No worries. I just thought someone made a mistake by reverting something without leaving a note. AeonsLegend (contact me) 01:39, January 5, 2020 (UTC)

Sup. Just wondering why you've reverted my edit on the Assault Rifle in FO4. I've added a broken link to Wikipedia, then immediately returned to fix it only to see my edit gone. Did I do anything wrong? Are links to Wikipedia frowned upon here? AngusMcGovern (talk) 01:13, January 19, 2020 (UTC)

Commonwealth Minutemen Edit

I've reverted back to my edit because you didn't check your facts out. On Mama Murphy's character page, it states that she's a member of Commonwealth Minutemen. It also states that she's a character of Fallout: Wasteland Warfare, so I've added FWW to the Games template.

Before assuming people's edits are all incorrect, you might want to consider reviewing your incorrections as well.

The quote by Legion from Mass Effect 2 sums up this situation "People are quick to judge but slow to correct themselves.".

I've included references below which provide additional information.

Re:Mama Murphy Edit

Well, you're wrong. According to an item titled Mama Murphy's note, found in Quincy, along with dialogue provided by Preston if you hangout with him as a companion. He eventually mentions that they've came from Quincy back when Murphy joined them. If you visit Quincy, you'll find a note alongside some chems. Additional citation information can be found in the dialogue files along with speaking to the characters in game directly as well. This information is provided as you progress through the main story of the game. You'll also find terminals in Quincy as well which provide additional information to support my cite.

You might want to consider reviewing your facts again because the information already available on pages throughout this wiki supports my case further.

I'll have a deeper look to see if there is any information regarding her membership, my point remains clear though: why does she live with them in Concord, Quincy, The Castle and at Sanctuary Hills if she ain't a member?! Surely they would have placed her in a settlement unless she can provide assistance to the faction. Whether or not if she has a proper forename is a mystery in itself!!

Mama Murphy - Citation 1 Edit

Found out that Mama Murphy is a member of Commonwealth Minutemen according to the Gamepedia article at

Also found out that The Vault Wiki at Gamepedia is apart of Nukapedia Wiki on Fandom.

I'll keep looking for additional information and I'll post it in new comments on your talk page.

Mama Murphy - Citation 2 Edit

Thank you for clearing that up. Thought Gamepedia is more official since it says Official Wiki on many of the wikis on there, was my second source since most information is on this wiki. My attitude in my previous comments is uncalled-for and I'll like to apologies. Mostly, its because I was defending what I knew was right but something I've completely didn't throughly look into further. Although, I'm thankful that you kept the Wasteland Warfare FWW in the Games template on the Mama Murphy article. Apparently she's a character on the board game.

Couldn't find anything in or out of the game regarding Mama Murphy's real name. Sturges once gave her the nickname "Murphy the Madwoman" because she was badass before she started using chems. She got addicted while out in Quincy (game dialogue and specific items mentions her addiction -- namely the note I mentioned earlier).

Marksman rifle? Edit

Why did you you revert my edits on the sniper rifle page? At least IRL the marksman rifle is similar but still distinct from a sniper rifle. if you put it on this page people could argue things like the battle rifle and bozar could be sniper rifles.--Branebriar1930 (talk) 09:12, February 12, 2020 (UTC) Bozar uses 5.56 and has a scope why isn't it there?--Branebriar1930 (talk) 11:50, February 12, 2020 (UTC)

Bert Riggs Edit

I'm sorry to have to do this, but consider this an official warning for your part in the farce that I witnessed on the Bert Riggs article. On-top of seeing Ant edit-warring, in which he received a 3-day block, I also unfortunately witnessed multiple special-rights holders continuing the edit-warring further, rather than starting a dialogue and coming to a proper consensus before settling a status quo.

Edit-warring is something I've agreed to start cracking down on heavily, and in the future, I recommend getting an administrator involved as a mediator, to help figure out a solution before moving forward.

