A page for beginners

Ausir, can we get a page for first time players, one that has hints and tips specifically for people starting out for the first time. The page has one, and its really awsome. thanksTehuberleetmaster 05:08, 3 June 2009 (UTC)

Couple of pages for clean up

Hey ausir (or anyone else), can you help clean up the fire resistance and barrels pages please? They need pictures, and other informationTehuberleetmaster 20:49, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

I'm beginning to work on FO:BOS articles, and the first idea is to dedicate to Texas radroach it's own page. The creature in the game don't fly (at least in Chapter One) and don't resemble a roach at all, so I think it should be called bug and being placed in separate article. BUT... maybe is there is any proof that this critters are called roaches by devs or even somewhere in-game?

More renamings PART 2

Auditor General -> "Caldriss Hemlock" Brad -> "Brad Stadler" Jacob (ghoul) -> "Jacob Young" No-one Smith -> "Andrew "No-one" Smith" Jesse (raider) -> "Jesse Gomer" Daisy -> "Daisy-May Gomer" Bo -> "Bo Duffy" Luke (raider) -> "Luke Daniels"

More renamings

Sorry, I don't understand how to place a "move" marker, so... Please rename pages Super mutant commander to "Thelma" and Mutant scientist to "Erkal". I began to study the game's files and found many usable info there... Master Mold 20:47, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

About the Pictures...

Ausir, do you know where to find Fallout Tactics character portraits (the ones used in-game)? I'm going to search the data files, but maybe you could give advice on how to do this faster.Master Mold 20:43, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

A BarreTT problem

Ausir, could you please: 1) Delete the page named "Casey BarreT". I have already created the page of this character and her surname has double T in the end (BarreTT). 2) Change the name of the page "Stephen Barret" to "Stephen BarreTT". Master Mold 12:55, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

Paladin Solo

Hmm.. just wrote about this in St. Louis... though I don't have a proof, I believe she\he is male, as the voice in the game is male. I don't think it is the power armor that changes the voice so much. The name Emerald also didn't appear anywhere in actual game. I believe it's a mistake... perhaps devs wanted to make him a female, but later changes their mind, as in power armor characters all look the same... what do you think? "Templates," grammar in uneditable page, broken tables

Greetings, Ausir! I hope you can help this technical writer make some sense of the following!

 • There seem to be no established "templates" dealing with the sections an article should contain. For example, I've learned (in the few days I've been here) that most articles, in addition to the obligatory title area containing a short description, contain a "notes" section, a "bugs" section, and a "trivia" section. This has remained reasonably consistent (sometimes there are no bugs, or trivia) throughout most of the articles here. However, many of the other articles differ greatly, in exposition of the same information, from creature to creature, location to location, quest to quest, et cetera et ad nauseam. I'd like to know if there are some "official" suggestions / templates.
 • The "Help:The Vault" page contains a grammatical error that I noticed in scanning (I do not have access to edit the page). From the final bullet in section "Formatting:" "Start with a single descriptive sentence that sites [sic] the article's title (in bold). " "Sites" is a plural noun; the verb the author intends is "cites."
 • Some infoboxes are broken; at least, they appear that way. The example in "The Vault:Templates" looks fine; note the header area is "whole." Look at the infobox in the article on Megaton though; the title area is broken by a line that should only be reserved for the table beneath the screenshot. What causes this? More importantly, how can I fix it when I see it?

Also, I apologize for not checking the guidelines earlier; I just did what came naturally. I'll be sure to adhere to them more strictly in the future.

EDIT: Thanks a lot for your (very prompt) reply!

Ignore bullet 3 for the time being; I was seeing this all yesterday and today, but for some reason now can't get it to reproduce. Regarding the templates, I'll do some browsing in my free time and propose something in a talk page. Any suggestions on how to increase its visibility? I'd like to get the opinions of the most competent and active editors on this site.

