Hello there. I likely would have left it if I knew you made the change. I am ok with this, as long as we also stay consistent, avoiding saying "in Fallout 3..." which essentially serves the same purpose. I began using the icons instead of the page breaks for Van Buren information at first and kept doing so out of habit, but am not opposed to removing them. Either way seems fine to me. -Kdarrow (talk) 20:46, July 7, 2020 (UTC)

That makes sense to me, and is a good rule of thumb that I will go by from now on. Thank you for explaining it to me from that perspective, it is helpful. -(Kdarrow (talk) 21:01, July 7, 2020 (UTC))

R.E. Kellogg's age

Again, thats just unnecessary and convoluded. We dont know the biological age of over half of them, and for Kellogg especially, he aged conciously, and was alive and doing stuff for his entire. Using chronologically just makes no sense at all. Age is age, regardless of how they aged, or if it was even visible. Making the already painfully obvious distinction that "these people didnt age normally" just doesnt make sense. It could maybe be justifiable if we knew of some actual ages pre-augmentation, but even then, it would be something like (32 - pre cryostasis) and 230. The one that'd need differentiation would be the first one, not their actual age of 230.

Not to mention the fact that "chronologically" isnt even the right word to use. "in a way that follows the order in which events or records occurred." That doesnt apply to these characters at all. If youre using it interchangeably for "the amount of time that has passed, not the amount of time they've been concious", its not correct. --DankalorYT 13:59, July 10, 2020 (UTC)

Yeah, i'll do a bit of reworking for stuff like the Cabots. Obviously, for the characters that have both ages, we should make the distinction for one of them, but i'd still stick with their age pre-augment, not post. Thanks for understanding. --DankalorYT 14:08, July 10, 2020 (UTC)

R.E. U.S. Army

One, as AYF pointed out, the U.S. Army still exists, and continues to recruit enlistees to this day (See Camp McClintock). Second, even if it didn't exist, they still serve under it, and are still members. If you blow up the Institute in Fallout 4, the synths that appear at military checkpoints are still members of the Institute, no? MODUS is still a member of the Enclave, no? Unless they actively leave the group, the disestablishment of the group doesn't mean they suddenly aren't members. They can still serve and operate on a smaller scale, just like they actually are doing. --DankalorYT 00:53, July 28, 2020 (UTC)

Yeah, McClintock is a pretty clear example of (small scale) re-emergence of the Army. The automated training and Gutsy officers still run through soldiers, so i'd say that qualifies it as existing in some shape and form. And while it's debatable, Fields, Thompson and Radcliff make it pretty clear that they are carrying on the Army way, regardless of the state of the establishment or high brass. Unless the Army is officially disbanded, or they stop considering themselves to be US Army soldiers, any small pockets that continue to "serve" would still probably count as active Army. They're just functioning on a far smaller scale. --DankalorYT 01:34, July 28, 2020 (UTC)

I don't think Anders and Anderson are the same person, although I thought that at first as well. Anderson is from the 1990s, and Emogene talks about Anders in 2077 as if she's unfamiliar with him. Even if Anderson got access to the Cabots' immortality, I wouldn't think Emogene would phrase it as "He seems competent enough." AllYourFavorites! (talk) 00:11, August 2, 2020 (UTC)

Condensers Down

Hi. Not sure why you are reverting my factually correct edits about this quest? The behaviour is significantly different when the settlement is allied vs not allied. By the way a lot of the detail in Detailed Walkthrough should probably be in the notes. But that's how I found it. Flare gun

The Flare Gun is available at vendors. But ok you want proof. How about you revert to my edits apart from that issue? I was about to amend the point about the Minutemen staying around, that only happens at settlements. According to the existing reference. Spikezarkspike (talk) 20:04, August 11, 2020 (UTC)

Ok I reinstated two non controversial things you reverted (one amended). I will look for proof about buying the flare gun itself and I take your point to ensure it wasn't inadvertently sold to the vendor first. Spikezarkspike (talk) 23:30, August 11, 2020 (UTC)

Flare gun part 2

Sorry my client just can't work with the editor for these Talk pages. So new message. I reverted your levelling Undo and explained why. As the PC levels the summoned Minutemen get high end Settler gear which just means highly modded pipe weapons as opposed to basic pipe weapons you would see at level 1. On the unique thing - on the one hand you want to preserve the claim this is a unique and irreplaceable item. Fair enough, but in that case it then makes sense to warn players that it is not a quest item and therefore can be inadvertently lost. Remembering that new and inexperienced players are as important or even more important an audience for this wikias experienced players.Spikezarkspike (talk) 12:36, August 12, 2020 (UTC)

Insulting Other Users

Howdy, how's tricks?

