Today in the Mojave Wasteland
For today's blog, I am taking you far away from the Mojave Desert!
The real life Yangtze Memorial is located in La Jolla, California - near San Diego, close to the United States border with Mexico (think Baja). It is called the Mt. Soledad National Veterans Memorial and it is gorgeous. It honors veterans from the American Revolutionary War to present day. Eleven curved walls contain more than 5,000 black granite plaques with the names and photos of servicemembers.
From my house, it is about a 10 hour round trip drive, so not completely un-do-able. But thankfully I have a great group of friends that I do kendo with every here and again, who all live in San Diego. I asked their group if one of them would be willing to take some pictures of this place, and of course, they said yes.
So thank you to my friend Megan, who actually went way above and beyond and stopped there at different times of day and weather to get a ton of different varieties of photos. You are amazing and spoil me so much!
Hope you enjoyed heading down south of the Mojave. Until next time, happy trails!
