RE: Challenge with sliders

Hi Agent c!

It's been a long time indeed! I've played around with a few solution to fix your problem, and I think I have a working solution. You can view an example of it on this page.

As you can see, to circumvent the slider loading before the parser functions are actually executed, I've made use of the #tag parser function. To create a list of the images for each day, I've added a variable called date which holds the images associated with the date, which are then added in the #tag parser function.

This should let you have a unique slider of every day. Let me know if you have any questions or if this doesn't work for you. Mark@fandom (talk) 03:24, August 9, 2016 (UTC)

Re: Advanced fun with sliders

I left you a message on your forum thread that may be simpler than Mark's suggestion. Don't worry, I don't think you're a total newb. I put the references in for all the other people who stumble onto your thread looking for help, hopefully it will help them figure out what all the code means. If you reply here, make sure to tag one of my walls (I don't typically follow user talk pages). -- Vandraedha talk contribs 05:14, August 9, 2016 (UTC)

Game App badge

Hi, Agent c!

I've been asked to let you know that Wikia has to temporarily remove the game app badge from the main page for about a week, at which point I'm told it will return. It's evidently interfering with something (ad, maybe?). Someone should be along later today to handle that ;)

Best regards,

Raylan13@fandom (talk) 17:19, August 9, 2016 (UTC)

Let me pass that along, and I'll let you know as soon as I get an answer back ;) Raylan13@fandom (talk) 17:27, August 9, 2016 (UTC)
It doesn't look like it will be an issue. Now I've been told different lol. With more info, looks like it's a branding conflict with the ad that's going to be run. Feel free to slap me, if you'd like. Raylan13@fandom (talk) 17:36, August 9, 2016 (UTC)

Yo, Chad, I've noticed some Fallout 4 pages that were in dire need of completion. If it is okay with you, I would like to edit each junk material pages with, "*Said junk* can currently be used as ammo for the Junk Jet or aesthetic decoration" This will be under the 'Charactistics' section for each Fallout 4 junk page. I thought they were missing this, and I would love to hear your thoughts on this.

RE: Ticker

Hi Chad - The issue with the ticker should be fixable using the following CSS (which should go into MediaWiki:Common.css):

#ticker .CategoryTreeSection, #ticker .CategoryTreeItem {
     display: inline;
}

Let me know if that fixes the issue. Mark@fandom (talk) 00:39, August 12, 2016 (UTC)

That seems to be an issue on the JavaScript side of things - I think your best bet there is to contact the original author of the script, who may be able to fix that issue. Mark@fandom (talk) 23:08, August 12, 2016 (UTC)
I figured I'd have a look at the code myself, and I managed to track down the issue and fix it. The ticker should work in Chrome/Safari now. Mark@fandom (talk) 23:53, August 12, 2016 (UTC)

I dunno. Does it have to be so big? Can't it be a little less wide and tall? Leea (talk) 11:38, August 18, 2016 (UTC)

The logo, mostly. Smaller would be better. Maybe you can also change the color? It could be a similar green that the rest of the wiki uses.Leea (talk) 11:37, August 20, 2016 (UTC)

Interactive Maps

Hello!

I am posting this message since you have quite a few real-world maps created using the Wikia Maps feature. As you may know, the Wikia Maps extension is no longer actively supported.

Recently real-world maps stopped displaying properly (example) and very soon we’ll be running a script to remove those from all article pages, and eventually delete the maps altogether from the database.

I have enabled the MediaWiki Maps extension on this community, which is more well-suited to create real world maps. You can read about how the extension works at Help:Maps and get started creating maps at Special:MapEditor.

Please let us know if you have questions about this Maps extension. Thanks! Ducksoup (talk) 20:22, August 29, 2016 (UTC)

VDSG

Quick question for ya. I've noticed with all the pages on our wiki, we don't have one for the VDSG. What would you think if I created a page or section that listed all those little tips and tidbits that pop up on the game's load screens? I mean, we have everything from full weapon descriptions to lore to terminal entries. What's your opinion? StormRider71 (talk) 06:26, August 31, 2016 (UTC)

Inncorrect Variants information on Leather Armor (Fallout 4) page

Hey Agent C, quick question. Each weapon and armor has a section called Variants on their respective pages. The Variants section is supposed to list Unique armors and weapons correct? I was looking at the Leather armor (Fallout 4) page and the Variants section, instead of listing the Unique Leather armor pieces, which there are, it instead describes how armor mods change the look of leather armor pieces, which didn't seem right to me. I checked the Combat armor (Fallout 4) page and it has Unique armor pieces listed under the variants section. With your permission, I'll go ahead and change the info on the Leather armor page.Ryker6100:17, September 7, 2016 (UTC)4:47pm 9/6/2016

Re: (mobile) front page

Thanks for getting back to me on this! Your plan to revamp the desktop front page sounds great, and there's nothing wrong with saving work on the mobile main page for after that's finished.

The only thing I'd like to point out is that all mobile users and app users don't see the regular front page at all, they only see the mobile main page. That's a considerable chunk of your visitors. Right now, with no featured content curated, there's just a big empty space at the top that takes up a third of the screen in the app.

I know you've been doing great work with Discussions, but I don't know if you use the app too? If not, I'd be happy to show you a screenshot so you can see this for yourself. On mobile web, the space set aside for featured content is just omitted, so you won't see it there.

Either way, it wouldn't cost much time to add links to some of your top articles there, probably just a minute. You'd probably spark the interest of a lot more casual visitors if there was something good there, keeping them on the Fallout Wiki for longer, and showing them something cool without them having to navigate through the categories first. You could change what's in your featured content at any time, too, so you wouldn't have to worry too much about finding the absolute perfect content right away.

Tl;dr: There's a big empty space in the apps where featured content should be, and I propose putting something there now. You can always change and improve it later, but having just nothing there is a missed opportunity.

