Foreword

The Fallout world is not our own. It is set in a universe that diverged, but shares many historical milestones prior to the events of World War II: While it takes place in the future, it is not our future, but one reflecting a traditional 1950s-style science fiction "world of tomorrow."

This timeline is only for the chronological sequence of all events in the Fallout world events seen or mentioned in Fallout, Fallout 2, Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, Fallout 4, Fallout 76, all official Fallout game guides, and supplementary materials like the Fallout Bible as well as the Fallout TV series.

• October 14: The Battle of Hastings is fought.

1215

• The Magna Carta is signed by King John of England and English barons, greatly limiting his authority as king.

1600s

• Toshiro Kago is abducted by Mothership Zeta from Japan sometime during the Tokugawa shogunate, starting on March 24, 1603.

1605

• November 5: Guy Fawkes et al. are arrested for attempting to blow up Parliament and assassinate James I of England.

1612

• Captain John Smith lands in what would become known as Point Lookout.

1634

• March 25: Lord Baltimore dispatches the first colonists to Maryland. They land in Point Lookout aboard ships called the Ark and the Dove.
• Boston Common is established.

1660

• The Old Granary burying ground is founded.

1680

• The Paul Revere House is built in Boston, eventually becoming the oldest standing building in the entire city.

1690

• The first issue of the Publick Occurrences newspaper is published in Boston.

1692

• The infamous Salem witch trials begin.

• May 17: Andrew Endicott is abducted by Mothership Zeta from Salem Village.

• The Great Fire occurs in Boston.
• Cabot House is built in Boston.

1713

• The Old State House is built in Boston, eventually becoming the oldest public building in the city.

• The Soil Stradivarius is manufactured by Antonio Stradivari.

1723

• Old North Church is built in Boston, eventually becoming the oldest standing church in the city.

• Trinity Church is founded in Boston.

1742

• Faneuil Hall is completed and donated to Boston by Peter Faneuil. On May 25, Shem Drowne forges the gilded grasshopper and mounts it on the roof.

1755

• Boston is damaged in the Cape Ann earthquake. Faneuil Hall is among the damaged buildings.

1768

• June 28: The gilded grasshopper weather vane is restored and returned to the top of Faneuil Hall by Thomas Drowne.

1770

• March 5: The Boston Massacre occurs outside Custom House Tower in Boston.
• Paul Revere buys what later becomes known as the Paul Revere House, where he lives with his family until 1800.

1774

• Prickett's Fort is founded in West Virginia. It becomes the basis for an inaccurate tourist attraction centuries later, built by the Society for the Preservation of Historical Recreations.

1775

• April 18: Lieutenant Colonel Francis Smith marches with 700 British Army soldiers to Concord in an attempt to disarm American militia there. Robert Newman climbs the Old North Church and lights two lanterns to warn patriots of the incoming redcoats.
• April 19: The Revolutionary War begins with the Battles of Lexington and Concord.
• April 19: The Siege of Boston begins.
• May 10: The Second Continental Congress begins in Philadelphia.

• The Constitution of the United States is ratified, officially making the thirteen states united as a single republic.

• March 4: The Constitution of the United States goes into effect.

• December 15: The Bill of Rights is ratified, introducing ten amendments to the Constitution.

1797

• October 21: The USS Constitution is built.
• Fort Adams is renamed Fort Independence at a ceremony presided over by President John Adams.

1798

• The "new" Massachusetts State House is completed, remaining in use until the formation of the Commonwealths in 1969.
• The company Uisce Beatha begins to produce triple-distilled whiskey.

1814

• Washington, D.C. is sacked during the War of 1812.

1816

• May: Hopewell Cave is discovered.

1823

• President James Monroe's administration adopts the Monroe Doctrine, establishing the western hemisphere as the United States' sole sphere of influence and denying European powers the right to interfere.

1845

• Summer: Henry David Thoreau settles at Walden Pond to develop his Transcendentalist philosophy.

1850

• The Dante and Virgil in Hell painting is finished by William-Adolphe Bouguereau. The painting is found in both the ghoul city of Underworld in the Museum of History and at Littlehorn & Associates in the scrapyard office.

1851

• Wildwood Cemetery is established.

1853

• Bleak House by Charles Dickens is written and published.

1854

• The Ticknor and Fields publishing company is founded at the Old Corner Bookstore.

1856

• Grafton is founded.

1858

• The Whitespring Resort is built.

1861

• June 3: The Battle of Philippi takes place as the first land skirmish of the American Civil War, resulting in an Union victory. A battlefield cemetery is subsequently established on the site.

1862

• September 17: The Battle of Antietam takes place, the bloodiest of the American Civil War.
• September 22: President Abraham Lincoln issues the Emancipation Proclamation.

1863

• November 19: President Abraham Lincoln gives the Gettysburg Address.

1865

• April 1: Union forces advance on the Confederate capital of Richmond, Virginia. Confederate forces burn the town before retreating.
• April 9: Confederate general Robert E. Lee surrenders to Union general Ulysses S. Grant, symbolically ending the American Civil War.
• April 14: President Abraham Lincoln is assassinated by Confederate loyalist John Wilkes Booth. He dies the next day.
• April 20: The United States Department of War issues a wanted poster for the capture of John Wilkes Booth.

1866

• Eastern Regional Penitentiary is founded.

1869

• Helvetia is established.

1874

• Jamaica Plain is incorporated into Boston.

• The present day structure for Trinity Church is completed.