I couldn't help but noticing your interactions with DustDevil88. Looked like the two of you were flinging some insults back and forth. Do not do that. I expect users of this wiki to adhere to the User conduct guideline and behave accordingly. That means don't insult other editors, don't be rude and if you feel that you're involved in a conflict with another user get an admin or bureaucrat involved to mediate it if needed.

A similar message will be left on DustDevil88's page.

Frank Horrigan

Figured I'd go ahead and leave you a message over your recent changes on the Frank disamb:

From a storytelling perspective, Horrigan is not the primary antagonist, as that role would be extended to the president, along with the tertiary antagonists, Bird and Curling. A deuteragonist role is given to the second most important character in the story, whether from an antagonist of protagonist seat, which Horrigan fits perfectly.

Him being the end-game boss doesn't make him the primary antagonist though, as ultimately, he is just a foot soldier and secondary antagonist for the Enclave. 寧靜 Fox.png 11:06, August 21, 2020 (UTC)

I'll have to go over those articles as well, then - there's a lot of stuff that has managed to slip through the cracks, unfortunately. If you have an argument for Horrigan being the primary antagonist, then definitely let me know and we can discuss it. Otherwise, I'll change it back in a bit. Happy editing. 寧靜 Fox.png 11:24, August 21, 2020 (UTC)
The thing is, the Enclave are the game's big baddies, and the entire experience leads up to a final confrontation with them. Since Horrigan is a part of the faction, there's a chain of command that ends up deciding who the big bad is, and who their stooges are. There might not be a grand fight sequence with the president himself, but really, Horrigan is just a soldier, a dumb fanatical soldier at that, and had no part in kickstarting the events of Fallout 2.
It's tempting to consider Curling as the secondary antagonist since he's behind the "Final Solution," but Horrigan has enough of a direct presence in the game to take on that mantel instead. 寧靜 Fox.png 12:32, August 21, 2020 (UTC)
That's quite a bit different, though. Autumn isn't just some dumb super mutant; he's a highly intelligent officer who has the respect of everyone within Raven Rock. He's the primary antagonist, as Eden is shown to have never been the one truly in charge during the events of Fallout 3, with its goals being independent of the Enclave's true goals and wishes. Autumn is the one in charge, calling the shots, and representing everything that the Capital Wasteland branch of the Enclave stands for. 寧靜 Fox.png 12:47, August 21, 2020 (UTC)

--Bart Mick (talk) 00:26, August 29, 2020 (UTC)
It's not fan art, it's a legitimate Fallout loading screen. It was vaguely familiar to me and discussion with other editors onn Discord lead to the same familiarity. It does, however, need a proper name and licensing, etc. - Sigmund Fraud Talk Contributions 00:38, August 29, 2020 (UTC)

Question regarding my adding links to "Courier Stash" Icons.

Hello Branebriar1930,

Sorry if my edit was incorrect on the "Armor and Clothing" page, I'm rather new here. I just wanted to know why the links I added for the two "Couriers Stash" icons were incorrect.

The armor items "Lightweight leather armor" and "Lightweight metal armor" are the only items on the Armor and Clothing page with "add-on" icons that don't have links. The reason I linked them to the sub pages of "Couriers Stash" (pages "Caravan Pack" and "Mercenary Pack" respectively) is because the other two armor items from the same add-on ("Armored Vault 13 jumpsuit" and "Tribal raiding armor") also have links to the sub pages "Classic Pack" and "Tribal Pack".

Maybe it would be best if the "Couriers Stash" icons on that page all linked to the "Courier's Stash" page, as they do on the Weapons page.

Many Thanks, EH6607 (talk) 01:29, August 29, 2020 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply. Yes I agree, I think it would best if the Courier's Stash icons on that page linked to the Courier's Stash page instead of the individual packs. That's exactly what they do on the weapons page and I think that would make more sense. Would it be ok for me to edit those icon links on the Armor and Clothing page so they link to the Courier's Stash page instead? Thanks, EH6607 (talk) 17:03, August 29, 2020 (UTC)

Bunker Hill merchants

Hi. Thanks for reducing my (and others') lengthy comments to a much more concise form. That is a powerful talent you have for brevity (that I lack!).

