TapperEdit

Hi! I believe "Tapper" is indeed his in-game name as given by the GECK (and game-play). It may however coincide with his occupation but there is no other name given so this is the one we use. Do you believe there is a mistake here? --Skire (talk) 21:59, May 15, 2013 (UTC)

Fallout 3 loading screensEdit

Hey Theo, how's it going? I see you're doing a lot of work on the Russian wiki, so good for them. I was wondering, how did you get those nifty Fallout 3 loading screen images? I tried to find them using Fo3 archive utility and I found images in the /icons/loading directory, but when I open them I see the images, but the background is white. Can you tell me how you got them? Jspoel Speech Jspoel 21:59, September 1, 2013 (UTC)

And how did you make those map marker images? I can only find a 1024x1024px model for the entire Fallout: New Vegas map in the extracted files. Yours are of a much smaller section of the map and even have a 1000*750px res. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 22:32, September 1, 2013 (UTC)
Took a bit of searching, but I found the Blending option in Photoshop and got the loading screen images working! Good thing to know for sure. Now I could create them myself, but would you mind if I use your images? I mean you use our stuff too right? Brothers and sisters. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 14:47, September 2, 2013 (UTC)
Yeah, you got into some problems when I replaced all Fo1 and Fo2 character images some weeks ago right? Few hundred red links that all needed to be updated on the Russian wiki after I did that. Good luck with deciding what to do. Thanks for that FNV loading screen link. We can use those images here too. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 23:47, September 2, 2013 (UTC)
Sure, I wasn't worried about that. It's really not that much work to update links. Check the wantedimages special page, crosscheck the new name over here and change the name on the Russian wiki. Not that hard. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 00:27, September 3, 2013 (UTC)

Games templateEdit

Hey Theo. Added it, nothing happening yet. Do we have to wait a while for it to update? What you mean with the chopped shadows from info- and nav-boxes? Didn't notice anything strange there. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 23:36, October 19, 2013 (UTC)

Ok, so I'm not good with CSS coding. It works, my thanks! Don't you miss us a bit here? We sure can use your expertise in the CSS coding and template area, but I guess you knew that right? Still hope to see back one day for a second chance... Jspoel Speech Jspoel 00:06, October 20, 2013 (UTC)

Shell casingsEdit

Wow, those look great! I noticed you uploading some new ones and tried to find them in the GECK and do it myself. Best I could find though were the files in the extracted shellcasingphysics map below the projectiles map. Where did you find those casings then, they look much different to mine. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 14:47, December 29, 2013 (UTC)

And can you tell me what the location of the .44 magnum and 40mm grenade bullets are? Those I can't find either. If you see forgotten gems like that upload to our wiki as well by all means! Jspoel Speech Jspoel 14:52, December 29, 2013 (UTC)
Ok, I discovered that you can disect the weapon .nif files in Nifskope down to the bullet. But there it looks a bit faded. The GECK would give a better and more natural render. That's what you did, right, for example with the 40mm grenade? How did you do it? Jspoel Speech Jspoel 00:24, December 30, 2013 (UTC)

( I'm making progress, but where can I find the NiVisController-s button? And how do I make a static object? I'm not entirely getting that. As said, I'm getting good results but I hope to copy your bullet images to over here. Saves me work and you seem to get better results. I wasn't able to find the 308 and 50 MG image like you have it. Nifskope isn't that bad, you just have to make sure to remove the bloodstains. And I noticed your Khan clothing images. They have their arms down to the side while standard they have them spread. How are you making that happen? Oh, and a happy new year! Jspoel Speech Jspoel 20:27, January 2, 2014 (UTC)

Ok, I changed the 10mm image for the Chinese pistol. Didn't look that bad but now the perspective is better. I'm gonna leave the 5.56mm cartridge on the Fallout 3 version, it has the same PipBoy icon to FNV. I found the NivisController, but what does it do? Jspoel Speech Jspoel 23:40, January 3, 2014 (UTC)

Translation and switchbladesEdit

My Russian's a bit rusty these days :) You found another gem with Straight razor, Theo! How did you make it unfold? Did you create two separate images and knitted them together? That's what I did with Figaro. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 21:33, January 12, 2014 (UTC)

Fusion generatorEdit

Thanks for letting me know, I never knew that. I don't play on PC, and I found that on a cut content site, it said it was actually cut from the game. User OfficialLolGuy  OfficialLolGuy  Talk  Blog  21:44, January 12, 2014 (UTC)