Thank you for your time, and I'll be looking forward to seeing you around the wiki. 寧靜 Fox 07:18, February 15, 2020 (UTC)

As dictated by FW:AP, reverting a revert is just as bad, and contributes towards the edit-warring. When not one, not even two, but three special-rights holders are getting involved in the edit-warring, then that just makes the entire wiki and its administration look bad.
The proper procedure, as L84tea followed, is to get an administrator involved to determine if any sort of action needs to be taken. Action was taken, and once Ant's block is up, I will get started on mediating the issue at-hand. So I'm going to conclude this with two points of interest:
  1. The status quo can only be determined and then upheld, if you can prove that the editing guidelines/policies have been objectively broken. In this case, you all were arguing over personal choice in terminology, which is wholly subjective. As such, everyone involved in the back and forth edit-warring, was in the wrong.
  1. The warning holds. You are subject to disciplinary measures just as any other editor is, and if I see you edit-warring again, I will be temporarily removing your rights for a period of one-week for the next offense, following the administration policy protocol. I hate to be blunt here, but you saying you're going to disregard my warning isn't going to fly here.

I sincerely hope we can use this incident as a chance to improve. The edit-warring needs to stop, and that applies to both sides of the road. 寧靜 Fox 17:40, February 15, 2020 (UTC)

You are absolutely free to do so - J and I will discuss the matter further if it's warranted. In the meantime, my warning holds, and that's something I expect you to respect, whether or not you agree with it. 寧靜 Fox 18:39, February 15, 2020 (UTC)

settlement leadership Edit

you don't think the SS becomes the Leader or owner of settlements they claim?--Branebriar1930 (talk) 14:06, February 26, 2020 (UTC)

i guess that's true from a game play perspective but from a lore perspective there are exceptions:

  • Dalton farm does get bequeathed to the SS, who can decide whether to put settlers in or not.
  • mechanist lair and boston airport don't have settlers (though the latter is the brotherhood's)
  • the castle is the HQ of the minutemen, ss can become their leader so it stands to reason that they become leader of the castle.

Lets not forget that the SS kinda has the power to add and move settlers at will and has total power over every aspect of the settlement itself(including even HAVING settlers) so i think the SS should fill the leader slot on some of these locations. And also just because the SS can be booted doesn't mean that they don't lead the settlement, just that they were a bad leader(sort of like impeachment)--Branebriar1930 (talk) 14:16, February 26, 2020 (UTC)

armor Edit

Outfits are not the same thing as clothing. clothing can take armor segments, outfits can't. thats why i said best OUTFIT in the game. im just stating the best in each category (clothing ,outfit, armor) as they are presented on the armor and clothing page. you seem to be overlapping them a bit--Branebriar1930 (talk) 16:22, February 27, 2020 (UTC).

Wonder why you flagged me a "warring" when i edited a page to remove non-canon items, and justified my change, while the person who reverts my change does not justify why non-canon information should be in the article.

I do not understand. Any explanation?

Western Revolver change revert Edit

Just wondering why you reverted the change on the western revolver, it is in fact single action and not double action in game

--Gaelan talk 16:33, April 19, 2020 (UTC)

How do you know it's a double action if it's only being used in single action, it's only ever used in single action so that's the only provable action unless they add double action fire to it in the future, calling it double action is misleading to the in game weapon, and there's a few revolvers that properly fire in double action action without manually cocking the hammer eg. the Fallout 3 scoped .44 revolver and NV .44 fire correctly in double action --Gaelan talk 04:10, April 20, 2020 (UTC)

Repair article reversion Edit

Hi Great Mara,

I noticed that you undid my edit on the Repair article (making a table sortable), but you gave no reason in your summary. Would you be able to explain to me why you reverted it?

Thanks! --Karlshammar (talk) 13:55, May 31, 2020 (UTC)

Thanks for your reply! You're may be right that there is no "need" for the table to be sortable, but is there any more "need" for it to be unsortable? The reason I made it sortable was that I wanted to be able to sort it both by level and skill requirement, which that helped me do.

I find the edit reversion a bit unmotivated since the way you wanted it is no more "needed" than the way I put it, and it makes the information less accessible, but since I already got the information I want from it, I'm just going to leave it as you changed it rather than risk an edit war.