• Lorenzo Cabot is imprisoned in Parsons State Insane Asylum by his son, Jack.

• Mary Anderson invents the windshield wiper.
• December 17: Orville and Wilbur Wright fly the Wright Flyer in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.

• The Monongah mining disaster takes place, killing over 300 workers.

1908

• May 10: Grafton becomes the birthplace of Mother's Day.

• February: Bonnie and Clyde begin their crime spree, two days after Vikki and Vance began theirs.

• December 5: Prohibition is repealed.

1935

• Carl C. Magee invents the parking meter.

• The Giant Teapot is built in Appalachia to represent the largest pottery industry in the world.

• September 1: World War II begins.

• December 7: Pearl Harbor is attacked by the Empire of Japan.
• December 11: The United States of America declares war on Nazi Germany.

1942

• Sierra Army Depot is established to store and maintain a defensive supply of military ordnance.

1945

• April 1: The Battle of Okinawa begins, ending 82 days later.
• July 16: The first atomic bomb is detonated by the United States of America as a part of the Trinity Tests.
• August 6: The first atomic bomb is dropped on Hiroshima.
• August 9: The second atomic bomb is dropped on Nagasaki.
• August 14: World War II ends.
• Sometime between then and 1961, the Divergence occurs.

1948

• July 21: A B-29 Superfortress crashes into Lake Mead.

1949

• October 1: The People's Republic of China unifies mainland China.

1952

• The miners monument is constructed in West Virginia.

1960

• July 4: The 50 star flag of the United States of America is adopted.
• Summersville Dam is completed, submerging Gad, West Virginia and creating Summersville Lake.

1961

• May 5: Captain Carl Bell of the United States Space Agency becomes the first human in space. This claim is disputed by both the Soviet Union and China. Bell died when the capsule crashed on its return to Earth.

1965

• The United States enters the Vietnam War.

1967

• December 15: The Silver Bridge collapses. 31 vehicles fall into the Ohio River, killing 46 people. The collapse leads Congress to adopt the National Bridge Inspection Standards next year.

1969

• The United States reorganizes into thirteen commonwealths, adopting a new flag to represent this union.
• July 16: The Valiant 11 mission lands on the Moon. USSA astronauts Richard Wade, Mark Garris, and Michael Hagen become the first humans to walk on a celestial body other than Earth.
• November 14: Valiant 12 lands on the Moon.

1970s

• Poseidon Energy Plant WV-06 is built.

1978

• The Pumpkin House tourist traps begins operation.

1992

• Sierra Army Depot is re-tasked with the demilitarization of surplus ammunition under the the Industrial Operations Command in cooperation with the Environmental Protection Agency

2002

• West Tek is founded.

2003

• Cazadors are purportedly created by Doctor Borous.

2009

• Smitty's is established.

2016

• Wonderglue enters the market.

2020

• The Delta IX rocket is commissioned by the USSA. It becomes the last manned rocket to reach the Moon.
• May 14: Cindy-Lou Kreb begins implementing punitive rules at H&H Tools, Inc. for House Senior.

2021

• Hubris Comics begins publishing.

2022

• Robert House's parents die in an auto gyro accident when it is struck by lightning. Anthony House takes Robert's inheritance from him and begins to run the H&H Tools Company. As the company's head, he begins enacting paranoid policies. The rules become ever more restrictive and bizarre in subsequent years, culminating in a complete mental breakdown by 2077.

• Earliest direct mention of a transistor is made.

2026

• The original Vim! Pop factory burns down and is rebuilt.

2031

• Emilia Butler dies. The Boston city council unanimously votes to have her remains interred within the Old Granary Burying Ground.
• Vault-Tec rebrands Morgantown's local university as Vault-Tec University.

2034

• The Delta IX rocket is converted for military purposes, as a nuclear missile.

2036

• October: The Landview Lighthouse is built.

2037

• The Mister Handy series of robots is first brought to market by General Atomics International.

2039

• An early bug in Mister Handy robot is fixed with a hardware update, with no major problems since then.
• The Mistress of Mystery debuts.

2041

• August 16: Doctor Morrison Rand is abducted by aliens on-board Mothership Zeta.

2042

• John-Caleb Bradberton begins developing Nuka-Cola.
• Mexico City is damaged by a major earthquake. The Mister Handy becomes the leader in sales in Mexico during the cleanup.
• Egret Tours is founded.
• Wilson Atomatoys is founded in Boston, Massachusetts, with Giddyup Buttercup, as its flagship product.
• April 2: The City of Watoga, West Virginia, is founded.
• June 25: RobCo Industries is founded by Robert House.

• Mass Fusion is founded.

• Nuka-Cola enters the market, becoming a nationwide hit within a year.
• The Great Passion Fruit Famine takes place.
• West Tek's X277 "Viper" magnetic rail cannon project is discontinued.

• RobCo Industries becomes one of the most profitable corporations on Earth.
• Shannon Rivers makes her radio debut.

2050

• April 28: The Nuka-World power plant suffers a meltdown.
• May 1: Nuka-World opens to the public with Nuka-Town USA and Kiddie Kingdom.
• Sierra Army Depot is retasked again as a secret research installation for developing and testing robotic, biological and conventional weapons until 2076.

2051

• The United States becomes more aggressive in its foreign policy and imposes economic sanctions on Mexico to protect its oil and business interests, citing Mexico's political instability and pollution as excuse. Eventually, the United States military invades Mexico to secure its oil industry and ensure it continues being exported northwards.
• The N99 10mm pistol becomes standard issue military sidearm, replacing the N80.
• The Weston water treatment plant is built in Boston.
• Shannon Rivers begins voicing the Mistress of Mystery.