Dialogue filesEdit

That's great to hear, Theo! I already had calculated many hours of work trying to figure out in Excel how to format the dialogue files. We are very interested and gladly accept your offer! Let me know once you're ready with the programming, so we can assemble some extra workforce, ok? 22:14, January 17, 2014 (UTC)

Ah, so you caught my sandbox. Looks great! I still have to discuss some details with the bcs/admins, for example which exact columns we want here. It will be close to what the sandbox is, maybe 1 or 2 more columns. I'll get back to you later on this. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 15:59, January 20, 2014 (UTC)

Hey, can you check something for meEdit

Theo! I didn't realise this was you. Its good to see you again, and interested in the Dialogue files....

Was wondering if you might be able to help me on something as a GECK user.... We were asked this on twitter.

Malik ‏@imamgriever Jan 18
@Nukapedia what's the 'vault trinket' from the 'hard luck blues' quest supposed to be?
Malik ‏@imamgriever Jan 19
@Nukapedia i heard there is no code whatsoever in the game that actuall explain what's 'vault trinket' ?

Any clues from what you've seen? Agent c (talk) 06:08, January 20, 2014 (UTC)

Thanks Theo. Darn, Will have to try another line of inquiry.Agent c (talk) 18:38, January 20, 2014 (UTC)

Dialogue files exportEdit

I've created 9 FNV dialogue export files, for the characters with the most lines. You can see the results in Category:Fallout: New Vegas dialogue files. Can you put these 9 files into tables, and use the columns you see in User:Jspoelstra/sandbox1 (combine topic text and prompt)? You asked me for a complete export, so your bot has to remove a lot of unneeded columns, but I suppose you can program it that way. If not, let me know, ok? Possibly one column can be removed later on, but first I'd like to see how things look now. In the meantime I'll take a look at a fitting infobox. Thanks in advance! Jspoel Speech Jspoel 22:05, January 25, 2014 (UTC)

DialoguesEdit

  • CATEGORY - I've used it to break dialogue in to sections. Saves some space and makes things little bit more readable, IMHO.
Is ok.
  • QUEST ID - I've dropped it, because it has no real value outside of the GECK. Again, IMHO.
Is ok.
  • TOPIC - I'm thinking about adding HTML anchors to it, so it could be used for linking (e.g. [[VMS38RedLucy.txt#VMS38VMS38RedLucyTopic403|......]])
Just the thing I was thinking about (I was already browsing the FNV keys overview which also has linkable options)! Would save us putting large amounts of text in the main namespace as reference. Can you give it a try for Lucy? See if it works.
  • TOPIC TEXT / PROMPT - I've combined them, because prompt always supersedes topic text - absolutely no point in keeping them both.
Is ok, but can you move the EMOTION to go between TOPIC TEXT / PROMPT and RESPONSE TEXT / NOTES instead of the last column? Think it has a better place there. And can you remove the <br /> in the EMOTION column? Jspoel Speech Jspoel 20:02, February 1, 2014 (UTC)
  • RESPONSE TEXT / NOTES - Again, combined them. RESPONSE TEXT usually contains some notes ({in curved brackets}) anyway, so adding some more NOTES to its end doesn't change anything.
Is ok.
  • FILENAME - Useless without of VOICETYPE. And you'll have to give me some good reasons to put something like "MaleUniqueBenny\VCG00_VCG00OpeningSequence_00107225_1.mp3ogg" in to the table. Why do you need them anyway?
Well, I thought it would come in handy if adding soundfiles, you would know the name. But we very probably won't do that, maybe with a few. So it's ok to leave it out.

If you would like to change anything - just let me know, everything is pretty much doable. And one more question: Are we going to keep topics which aren't specific to the given NPC?

So only thing is moving the EMOTION column. Can you give me an example of an unspecific NPC topic?

I'm working on the FNV dialogue files as we speak, still working out some kinks, but I'm almost ready with the 20 or so I uploaded.