May I politely ask that you advise people of the reason for an edit reversion in the edit summary in the future? I think that would be quite courteous and helpful. When I went to check the history of the file I was left scratching my head wondering why you did it. :)

PS. You are mistaken about it already being properly arranged. Right now it is in an apparently random order, and not sorted by any of the four columns. --Karlshammar (talk) 21:55, June 2, 2020 (UTC)

Comparisons in characteristicsEdit

Hello Mara, sorry for bothering you, but i need a bit of clarification from you in order to resolve a little spat that's going on over the Father Winter helmet. Branebriar seems to disagree with the presence of this line of text: "The helmet incorporates a variety of elements from other models of power armor into its design. Unlike the standard T-45 helmet, the Father Winter helmet has a centrally-mounted headlamp, similar to that of the T-51 power armor. Additionally, the rear hose connectors extend outward toward the front of the helmet, another feature absent from both the T-45 and T-60 models. Similarly to Ultracite power armor, the larger ventilation hoses are connected by ported canisters roughly halfway towards the front of the helmet."

He says that the "rules" say comparison isn't allowed in the characteristics section, despite existing on every other 76 PA page (sans T-45 oddly), and pointed to you after i asked for clarification on which "rules" he was talking about. If you wouldn't mind pointing me towards these rules, and/or explaining why comparisons aren't allowed on the characteristics section, that would be very helpful in resolving this issue. Thank you!--DankalorYT 22:14, June 3, 2020 (UTC)

  • Thanks for the response, however I still don't exactly see how the issues are the same. This specific example does not really bloat or obfuscate the contents of the article, and help to understand the item itself as a whole. The specific example Branebriar is referencing seems far from what this is, just an objective note about the item. Also, if you wouldn't mind, could you shoot me a link to these article guidelines you mentioned? I still cant find anything specifically referencing this being a no-no. Thanks again! --DankalorYT 23:44, June 3, 2020 (UTC)

R.E. FootballEdit

Wikipedia is also run in American English, for the most part, and the entire football page is written in American English, so its still relevant. There is also nothing in American English that dictates that "football" is the proper grammatical way to call it, its borderline just the American slang for it. Calling it American football does not go against the language policies of the wiki, so theres really no reason to remove it. --DankalorYT 23:25, June 29, 2020 (UTC)

Again, the "American naming" is pretty much slang. Our wiki operates in American English, and when American English says absolutely nothing against "American football", turning it into slang for the sake of "proper American naming" is bogus. The name "American football" is still in American English, and as such goes against no policy at all. There is no reason to remove it. --DankalorYT 23:52, June 29, 2020 (UTC)
I dont really see how me being Canadian has anything to do with anything. Football is identical here, and im literally an hour from the border, so its not like im freezing my ass off in the Arctic circle. I know what football is. I have seen people call it American football, and while i personally dont, again, there is literally nothing wrong with calling it that. American English, the form of English we use on the wiki, still applies to the words "American football", meaning, from a policy stance, there is nothing wrong. Again, there is no reason to remove it. --DankalorYT 00:21, June 30, 2020 (UTC)
Insulting? How? I'd also like to point out that the edits suggested are on a worldwide page, one that covers the entire Fallout world. As such, differentiating it becomes even more important. If it were a page on just America, maybe, but a worldwide page should use proper worldwide nomenclature, not a regional name. --DankalorYT 01:06, June 30, 2020 (UTC)
Worldwide nomenclature can stay in its lane, of course. I just cant think of a better lane than an article on the entire Fallout universe. You dont seem to be realising that the term "American football" is proper American English. As it is now, we are using an American English term, on the worldwide page, to distinguish that we are talking about the changes the divergence made to said sport. Once again, theres no need to remove it. Its in line with policy, American English, common sense, and is specific enough to be instantly understood to be what it is. Switching it to slang just because you have an issue with using proper worldwide nomenclature on a page devoted to the entire Fallout world is purely nonsensical. --DankalorYT 02:49, June 30, 2020 (UTC)

No DogEdit

I've got no dog in this hunt, but as a general rule, American Football is mainly used by other countries to differentiate from soccer, as most of them refer to soccer as football. Some people in America do use the term American Football, but it's mostly limited to soccer aficionados. Being that this wiki is using American standard English, I would call it football and leave it at that. StormRider71 (talk) 03:23, June 30, 2020 (UTC)

Regarding Ranger Ghost edit: Edit

"I believe that was the intention" is not the same as "Yes." That just means that may have been the intention that was changed at some point. The reason for Ghost's nickname is given in the game by Cass (which is referenced in the very first sentence of the write up.)