2052

• An energy crisis shocks America, prompting the development of alternative fuel sources. REPCONN Aerospace is one of the companies investing in the process.
• A television documentary features husks of Texas oil fields, revealing the depth of the energy crisis to the average American household.
• The last manned American flight to the Moon takes place. The Valiant 12 flag is recovered and removed to Earth.
• Nuka-Cola's Dazzling Blue bottle color is adopted.
• April: Resource Wars begin. Smaller nations go bankrupt as the European Commonwealth declares war on the Middle East in response to rising oil prices.
• May: The United Nations collapse. Nations withdraw from the organization as the organization tries and fails to keep the peace.
• July: The Linden Street slayings of the Pint-Sized Slasher take place.
• July 26: The United Nations is officially disbanded.

2053

• The New Plague emerges, killing tens of thousands. The United States closes its borders and the first-ever national quarantine is declared.
• ZAX 1.0 goes online, developed by Vault-Tec. A prototype for Vault governance system, it is transferred to the Department of Energy to collect resource data. Within a year, it is seized by the military for plague and tactical research, with a derivative, ZAX 1.2, later created for West Tek.
• US Robotics Disposal is founded. Between 2076 and 2077, its East 09B and other disposal grounds receive a series of mysterious and disturbing deliveries of limbless Protectrons, eyeless Eyebots, damaged Robobrains, and eventually a prototype sentry bot dropped off by even more mysterious men in black.
• Shannon Rivers and Frederick Rivers are married.
• December: Tel Aviv is destroyed by a terrorist nuclear weapon late into the year.

2054

• REPCONN Aerospace is founded following the first launch of the Delta IX rocket.
• January: Limited nuclear exchange in the Middle East raises fears throughout the world.
• In light of the European-Middle Eastern War and the plague scare, the United States officially sets Project Safehouse in motion. The project, financed by junk bonds, is designed to create shelters, called Vaults, for the populace in the event of a nuclear war or deadly plague. Construction begins late in 2054 and proceeds rapidly due to advances in construction technology.

2055

• West Tek establishes their Californian facility to continue work on a cure for the New Plague.
• ZAX 1.2 is brought online to regulate conditions in West Tek and assist in research.
• HalluciGen, Incorporated introduce their crowd control gas.
• December 18: Sam and Emily Blackwell are married.

2056

• The Integrated Human Resources Management System v2.3 is published.
• Corvegas are available on the market.
• The Pittsburgh Union Steel Company experiences a workers strike around this time. This would be the last strike for 20 years until 2077.

2057

• The Mistress of Mystery weekly news strip ends.

2058

• Isla Negra Holdings begins to take control of Point Lookout, Maryland as the New Plague devastates the region.
• The Dry Rock Gulch at Nuka-World opens.

2059

• The Anchorage Front Line is established, to enforce American military presence in Alaska and protect its oil reserves. Canada is pressured into allowing permanent military bases to guard the Trans-Alaskan Pipeline.
• The first artificial intelligence is born. Its expansion is quickly halted by memory constraints, but paves the way for future A.I. research.

2060

• Summer: The Olympic Games are held.
• Fuel becomes too precious to waste on automobiles, leading to traffic slowing down worldwide. Electric and fission-powered cars enter the market in limited amounts due to energy shortages. Pressure on fusion research increases.
• The European-Middle Eastern War ends. The exhaustion of oil in the Middle East renders the war moot, with both sides reduced to almost complete ruin.
• The European Commonwealth collapses. Its constituent nations tear each other apart, fighting over the remaining resources. The European Civil War begins.
• Cargobots enter service across Appalachia.
• Bradberton, Massachusetts is founded as a company town for employees of Nuka-World.

2061

• March: Vault 108 begins construction.
• March 17: Allegheny Asylum is shut down.

2062

• The New Plague continues to spread despite government efforts, fueling national paranoia.
• Wan Yang is arrested as a suspect in the Niagara Sabotage.
• May: Construction of Vault 92 begins.
• May, 3rd: A U.F.O. codenamed "Paladine" crashes just north of Hagerstown, Maryland, but could not be recovered.
• October: The Nuka-Girl rocketsuit is released as a Halloween costume.

2063

• August: Most Vaults are completed, with some exceptions. Vault drills begin with increasing frequency, leading to a "cry wolf" effect, gradually reducing turnouts.
• Grognak & the Ruby Ruins and Wastelad are published.

2064

• March: Vault 106 begins construction.

2065

• Robert House concludes that atomic war is a certainty within 15 years and begins to prepare for the aftermath.
• February: Vault 76 begins construction.
• April 14: M.A.R.Go.T. enters service.
• June: A nuclear reactor in New York City almost suffers a supercriticality accident and a meltdown, due to extreme energy demand. Power rationing is instituted, with the incident deemed the Hot Summer.
• August: Power armor development begins to address mobility issues in American mechanized cavalry units. Research grows until 2067 and several prototypes are developed, many of which prove to be unworkable in the field. These prototypes pave the way for future advances in military, construction, and fusion technology.