On a completely different topic: What about Fallout 2 Restoration Project? Is it accepted by Nukapedia? I'm asking on behalf of our editors, who have found few cases of RP content being used in main-space articles:

Have to get back to you on that, have to talk it over with the people over here. I'm not sure where we stand here. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 19:55, February 1, 2014 (UTC)

Dialogue progressEdit

It's absolutely looking fantastic, Theo! I'm happy. It's a big advantage to be able to link to the dialogue for referencing. And the solution to put the filename between <-- --> is fine as well. Makes it easier to find filenames, should we want to add the dialogue files. You can remove the generic Lucky38Marilyn and leave only unique NPCID (if we would want to add generic combat/detection, we could always use transclusion later on). About the complete export, what I do now is export, then sort on SPEAKER in Excel, after which I remove all the characters that don't apply (so leaving only one) and then sort on QUEST CATEGORY, with second sort TOPIC. That takes care of a lot. You appear to say that your bot can do anything, so what step can I skip?. Just plain export and only remove the characters that don't apply? Don't I have to sort otherwise? Jspoel Speech Jspoel 16:18, February 2, 2014 (UTC)

Oh I see, your bot could change it en masse like this?: <!--MaleUniqueHanlon\VCampGolfHanlon_GREETING_0015C121_1.ogg--> into <!--{{Inline quote|sound=VCampGolfHanlon_GREETING_0015C121_1.ogg}}--> etcetera.

Well, you can go ahead and change it, while keeping the , right? Then the only thing that's needed later on (if we get permission) is removing the <!-- and --> which is easy. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 18:14, February 2, 2014 (UTC) ( I know, it's a massive amount of files available. But I certainly wasn't planning on adding them all. Just a selection of the more important/interesting quotes of characters, to expand on the audio quotes we already have on most character pages. If we add all the filenames, we can choose whatever we want and it's available. How you combined the voicetype and filename is fine, it's easy adjustable. Boyd sandbox is looking great, you can go ahead with your bot. Where exactly do I add your table code css in common.css?

( You're already making good progress, Theo, but I have a remark. The topics aren't sorted, which I would very much like to see (like 001, 002 etc.) I thought your bot would take care of it, but appearantly that's not the case. Can you still change it? Jspoel Speech Jspoel 13:05, February 3, 2014 (UTC)

Your bot doesn't really mess rc up. It's not like hundreds of pages so it's fine. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 13:29, February 3, 2014 (UTC)
Yes, I know, you told me earlier. But yesterday I tried one and got a 750,000 bytes file, while trimmed (which was easily done) it was just 75,000 bytes and much more managable (memory) when editing it for coding and saving. So that held me off on a total export. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 13:49, February 3, 2014 (UTC)

( Wow, these dialogues tables look absolutely fantastic, Theo! We are all very happy what you've done with them. Then to think a few weeks back I wasn't even sure we would be able to create them in readable format and even if, it would have taken months was my guess at the time. Now it's a few days and we've almost done a complete game, with help from a few users over here. Great. We're about ready with FNV, now to Fallout 3. I was thinking, the sorting has to be on GetIsID == 1 right? That will get you the unique lines from the looks of it. Let me know and we can add that as the parameter, ok? Jspoel Speech Jspoel 13:54, February 4, 2014 (UTC)

Oddities with mw-collapse Edit

Howdy, Theo. Ran into some weirdness with mw-collapsible. It's displaying the collapse and uncollapse text down the page at the top of the second infobox. You can see this on [[User:The_Gunny/sandbox2#Notable_loot]]. Works fine if I remove that second infobox. I haven't been able to figure out what's gong on. Does it with any second infobox. Any chance you can take a stab at this? The Gunny  UserGunny chevrons 18:20, February 2, 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for looking at that. I think since it's only one page, I'll go for the simple solution right now and wrap the infoboxes in divs. If we see more problems later, we can explore the other method. The Gunny  UserGunny chevrons 23:41, February 2, 2014 (UTC)

DialoguesEdit

Can't we just replace GetIsID == 1 with something we can use for filtering? Jspoel Speech Jspoel 14:25, February 5, 2014 (UTC)

Ok, Theo, we'll wait in patience then. Hope you can get it to work. I've put most of the dialogues on the FNV pages now, they're a great addition to the infoboxes and very user friendly to read. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 15:32, February 7, 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for fixing the remaining FNV dialogues! I'll probably find a few more in the days to come. How goes your progress on the dialogues for the Fallout 3 characters? Jspoel Speech Jspoel 21:12, February 23, 2014 (UTC)
Ah I see. We'll wait a bit more then, no problem. Good luck! Jspoel Speech Jspoel 22:45, February 23, 2014 (UTC)