Here are two very good reasons why Ghost cannot be an albino:

1) Albinos can't stand out in the desert sun all day. They would get skin cancer. I have a co-worker who is an albino. He has to completely cover up just to walk one block to the train station.

2) Albinos have notoriously poor eyesight. An albino could not be a sniper/spotter. That would require excellent eyesight.

As for references, I go with Wikipedia

So the two things that Ranger Ghost does, stand outside in the sun and stare off into the distance, are two things that an albino cannot do. Add that Cass gives the reason for her name, and it has nothing to do with albinism, pretty much undermines a tossed-off "I believe that was the intention" reference on a forum chat.

I'm sure the game designers realized this at some point and that's why IN THE GAME there is no reference to it.

R.E. Edit WarringEdit

One, not an edit war. An edit war would be "Repeatedly reverting each other's changes" from the user conduct guideline, so, not an edit war. Im merely adjusting my number based on your input. Oddly, you're the one who's reverting🤔

Second, do you know the meaning of the word asinine? Because saying that Nate and Nora, who have a child, a law degree (requiring a high school diploma), and enlisted in the military (requiring the age of 18) are not 18 is asinine. They literally could not be under 18. Let alone younger than 10. I literally cant believe you think its speculative to say they're older than 10. They legit have a child.

If possible, we should be pushing their age to as close as their actual age, without speculating. That gives us (what i like to call) accurate data. 20 is a nice even number, and a guarantee based on the law degree, child, and time in the military. Citing some decision made 5 years ago and reverting my edits like some bat out of hell is asinine (said it again🥳), when this is merely adding far more accurate data to a wiki (which is kinda the point). I'd appreciate it if you stopped edit warring, and i hope you have a nice day. Peace. --DankalorYT 21:10, July 20, 2020 (UTC)

By definition, I reverted nothing. Take that as you will. Secondly, its not supposition. Supposition is "an uncertain belief", while noting that the adult protagonist of Fallout 4 is older than 10 years old is fact. Older than 18 is fact as well, now that I mention it. Removing the age is essentially sabotaging the bloody page. You're cutting out factual additions to the cumulative age, and quite illogically so. Again, we're a wiki, and we should be putting our data up in a means that is as accurate as possible to the data originally presented. The characters are anywhere from roughly 25-40, and so that is data that is roughly 25-40 points off the proper number. Bringing that up 18 whole points, while still being 100% correct, gives us far more accurate information, while being nowhere near speculative. Again, there is no way they could be younger than 18. --DankalorYT 21:56, July 20, 2020 (UTC)
Dont know what youre getting at, but thats false. You can account for 228 years objectively. 18 is the guaranteed minimum, and still lowballing immensely. You cannot be a soldier or a lawyer without being 18.--DankalorYT 22:11, July 20, 2020 (UTC)
Its getting old? No offense, but I dont care. And it is 100% directly observable (Law Degree, Nate being in the military) and citable (You've never been able to get a degree without a highschool education, which is over at age 17-18, the youngest you can be drafted or enlisted into the war is 17-18. Plus a child, who was conceived in the fall of 2076, plus they've been married for "years", see MQDadVoice.txt/MQ#MQ101. Do the math.) And fine, if 18 is too much for you, lets drop it to 10. They have to be older than 10. --DankalorYT 22:29, July 20, 2020 (UTC)
No it doesnt, it simply says that, with no offense to you as a person, i dont care that its getting old. And again, i've directly cited two numbers from the game itself (shauns age, "years"), as well as citations of external proofs, such as both military service and a high school diploma requiring you to be 18. Let alone actually serving, and actually getting your law degree, plus a one year old child, plus years of marriage. Even if they got married at the age that they legally first could (18), they'd have at to be at least 20 to have years of marriage. I seriously dont know how this is still an issue. --DankalorYT 22:41, July 20, 2020 (UTC)