2066

• The United States Army conducts a test of a next-generation nuclear weapon.
• May: Vault 87 construction begins.
• Spring: China's reliance on fossil fuels in the face of a global oil shortage causes an energy crisis that brings it to the brink of collapse. China becomes more aggressive in its trade talks with the United States, but the talks break down due to American unwillingness to export oil to its communist foes.
• June 24: The United States ends all trade talks, reserving all oil production for domestic use.
• Summer: The first crude fusion cell is unveiled, as a side effect of the power armor project. Fusion power is quickly adopted nationwide, but incorporation into the infrastructure is slow, and never reaches full adoption before the Great War.
• December: China invades Alaska to seize its oil reserves. The United States declares war in response. The Sino-American War begins.
• December: Canada is pressured by the United States to permit military access for American military units. Its initial reluctance raises tensions, while subsequent agreement sets the stage for the Canadian annexation in 2076.
• The USS Ebon Atoll is accidentally sunk by the USS Interference during the Anchorage Campaign, killing all on board. It is one of the worst U.S. Navy disasters since World War II.

2067

• The first power armor is deployed in Alaska, proving effective against Chinese tanks and troops thanks to its ability to carry heavy weapons. China rushes to create its own, but lags behind.
• Nuka-Cola machines are on almost every street in the US.
• September: Safari Adventure at Nuka-World opens. A cloning lab is built beneath the surface to permit inexpensive raising of animals for the zoo.

2068

• May: Vault 92 construction ends.
• Summer: Penelope Hornwright starts work at her father's company.
• November: Vault 112 begins construction.

2069

• US exploits Canadian resources extensively, destroying vast stretches of timberland and stretching other resources to the breaking point. Canada is treated as Little America and Canadian protests are ignored.
• February 11: Patriot's Cookbook is banned by the FBI and all copies slated for destruction.
• March: Vault 13 ends construction. Due to its late completion, the "cry wolf" effect is not as pronounced.
• Summer: Penelope Hornwright interns at Atomic Mining Services.
• October: Vault 76 construction ends.
• December: Vault 106 and Vault 108 construction ends.

2070

• The first Chryslus Motors fusion-powered cars are developed. Big and expensive, they sell out within days. Supply is limited, as many Chryslus plants are soon converted for military production.
• Penelope Hornwright graduates from Vault-Tec University.
• The United States Space Administration launches the Deep Sleep project to test extended hibernation in outer space.

• West Tek Research Facility is put under military command.
• Atomic Command is published.
• December: Vault 87 construction ends.

2072

• Atmospheric counter-espionage is authorized by Congress.
• Vault 79's construction ends. US gold reserves are transferred to it from Fort Knox.
• Galactic Zone opens at Nuka-World, demonstrating RobCo's achievements and Vault-Tec's technologies in service of interplanetary exploration.
• Teddy Fear recalled.
• Journal-It Software and Automatron published.
• Camp McClintock is founded.
• June: The United States Army confirms the development of a "Super Weapon" to liberate Anchorage, Alaska.
• June 3: US exploitation of Canada causes riots in several Canadian cities. Attempted sabotage of the pipeline provides the justification for annexing Canada.
• July 11: Several soldiers are killed at the Ultra-Luxe casino in a botched arrest, after stealing 20 million dollars from their post at Vault 79 and deserting. Sergeant Kathryn Montgomery is found a day later at the Lucky 38 with the bullion. She escapes the city, branded a Chinese spy. She is killed four days later, in the Gulf of Mexico after USS Wade opens fire on her speedboat as she tries to escape the US.

• September 15: Pan-Immunity Virion Project begins to counter Chinese biological weapons.

• United States forces invade mainland China despite claims of fighting a purely defensive war. Extended supply lines cause the offensive to quickly bog down.
• Cambridge Polymer Labs, LLC is founded.
• June: Vault 112 ends construction.

• Skynet becomes self-aware, according to the Fallout Bible.
• RobCo Industries publishes the Unified Operating System.
• RobCo Industries begins the process to buy out REPCONN Aerospace.
• Red Menace is published.
• January 14: BADTFL shuts down a nationwide weapons smuggling ring.
• February 10–15: Dyer Chemical is coerced to produce chemical weapons by the US Army.
• February 14: The Anaheim Jets win Super Bowl CXII; 95-90.
• March: Huntersville receives a rural development grant, rejuvenating the township within three months.
• March 21: PVP is renamed Forced Evolutionary Virus (FEV) after experimental successes with animal cells. Plant cell experiments are postponed indefinitely.
• May: Vault 112 seals.
• May 9: FEV experiments with flatworms produce results. Insect experiments are postponed due to a lack of results.
• May 27: The Whitespring 2080 Initiative begins.
• June: General Brock assumes command of Fort Strong to accelerate its research projects.
• June 30: FEV experiments with white mice yield positive results, with increased size, strength, and intelligence.

• January: Closure of Monongah Mine prompts a sit-in protest by miners. An explosion collapses the mine with them trapped inside. They are pronounced dead by the mine supervisor, likely to avoid a costly rescue operation.
• January: The annexation of Canada is complete. Canadian protesters are shot without trial, military occupation secures the pipeline, and atrocities commited by the American military fuel domestic unrest.
• January 3: West Tek facilities in California are secured by an Army team under Colonel Spindel and Captain Maxson to protect against espionage.
• January 12: FEV experiments on dogs produce increased strength, but not intelligence.
• January 24: James Oberlin assumes liaisoning duties at ATLAS Observatory.
• January 26: FEV experiments on raccoons produce the same results. Raccoons attempt escape. Two pairs succeed.