Thanks again for your help!! --Oferphuxake 22:44, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

I'm glad you bring up bullet #2. I've noticed this while editing as well. Most item pages seem to have a description and locations where they can be found. Some have the "Appearances" section, while many do not. In my opinion, most of the articles on this Wikia should have an Appearances section to help users and readers differentiate items, locations and characters which appear in the different Fallout games. I'm wondering how everyone else sees this. --The Incendiary

Seeing the strange "line" in the infoboxes again (see Megaton). Using Opera Version 9.64, Build 10487 under Vista 32-bit. I uploaded a screenshot 1. Note that the errant line matches with the table below the screenshot. Eff me, I didn't leave a sig --Oferphuxake 02:37, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

Morning, Ausir! When you have a moment, could you check out our page on Micro Forté? I de-stubbed it and added a company logo...but I want you to make sure it's all legal. As far as I can tell, it's fair-use, but before someone gets in trouble, can you confirm that everything is on the up-and-up?

Thanks! -Vaultbuilder 15:20, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

They're on the way to Haven (Ashur's Palace). It's nothing out in your face saying "HEY! We're abandoned over here, check us out!", but you obviously didn't explore all of the Pitt if you didn't find them. --Esscex 06:12, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

Hey, Ausir. I know I'm only one of thousands of people asking questions or leaving a comment here, but I'll ask a quick question anyway. The new, or fairly new "badges" seem to be stuck on a certain number of edits. I believe the number sticks to whatever number of edits you'd made when you first added the badge. An example is on my page, I have made more than that many, but it refuses to update. Do you know of this? And if so, is there a way to update the number that the badge shows? Thanks. --Vicious Dog alive.jpg Five Dog (talk) 19:52, 28 March 2009 (UTC)

 • Did you try to check the checkbox that says "Overwrite exising Badge"? ----The Incendiary 04:36, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, It doesn't update it on my user page. -- Vicious Dog alive.jpg Five Dog (talk) 14:10, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
Only other option I could think of is to edit the page and remove the Badge, save it, then edit it again and add it back in. Maybe by some miracle that will work. I've had some problems with mine updating in the past too, but that seemed to be only in the first couple days after I added it to my user page. --The Incendiary 18:29, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
No, still didn't work. :( Thanks anyway. -- Vicious Dog alive.jpg Five Dog (talk) 19:17, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
Oh wait, one more option. There problem might be with your browser's cache. Check the note at the bottom of your preferences page : "Note: After saving, you have to bypass your browser's cache to see the changes..." There's info about how to clear the cache for most browsers. That's about all I've got. --The Incendiary 01:16, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

The Vault Navigation Bar

Hey Ausir. Wasn't sure who to tell about this, but the link to Fallout 2 armor is broken on the main page nav bar. It's linking to a page that I put a request in to delete earlier, Fallout 2 armor and clothing, when I think it should be linking to Fallout 2 armor and clothing. Look here and here. And since I'm already here, you might want to ban this IP as well. Removed about half, or more, of the Fallout 1 article.

Enclave transaction

Well, I haven't played FO1/FO2. I only saw that there were 2 articles about the same quest, one empty and the other decent, so I redirected the empty one to the decent one ;) By the way, I think quite a few "quests" from FO1/FO2 could be consolidated. For example, Cornelius has lost his gold pocket watch. Find it and return it to him and Farrel wants you to find Cornelius's gold pocket watch. Find it and return it to Farrel is basically the same thing, just with different quest givers and recipients, isn't it?

Regarding the typo, I only corrected it in the template so it'd link to the page directly instead of the redirect, I wasn't the one who moved the article. I guess we should keep the ingame typos for quest titles (but state in the article that the wrong spelling is derived from the game and not our fault) and redirect the corrected version to the original one. Would be consistent with how we handle items etc which we also list with their original, misspelt names. -- Porter21 (talk) 09:52, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

A Little Help

I know I'm a loser for playing it on the PS3, but my copy of Fallout 3 is behaving unlike any piece of software I've ever heard of, and not in a good way. It started out perfectly fine, but I've noticed some bad things happening. Slow framerate, freezing, poor physics that weren't there before, numerous graphical glitches, that kind of thing. I haven't been able to find any reference to this phenomenon anywhere, including on the wiki. And all my other games work perfectly, so it's not my console. So I ask you, do you have any ideas? Have you heard of anyone else having this problem? 22:12, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

Time to stop

You seem to be the main admin of this site, although the lack of useful activity makes it difficult to determine that. Sorry but your wiki is too poor to be worth trying to save. Why don't you admit defeat and hand Fallout3 to Daveh and the UESP crowd, because they actually know how to run a wiki?

