Tinker Tom is a character living in the Commonwealth in Fallout 4.
Background
Tinker Tom is the engineer, inventor and weapons expert of The Railroad. He is in charge of maintaining the equipment of field agents as well as researching new weapons and gadgets for agents to use in field operations. As he is also the quasi-quartermaster of the group, the Sole Survivor can trade for weapons, ammo, armor pieces and equipment with him.
He is brilliant and energetic, but also paranoid and constantly fabricates conspiracy theories about The Institute, its synths and their machinations around the Commonwealth. He will also enlist the help of the Sole Survivor in the Weathervane missions in an attempt to prove one of his theories. He also plays an important part in helping the Sole Survivor decode a Courser Chip to facilitate breaking into the The Institute.

Notes
- If deciding to take Tinker Tom's serum the Sole Survivor's health will significantly drop. Deacon is among the few companions that approve of accepting the shot; most of the others like Piper and Curie will dislike it or be indifferent about it at best.
- He believes the Institute threw the first bomb during the Great War. He is correct.
- He strongly believes that aliens exists, according to what Deacon says if he accompanies the Survivor during the alien ship crash and to what Tom himself has it written down on his personal computer in the RR headquarters. However, there is no dialogue option or other possibility to tell Tom about the crash or even the encounter with an actual alien, should the player have been able to track it down afterwards.
- Tinker Tom appears to be working on a prototype railway rifle, it causes a fatality amongst the generic Railroad Agents and if looting the item even though it weighs the same as a normal one. It only does 1 damage and is not upgradeable.
- Tinker Tom may be using drugs, as he can be heard saying that "Everyone's all, "You've been hitting the chems way too hard." But I got my eyes wide open, I see." If true, they could be causing, or at least increasing, his paranoia.
- Tinker Tom's full name is Thomas Weatherby, as revealed by P.A.M. upon completing the quest Mercer Safehouse.
- Whenever you finish one of the Weathervane missions (except the last), he will automatically give you a MILA for the next randomized location. When you barter with him, he will have the total number of MILAs for the remaining missions available in the inventory. Players can gain MILAs this way, though for reasons unknown, possibly a glitch.
Appearances
Tinker Tom appears only in Fallout 4.
Bugs
- Upon doing the first DIA cache mission for P.A.M. Drummer Boy will tell to speak to Tinker Tom. Tinker Tom should mention ballistic weave and have some armored under-apparel for sale but doesn't. If having this bug the Institute weave mod will be useless and spawning any of the ballistic weave mods on PC will also be useless.[verification overdue][platforms tag needed]
- Killing the Railroad, the mission will still be active, but reporting back to Tinker Tom won't allow you to turn in the mission.[verification overdue] If the Weathervane missions aren't complete and the Sole Survivor sides with the Institute during