In exchange, the workers would do all they could to "squeeze just a little bit more out of everyone."
• October 2: A non-depleted Ultracite vein bursts into Welch. AMS moves to seize the town and evict all of its denizens.
• October 3: Automation riots begin due to AMS actions at Welch. Riots spread across Appalachia, responding to years of mistreatment. Facing a territory-wide rebellion, Governor Evans calls in the National Guard, assisted by corporate contractors. Riots escalate to armed confrontations, miner strikes, seizure of corporate property such as the Rockhound, and even direct action, such as attacking Bramwell to topple the Mega Mansions of the wealthy industrialists who own the mines. One is destroyed, but neither the Garrahan nor Hornwright mansions are.
  • Hornwright Industrial shuts down its headquarters and disowns liability for injuries sustained by workers crossing picket lines.

  • 12:03 a.m.: The commander of the United States Pacific Fleet reports 3 Unidentified Submerged Objects off the coast of California to the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
  • 3:37 a.m.: The United States Air Force detects a squadron of airplanes off the coast of the Bering Strait.
  • 9:13 a.m.: The Integrated Operational Nuclear Detection System reports 4 nuclear launches. DEFCON is raised to 2.The National Guard and the National Catastrophe Relief Auxiliary are given a 29-minute warning from the Defense Intelligence Agency about the incoming nuclear strikes. Both organizations put in motion their respective contingency plans, setting up civilian evacuations, relief centers for medical treatment and military checkpoints for radiation clean-up sites.
  • 9:17 a.m.: NORAD confirms the launch of Chinese nuclear missiles. DEFCON is raised to 1.
  • 9:26 a.m.: The United States President orders nuclear response scenario MX-CN91.
  • Fallout 4 prologue begins.
  • AFAD attack Nuka-World, taking a hostage.
  • 9:42 a.m.: First nuclear missiles strike Pennsylvania and New York. The west coast is hit immediately after.
    • News spreads to Washington D.C., prompting citizens to begin entering fallout shelters.
  • 9:47:51 a.m.: The entire United States is bombarded with nuclear warheads. Automated recording systems are forced offline. Within two hours, human civilization is decimated with nuclear weapons. As America and China launch, so do other nuclear powers.
  • The prologue of Fallout Season 1 Episode 1 occurs. Actor Cooper Howard is working as a cowboy performer at Roy Spencer's birthday party in Los Angeles with his daughter Janey when the bombs fall. They race to get to safety on Cooper's horse Sugarfoot.
  • Entire cities, their populations, and military units are wiped out. Salt Lake City is hit by thirteen nuclear warheads. Randall Clark's family is among the casualties. Washington, D.C. suffers a massive attack and the resulting fires consume the city for days. Military losses include relief units under the NCRA, wiped out after being caught in nuclear blasts.
    • In D.C., Carol, who had been rushed into a shelter seconds prior, turns around and sees her father get killed in the blast as he attempted to help a family reach safety. Carol is knocked unconscious.
    • A terminal in the Dunwich Building with an auto-dictation software records the sound of two nuclear bombs exploding.
  • The West Tek Research Facility is hit by warheads, breaking open the F.E.V. tanks on levels four and five and releasing it into the atmosphere. The minute FEV exposure in California later complicates the plans of the Unity.
  • Aircraft are knocked out of the sky by electromagnetic pulses from the nukes. Skylanes Flight 1665 and Skylanes Flight 1981 and many more suffer this fate.
  • The Vaults are sealed.
    • An exception is Vault 12, whose door was intentionally designed to never close. Upon realizing the door remains open, many Bakersfielders attempt to force their way into Vault 12 to protect themselves and their families. However, even those within the Vault end up suffering losses to ghoulification.
    • Vault 31's occupants - all Vault-Tec junior executives as part of the Bud's Buds program, including Hank MacLean and Betty Pearson among others, enter cryogenic suspension under the watch of Bud Askins, who has been converted into a mobile Robobrain, to be awoken in preparation for Vault 32 or 33 needing an overseer as part of a three-vault management breeding experiment.
    • Vault 94 seals due to rising radiation at 1:30 p.m. EST, after Pastor Salavar and her congregation arrive around noon. The second busload of survivors is left outside the door.
    • Vault 111 seals. The Sole Survivor and their family are sealed inside, in cryonic suspension.
  • The Sierra Madre Gala misfires, four days before its intended opening date. The casino seals and the holographic security kills many of the guests. The few scattered survivors eventually commit suicide, including Vera Keyes. Frederick Sinclair dies in his attempt to disarm his traps. The only known survivor is Dean Domino.
  • The Mariposa Military Base survives, the soldiers within protected from the radiation flooding the wasteland.
  • Las Vegas survives together with much of the surrounding area, thanks to countermeasures deployed by Robert House forcibly deactivating 59 of the 77 missiles and shooting down nine more with the Lucky 38's cannons. The Lucky 38's operating systems crash under the strain, leading to five years of fighting power outages and crashes, before House manages to reboot the system with an older version and lapses into a coma.
  • Mothership Zeta of the Zetan aliens observes the nuclear holocaust and abducts Sally and her sister after their parents perish in the attack.
  • 82 students from the Early Dawn Elementary survive the devastation in the Lamplight Caverns, thanks to a school trip that began in early morning.
• October 24: The Boylston Club adds its Memoriam Gala to its October events calendar.
• October 24: The Whitespring Resort is sealed at the orders of the new general manager. The Whitespring guests and staff acclimate.

• June 27: Harold turns into an FEV mutant. He is found in this state by a merchant caravan and returned to the Hub. His degenerating physical state causes him to lose friends and land into poverty.
• July: Richard Grey regains consciousness and reaches the control room, horribly mutating.