What do you think? (As a side note: I played Fallout 3 and used the awesome content on the wiki myself via the app to find all of the bobbleheads. It was great, and so I have a personal interest in making the mobile main page as helpful and appealing to visitors as possible) Mira Laime @fandom  (help forum | blog) 12:20, September 21, 2016 (UTC)

jspoel

Hi Chad. I've talked to you on chat before, though under the name Aiken. You may or may not remember me.

I'm probably pissing into the wind here, but I don't see any other choice.

Does anyone at all oversee jspoel's edits and undoes? I swear to god, there's a 50/50 chance on any edit I make that he'll just flat-out undo it. I'm not an idiot, either. I make an effort to make accurate, well-worded, well-considered edits. I take time to think things through, compare what I'm doing with other similar pages or items of a similar nature, to follow existing formatting, and so on. I even ask for and take constructive criticism.

Whereas jspoel just edits pages every two to three minutes in a wild rush to pad his edit count, often doing nothing at all except to delete a single space or a blank line, like that's even meaningful when wikia already compresses those on display. And he almost never writes edit summaries either. Because, of course, writing "deleting 1 space because I'm anal about things people can't even see" might not look good. And I'M the one with my edits being undone.

I'm thoroughly fed up and discouraged from making any contributions at all here, and I'm someone who stands up for myself and sticks to my guns. What about all the contributors who can't handle conflict? How many people has this BS turned away from contributing? FFS, I have spent 5,200 hours (yes, five thousand, two hundred hours) PLAYING this game. Why alienate a resource like me? I don't ****ing get it. Felice Enellen (talk) 16:30, December 29, 2016 (UTC)

I sincerely apologize for any inconvinience, but Friday isn't something I can change for the foreseeable future.

My time on Saturday and Sunday is almost entirely filled with managing the server that I admin, but I can easily make time to cook up a few images for the polls, being as Photoshop work makes up a good chunk of my server admin work anyways.

COPPA

About the thing I sent you over Steam, I got a reply from Wikia:

Peace'n Hugs,

We don't ask local communities to enforce this aspect of Fandom's Terms of Use (http://www.wikia.com/Terms_of_Use), since COPPA is something that applies between the company and its users (not the admins of the wiki).

We prefer that incidents of users claiming to be underaged are reported to us, since blocking them from the local wiki does not actually remove their personal info from our servers. Merely locally blocking them doesn't actually do anything with regards to COPPA compliance, since the information about the underaged user is still in our system. The protocols we enact are specifically designed to meet the requirements of the law, and are not available to local admins.

That said, we do not allow those under 13 years of age regardless of parental permission.

Best,

You might have noticed that I didn't put the green headlines on the blog and had to use the standard black lettering. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get them working. It kept putting up a link: "To read more, and comment, click here". That kinda throws off the layout of the page seeing that I need to put the image below it. Could you perhaps explain a bit about how to just put the green headlines? I feel this is tied to the Live New Portal as it doesn't update, it still shows the last blog.

Thanks for the help in getting the captions set up again. I don't think the first one was too bad. Kind of short on caption comments but that can't be helped I suppose. I'm going to make this feature a fortnightly occurrence just to give people enough time if there are any last minute entries. I've spoken with Peace already about this matter and neither of us are sure where things stand regarding The mod mentioned here. It seems a little murky as to if this mod falls into the realms of piracy/paid for content for free. The user themselves appears very well in his intentions and has most likely taken the creator in good faith that the content is above board. He has agreed not to use said mod again for the purposes of the wiki.

From a wiki standpoint where do we stand with the content he has already uploaded as it has not been necessarily obtained through the correct channels, although the content is fully available to us through them via multiple other users. Sakaratte (talk) 23:12, March 22, 2017 (UTC)

Can you remove the Nukapedian of the Year award and Shelter Update 1.8 from the Special:WikiActivity list? You've made it complicated, I can't figure it out myself on a short term. Maybe you can make some sort of shorthand guide for adding/removing various news items. Also, you can then add JackiBackiBoy's request to it, and activate the community messages alert. Featured Wiki Videos

Hey Agent c. A few months ago we talked to you on Community Council about Wiki Modernization and how we're using featured wiki videos to reduce the number of ads on the site and improve the performance of all Fandom wikis.

As we move forward we plan to expand our video production with many communities, including Fallout Wiki. If you are interested in which video types we might use you can find some great examples in this blog post. We don't have any specific plans for Fallout right now but, if and when we do, we may reach out to you, other admins, and users to be involved in writing video scripts or being part of the production process.

Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks! - Brandon Rhea@fandom(talk) 18:44, May 12, 2017 (UTC)

Feel the need to interject here. The videos they add to pages are huge and are placed right at the top of the articles they appear on. Pretty much an eyesore. Great Mara (talk) 03:46, May 13, 2017 (UTC)
The size and placement is based on testing we did using five different sizes and placements. Some test versions were smaller than what we have now—some were next to the infobox, below the introduction section, and in the right rail—while some were even bigger than what we have now, taking up the entire width of the page. We tested how visitors engaged with each one and found that the current player is what people responded to the most and enjoyed watching videos on. Given that it was the most successful one, that's what we determined would allow us to get the most value out of the pre-roll advertisements to clean up the rest of the page. - Brandon Rhea@fandom(talk) 14:54, May 13, 2017 (UTC)
Also, I just read Forum:Video and want to clarify one thing. We are no longer in the initial testing phase (which is what you and I first discussed a few months ago). The tests we ran were very successful so we have moved into the stage where we are informing communities that we may be producing videos in the future. If we do, we will be adding the videos to the relevant page, so it's not something that would be voted on. However, we would still love to have the community involved in writing and, if anyone has the skills, even producing Fallout videos. - Brandon Rhea@fandom(talk) 14:57, May 13, 2017 (UTC)
If we produce videos for Fallout, they would not be opt out. But we want to ensure that any videos that we do produce meet Fallout Wiki's standards. We don't want to produce anything that the community feels is not up to par. Which is why we're collaborating with communities on scripts and even on production, which is a key part of our evolving video process. - Brandon Rhea@fandom(talk) 15:04, May 13, 2017 (UTC)

Patroller

If possible I would like the opportunity to be a Patroller. Lately I have been focused on checking bugs, that won't change. I've helped a few admins/patrollers fact check information regarding various bugs, as well as helped with the Settlement Object Project (albeit adding in tidbits of information), and reverted edits that are against the wiki policies, usually by vandals. I always fact check, normally in depth, before I make a change to anything.