You don't keep inaccurate content off the site, often leaving unchecked information around for ever. Don't you have some kind of patroller system?

You are unable to determine what is a proper bug versus what is a one off problem. Most of your pages are littered with "in my game" type comments that should be deleted or moved to a talk page.

You have no proper system of organization. Why are there collective pages for things like Raider armor but then individual pages for most other items? Why are there individual pages at all? Look at Potato Crisps. It's already more detailed than anybody will ever find useful, but is still marked as a stub. How can that ever change?

You have pages for items with absolutely no relevance to anybody. Why would anybody read Test tube holder or Vault 101 Ceiling Alarm? Do you really want to allow a public expression of somebody's Obsessive Compulsive Disorder on this site? Given the number of editors who criticized the editor that created that page, it seems odd that you didn't support them. In fact, I see you defended that editor. Seriously - you need to learn how to filter out irrelevant crap.

Your site design is awful. The graphics are just bad and the fonts used in infoboxes are chosen poorly. Given that you use capital letters for hex numbers, your choice of fonts and sizes for ref/baseids is idiotic. There's almost no visible difference between 8 and B, for instance. See Stockholm and tell me if you honestly don't need to move your head closer to your monitor to work out what his refid is?

In short, please stop. This is a good game and your piss-poor wiki is dragging it down. It appears that others agree with me too. 19:26, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

I doubt your effort will be worth batshit, first off THIS ISNT A FALLOUT 3 WIKI! its a natural fallout wiki, and no matter hoiw many people agree with you, your effort is still in vain Werewolfhell 19:32, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
When you learn to spell, form basic sentences and use correct spacing I'll take you seriously. Until then, I wasn't talking to you. I said Fallout 3 and I meant Fallout 3. I don't care what this site decides to do with 1 and 2. I'm saying that for accurate documentation of FO3, you should leave it to the experts.
So, when will you be closing down the Fallout 3 sections of this site? Sooner the better, please. 20:14, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
Would you please just Shut the fuck up. Nobody on this wiki gives a damn about your opinions. If you can offer helpful things for this wiki, THEN we will take you seriously. Fat Man Spoon 20:20, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
Again, if I wanted the opinions of idiots, I'd have posted straight to your talk page. Since I posted on Ausir's talk page, I'd ask that you fuck right off and wait for him to respond. I'm not interested in whatever liquid shit dribbles from your mouth as you strain to put two keystrokes together, and neither is anybody else. The fact that people like you inhabit this miserable excuse for a wiki is reason enough to shut it down. 22:10, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

IF you run a wiki like that then we have a reason to not let you have control over anything in this wiki Werewolfhell 13:29, 10 May 2009 (UTC)

First of all, I won't be "handing the wiki over" to anyone. Although of course if any UESP users are willing to help improve it, they are welcome to do so. If their edits are good, they can become admins as well. I'm also open to constructive criticism, but your criticism, telling me to shut down the wiki, is hardly constructive. And Daveh is not actually interested in starting a Fallout wiki himself.

If you see any inaccurate content on the site, please point it out on the talk page, use the problem report function or simply fix it yourself. Every wiki tends to have some inaccurate information, and every wiki has room for improvement, and it is constantly being improved. I do move the "in my game" type comments to talk pages or remove them when I find them, but I also don't patrol all the changes to all Fallout 3 articles myself, being personally more interested in previous Fallout games.

Sure, some pages marked as stubs are not stubs and can't really be improved any further, and some should be merged. But why not actually contribute instead of complaining about it? Also, while we do have articles on items/world objects that have no gameplay relevance, some of them do have interesting lore tidbits, and even having the ones that don't is of no harm. I don't think they needed to be created, but once they were, there's no point in deleting them either.

As for graphics, what's so awful about them? As for the design of templates, etc., you're welcome to express your constructive criticism.