I think we don't need to bother with unused redirects, they only need to be deleted if they complicate search results or if we are making way for a brand new page. Thank you, I appreciate keeping an eye out. I do agree with preventing deliberate linking through redirects, that is a good point. My only concern is that today the redirect may not be used, but it could catch accidental instances in the future. Better safe than sorry, I always say. However, you bring up lag and cycling of pages, which I don't know anything about (and didn't take into account). I will see what the adminfolk have to say about it and get myself educated :) -Kate (Kdarrow (talk) 19:28, July 25, 2020 (UTC))

Regarding the .45 Auto redirectsEdit

I'm going to leave the redirect pages up for now, but I ask that everyone involved assume good faith and not revert any edits, including the addition of deletion tags. I would recommend that this situation be sorted out on a relevant talk page, and possibly involve a bureaucrat's opinion on those redirect pages. AllYourFavorites! (talk) 21:55, July 25, 2020 (UTC)

Disambig pages are supposed to be orphaned (have no pages link to them), so I don't see the problem there. We could see about giving those MSG files a minor place on pages, maybe in the infobox, or under some header, or in a table (on a separate page) somewhere. The Russian wiki has that for Fallout 2 files. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 20:33, July 28, 2020 (UTC)

People are literally flat-out making things up without evidence and even going so far as to ignore the words of the developers THEMSELVES yet this is somehow allowed? Whoever keeps claiming that the Legion "took over" Bullhead City is engaging in SPECULATION, CONJECTURE AND HEARSAY UNOPPOSED while also going against the words of the DEVELOPERS THEMSELVES without any kind of pushback. Surely there should be far higher standards than this? --TheChonChon (talk) 5:31, August 28, 2020 (UTC)

Tank Killer Edit

A note about Fallout 76 weaponsEdit

Hello! Thank you for the help sorting out the Tank Killer information on the Assault Rifle and Handmade pages. I wanted to let you know that several others and myself have started a project to standardize the appearance of weapons for Fallout 76. Because the Fallout 76 damage formula does factor armor penetration when determining final damage, and damage with Tank Killer is higher than without, I have listed Tank Killer as a damage perk. As far as the damage formula is concerned, increased armor penetration is identical to increased damage. Just wanted to let you know so that if you see it that way in articles in the future, it doesn't look as strange.--Intrepid359 (talk) 05:55, September 23, 2020 (UTC)

I understand where you're coming from, and that would normally be applicable. The challenging part we are dealing with is that in 76, damage is determined differently than in previous titles, which is why it is important to present the info in this way. With the very recent changes to the damage calculation for 76, we are trying to keep up on all the changes as they happen. I appreciate you keeping an eye out.--Intrepid359 (talk) 06:57, September 23, 2020 (UTC)

Regarding the war glaive page Edit

I saw that you removed the "behind the scenes" section on the war glaive page, claiming a violation of the weapon speculation policy. However, that's not an entirely accurate assessment of the situation. As Tag said, it's warranted BTS info that gives valid insight on the item's design. Note how the content never said the glaive was "definitely based on" the historical designs, instead using non-definite phrasing such as "visually identical," "resembles," and "is similar to." As such, it was more noting the similarities in design used during the development process.

A big part of the weapon guideline was to prevent users from arguing over the model of a gun, not the type. For example, claiming that the Chinese assault rifle was based on a specific real-word model (e.g. the AK-47 Type 3A), would violate said policy. However, noting that the weapons are automatic rifles would not violate that policy. Traditional melee and close-combat weapons have a far larger history than firearms, with a vaster assortment of classifications.

