Two Skies cave is a location in Zion Canyon in the Fallout: New Vegas add-on Honest Hearts.

Background[]

Sometime in-between the end of January 2078 and May 2083, Randall Clark moved from his previous campsite in Fallen Rock cave in the Eastern Virgin to the cave closer to the Virgin River itself. Over the course of the month, he noted that the previously desolated Zion had started to regrow much of its natural splendor since the bombs dropped, though flora like prickly pear cactuses, honey mesquite trees, and banana yucca plants had developed mutated features while still being safe for human consumption. He also observed new mutated forms of fauna including "stinging flies" and a "dragonfly-sized" insect that feasts on them with some form of electric attack. Later, he observed a few herds of bighorn sheep that had become mutated also. While making plans to start hunting them for meat and skins, Clark also made a promise to his late wife that he would return to their hometown once winter passed.[1][2]

Clark eventually followed through with his promise mid-April the next year and made the trip on-foot back to Salt Lake City to scavenge the ruins, a journey that took him 15 days which he remembered only taking 7-9 with his truck in the pre-War days, except now he was slowed down by having to maneuver around pockets of lingering radiation and doing some mid-travel foraging. While in SLC, which he described as being "mostly craters. Warped steel girders where highrises sat. Mounds of bricks," Clark lamented that his return trip was done mostly to confirm to himself that there was nothing left of his previous life there: no town, no house, and no traces of his family; he held out a small hope that he might find their bones to give them a proper burial but came up empty-handed. After a long time wallowing in his self-loathing, Clark found the courage to leave his former hometown and return to Zion. While near Nephi, he found sets of tracks leading to the town, but stopped himself from following with the reason they were more likely to be cannibals than anyone friendly. He eventually made it back to the canyon in early June and logged the journey in his journal, later building an electrified door to keep potential interlopers out.[3][4]

Continuing to live in the cave for around 11 more years, around mid-September 2095, Clark discovered a group of people had entered Zion. A couple of days later, through distant observation, he learned that the Spanish-speaking group were refugees who he assumed had traveled all the way north from Mexico since the day of the bombs. For two months after, Clark continued to watch them from afar, learning things about them such as Maria was pregnant with the son of either Jose or Pablo. One time, he was almost caught by Pedro but was able to avoid detection, telling himself that he needed to remain further away. In early November, Jose suffered a nasty fall too far from the group's camp, but Clark found him. Against his better judgment to stay hidden and leave the man to die, Clark got the others to follow his faked cries all the way to where Jose was, saving his life. Despite believing the severity of Jose's wound would kill him, Clark still provided help by leaving the group antibiotics to help their man recover, which the Mexicans attributed to the benevolence of God, to Clark's personal distaste thinking about the state of the world.[5][6]

Layout[]

Situated directly west of the Old Rockville Bridge along the bank of the Virgin River, upon entering the cave, the path forks off to the left and right. The left path is an instant dead end, however, with nothing of value or note in it.

The right path leads down a small slope; there is a tripwire attached to two concealed shotgun traps at the bottom of the slope, where it splits into two paths - straight ahead, or right.

Going straight ahead goes around a left-hand turn to an electrified door. With a Repair skill of 50, the door can be disabled by damaging the electrical box on the fence to the left hand side of the door, either by shooting or blowing it up. There is also a computer that can be hacked into, leading directly into the campsite chamber.

If the door is unable to be opened, turning right at the fork leads down another slope into a medium sized room with another slope on the right, leading down into a submerged section of the cavern. If one is lacking access to the rebreather, there are a few points to surface for air before emerging into a large cavern. The cavern is largely devoid of anything of interest, except for a door on the western edge of it. There are mines in front of the door, which is Average-locked.

The chamber itself is broken into three sections. Near the south-east entrance (where the chamber is entered from the submerged section), there is a campfire and a small shelf with a campfire sack. A raised platform has several beds and another campfire sack underneath the platform, next to the front ramp. Behind the platform is another area where another terminal can be found. Besides it, the area also has a reloading bench, several explosives crates, a footlocker, and a shelf with a few boxes. The top box has a few bobby pins.

The north side of the chamber leads to the exit. With a 50 Melee Weapons or Unarmed skill level, the generator can be forcibly disabled. The other option is to hack the computer. If the door was entered from the other side by exploding or shooting the electrical box, this removes the option to interact with the generator.