As others said, this is not a Fallout 3 wiki, this is a Fallout wiki, about the series and universe as a whole. If you don't like it, you're free to start one for Fallout 3 only yourself or offer constructive criticism on how to change it, but whining to shut it down won't accomplish anything. Didn't notice it said "2" as part of FOBOS due to the ip address. I simply saw a signed, poorly written stub refering to [what i thought was] FOBOS in the past tense. --DragonJTSLeave me a message 15:29, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

Featured articles

Since we now have a full 366-day-rotation, I've made a list of all featured articles at The Vault:Articles of the day. This should help with seeing where some spacing out is needed and which featured articles are prime candidates for replacement (e.g. the ones which are used multiple times currently). -- Porter21 (talk) 16:29, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

News on a 4º DLC ~Point Lock~

Peter Hines gave an interview to OXM. Link: Master Hero PT 18:18, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, you're right. But at least he said that's not completely impossible due to the other DLCs success. Sorry if I wasted your time. Master Hero PT 20:43, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

Outcasts Locations

Do we honestly need to list their locations as they can be at random places on the map as well? It seems rather pointless to list the locations of anything other than loot or fixed spawn points. Thanks Kingclyde 17:38, 11 May 2009 (UTC)kingclyde

It's the same with the Super mutant overlord page. Most of the locations mentioned are just where supermutants can be found. Fat Man Spoon 23:06, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

Bug sections

I was reviewing bugs and alot of them do not say what platform nor do they state a date they were confirmed (ie pre or post patch number x). I added (unconfirmed) for bugs that are indeed that and have no real proof. I will review them in 2 weeks or so. If they haven't been modified I would like to remove them. If indeed those bugs have been fixed, most likely noone will repost them. Let me know what you think. Kingclyde 09:24, 18 May 2009 (UTC)kingclyde

im not sure

what are the red and green numbers in parentheses after articles on, for example, the recent changes page.--ASL93ratjar 23:03, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

green pages added, red pages removedKingclyde 23:06, 18 May 2009 (UTC)kingclyde

Alright, thanks!--ASL93ratjar 23:07, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

DLC disambiguation

Well, I did it this way because of two things I've noticed with articles related to The Pitt:

 1. The DLC page is going to be linked a lot more and having to do The Pitt instead of simply The Pitt got annoying after a while.
 2. Most people will simply link to the non-disambiguated page anyway, resulting in a lot of wrong links.

That said, I was thinking about giving both pages a disambiguated title (Title (DLC) and Title (location/vehicle)) and place a disambig page at the original title. This would at least address the second point (not the first naturally). Anyway, I can see your point as well and don't really mind which way they're disambiguated, I'll leave it up to you. -- Porter21 (talk) 18:31, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

Alright, all (non-user-page) links should be updated now. By the way, I just noticed that Point Lookout (add-on) produces Point Lookout... It's always the small things you only notice far too late :P -- Porter21 (talk) 20:59, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

Callahan's Magnum

You were the first author for that page with a name, so I figured I throw you a note. The BaseID for the object isn't 00b806 as reported, but 300b806. Thanks. 17:45, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

Stuff I was doing

Before I left in febuary I was talking with ashrandom (who no longer appears to exist), we were discussing my going through all the different infomation types starting with characters and creating one uniform template for them. The initional plan looked something like this:

 • Game Story Any info pertaining to the game's story, personality, family, etc.
 • Game Information Info concerning characters involvment in quests, alternate locations, special items, etc.
 • Bug Information
 • Inventory And that's a good header, Inventory, I'd have liked to see it further up, but I suppose the end works (actually, I would have liked it in the template)
 • Extra Info Quotes, triva, videos, basicly, anything non-game related

and then making sure their categories were correct. He never got back to me on if we were going to go ahead with it, and I noticed you deleted his page, so I figured I'd come to you about it.

