Fallout: The Gauntlet, 2024

Into the Meat Grindr: Hello fellow competitors, and welcome to Fallout: The Gauntlet, 2024! Hosted by Nukapedia and the Strategic Nuclear Moose, a Nuka-Cola Corporation subsidiary, The Gauntlet is an annual community event in which our users can get together in order to compete for fabulous prizes through a themed competition!

This year's theme will be a writing competition regarding Vault-Tec's very own Fallout television show!

This is a high-stakes competition with high-stakes prizes, as our winners will be taking home with them a slew of Fallout-themed rewards, both physical and digital! 20 competitors will be chosen to face off against each other over a grueling 12-month ordeal, with every month bringing in a new and unique challenge that will exponentially push them to expand upon the television show, its setting, and the very lore that it has introduced into the Fallout canon.

Legal Notices:
  1. For any questions regarding this competition, please contact the host, Old Man Leon. To reiterate, please contact the host and not any of the other judges.
  2. This competition is being hosted from the United States. While there will be wiki-specific rewards that are guaranteed, physical and digital prizes may be limited/restricted depending on where you live.
  3. Should it be discovered that any prize-recipients won through illicit means and/or by violating the competition rules, legal action will be considered where possible.
  4. All prizes will be insured upon shipping. Should they arrive damaged or not at all, please make sure to contact me so that replacements can be arranged.
  5. This will be a 12-month competition. Upon its conclusion, especially in regards to perishable goods, certain prizes may no longer be available for choosing. I will try my best to keep the prize-pool consistently updated as the competition progresses.

Writing Guidelines:
  1. No custom or obnoxious fonts such as cursive
  2. Minimum font-size is 12, max is 16
  3. Be courteous to your fellow readers and use basic writing fundamentals such as paragraphs and punctuation

User Guidelines:
  1. You must have a registered account here at Nukapedia
  2. Sometimes life gets in the way, and something comes up that prevents a competitor from reaching their deadlines. Extensions for up to a week are available towards those that provide valid reasons. Repeat extensions can result in disqualification should they disrupt the entire competition.
  3. 20 competitors in total will be chosen depending on who successfully puts in their applications first. When writing your Pitch, please keep in mind that the quality of your writing will determine whether the application is successful or not (low-quality Pitches will be ineligible).
  4. All entries will be checked for plagiarism and/or AI (basic editing software such as SpellCheck are of course allowed and encouraged). If any entry is confirmed to be fraudulent, you will be disqualified and all potentially earned prizes will become forfeit.
  5. Fallout is a mature-themed franchise, and as such, we will not only expect mature themes in entries put forth, but encourage them as well. With that being said, content added purely for shock-value or of a pornographic nature, will be disqualified if not amended by the turn-in date.
  6. While this is a competition, with very real stakes, we will not tolerate harassment or brigading in any shape, form, or fashion. There is nothing wrong with a bit of banter between rivals, but please keep in mind that there is a line that you shouldn't cross without expecting consequences.
  7. In general, follow the rules of Good Sportsmanship. Not everything is going to be explicitly covered by the guidelines here, as we expect our participants to act in good faith and with critical thinking skills. There are no loopholes - if you violate the spirit of this competition, you will be disqualified.

Premise - This month's challenge is going to be the most important, as it's going to be used in your application to determine whether you make it into the 20 available competitor slots going forward. There will be no judge critiques during this challenge, so it's up to each and every one of you on your own merits to craft a story that will captivate your audience and have them coming back each and every month to cheer you on and help secure your place as Champion.

Prompt - For your Pitch, there are a select few key milestones to hit in order to get your story established and ready for next month's challenge:

  1. Primary setting
  2. Main characters
  3. Initial conflict that drives the story forward (but doesn't necessarily have to conclude yet)

Requirements - Remember that this competition revolves around Amazon's Fallout television show. You may choose to write a story that's directly tied to the show's main story and characters, you can create your own standalone tale that only loosely ties in with the show, or hell you can even create your own anthology. What's important is that you abide by the show's canon and happenstances:

  1. Your Pitch, and by extension your application, are due by the 15th of next month (November). The open slots are first-come, first-serve, so make sure to get it in as quickly as possible!
  2. The word-limit is capped at 10,000
  3. All Pitches must be original and created explicitly for use in this competition. That includes self-plagiarizing any existing works.