Vault 76 celebrates Reclamation Day

• October 23: Fallout 76 begins - Vault 76 opens its doors to the wasteland for Reclamation Day.
• Between October 23 and 29: Reuben Gill escapes from Vault 51.
• October 30: Reuben Gill tries to hack into Vault 51's network from the Shelters Claim Center.
• A Vault 76 resident completes the inoculation project, developing a vaccine against the Scorched Plague.
• Rose boosts her radio signal at the Top of the World with the help of a Vault Dweller.
• The Scorched Detection System is finished by a Vault Dweller using the recordings of the dead creators.

• November: A human scavenger strays into the Mariposa military base. Grey reflexively consumes him, assimilating his inferior mind.
• December: Grey continues to modify himself by injecting FEV into various areas of his mutated body and forms a neurolink with the base's computer. He starts experiments on scavengers who wander into the base, but the results are unsatisfactory and he consumes them for food.
• December 7: Reuben Gill finally hacks into Vault 51's network, alerting ZAX. He flees, trying to get as far away from Vault 51 as possible.
• Late December: Reuben Gill encounters a Vault Dweller and seeks their assistance in destroying ZAX. He ends up dying under unknown circumstances shortly thereafter.
• A Vault Dweller investigates rumors of the sheepsquatch, a cryptid seen in pre-war Appalachia. They discover that a cryptid hunter had created a robotic imposter sheepsquatch, which went on a violent rampage. A team of Vault Dwellers track down this robot and destroy it.
• Vault 76 residents prevent a series of disasters - including a flood and a nuclear meltdown - from further damaging the now-abandoned Vault 94.
• The Vault Dwellers make a coordinated effort to hunt down and exterminate the remaining scorchbeasts and Scorched, killing many of them and significantly reducing their numbers.

• 2103-2130: The Master begins to gather test subjects from local human communities. The process is slow, hampered by their scarcity, which ends this stage of his work.
• January: Grey finally isolates radiation exposure as the factor that was affecting transformation success rates. The first successful super mutant is assimilated by Grey as a fellow mind, creating the Master hive mind. The plans for the Unity begin.

Two groups, the Raiders and Settlers, create the settlements of the Crater and Foundation respectively. The Blue Ridge Caravan Company sets up shop at both ends of Big Bend Tunnel.

• August: The Secret Service performs reactor maintenance on Vault 79's dual reactor system, but a malfunction occurs, turning most Secret Service agents into ghouls.

• October: An USSA spaceship crashes in the Mire. Its sole survivor, Commander Sofia Daguerre, puts out a distress call across Appalachia.

• A Vault Dweller helps the Wayward open for business, dealing with the Free Radicals and finding Crane's treasure in the process.

• The Vault Dwellers, with the help of either the Settlers or Raiders, break into Vault 79. They make a deal with the Secret Service, repairing Vault 79's reactors in exchange for the gold.
• Vault 76 residents fire a nuke at the collapsed Monongah Mine in order to blast open a path to the buried mine shafts. While exploring the mine, they're attacked by Earle Williams - a trapped miner who mutated into a wendigo colossus - and forced to kill him.
• The Brotherhood First Expeditionary Force's radio broadcast becomes audible in Appalachia. Responding to it, Russell Dorsey begins to fortify the ATLAS Observatory in preparation for their arrival, with help from the Vault Dwellers and a number of reprogrammed construction protectrons. Thanks to their assistance, the new Fort Atlas is finished later that year.
• Vernon Dodge finds out about the Expeditionary Force en route to Appalachia. He begins trying to establish a groundwork to support them, and recruits Vault Dwellers to help him clear out abandoned Brotherhood outposts.
• Steel Dawn begins: The Expeditionary Force, led by Paladin Leila Rahmani and Knight Daniel Shin, arrives in Appalachia. They occupy Fort Atlas, re-establish Brotherhood presence in Appalachia, and begin recruiting. Some of the Vault Dwellers join the new Brotherhood as probationary Initiates.
• A Vault Dweller helps the Brotherhood retrieve missing weapons that've wound up in the hands of Raiders and Settlers.
• Paladin Rahmani and Knight Shin take control of an Enclave low-frequency transmitter, which would allow them to establish communications with the Brotherhood Elders in Lost Hills. However, Rahmani destroys the transmitter instead, causing Shin to turn against her.
• The Brotherhood defends Fort Atlas from a super mutant attack. Rahmani and Shin agree to work together until the mutant threat is dealt with.