I've been active for the past 119 days, and counting, made 275 edits to articles, and verified or removed at least 100 bugs (if not more, I lost track).

Although I'm not super confident in my abilities, I have learned a lot in the past year of having my own profile and coming off of Anon. There is only room for improvement on my part.

My main focus has been and always will be to help make the wiki a better place for all to enjoy. Rebel427 (talk) 21:35, May 15, 2017 (UTC)

Nav menu

We've got some changes coming to the masthead soon. I was looking at our navmenu and I don't like the inconsistencies between the fo3/fnv menus and the fo4 menus. Also, the last (7th) level 2 fo4 menu don't show on all resolutions, including mobile. I think we should move things around to the same order for the fo3 and fnv menus. That would require moving creatures and robots into the same menu with characters. You can see this here. The only problem is I don't like characters as the main level 2 heading. I can't think of a good substitute that covers characters, creatures and robots, and we also have the problem of nothing suitable for that to link to, as there's no parent category for characters, creatures and robots. I'm open to ideas, but we can only have 6 level 2 menus at most. Ideas? The Gunny  UserGunny chevrons 23:31, June 6, 2017 (UTC)

Nuka Jam

I've just applied a 3 day block for this edit. New Mainpage Slider

I do have one suggestion for the daily article category of the new slider.

Right now, the "Featured Article" section contains a seemingly random article chosen for that particular day.

I have no issue with that staying the way it is, but the issue is, making that idea also appear on our 4th slide seems like it's just a copy of the daily featured article.

As a result, I suggest something closer to what one sees on Wikipedia: for our fourth slide, we could instead have a timeline-based calendar of featured articles.

I can make a full list of daily articles later, but here's a brief list.

January 10: Battle of Anchorage, which ended in a U.S. victory on January 10, 2077.

February 11: Patriot's Cookbook, which was officially banned and all existing copies ordered to be incinerated on February 11, 2069.

April 14: M.A.R.Go.T., which first entered service on April 14, 2065.

May 1: Nuka-World, which first opened its gates on May 1, 2050.

June 3: Canada, which was fully annexed to the U.S. starting on June 3, 2072.

July 26: United Nations, which was officially disbanded on July 26, 2052.

October 20: Nuka-Cola Quantum, created on October 20, 2076.

October 23: Great War, taking place in two brief hours of the morning on October 23, 2077. NomadMC (talk) 02:37, August 12, 2017 (UTC)

That helps clarify, although I still suggest we should theme them by date. I was discussing this earlier in chat with Saka, and she supports the idea as well. NomadMC (talk) 11:40, August 12, 2017 (UTC)

Min-Maxer

Do you mind taking a look at what has been said at this stage and decide if the issue should be dropped? When we made it clear we wanted discussion on talk pages the only response he gave on his talk page is that he would be mindful about what he puts in his bio. It doesn't ease my concerns because of things he has said to me in private, which raised red flags to me a while ago. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 22:44, August 13, 2017 (UTC)

The block I've been looking at

Final response from Kate is she isn't too fussed if the block gets overturned. My personal view is it should have been for mini-modding, not soliciting as it's too murky for the latter.

The only thing I might have done is reduce the penalty to a week (both previous blocks were 7 days). I also checked with Rusty and he can't think of a why he didn't over turn it when it was brought up to him at the time. As a while I'm comfortable with a block being imposed, so I'll leave it to your discretion as to if it's too stale and if you wish for my recommendation to be implimentated re time scale. Personally I'm inclined to let stand as this is someone trying to shorten/eliminate wait time on a rights vote, this wouldn't have been an issue if not for a reason to get it struck to reach a goal. Hey Chad. Thanks for the info and petition link. I definately signed it. I saw the videos yesterday but didn't comment because the words I would have used at the time would have probably got me banned for life ;P

I understand that abandoning this wiki would be a last resort type action and I would be loathe to do so as well, but wouldn't hesitate if it came down to it. Just something to keep on the back burner...I used to do some editing on the UESP Wiki (http://en.uesp.net/wiki/Main_Page) and those guys seem to have their shit together over there. The few ads they do have are small and not an eyesore, and their "bosses" seem to leave them pretty much alone. If we could find out the finer details of that operation, then a sister Fallout Wiki to their Elder Scrolls one might be welcomed. As I said, just something to keep on the back burner. Besides, I do have a lot of work on other wikis that do need some "expert" attention, so to speak. Another thing is that in less than a month, I'll return to the college to study further, limiting more free time than I currently have.

Still, I'll go and vote about this. Saw those videos, and I am not quite impressed. ☢ Energy X ☣ 10:03, September 8, 2017 (UTC)

I wouldn't agree with what you're planning with the frontpage. You're putting the community section Join Us above the article content. It clearly needs to be the other way around. We are an encyclopedia first. I'm also considering getting rid of the sliders if they would stay the way they are. For years we've had the same few slides. You're giving the community section to big a place in my opinion. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 23:32, September 8, 2017 (UTC)

The Contents section move up to below the game logos. And Join Us should be pushed down to below Contents. All links related to content needs to be reachable and visible as good as possible. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 23:40, September 8, 2017 (UTC)
Maybe you can also try adding links (or buttons) to the Discussions and Chat in the Wikiportal/HeaderNew template. We can still do more with the Join Us section I think. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 23:48, September 8, 2017 (UTC)

Wikifamous Fallout stories

About the time fallout 4 dropped i did not have much interest because I was a big battlefield and assassins creed guy who would play call of duty occasionally. A whole bunch of my friends were talking about it and I got a little interested but I did not own a next generation console so I asked them what game would be a good start and they said Fallout New Vegas.