I was wondering why you removed this content though:

  • Whichever of the travelling merchants is currently present at Bunker Hill is determined (consistently and predictably) based on the in-game calendar day of the week, each time the player character enters the cell.

That information is not elsewhere in the Wiki and is quite useful. I will shortly be expanding it to state which merchants are there on which day - even more useful. Conceivably it is an idea to create a separate article on the Bunker Hill merchants but for now the main Bunker Hill article is where general information on them (as a group rather than individually) "lives". Spikezarkspike (talk) 09:41, September 14, 2020 (UTC)

Actually on second thoughts please leave that deleted. I'll add something when I'm confident and have a complete picture on the travelling merchant schedule. Spikezarkspike (talk) 12:03, September 14, 2020 (UTC)
To your question, some of the individual merchants have speculation about their itineraries but it's not consistent and a lot if it is just plain demonstrably wrong.Spikezarkspike (talk) 12:07, September 14, 2020 (UTC)
Of the 4 individual Bunker Hill travelling merchant articles, 2 have a schedule, 1 has an itinerary, 1 has nothing. The 2 schedules are incorrect. All 4 of the articles are organised differently. It seems to me that the general characteristics of the travelling merchants should go in a section of the Bunker Hill article or the Merchants article. Then the detailed itineraries and (if determined) the detailed schedules of the merchants would go in their own individual articles. However I'm not now optimistic that there is any regular schedule, as 2 of the 4 merchant articles claim. I believe the schedule is actually either random, or so easily disturbed by the player's actions as to be effectively random.Spikezarkspike (talk) 13:29, September 14, 2020 (UTC)
As you say, the more I look at it the more random the pattern appears in Bunker Hill anyway. My feeling is that the itinerary (where they visit) can be stated with confidence, but the schedule (when they visit) cannot. So I'm minded to edit out the schedule aspects and conform the 4 travelling merchant articles so that they all have an itinerary. Make sense? Spikezarkspike (talk) 19:06, September 14, 2020 (UTC)

Hey Brane, sorry for the delay, I asked the rest of the FOW team and it seems I got turned around. In general, you just have to follow the procedure outlined here:

Line breaks

Is there any particular reason why you're removing my line breaks? There's a reason why I added them, and I can discuss it further if necessary. But I would appreciate you not going behind me and basically reverting me with no explanation. 寧靜 Fox.png 12:56, September 30, 2020 (UTC)

They're not a mistake - in general, you shouldn't make assumptions like that, and instead, reach out to the other editor and make an inquiry.
And yeah, I've had this discussion with other editors as well, as they were confused with my additions as well. They're not a mistake, though; the line breaks are, in essence, comparable to splitting up walls of text into paragraphs for readability. It's the same concept you'll see in code dumps where each <tag> is given a line break for readability and macro use. 寧靜 Fox.png 13:41, September 30, 2020 (UTC)
The opposite is true - if you look at any code dump, the universal format is that there are line breaks after the usage of <br> for macro purposes. I would also like to remind you that you weren't just maintaining what you call the status quo (which isn't true), you were reverting me because you assumed that I was making a mistake. 寧靜 Fox.png 14:00, September 30, 2020 (UTC)
Yeah, we (I) have discussed this issue before with Leon. These spaces preceding of following <br /> are pointless in my opinion. All the pages are without these spaces, it is good like it is. If Leon reads this, please discuss it for consensus in Discord with the other admins, I don't feel like a long discussion myself. Jspoel Speech Jspoel.png 14:15, September 30, 2020 (UTC)
I have a lot on my plate, so chances are I'll put that conversation on the back burner for now. In the future, though, especially since you're running for CoMod, it's still good to keep in mind that if you see an edit you don't quite understand, it's considered good practice to open a dialogue first and not to immediately revert without even an edit summary. 寧靜 Fox.png 14:54, September 30, 2020 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── What I am describing can be easily verified by looking up the standard format of data dumps used by every coder everywhere. You are arguing from the stance of a layman, which is already greatly concerning from where I'm standing.