Re:History projectEdit

Thanks! It's a fascinating find indeed. I'm going to be very busy for awhile unfortunately, but I'll think about making a page soon... If you have time and/or are interested, you could create it yourself too. --Skire (talk) 00:07, February 9, 2014 (UTC)

Bug Charts Edit

Hey Theo, whenever you get a chance I could really use some help updating the bug charts again (They are rather difficult to handle by myself as the charts are huge and the load times on both pages are ridiculous while editing). Due to school I haven't been able to keep up with changes going on so there are probably a good number of pages that need to be removed and some that need to be added. I would also like to get a total number of bugs added in beside each page so that we can tally up the total number of bugs on the wiki for statistical purposes. This is a lot to ask and will probably take awhile so just let me know whenever you happen to be free to do it. ---bleep196- (talk) 22:46, February 24, 2014 (UTC)

Ok that's cool, it's a shame you don't have the bot anymore cause that would make both our jobs easier. I'm fairly busy at the moment as well as you can tell by this super late reply, so just let me know whenever you have a free moment. I was thinking about moving the charts onto several different pages to decrease the load time, and so we have them more organized (For example have charts for each category of game article or something, etc.). However before we do that we need to update the total number of pages in each chart, and remove those pages that may no longer have bugs as well as sort out how many bugs each page has. It's a big task so it will have to be done at a time where we don't have much else going on or else we'll just never get it done. ---bleep196- (talk) 23:19, March 3, 2014 (UTC)

Fallout 3 dialoguesEdit

It's looking great, Theo! I'm very happy with it. Anchors are fine, I discovered you even added the script notes in italics to the response text. Marvelous. What is the bot rewrite code? Is it NPCID=<name page>? You can go ahead with the rewrites, I'll round up some forces. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 14:13, March 5, 2014 (UTC)

Fallout 2 restoration projectEdit

You're right, I did promise that. It slipped my mind, sorry. I just asked two of our bureaucrats who have a lot of years on the wiki, they may recall some of the project's history here. My guess is, we see it as a mod and don't cover it. You showed 3 examples, but they're all on cut content pages and hardly anything else has been done with it from the looks of it. What is the Russian Fallout wiki's stance on it? Jspoel Speech Jspoel 18:55, March 7, 2014 (UTC)

DialoguesEdit

We're about done with adding dialogues to the Fallout 3 characters, Theo. Still about 60 left to convert, mostly Broken Steel dialogues. Can you do those? And how is your progress adapting your bot for the other Fallout 3 add-on dialogues? Jspoel Speech Jspoel 15:17, March 19, 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for the update. I agree with everything you suggest. In fact, if I had noticed the jokes missing from Wadsworth and Godfrey, I would have rung the bell. I wasn't aware of it. These kind of dialogue should be included. The streettalk can also be included. Go ahead and do as you already suggest. Take your time and once you're ready for it, we'll hear from you. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 17:10, March 20, 2014 (UTC)
Hey Theo, how's it going? Hope all is well. It's been awhile since I last asked you about the dialogue files. There are still a lot left to be included from the Fallout 3 add-ons. Can you give me an indication on the progress of reprogramming your bot? I remember you wanted to include some left out dialogue. I reckon you've been busy in real life these past few months and if that's still the case let me know, ok? But if you find a free spot for it in the near future that would be great. Those dialogues files are a great asset to the wiki. Btw, I've uploaded a lot of Killap's restoration project images, especially location and item ones. There are really some beautiful ones among them; for example the Chinese sub. I treat it as cut content as not to step on anyone's toes. You can use all the images for the Russian wiki! Hope to hear from you. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 19:39, May 24, 2014 (UTC)
I thought as much that was the case. I understand of course. We'll put it on hold for the time being then. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 22:46, May 24, 2014 (UTC)

Re: Dialogue Files Edit

This is where building a custom text parser comes in handy. It isn't very hard and can be done with a few lines of code (-20) and some expertly crafted Regular Expressions.
Lil' Miss Rarity (message)Wednesday, June 18th 2014, 23:07
Everything is already in table format (CSV) with a tab delimiter. You just apply basic CSV rules and parser and you can easily query and build your result tables.
Lil' Miss Rarity (message)Thursday, June 19th 2014, 19:19
I see you caught up with my conversation with Miss Rarity about the dialogue files. I'm really keen on getting those done for the Fallout 3 add-ons, so I asked around and got lucky. I hope she can get it to work. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 19:27, June 19, 2014 (UTC)
Actually I'd be more keen on implementing a Bayesian filtering system to automatically identify and collect all of the trash. This can be implemented rather easily using a small SQLite database and a handful of training sets.
Lil' Miss Rarity (message)Thursday, June 19th 2014, 20:14
Alright since you are an expert user I am going to cut my potential losses and leave the dialogue files to you. Best of luck.
Lil' Miss Rarity (message)Thursday, June 19th 2014, 21:06