At that time I knew nothing about the game not even the period it was set. But I went out a few days later and picked up fallout new vegas for PS3. As expected I was horrible at it and got killed by nightkin twenty times in the repconn test center because I only had a varmint rifle. But I kept playing it and got fairly decent learned all the good loot and what weapons were good also getting the math down on the stats.

I continued playing and just fell in love with the game I loved all the different choices you could make and the hours of gameplay that gave infinite possibilities in the story. A month later I bought fallout 3 and although it was not as good as fnv I loved it nonetheless and since then I have considered myself a fallout fan. Ghilliesuitman

First Fallout Experience

Well, you see, it all started with Fallout 3, many many years ago. Anyway, so the cirvex dilates and I pop out! Mom is dead, shit, that sucks. Suddenly I’m a year old in a vault, and daddy (who has a very particular set of skills!) makes me read a book, pick a bunch of stats. Thinking these most likely aren’t important in the long run, I make my strength and intelligence high, and make a low luck and low perception. Anyway, like 3 seconds later I’m 10 years old, this old guy sticks a computer on my arm, a robot destroys my birthday cake, I get a BB gun and I shoot this giant disgusting cock. Suddenly I’m like sixteen or something and I take a test, and it says I’m meant to be a Chaplin or something. I walk out and suddenly I’m 19, and this girl I talked to like 3 times my entire life tells me my dad left the vault, and half of everyone got killed by the giant cocks. I go through the vault, murder a bunch of security guards with no choice of sparing them, open a giant wheel and walk out. Then I shoot more of them giant cocks, pop some raiders and walk into a town. Some cowboys welcome me and warn me about the fat man in the middle of town. Shit, they were actually talking about a bomb, look at that. Anyway, I find some drugs, eat them and snort them, and I disarm the big bomb. Some guy wanted me to blow up the bomb, but me and that sheriff feller went to arrest him. As we’re arresting him, he stands up and pops the sheriff. Suddenly I’m back at the door, and the sheriff is alive again! Strange world, right? Anyway, instinct tells me to pop this guy before he shoots the sheriff (I must be the deputy or something) and I do! His head rolls like halfway across the room. Even though he never even tried to shoot the sheriff, the sheriff thanks me for saving his life. Anyway, after he left, I remembered that I was supposed be looking for my father. So this Irish guy tells me he went east, and off into the wasteland I go. --The Courier NCR for life (talk) 20:52, September 27, 2017 (UTC)

Here's mine: As a young kid, I played many kinds or paper and pen role playing games. D&D, Top Secret, Traveler, Champions, In the Labyrinth. As I aged, and computers became a thing, I saw the early attempts to create computer based rpgs and was less than impressed. Nothing seemed to replicate the feel of paper and pen games for me. I did get into playing all kinds of computer games, flight sims, first person shooters, etc, but didn't like the few rpgs I tried. Fast forward to one day I walked into my oldest son's room to see what he was playing on his xbox. I was used to seeing him play fpsers. I watch him play a game for a while, shooting and killing big green guys and wondered what this game was. I asked and was told Fallout 3. Hm. First person shooter? Nope, rpg. Yeah, right. Where's the dialog? All I see is you killing stuff. So he showed me some dialog. I don't remember where, probably at Megaton. I was like, huh. This looks way different that the top down isometric turn based games I've seen. How does the game handle your character stats and skills? He showed me a bit of it. I wasn't really sold.
But one day soon, I drifted into his bedroom and fired up a save of his. I'm sure now that I completely screwed up his save, but I played a bit. Enough to decide to start a new game of my own. I was wowed. Playing in the first person felt so much like the shooters I was used to, but there were all the old school rpg mechanics I missed from the tabletop games. Character skill, progression, leveling, everything. I enjoyed it so much I bought it for my gaming rig and haven't looked back since. Games for Windows Live is dead now, so I have no idea how many hours I spent on FO3, but it was probably over 1000. I'm a bit of a completionist, so I did everything I possibly could in the game, experienced everything the devs put in. And did it again. And again. Role playing different characters each time, just like we developed characters in PnP games. The rest is history. I've put thousands of hours into playing and modding every other Fallout game I could get my hands on, even though I could never get out of the tutorial in 2. I really prefer the first person games, it feel like I'm playing my character and recreates the feeling of immersion that I used to get rolling dice, drinking beer and talking in funny accents around a big table with weirdos with beards. The Gunny  UserGunny chevrons 23:56, September 27, 2017 (UTC)
I started playing Fallout 3 long ago, in 2013, fell in love with the series since then. First time i entered the menu, that awesome song and the Capitol Post articles made me thrilled even before i started playing. Sure i didn't uderstood a thing of what they were saying, i knew my mother was dead, my Father was a cool guy and Butch was a asshole, the Brotherhood was good and the Enclave was bad (their officials are dressed like the Empire in Star Was, after all). The Lone Wanderer is one of the few characters in gaming that you grow up with since birth, his personality, morals, choices are all definied by the player, that's probably why he's one of my favorite protagonists of all time, a little mix of Vault Dweller with Mad Max (depending how you play it, he can even be Vic from A Boy And His Dog, with the dark humour and a f*cked up mind) i played the hole main story without fully understading it, i loved anyways. A few months later i bought a copy of Fallout: New Vegas, my english was a little bit better, so i could read the dialogs properly (that probably should count as my first REAL Fallout experience), i loved the game (and the Courier, the biggest badass in the wastes), the story and the background information in the game made me more and more interested with the lore, so i went to Nukapedia and read the hole timeline, so i decided to translate the hole damn thing, but, like the Storyteller says: "that's a story for another day". I started playing Fallout 3 And it was just a blast But I was so confused How everything looked like it was from the past.

I started a new game Just to see my chatacter's mom die It was sad But yet I didn't even cry

When my character turned 10 He got his 1st Pip Boy It looked and felt cool Unlike that Fallout 4 plastic toy

Few years later, he took the G.O.A.T. And man, was that boring You get to take a test on a game? Even I started snoring

But uh oh! Vault 101 started a civil war That was interesting And I wanted more!