Furthermore, there are no policies or even guidelines that forbid or advise against my usage of line breaks. To be perfectly frank, your argument goes against the very spirit of a wiki, as you are essentially telling me how I can and cannot edit based off an opinion that you have already admitted to being uninformed.

This is ultimately a minor matter, and not one that I'm going to start a huge fuss over. When I have the time, I'll see about having a proper discussion on the matter - but in the meantime, if you're looking to gain additional rights here, then something you need to understand is that this wiki is a collaborative project, and there are going to be perspectives that you neither understand or agree with. But blatantly reverting someone with no explanation, and then doubling down, is going to reflect badly on you as an editor, and I hope that's something that you'll come to realize. 寧靜 Fox.png 15:55, September 30, 2020 (UTC)

Comod 101

Oh! And here is a brief guide to content moderator tools that I wrote up. Ok, it is not so brief, but it might be helpful. I hope you enjoy the ease of all the new tools. I know I did/do. Congrats again! -kdarrow Pickman heart.png take her for a spin! 18:49, October 3, 2020 (UTC)

I can’t think of anyone more deserving of this honor than you. --Godzillafan4ever (talk) 19:41, October 3, 2020 (UTC)

The Sig-Sauer pistol isn't real and the Chimera pistol is clearly using the Sig-Sauer pistol as a platform based on visual similarity alone. This was a conversation that happened when New Vegas came out for the Plasma Defender as well, but it was ruled to be the same based on its near-exact visual appearance despite no lore or dialogue confirmation. It's currently in PTS and I've only seen a small clip of it, but it was clear from the clip they're near exactly the same. And it also wouldn't be 76's first time bringing back a classic weapon, so likely continuing trend for future releases. Devastating DaveZIP ZAP RAP 16:55, October 4, 2020 (UTC)

Brotherhood Launcher

Had I done so under notes, which I did, yes, it was against policy. However, since I said it only "bore resemblance" to the weapon in question, rather than saying it *was* said weapon, not to mention putting the BTS tag over it, would exclude it from policy, as it acknowledges that A. It's not that weapon, and simply looks similar to it, and B. Is unverified by developer sources, which it is. JCB2077 (talk) 01:08, October 5, 2020 (UTC)

While I won't argue speculation, people are going to make the distinguishing factors no matter what. They claim the Service Rifle is an M16 despite dev confirmation that it's an AR-10/15 hybrid, not to mention what people will add when they feel it's in need of adding. They're not going to care that the official name of the Brotherhood Launcher is stamped right on the side as Launcher Rocket 4 Barrel 66MM, they're going to care that it looks almost exactly like a Rocket Launcher from the Post-WW2 era. It's not in my or the wiki's say as to what it does or doesn't resemble, but people are going to speculate or want to no matter what, might as well get it out of the way before 20 anonymous IPs go on to add it. JCB2077 (talk) 01:36, October 5, 2020 (UTC)
Nevermind, I'm an idiot. It confirms it's related to the M202 right on the side, I'll upload the image. JCB2077 (talk) 01:41, October 5, 2020 (UTC)

User launcher missile barrel.jpg

This is the modified 6 barreled version, but it says right there, M220 Launcher 2.

Protection of page

Hi Brane, I wanted to let you know I updated the protection of the page SIG-Sauer pistol. I saw you protected it, but edits were still being made so I looked into it. Looks like the second option box was filled out, so it was only protected from being moved instead of edited. I think you meant the first option, so I changed it. Let me know if I can help with a visual. Oh, and forgive me if I am wrong! -kdarrow Pickman heart.png take her for a spin! 05:46, October 5, 2020 (UTC)

Totally fine, I mean - the boxes are literally identical :) I know what it is like editing into the wee hours of the morning, believe me! -kdarrow Pickman heart.png take her for a spin! 13:55, October 5, 2020 (UTC)

R.E. BS Launcher

Im not. The gun itself has a label denoting it as a missile launcher, and i think that takes precedence over its actual gameplay mechanics. Besides, it has a targeting modification, exactly like the missile launcher.

--DankalorYT 13:32, October 5, 2020 (UTC)

Its the same deal as the missile launcher. Functions like a rocket launcher standard, is called a missile launcher by name elsewhere. I think it should be consistent with the missile launcher, but since Shin calls it a rocket launcher, whatever, it should be treated as such. Carry on. --DankalorYT 13:38, October 5, 2020 (UTC)