Dr. Edgar Blackburn attacks the Brotherhood leaders

• Following the attack on Fort Atlas, Super Mutants become an increasingly common problem, assaulting all human settlements in Appalachia.
• February 23: Fasnacht Day celebrations are held by Vault Dwellers in Appalachia.
• October 23: Steel Reign begins: The Brotherhood tries to find the source of the new super mutants.
• The Brotherhood also investigates a series of unusual disappearances. They find out that Dr. Edgar Blackburn has been kidnapping people for his FEV experiments and turning them into Super Mutants.
• Brotherhood forces rescue the surviving captives and confront Dr. Blackburn. He inadvertently transforms himself into a super mutant behemoth using a "perfected" strain of FEV, forcing them to kill him. Shin attempts to execute Blackburn's assistants, but Rahmani believes they should continue their research under Brotherhood supervision, bringing their conflict to a breaking point. With the help of a Vault Dweller, one becomes the Expeditionary Force's undisputed leader, while the other is removed from the picture.
• Vault Dwellers help the Enlightened, a benign splinter group of Mothman worshippers, perform a ritual to summon the Wise Mothman.
• Zetan aliens invade Appalachia, setting up brainwave siphons to steal information from human minds, but the Vault Dwellers manage to drive them off.
• The Rust Eagles (an offshoot of the Blood Eagles focused on robotics) construct the Metal Dome, an arena where they hold robot gladiator battles.
• A team of Brotherhood soldiers participate in the Rust Eagles' arena battles in order to gather intelligence on the combat robots there.
• Expeditions: The Pitt begins: The Responders group re-establish themselves, building a refuge for civilians in the Whitespring Resort. Using a repaired Vertibird, they make contact with the Union, a group of survivors in the ruins of Pittsburgh.
• Some Vault Dwellers travel to Pittsburgh (now known as "the Pitt") to help the Union take the city back from a marauding raider cult, the Fanatics.
• Nuka-World on Tour, a traveling carnival, sets up shop in the Ash Heap region of Appalachia.
• Vault Dwellers investigate reports of a gigantic underground creature spotted near the carnival, and learn that it resides under a local mine shaft. They nuke the mine to force it out into the open, where they're able to kill it.
• The Blue Ridge Caravan Company expands its operations in Appalachia. The Vault Dwellers help defend Blue Ridge territory and shipments, and assist the company's employees with various personal problems.
• A Vault Dweller helps Calvin van Lowe reunite with his step-nephew, Carver Timmerman.

• The settlement at Grindstone Arch in Shenandoah National Park is overrun by super mutants.
• Expeditions: Atlantic City begins: Some Vault dwellers travel to Atlantic City on the Responders' vertibird. They help the Lombardi family fend off a violent "audit" by the Munis and Showmen, and also compete in The Most Sensational Game.
• Skyline Valley begins: A mysterious incident leads to the formation of a giant storm over the Skyline Valley region in southern Appalachia, as well as the door of Vault 63 in the Ash Heap being flung all the way into the Forest. Their voice is picked up by an automatic audio transcription terminal, its first activation since the War. Over the next several weeks, they experience ghoulification. • The Brotherhood begins a full-scale campaign of extermination against the Vipers. Within a month, the raiders are broken as a fighting force, with many fleeing to the north and east. • The Van Graffs led by Gloria Van Graff come to Freeside, taking over the Silver Rush and maintaining the claim with plasma weapons. The Brotherhood ignores their possession of energy weapons under orders from Elder Elijah.
• Horace Pinkerton enters Vault 112 and salvages computer parts, acquiring a memory chip for a circuit neuralizer.
• DiMA kills Captain Avery and replaces her with a synth to establish better relations between Acadia and Far Harbor.
• October: After months of guerrilla warfare, the NCR carries out Operation: Sunburst. The Mojave Brotherhood chapter is routed and forced to flee HELIOS One. Elder Elijah deserts the group and disappears, with Head Paladin Nolan McNamara assuming command and leading a retreat to Hidden Valley.
• October 2: William Brandice moves to Grayditch with his family after deserting from the Enclave at Navarro.
• November 15: Weston Lesko appears in Grayditch, moving in with the Wilks family. He soon relocates into a shack nearby.

• Caesar's Legion moves into the Mojave, setting up at Fortification Hill.
• The Courier delivers a mysterious package obtained by the NCR at Navarro to The Divide. After their departure, the package activates, sending launch commands to missiles hidden in the silos beneath Ashton and Hopeville. The NCR and Legion forces that clashed as the Legion cut supply lines to the Mojave are trapped amid underground nuclear detonations and savage winds stemming from Big MT meteoroligcal experiments. The region becomes a ruin known as the Divide, stalked by marked men.
• The First Battle of Hoover Dam takes place. Caesar's Legion forces under Joshua Graham attempt to take Hoover Dam from the NCR. Although the attack is successful, the NCR eliminates Legion commanders and lures the bulk of Legion forces into Boulder City, blowing up the town. The Legion is routed. Caesar punishes Graham for failure: His Praetorians set Graham alight and toss him into the Grand Canyon. Graham survives his punishment and makes his way to New Canaan, adopting the name "The Burned Man".
• Rex is lost during the First Battle of Hoover Dam, after fighting for Caesar's Legion. Damaged from the battle, he is found by a scavenger and sold to The King. The Followers of the Apocalypse restore him to working order.
• Boppo's raiders attack Megaton, but are routed after Lucas Simms kills their leader.
• Weston Lesko begins his experimentas at Marigold station, attempting to decrease the size of giant ants. He only succeeds in turning them into fire ants, leading to the destruction of Grayditch.
• August 17, 09:04: Fallout 3 prologue ends and Fallout 3 begins - James disappears from Vault 101 and his son/daughter, the Lone Wanderer (aged 19), heads to the surface to search for him.
• The Lone Wanderer enters Megaton in search of their Father and meets Moira Brown at the Craterside Supply. Moira with the help of the Lone Wanderer, writes the Wasteland Survival Guide. The book becomes so widely used that it migrates across the United States, with copies turning up in the Mojave Wasteland as early as 2281 by way of caravans.
• October 23: The planned completion date for Vault 13's assigned experiment in prolonged isolation.
• The Lone Wanderer's father, sacrifices himself at Project Purity to thwart Colonel Autumn's attempt to commandeer the facility.
• Marcus settles down at Black Mountain at the head of a small community super mutants , hoping to create a safe-heaven for super mutants.^{[citation needed]}
• The Lone Wanderer embarks on a search for a Garden of Eden Creation Kit.
• The Brotherhood Outcasts seek assistance when trying to recover technology from the Virtual Strategic Solutions facility in the Capital Wasteland. The Lone Wanderer arrives and assists them as part of the Anchorage Reclamation simulation.
• Wernher travels to the Capital Wasteland from The Pitt, seeking assistance to free "his" people from their oppressors and encounters the Lone Wanderer, who decides the fate of the slaves and changes the destiny of The Pitt and Ishmael Ashur forever.
• Fallout 3 ends - The Lone Wanderer activates Project Purity and the Capital Wasteland is changed forever. Lyons' Brotherhood of Steel begins to distribute Aqua Pura. Liberty Prime is lost in the subsequent mop-up operations against the Enclave, but the Enclave itself is defeated and loses Adams Air Force Base to the Brotherhood.
• Madison Li abandons the Brotherhood in disgust, and travels to the Commonwealth.
• The Duchess Gambit travels down the Potomac River and docks to the southeast of Alexandria Arms. The ferryman offers wastelanders a chance to travel to Point Lookout. The Lone Wanderer embarks on a journey to seek out pre-War treasures, but instead discovers a feud between two parties from before the War.
• The Earth is saved by the Lone Wanderer from an alien threat, an alien mothership named Zeta.
• Vault 81 opens its door to the Commonwealth, inviting communication and much-needed trade with any friendly settlements. This move is made out of dire necessity for food and parts to maintain the 200-year-old Vault as there is still a great deal of isolationist sentiment amongst the population.
• The Fall of Shady Sands begins.
• Vault 33 has a "Great Plague" that causes everyone to quarantine. This leaves the dwellers unable to work the farms. People starved, specially Rose MacLean was affected, and Hank MacLean drops to 128 lbs.