Jonah died by the Overseer And that made me mad But I didn't kill him Because that would have made Amata sad

I escaped that Vault for the wasteland And that was intense The land was so gorgeous And very, VERY immense

I did a bunch of main quests Just to find my dad I gained a bunch of of Karma Because I didn't want to be bad

Then I went to another Vault Gaurded by some kids It led to an objective So I had ro bid

In the vault, there was a bunch of super mutants That wanted to kill me But I started overcome that So they can let me be

That's when I met Fawkes My favorite Fallout companion He's tied with Nick Valentine And its weird that they were both abandond

He retrieved the G.E.C.K. for me And then I was grateful He was so nice He could not be hateful

But then I was captured By the evil Enclave Sworn enemies of the Brotherhood I wish it was the Republic of Dave

President Eden talked to me And gave some kind of F.E.V. To turn everybody into mutants But that would be mean

I escaped Raven Rock And blew all of it up It was a sight to see Even for Dogmeat's pup

I saw Fawkes standing outside Firing his gatling laser He was so awesome Even more than Darth Vader

The Brotherhood and I Started to fight back Thats when Liberty Prime Used his laser beam attack

The final face-off; Colonel Autumn and I I just shot him once Then he died

I activated the Purifier And full-filled my dad's dream Man, I miss him But we worked as a team

Fallout 3 was a great game And it changed my style I couldnt wait for Fallout 4 But that would be a while

You should go buy Fallout 3 It would give you a lot of great times You can also get the dlc Only for A LOT of dimes.

My First Fallout Experience

Due to recommendations from friends I decided to get a nice crisp copy of Fallout 4. I download the game which took a while due to my McDonald's like wifi connection. As I get a loading screen with a humorous cartoon figure shooting and failing to survive in the wasteland. This little figure I later learned was the Vault boy. With the combination of the loading screen showing some sort of battle suit of armor in a long abandoned garage with the dramatic theme in the background.

I start a save and I'm greeted with a man standing in front of the mirror. At this point I give him plastic surgery until he's to my liking. A grizzly man with a scruffy beard but high and tight haircut who looks like he eats shotgun shells for breakfast. Thus Pedro Washington becomes once more in another series. I begin the actual game and I have a loving family which is almost immediately ripped away from me with a single tv announcement. I watch helplessly as my wife is killed and my son is stolen and I suddenly realize I'm about to be a futuristic Clint Eastwood. I endure through the cutscene and I'm own my way to concord with my robot butler.

I get there and start through the town and I'm suddenly taking damage left, right, and center by people were couch parts and waving around tire irons. Just like Clint Eastwood huh? I make my way through a museum where I learn 3 grade history curriculum. I met by a soon hated friend of Preston Garvey. I regret to follow instructions of grabbing the power armor due to it being 3 pm. A terrifying dragon like beast launches out of the ground while I slowly shoot at it with a Gatling laser. I play a while longer until a moving piece of lunch meat rushes me taking at least twenty years of my life off. I decided at 4 am that I had played enough for now.

So much has changed since then. Those first few hours led me to actually becoming a active member of this here wiki where I met some people who I'd consider friends. I played the game until I actually was a nuclear Clint Eastwood. I beat the game siding with the Brotherhood due solely to the fact of Liberty Prime. Mods rolled out giving me new life to play the game. I've since started many me play throughs and fallout 3. So much has happened since crafting that grizzly man with a scruffy beard and a high and tight haircut and I've enjoyed it all.

My first Fallout experience

I first heard of the Fallout series in June 2008, when Bethesda was promoting the upcoming release of Fallout 3 at E3 that year. While I wasn’t really paying attention to the games being shown before it, I couldn’t help but be captivated by the footage of the Lone Wanderer walking through post-apocalyptic D.C. and using the V.A.T.S. system to fight super mutants. I was pretty much sold immeadiately and first visited the Fallout Wiki that very same night, as an anonymous user, so I could learn more about the series. My fascination continued to grow as I learned of the various skills, mutants, and the timeline of the series.

Now sadly, I was dirt poor at this time, so I couldn’t afford to actually buy Fallout 3 when it originally released. I had to make due at first by going to my local Barnes & Noble and reading the strategy guide (without buying that either). I honestly have to admit, I was rather in love with the style and iconography of the strategy guide. Instead of sating my curiosity, it only made me want to buy the game even more and it was difficult to resist reading the details of the main questline.

And then, on December 24th, 2008, it finally happened: my girlfriend gave me a copy of Fallout 3 for Christmas. I almost immeadiately ditched her and went home to play it and the game totally blew me away. The art style, the vast exploration, the gameplay, entering Megaton for the first time, the crazy characters, and, oh my god, the side quests. I spent the majority of winter break playing the game and I totally forgot to write an economics paper because I was too busy fighting off the Enclave. It’s an experience that few games have been able to replicate and Fallout 3 is still probably second on my list of most played games, although Fallout 4 is starting to catch up. First Fallout experience

I can see now I'm writing this a bit late, but I never noticed anything until AGC posted the blog. Guess I should read other people's talkpage messages more in Recent Activity.

Anyhow...

My first Fallout experience began a couple years back, shortly after Fallout 4 was released. With PS4s becoming standard, one of my dad's office friends offered to sell his old "fat PS3" - the one that was pretty bulky and had a super loud fan, but had the advantage of being compatible with PS1 and 2 games. So my dad bought it for Christmas, and I enjoyed the collection of PS1 through 3 games that my dad's friend sold with it.

A couple months later, my dad was looking through Redbox weekly offers - this was back when Redbox still handed out free rental coupons regularly (sadly, they don't do it much anymore - they still do a lot of "half off" coupons, but not really any free offers). He had obtained an e-coupon for a free videogame rental. Redbox had two PS3 games in stock at the time, both back due to the arrival of newer games. With Fallout 4 and the latest Hitman game having been released recently, Fallout 3 and the previous Hitman game were both available on Redbox to rent to "catch up" on the series.