The BTS info was simply exemplifying the type of polearm design; it's like differentiating "glaive" vs. "pike" vs. "halberd." They may all be polearms, but are inherently different weapon types that are utilized, handled, and function differently. The Chinese weapon types may not be the "typical" European types that you're familiar with, but they are weapon classifications nonetheless. CamelChip (talk) 00:02, September 27, 2020 (UTC)

It's funny you mentioned that, since I'm currently writing a blog about it. If you want to know more, you can visit this link. 寧靜 Fox 15:26, September 30, 2020 (UTC)

Re: LayoutEdit

That's a fair point, makes sense when you explain it like that. Thanks for keepin me in line :) -kdarrow Pickman heart take her for a spin! 07:21, October 5, 2020 (UTC)

Re: BatchingEdit

Heya, thank you for pointing that out to me. I know personally how frustrating it is. It is a solid idea, though, because I didn't even think to teach it and it is a really important lesson. I definitely will from now on. -kdarrow Pickman heart take her for a spin! 17:56, October 5, 2020 (UTC)

Marked men Edit

Then why is there not an official marked men faction? the MM page says Lonesome road creature. Would you consider the lobotomites a faction? When does one draw the line between a type of humanoid enemy (which is what MMs are considered) to a full-blown organisation, with a founder/leader, divisions/parent, HQ, notable members etc?--Branebriar1930 (talk) 22:28, October 22, 2020 (UTC)

Its why on the Freeside page we don't list freeside thugs in the factions section of the infobox or smugglers on point lookout - they are a generic type of human enemy but are not part of an overall faction.--Branebriar1930 (talk) 22:37, October 22, 2020 (UTC)

I wouldn't try to use the game's code as a reliable source for discerning factions as can conflict with the lore. In fallout 4, synths, institute scientists, and AJ are all part of their own specific faction, according to the game code.--Branebriar1930 (talk) 22:42, October 22, 2020 (UTC)

Then by that logic surely the lobotomites are a faction? or the ghost people?--Branebriar1930 (talk) 22:44, October 22, 2020 (UTC)

Institute laser gunEdit

Yo I made an account so I'm not an anon but the institute laser has a base of 21 energy damage not 15, was confused why it looked so wack so I checked on FO4Edit (no changes to the base esm) and it is 21 including the one that X6-88 uses. Sorry for making change anonymously didn't think too much about it.--CelestialCyan0100 (talk) 21:15, October 25, 2020 (UTC)

Yeah, that change to 15 was very recent so guess the person had changed values in their game and not noticed. Best of luck and have a good one.--CelestialCyan0100 (talk) 21:54, October 25, 2020 (UTC)

Orris Edit

I went ahead and warned Crispy about their edit-warring, and gave them their options on how to move forward. If they continue edit-warring, please let me know and I'll handle it.

As a side-note, I've noticed a few times now that you've been removing Oxford commas. If you're removing them naturally as you edit normally, because you feel the article reads better without them, that's one thing. But do keep in mind that there is nothing wrong with using Oxford commas, and that they are allowed on this wiki. I wouldn't want to see our editors disparaged from using them just because another user personally doesn't like them. 寧靜 Fox 02:21, October 29, 2020 (UTC)

The general practice/consistency argument is not a valid reason to force one's own opinion over someone else's. Oxford commas are also not archaic, and are still considered mandatory in many aspects of today's society, including within academia (APA style). If their use is interrupting the flow of an article, then you are free to make changes naturally. But please do not arbitrarily remove them in the future. 寧靜 Fox 03:04, October 29, 2020 (UTC)
I'm still referring to APA style since that extends to academic writings including encyclopedias, and is considered 100% mandatory at this current time at most professional institutions. I'm not sure why you're wanting to place more priority on a style suited for newspapers rather than academic writings, and even then, in AP style, the Oxford comma is still used (just not required). Might be worth having a larger discussion over at some point, but as it currently stands, their use is fully allowed on this wiki so long as they're used properly. 寧靜 Fox 03:20, October 29, 2020 (UTC)
We write using the encyclopedic/reference library standard, which is tailored towards academic writings and the APA style. You seem to have a misconceived notion of the differences between the two styles, as AP style is for writing mediums such as through the press and independent journalists. Hm. Might be something worth me writing a few guides over, especially since the APA style was used to form a good portion of our existing rules. 寧靜 Fox 03:42, October 29, 2020 (UTC)