Laser sight imageEdit

Ok I got it. I thought it had the same appearance as the icon, but now I see it just uses the 10mm pistol laser sight icon and looks different in the game. I changed it back (with a larger version, removing the laser beam so you have a better view of it). About the dialogues, I added a dozen or so FNV dialogues since the last converson, mostly minor characters. Can you convert these (since you already did a lot of them)? Fallout 3 add-ons are the problem right? Jspoel Speech Jspoel 22:20, July 13, 2014 (UTC)

And maybe a few Fallout 3 characters? For example Harold, MacCready, EulogyJones, Father Clifford, Harkness, Pinkerton and a few Vault 101 guards. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 22:26, July 13, 2014 (UTC)
Ok, thanks for those FNV dialogue files! There were a few important ones there like Dog/God and The King. So another fine job. Fallout 3 work in progress then we shall say. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 20:44, July 14, 2014 (UTC)

Lighter and weapon imagesEdit

Theo, how did you make the image for the Engraved cigarette lighter? I couldn't get it to open its cap. And I'd like to add expanded weapon images to our weapon pages. TV has it and we can't stay behind on these important pages. But I can't get some ammunition cylinders to open. Do you know it's done, maybe with Blender? How does the program work, I tried it on the cigarette lighter, couldn't open it though. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 16:16, July 24, 2014 (UTC)

Incomplete library of Fallout 3 dialogue Edit

Hey Theo, I have been following your work with importing dialogue from the GECK and noticed why your work isn't complete yet.

I recognize that all work related to the wiki is purely voluntary but I would like to let you know that I would greatly appreciate its completion under your hands. This would ensure uniformity as well as maximum fidelity in our sources as I trust your discretion on this matter more than anyone.

If you simply cannot find the time to donate to the effort I completely understand and respect your priorities. Just figured I'd give you a heads up as I'm finalizing the referencing guideline and would like our source library to be fully stocked for its execution.

I've already messaged Lil' Miss Rarity about this and figured I'd flush it your way as well. Your efforts have not gone unappreciated and I am grateful for every bit of information you have given us. --The Ever Ruler (talk) 17:32, July 24, 2014 (UTC)

Russian dialogue filesEdit

My Russian is not that good (to say the least), but I did notice in your dialogue files that you include reputation values in them. That is just the thing that I'm looking for on our wiki. How are you doing that? I see them in the GECK but they don't export. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 16:14, February 22, 2015 (UTC)

I'm taking those reputation/skill/level/perk/av/health/sex/item/carma/time/dead/equipped/cell/region/world checks directly from .esm files. --Теодорико (talk) 21:56, February 22, 2015 (UTC)
How? Do you have a special program for it, or is it some action done with the GECK? Jspoel Speech Jspoel 22:06, February 22, 2015 (UTC)
Is it usable for our English wiki? And if so, can we have the program? Those reputation parameters would be nice to have in the dialogues. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 22:37, February 22, 2015 (UTC)
Yes, I'm certainly interested to have these reputation checks (and skill checks) added. Can you do a test run here to see how it looks? Jspoel Speech Jspoel 23:26, February 22, 2015 (UTC)
I already thought you would have to rewrite them from scratch. But that doesn't seem a problem because the dialogues already exist and are overwritten to a new format. But first let me inform Digital Utopia, ok? He has done a lot on the format and bot work of the dialogues. It's the decent thing to do. I'll get back to you later on. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 17:33, February 23, 2015 (UTC)

Cajoling a CudgelEdit

Cajoling means flatter, bootlick and cudgel refers to The Humble Cudgel. I suppose it means Having adoration/passion for the weapon. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 22:28, June 5, 2015 (UTC)

Infobox value fixedEdit

My thanks! A small oversight shall we say, right? Jspoel Speech Jspoel 23:16, June 21, 2015 (UTC)