So my dad offered me the choice of picking which game looked better to rent. Redbox didn't give many details aside from the cover art, so on a virtually random whim, I picked Fallout 3.

Upon starting Fallout 3, the intro really set the game in motion. "I Don't Want to Set the World on Fire" combined so well with the zoom-out, I just stared with my mouth open as the intro ran, detailing this incredible universe - I'm a big fan of alternate history or _____punk styles, so this retrofuturistic world was amazing to see. Once the intro and the beginning cutscenes ended and I started playing, I was also immediately interested in the graphics style - the green Pip-Boy text was very appealing. At the time, I had really only played computer games like Minecraft before, so I had little knowledge of how an RPG shooter worked. In fact, I didn't even know you could open a container and take out items. I barely knew how to fight, and even then I learned that from the Vault 101 shooting range.

So after getting a general idea what was going on with the storyline in Vault 101, I gradually made my way to the Vault exit. Along the way, I got killed by officers once or twice before learning where the Save button was - thankfully, Autosave kept me alive before I learned that.

I went through the Vault door - that looked really interesting, that giant gear-thing rolling out of place. A wooden door, I see, at the end of a small tunnel.

I open the door, and look out at the ruins of the D.C. outskirts. Dirt for miles in each direction, a red metal structure over there - a gas station?, a water tower there, some collapsed roads to my right.

I begin the walk to Megaton, and once I'm there, I get involved in a few quests with the sheriff - all this is very interesting, and I must know more; I open Chrome on my laptop and find this place they call "Nukapedia". The quantity of information, plus how well it's been organized for me to read - all this captivates me.

I continue my walk to go and find this guy named Three Dog, and never look back.

Savior of the Damned

Hi Agent C, I've been logging in and editing at least once, once a day for 268 days in a row, but somehow the count messed up and counted one of my edits as from a previous day, which nullified this badge. I've been sick, injured or even without power and I've still managed to log on. Now I know it's not a big deal to some, but I've put in the effort and I'm wondering why the counter was messed up and didn't count my edit for Oct 1st. I will likely not try for this a second time as the I've been very busy with personal things, but it is a little heartbreaking when it suddenly goes away even when I am certain that I edited something at the right time. Is there anything you can do about it, or is it gone forever? Rebel427 ~ I'll be your huckleberry 20:31, October 4, 2017 (UTC)

Discussions Editorial

Hey Chad! It's great to hear from you. I also have always felt we've had great and productive conversations. I hope we can add this one to the list.

I'm going to write this with the assumption that you read my reply to Saka from a bit earlier, and I will build on that a little. And I hope give some better context to what we're trying to do. Historically, Wikia communities have been the go-to place for in-depth knowledge. What we'd like to do is provide a more holistic experience to the fan. Not just the high-quality encyclopedic/reference material, but also conversations with other fans (i.e. Discussions), editorial content and news curated from around the web (fandom.com) and, yes, even short-form video. Essentially to be the one-stop shop.

With the fandom.com posts that link out to other sites, I understand why you think it's weird that we're sending viewers elsewhere. But the ultimate idea is building brand, retention and loyalty. They remember that they found everything they needed here, so even if they do end up somewhere else reading an article, next time they'll come back to the place they know has everything they are interested in.

We believe that the types of content can all help each other succeed. You've seen how Discussions added a new dimension to the Nukapedia community, for example. Visitors can arrive for whatever they were looking for -- knowledge, news or conversation -- and then discover the other things as well.

Regarding news, obviously you're ahead of the us on that front with what you're already doing. And we would very much like to work with you. Hopefully that was at least somewhat clear in the outreach we did here in August. Though I totally understand how that blog seemed really boilerplate, not acknowledging what you were already doing. It was part of casting a wide net to gauge interest across many communities in curating news feeds, but we could have tailored that much more to this specific audience. First steps and early explorations are not always graceful (as you have seen in other areas).

But the offer still stands and if you're open to seeing how we can work together on that, we are too. There will be lots of details to sort out but I think they would be fun conversations.

Regarding the current test with the editorial/news cross-posting in Discussions, as I said to Saka, we're trying to learn a little more about how users might want to interact with that stuff, which they can't do right now on fandom.com. If the community finds it disruptive, we can talk about how to help that, or just stop the test here altogether.

Hopefully that paints a more complete picture? Let me know if you have any questions, and how you might want to move forward. Thanks. -BertH @fandom (help forum | blog) 02:02, November 30, 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply from you and Saka. As you saw, I joined the Discord server based on your invitation and I look forward to talking there about possible collaborations. Regarding the editorial/discussions experiment, it seems best for us to discontinue that here so we'll be doing that this week. -BertH @fandom (help forum | blog) 16:13, December 5, 2017 (UTC)

Heyya Chad! Is me, WastedWarrior! Trying to get into the discord thing...i got an invite years back and i got in...now there's some new thingy asking to claim my account and it wants a password and i have no idea what it is and it's not giving me an option to recover it.

I see you and Nuka are still a thing. So very good to hear. Also nice to see you are running things.

I finally got a PS4, setting it up now...wanted to chat with folks...first game on the list is...I don't need to tell you.

Do you have time to help me with this idiot discord thing, please?

I now work nights, may be a better thing to chat with folks...all my people are asleep right now. I would love to catch up on things.

I guess i will monitor my talk page for your response.

Cheers!

Administrative action

I go to sleep and everything kicks off it seems.

As you may be aware, NCR Courier was banned from discord for 1 day for pasting images that hint at slurs. His reaction to this was to remove his bio, user profile and display image, then follow it up by banning himself for 60 years.

