not sure they would allow a change to something they implemented wikiawide. What do you think about the infobox replacement Wikia wants to go ahead with, Clyde? (Sent you an e-mail about it) Jspoel Speech Jspoel.png 07:50, November 19, 2015 (UTC)

I'm not that far in the game, but from what I hear probably best to list the generators for spawn locations and I'd list the fixed fusion core locations as well, and a few vendors or for a quest reward. The fusion core is a special type of ammo and people are interested in where to find them. You can see it in the number of location additions by users. We should put them in a table, first colum location, second column specifics where to find them. That makes it better to read. Jspoel Speech Jspoel.png 21:14, November 19, 2015 (UTC)

Did I see that right?

You saw nothing... now move along =P Things have been fine, nothing really special or new. Just been playing other games. User:AvatarUser talk:Avatar 21:41, December 2, 2015 (UTC)

We had a small problem earlier with Bob Duh Builder and at least one anon defacing the Level page. Wonder if you could tak a look since you're on. Great Mara (talk) 05:24, December 7, 2015 (UTC)

Happy new year!

I would like to use the Christmas/New Year-wishes-tradition, though I'm a week late, to thank those around me who kept this wiki and daily life more fun for me during the past year. Everything just seems so normal and evident that we are here almost every day, yet it's very worthwhile to consider for a moment how wonderful it is to have people like you around me, making editing and being on chat a lot more enjoyable. I would also like to use this opportunity to wish a happy and healthy new year for you and everyone around you who is dear to you. I hope you'll have a great and healthy new year in which all your wishes may come true! - Greets Peace'n Hugs (talk) (blog) 00:04, January 6, 2016 (UTC)

Herbert Dashwood & The Replicated Man

It says on Herbert page, in the interaction section, that "Herbert Dashwood is in possession of a Replicated Man holotape". I was only harmonizing the infobox with the interaction box, which already contained the info about the Replicated Man quest. --YoDsanklai (talk, blogs) 11:48, January 8, 2016 (UTC)

Scrounger and fusion cores

How did you test that the Scrounger perk affects the number of fusion cores in ammo boxes? I can't see that in the game data. Version 1.4 did add several energy ammo types to the scrounger lists (including fusion cells), but not fusion cores. --Alfwyn (talk) 17:46, March 1, 2016 (UTC)

No, there is no official editor yet (announced for April), but there is FO4edit and I'm doing a dump of my own to search through the data - the format is very similar to Skyrim. --Alfwyn (talk) 22:00, March 2, 2016 (UTC)

Robo Cop

Instead of replacing accurate information with incorrect information and doing six individual section edits for no reason, maybe just edit correctly and not take the lazy way out eh? Paladin117>>iff bored; 05:13, March 18, 2016 (UTC)

And come to think of it, when you see an edit that requires fixing that someone took time at and it isn't 100% vandalism, completely rewriting it and filling it with inaccurate information does two things: 1)may make new or fresh editors become discouraged from editing and 2)it takes time and skill to look information up (adding inaccurate information does not). I'm not trying to scold you or anything because I know you don't give a crap about what I say, I'm just trying to say slow down and look at the data integrity. The new entry was horrible. Paladin117>>iff bored; 05:13, March 18, 2016 (UTC)

Regarding my editing

I was an immigrant from Elder Scrolls wiki and was expert of console command, this led to my editing style.

As for Minigun, it was my mistake, it said it requires certain amount of strength to be wielded when I was in Concord, yet I forgot the exact number and assumed it was 8 when I was in low level.

Sorry for your inconvenience. Mhazard (talk) 08:40, April 8, 2016 (UTC)

Anon defaced an article page, immediately reverted by another user named KockaAdmiralac who only have one edit in close enough succession makes me had a hunch they may belong to the same IP. This user is probably vandalizing as an anon to boost edit counts for themselves. Just to clarify although it may be just really new to wikia. Ta --吉野Cassie Talk to me! ✿ 07:29, April 15, 2016 (UTC)

T-51 Texture

Look, I don't want to edit war about this, but the image is clearly not correct, and if it is then it's in terrible lighting with some weird color settings. This is the best counter-argument I can give aside from taking a bunch of screenshots right now and uploading them. The rusty olive paint is the default for the torso - Military paint makes it slightly greener, removes the rust, and adds an Army logo. The grey coloration, to my knowledge, does not appear in the game at all.-- 21:19, April 19, 2016 (UTC)

T51military.jpgMilitary mod on torso T51nomaterialmod.jpg No material mod on anything.

These are from the game but I just realized they are from late in the day so it is hard to notice the difference. I'll go in game and take better pictures but there is no green in the torso at all on the non-material modded one.--Kingclyde (talk) 23:42, April 19, 2016 (UTC)

Saw the pictures in activity, not stalking pages. It has to be T-51a. JMA4269 (talk) 00:02, April 20, 2016 (UTC)
Cancel that, it's just a load of rust over the torso and shoulders. You can clearly tell looking closely at it. Okay I'm out.

better pics and in A model

T51amilpaint.jpgMilitary mod on everything T51anomod.jpg No material mod on anything.

