Unit #462 is a non-functional Type-II Mister Handy with a layer of dust on it suggested that it hasn't been active for a while. It has malfunctioning components resulting in a problem with its on board computer and its radio being inoperable.
After repaired (requiring a high level in Repair and Science) and after a short dialogue with it, it will go to clean up the control room with the FEV vats to the north, and end up blowing up the forcefield emitter for which you get 1000 XP and destroy the forcefield forever if it was active.
Conversely, Unit 462 can potentially be convinced with a successful hack, to assume offensive operations and become a limitless ammo, mini-gun wielding party member. He will auto-heal over time, but cannot be banished from the party once he has joined. He will not accept items or allow dialogue options once he joins. He cannot be asked to move and also takes up a larger map footprint leading to maneuvering challenges in tight quarters.