I've dropped the ban to 3 days, just for the misuse of tools in banning himself and removed his tools for a week alongside this. I get he is upset at being called a racist and for being banned, I can overlook the temper tantrum about it, but the self ban I cannot. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 07:04, December 2, 2017 (UTC)

Content Moderator

Hey Chad. I've been continuously active at the wiki for over 2 years now and have been a Patroller for almost as long. I just wanted to say that I'd like the chance to be promoted to Content Moderator. The only thing is that I can't find anything about making a request for it. IDK if it requires an application and community vote like most of the other positions, or if it can be granted by a Bureaucrat like the patroller position. I mentioned it to Saka awhile back and he did say I wouldn't need a sponser or anything. Either way, I'd love to have the tools to protect pages and such when the need arises. I can't tell you how many edit wars I've seen (though I bet you've seen more). What I can tell you is that if I had access to those tools, it would help prevent edit warring and keep pages protected until someone with more authority could block or ban said vandal(s). If you don't mind, let me know what I need to do as far as making an official request, if anything, and I'll make it happen. Thanks. StormRider71 (talk) 02:06, December 10, 2017 (UTC)

RE: Discord Investigation

  1. Yes.
  2. No.
  3. Yes, it's not the first time I've seen this type of behaviour either. He has enabled trolls and spamming in the past.
  4. I reckon moderator action would have been warranted should a user had incited unruly behaviour in others. Should have received a kick at the very least.
  5. Not in the least. If he had wanted to challenge Sakaratte's moderating methods he could have done so politely in the Security Desk channel.
  6. The outcome should be a formal warning, a review by other administrators and bureaucrats, and a proper assessment of Sigmund Freud's behaviour vis-à-vis his peers. I expect him to be as dismissive as the other instances where his behaviour was questioned.

Re: Discord Investigation

  1. Do you believe that Fraud’s finger posting encouraged Hades to post the emoji that got him banned? No, Hades would have done it anyway had he remembered the emoji existed.
  2. But for the actions of Fraud, do you believe Hades would have done what he did? No, he didn't remember the emoji existed and therefore wouldn't have sent it.
  3. Do you believe that Fraud’s actions were an attempt to undermine Saka’s authority? No, I believe it was a failed attempt at humour.
  4. If a non moderator had done what Fraud did, do you believe moderator action would have been appropriate? if so, what action would you have expected a moderator to have taken? If a non moderator had sent that emoji, moderator action would have been appropriate - maybe a warning to that user.
  5. Do you believe that Fraud’s actions meet the standards that you would expect from a Moderator on Nukapedia who was doing their job correctly? No, he encouraged trolling, even if he didn't realise it at the time.
  6. What do you believe the outcome of this investigation should be? Dismissed, he meant nothing by it.

Yodamort (talk) 21:26, December 18, 2017 (UTC)

Re: Discord

  1. The finger posting acted as a reminder that it existed.
  2. I can't be certain if he would have continued. Hades does get heated at times and gets carried away. I kick usually gives him time to cool off.
  3. Again, I'm unsure. Assuming good faith I would say it was a spur of the moment, knee jerk reaction to the situation at hand, rather than a genuine attempt to undermine.
  4. As the act resulted in a reminder a response to the other person, up to the same level would have been considered. The kick could have been avoided.
  5. I would expect a moderator to think before acting, which in this case I do not believed happened.
  6. I don't believe inaction is sufficient. The act itself potentially resulted in another user being kicked. Personally I wouldn't have gone beyond a warning on the matter. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 21:43, December 18, 2017 (UTC)

RE: Discord Investigation

  1. The intention was a joke stemming from Sakaratte's warning towards Hades. It was not meant to be directed at anyone, even.
  2. I did see the message.
  3. I did disagree with the action, but I did not intend the emoji to be seen as any sort of proof of the disagreement. I would not have and have not said anything about Sakaratte's moderation at the time of the incident, other than the fact that I disagree with its harshness.
  4. I do not believe that I did enable or encourage. He already said that he was going to post a picture of his middle finger anyways. Whether he meant the statement as a joke or not should extend to the joking nature of the emoji as well.
  5. I believe he could have sent a picture of his middle finger, but I still do not believe that I influenced his decision or not. It was not the action of me posting the emoji that caused him to post it (which I still believe should not have lead to a kick anyways), but the simple existence of the emoji prompted him to post it.
  6. I do not believe so, since the finger was not offered towards anyone.
  7. I have said before that I do not think action was necessary.
  8. "Appropriate action" is a sliding scale, not a simple yes or no question. My action might have erred on the side of unnecessary or tasteless, but not farther than that. As I told Sakaratte after Hades got kicked, I have always been the chaotic good sort of person in chat. If such actions still allowed me to become a chat moderator, I do not see why similar (or even more benign actions compared to some things I have done in the past) would lead to a reconfirmation or no confidence currently.
--Sigmund Fraud Talk Contributions 22:13, December 18, 2017 (UTC)

El Discord Investigation (see I know Spanish)

Most likely, I would not have pushed the situation more then enough to burn a little more anger, and would not have posted said image of my middle finger, as that would have meant fiddling with my camera, which I was in no mood to do. Had I attempted it, I probably would have smashed my iPad into three billion pieces in anger. But no, I wouldn't have dropped the conversation completely, but I wouldn't have posted the emoji. Sigmund's action reminded me it was there, and, seeing a solution to the aforementioned camera app fiddling and ipad smashing, I posted it. I think that Sig did not realize exactly how angry or clear thinking I was, and having possibly not read the conversation completely, attempted humor to ease everyone into a much less explosive state of mind. I believe that Sig has done nothing wrong, and any and all blame for the incident should fall on me. As I truly shouldn't have been on the iPad. GreatKnight Ban Unappeal 2

Hi so the gronds on which I am appealing is that I haven't done anything since I have left this server, all I want is to be part of this community.

As for accoutns my only account is GreatKnight2 I don't have any other accounts.

Drinking and Wiki-ing

Well this isn't normal for me, which is probably the biggest reason why you are disappointed. I fucked up on a couple messages. I deleted the one immediately where i fucked up the most. Even drunk me realized that was too far (a little late, yes).