This should be correct now.--Kingclyde (talk) 09:20, April 20, 2016 (UTC)

I should have made myself more clear

I didn't re-revert the edit, I checked it and you had popped it back, so it was unnecessary for me to do so. ~The Crystal Crow~ 02:32, May 6, 2016 (UTC)

Admin talk blog

Please see User blog:The Gunny/Admin talk - Discussions moderation for a few site wide changes wikia has made as well as some details on discussions moderating. I will be opening a discussions topic in the next day or so with the intent to better introduce all of our site moderation team to the users there (most of them have no idea who most of us are). When that topic goes live, I will leave another talk page message for you asking that you navigate to the topic to introduce yourself and interact a bit with users there. I feel this is very important and a problem we need to fix. The Gunny  UserGunny chevrons.png 16:34, July 2, 2017 (UTC)

I plan on making that discussions topic tomorrow finally, around noonish my time. I plan on introducing the rest of the admin/mod team who the discussions users don't know very well. I am going to do it in a kinda AMA format, and I'll start by explaining who I am and what I do here. I would really appreciate it if any admins/mods who don't currently spend a lot of time there to chime in. I really feel this is important.  The Gunny  UserGunny chevrons.png 01:30, July 8, 2017 (UTC)

Wikia's forced addition of videos to the wiki

Hello, I realise you may not have edited the wiki, or even visited us in a while. We do miss you, and I apologise for contacting you with a request for help… but we do need it, and there’s not much you need to do to help us.

As you may be aware, Wikia/Fandom have added a number of videos to pages on the wiki that they have self authored. Although the consensus view so far seems to be that these are not to our standards, I encourage you to view these for yourself and make up your own mind.

You can find a link to all the videos, and a petition I would like you to consider here. If you believe that these videos do not meet our standards, detract from the wiki, and should be removed, I encourage you to vote yes on this petition. You are of course welcome to vote no if you do not believe this is the case.

Thank you for your consideration. Agent c (talk) 21:21, September 7, 2017 (UTC)

If you want to know about the merge progress, halfway August asked me on my talkpage about joining forces. The end of August it progressed with my blog, User_blog:Jspoelstra/Discussion_merge_Nukapedia_/_The_Vault, most positive responses and we went ahead with a vote end of September, Forum:Nukapedia The Vault merge formal vote. Soon people started complaining we didn't have a proper discussion yet, and the vote was paused to have that on Forum:Discussion merge Nukapedia / The Vault. Came out after discussion that we needed guidelines to merging, which were formed here: Forum:Discussion_merge_Nukapedia_/_The_Vault#Proposal_merge_guidelines. We left it for a week to be commented on, then it was placed here: Fallout_Wiki:Fallout_76_Wiki_Merger#Merge guidelines. About a week ago the vote was restarted and now we are here; the vote was closed yesterday. I suggest you create an account in Discord, I make you a friend there so you can enter our Bureaucrat group, and we can decide the result. Jspoel Speech Jspoel.png 16:22, November 2, 2019 (UTC)

I don't see you yet in Discord, I hope you get it done by tomorrow. But if you have trouble setting up an account, send me your thoughts on the merge vote/result by e-mail.Jspoel Speech Jspoel.png 21:19, November 2, 2019 (UTC)
Jspoel#8359. I'm in there now. Jspoel Speech Jspoel.png 22:42, November 2, 2019 (UTC)
It's all in control. We still have a few users working on merging articles, mostly The Vault users, some from Nukapedia, but they're a few articles a day at most so all good to keep up with. As you can see we still have very good activity with a some promising new users like Kdarrow (check her blogs if you can), DankalorYT and some others. More good things to come with three new updates on the way. Jspoel Speech Jspoel.png 17:35, July 4, 2020 (UTC)

Call to Action

There have been quite a few sweeping changes to the wiki lately, and now that the Unified Community Platform has come to fruition here, it's more important than ever for our leadership to get together and inspire innovative changes for the next generation of wiki editors/readers.

As someone who is somewhat inactive myself, I understand how life gets in the way, and I'll fully understand if many of you are unable to commit, but I'd still like to try my best to appeal to you all in getting involved in a few of our currently active projects; especially so since rights-users participating in our discussions/votes are at an all-time low, and many internal decisions are having to be made between a select few users, which is bad for building consensus on important matters.

As such, I would like to ask for you all to look into two of our most important projects right now, as it would mean a lot to me and the wiki if as many people as possible got directly involved in helping shape our future:

  1. The Vault Academy is a program for the training and acclimation of new and even veteran users, training them on how to get involved in the various facets of the wiki, as well as helping them build bonds with their fellow users. The program has kicked off in a big way, and we are in desperate need of more rights-users to sign on as mentors, as we're having to share multiple mentees between each mentor. If you're looking to leave your mark on the wiki, then signing onto TVA program will be your way of doing so.
  2. As a minor update, we now have a new plagiarism point of contact. Should you suspect plagiarized content is at play, please get into point with the user FDekker who will be the initial handler of all such cases going forward.
  3. We have an upcoming meeting of the minds coming up on the 20th of this month, and we need people to come forth and pitch their ideas for adapting to the recent UCP changes, and to possibly adopt some of the ideas that our new datamining friends have been pitching to us.

Thanks for your consideration, and I do hope to hear back from you all! Even if it is just some of you dropping by to check the place out and say a quick hello. 寧靜 Fox.png 14:12, 13 November 2020 (UTC)