Template:FO3 creature stats‎‎

I've noticed you created Template:Creature stats gamebryo. Wouldn't it be easier to simply add the fields to Template:Infobox creature? The main reason why there's a seperate stats template for the older games is that there are simply too many fields to integrate them; however, the FO3 creatures only need about 7 additional fields (SPECIAL, Level, HP, XP, combat skill, attack damage, special damage) and it'll likely be the same at least for FNV creatures. -- Porter21 (talk) 05:34, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

Hey Ausir

I've been readng a lot of wiki tutorials lately, and a website I'm a moderator at is launching it's wiki soon. I'm the administrator there, and we're still very early in setting the site up. When I want to look at a perfect example of a wiki, I come to the Vault. I was just wondering if you had any pointers you could give me. Any tips or help you could give me is appreciated. Thanks in advance. TunnelSnake 00:23, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

Would you mind deleting 50caldu.gif I uploaded? I got confused which .50 cal ammo image we needed and now we have a duplicate image. Wasn't sure how to mark an image for deletion, so figured I'd bother you. : P Mr. Sully 03:03, 23 May 2009 (UTC)

Mirelurk King Via Giant Catfish

Hmm, I added the "maybe" because of: "Artists' notes mention that the Mirelurk Kings may have mutated from snapping turtles native to local rivers." - from the article on the Mirelurk King, it says "may have mutated" in that article, and as there is no in game proof of them being snapping turtle mutations, it seems like it's very much a maybe (either that, or the Mirelurk King article needs rewording to show that it is 100% sure they are snapping turtles?). We have a few administrators that haven't been active since 2007... Isn't that too long of a period of inactivity to keep them administrators? I mean if they haven't done anything in 2 years why let them be administrators? Could you see if you could get that fixed. ZachMan 18:51, 24 May 2009 (UTC)

Jason Voorhees

LOL thanks for deleting my Jason Voorhees page. No actually I'm serious. I don't know why I wrote it. I guess I got carried away. Anyway, I apologies, and I hope I don't get blocked or anything.

Fallout 3 proposed bugs?

Had a user move all of the stuff from the "Fallout 3 bugs/Proposed" article to "Fallout 3 bugs/proposed archive". Not sure what to do there.Kingclyde 18:52, 26 May 2009 (UTC)kingclyde

Rescue from Paradise

It appears the walkthrough has expanded into a detailed clusterflock that needs to be fixed. Should I move it to discussion because it contains alot of different tactics. I can either move it or thin it down. Let me know what you think.Kingclyde 20:19, 29 May 2009 (UTC)kingclyde

character race

currently we have the character info box listing race as human, ghoul etc. MadCat added Hispanic to Amata's because it says so in the GECK. I don't have a clue how to use that but in my opinion I think it should stay as simple as human. Otherwise we would have alot of editing to do. Just a little to much info I think, but what do you think?--Kingclyde 04:18, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

Should we create a new line on the info box in addition to race? That way we can put Hispanic, African American etc. under race but have another box for human, ghoul etc. Or maybe sub-race or something. Just some sort of separation? --Kingclyde 17:13, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

Bugs on PC

Should be make it where people should put their OS down as well when they submit a PC bug? There are 3 Microsoft OS'es now that people are using. Thanks--Kingclyde 20:33, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

 • I have noticed the difference between all 3 OS'es. Vista has bugs that XP and 7 doesn't. I have a nerdy triple boot system. Yes nerdy. Anywho I'll see what I can do for that/--Kingclyde 20:41, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

As you already noticed, I deleted that template. I didn't see much use in it; it was adding the articles to the same category as the general image template anyway. Maybe we should rather have a general Upcoming template (with its own category) to save us inserting both the image and incomplete templates in every article for upcoming content and to make sure the articles are checked when the content is released? -- Porter21 (talk) 22:57, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

Yes, master. That Furry Bastard 06:40, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

Fallout 3 downloadable content rename?

Fine with me. I can have the bot change the links to the DLC page, we'll have to update plain text references to "downloadable content" manually though. Btw, we should think of a different title for Navbox add-ons FO3 then, having a line break in the title doesn't look all that great in my opinion. -- Porter21 (talk) 06:53, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

The bot is done with the links to the Fallout 3 downloadable content page and its redirects. Some links are still present because of old template versions present in the page cache, but those should vanish eventually. I've also updated all the templates I could think of. -- Porter21 (talk) 10:18, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
Didn't see your message about the bot changing both "DLCs" and "DLC" to "add-on" until now. Hope it didn't do too much damage, I noticed it myself later on and tried to avoid having it do that afterwards. -- Porter21 (talk) 10:35, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