My current personal problems may have influenced some of it but at the end of the day that doesn't matter as we all go through personal problems. I guess drunk me was pissed at women. I'm not sexist. And if your wife left because of that remark then let her know I was speaking out of anger from my current situation and I obviously do not think all women are that way.

Anyways, as for what to do, that is up to you, the other crats, and possibly the community. If you believe what I did was bad enough then raise a vote of confidence. If you believe I just messed up and life goes on this time then just leave it with a warning. There are a few ways you could go about this and I'll accept whatever happens.

This community is like a second family and when I get drunk I guess I just wanted to conversate with some of my wiki friends. Just crossed the line a time or two. I apologize. Jon the Don -JBour53 (Talk to my consigliere) 20:13, March 4, 2018 (UTC)

As for Spectacle Island... I agree; I wrestled with that one, but I'll leave its fate to the discretion of someone else, since it seems as if a debate has been sparked in chat since attention was brought to it. 寧靜 Fox 18:59, April 17, 2018 (UTC)

Just to be honest, that's probably not going to happen. It took Yessie and Al a long time to get me to just try out the old chat-room, and even after that I was never all that big of a presence. 寧靜 Fox 19:34, April 17, 2018 (UTC)

This forum was raised almost a week ago to tweak article guidelines so we could get companion reactions added into the layout guidelines with the hope of achieving a consensus rather than a vote. Can you take 5 minutes to cast your eye over and give your input? Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 14:33, May 12, 2018 (UTC)

Notable content

Hello, one of the requests that was made quite a while ago, was a review of the notable content template, to make it clearer there is hidden content. A new draft has now been created and is fully functional. Can you swing by, take a look and give you input as to suitability/changes? Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 07:07, May 23, 2018 (UTC)

Hello Mr. C

It's me, Rambling Hominid, from centuries and centuries ago. I just wanted to say. . . wow, so much has changed in the time I've been missing from the website, chat especially. I don't know if you or Boss Gunny are still digitally alive after all this time, but, I have to say, for that time back then? Thank you for having let me stick around. I've expanded into several communities myself now, even acting as newsman in one of them in the manner you once did and content creator in several. If you hadn't have let me stay in this community, I may have never had the confidence to do that. That's all I have for now, hope I see you and the old fellows around again someday, maybe on this newfangled Discord we apparently have now?

Sincerely R.H.

Not my fault

My message to Mara was about her not checking that she is restoring incorrect versions of an article. Another user has made a similar comment. Two times I have had to revert her just because she restored incorrect versions, first incorrect grammar in Yellow Trecnhcoat, then he broke a table in an article about Addiction.

He is accusing and abusing me, but I don't understand why he thinks his reverts are okay even if he himself broke an article. As an editor, I should revert if someone has accidentally messed up the article. I have no problem with her, just her behaviour of not being careful before reverting. That's all my comments to her ever were about. You are misinterpreting it. MatthewOne (talk) 23:17, June 20, 2018 (UTC)

Great Mara is also accusing others of breaking pages. Neither me nor Quindraco have ever broken any article. The article Mara seems to be referring to is Addiction. However, all my revert did there was undo the breaking of the box. Amdist the revert, I also removed whitespaces. However, that never broke the article. MatthewOne (talk) 23:27, June 20, 2018 (UTC)

I don't want to revert Mara again and again and appear to be harassing him. However, his reverts of Quindraco have removed a lot of information. Please see to it yourself what to do with this situation. MatthewOne (talk) 23:46, June 20, 2018 (UTC)

Explanation

I don't know why am I being blamed nor what exactly are you I'm being blamed for. Am I the one wrong here? Please do try to read this below carefully.

It was Paladin117 who started edit-warring with me. Even though he was reverted, he reverted me back. That is a violation of user policy. See here: [1]. He also misled me to restore his edits again here and here. In fact, I did later start a discussion on Talk:Feral ghoul to avoid the dispute and clear things up about it.

Gunny however was blaming me of reverting when was I reverted [2] and breaking policy even though it was Paladin who did it. I only said to him not to take such a strict tone and not to blame me for something I didn't do and also asked him to warn Paladin117 for his actions, see here: [3]. I don't see what wrong I have done in that.

I had a dispute and Paladin117's behaviour was way more unacceptable, yet I got blamed.

As for Sakaratte or Jspoletra, I haven't really done anything that can be perceived wrong to them. We have always had positive interactions. I haven't done anything against them nor said anything to them. I only interact with Jspoelstra to help me on Fallout 1. As for Mara, I've already stopped interaction as you adviced.

I'm not misbehaving and I am following your advice. But seriously what am I being blamed for this time? MatthewOne (talk) 23:02, June 21, 2018 (UTC)

New categories

I see you're experimenting with the Semantic Mediawiki we got from Wikia. I see two files in an uncategorized Category:Semantic_News. Do those files belong there or in the Category:Semantic News System category? Can you categorize this (these) category(s)? Also two red links in News Archive. Re: Nukapedia/Wikia

I've responded to you over at my talk page on the C&C Wiki. For practical reasons, I'd like it if we continued to talk there, so we talk in one place. PW_Signature_Nod_Emblem.png Sheldonist (yell!) 21:33, July 17, 2018 (UTC)

I love Super Mutants, but can't edit their page...

Patroller

Hello there, I have been editing continuously for 30 days and have a total of 300 article edits at this moment. I have undone various edits by vandals and would like to become a patroller.

Kind regards Jgrsoto (talk) 13:09, July 30, 2018 (UTC)

Re: Catch Up

Hello, Chad! Depends on what day on the weekend, I'm free on the evening of Friday and pretty much the whole Saturday too. So either of those days works for me. On what platform do you plan to discuss this? Thanks! Best regards, JackiBackiBoy Fighter Jet 15:06, August 8, 2018 (UTC)

Let'say 15:00 (UTC), I wake up pretty late now during the summer, I also need my breakfast and lunch in order to stay sharp ;) If you ask me either Skype or Discord works, personally I prefer Discord nowadays since I find that the notifications work better there, so let's say Discord.