• Tabitha drives out Marcus and those loyal to him from Black Mountain and establishes the State of Utobitha. Marcus relocates to Mount Charleston, founding Jacobstown in honor of his old friend.
• Following the abduction and killing of four soldiers, NCR troops attack the Great Khans' settlement at Bitter Springs. The resulting Bitter Springs Massacre claims the lives of Great Khan non-combatants: Men, women, and children, but goes unreported in NCR press.
• Elder Nolan McNamara begins sending out small patrols from Hidden Valley, for the first time since the Brotherhood's defeat at HELIOS One.
• Elder Owyn Lyons dies. His daughter, Sentinel Sarah Lyons, becomes elder. Her subsequent death in combat leaves Lyons' Brotherhood of Steel adrift under the ineffectual rule of elected elders.

• A sergeant is ordered by her commanding officer Ronald Curtis to flog new recruits for desertion and refuses, leading to an administrative discharge from Bravo Company. She and other veterans establish an informal network trading arms and offering unofficial assistance to the New California Republic Army's grunts.
• Craig and Carla Boone move to Novac at the suggestion of Manny Vargas. Vargas and Craig form the town guard.
• Robert House's expenses seeking the platinum chip total 812,545 caps for this year. The cumulative expenditure over the decades equals millions.
• Dermot and Saint James begin enslaving and selling women and children as sex slaves to the Fiends.

• April: A 1st Recon squad under Lt. Gorobets is deployed to Camp McCarran and placed under the command of Major Dhatri to assassinate the Fiends' leaders.
• To gain favor with Caesar's Legion, the White Legs tribe razes New Canaan with the guidance of the frumentarius Ulysses. in the hopes of joining their ranks. The New Canaanite survivors are scattered across Utah.
• Summer: Operation: Racket begins. Legion emissaries bribe the Omertas' leaders, stoking their anti-House and NCR sentiment in order to instigate a coup to weaken the New Vegas Strip prior to their assault.
• August: Around this time, Caesar's malignant brain tumor begins causing mild headaches, only growing worse with every day and soon starts affecting his motor functions and coordination. He is unaware of the cause and has few reliable means to diagnose, much less treat it.
• August: Beagle becomes the deputy of Primm thanks to his sister marrying the incumbent sheriff.
• September: Cassidy Caravans is raided by an unknown group of assailants for unknown reasons. The owner Rose of Sharon Cassidy was not with her caravan at the time, but word reached her while she is stuck at the Mojave Outpost.
• September: The NCRCF prison break occurred around this time. Prisoners incarcerated at the NCR Correctional Facility used a supply of dynamite to kill their guards and seize control of the prison. Afterwards, the convicts split up into separate groups: one led by Samuel Cooke went north and settled in Vault 19. Another went south and attacked the town of Primm, taking over the Bison Steve Hotel. Eddie reorganized the rest into keeping control of the NCRCF, calling themselves the Powder Gangers.
• September: Frumentarius Karl goes on a mission to Red Rock Canyon to broker a deal between the Great Khans and Caesar's Legion. He manipulated the Khans, leaving them unaware of what joining the Legion would mean for their tribe while stoking their anti-NCR vendetta.
• Carla Boone is abducted from Novac and sold to Caesar's Legion along with her unborn child. Her husband Craig Boone tracks her down to the Legion port at Cottonwood Cove. Unable to rescue her, he makes the decision to kill her with a headshot to spare her living horribly as a slave.
• Raul Tejada travels to Black Mountain to investigate the sudden lack of broadcasts coming from Black Mountain Radio where he's captured by Tabitha and the State of Utobitha, but is spared when he offers his mechanical expertise to fix the radio technology. He is imprisoned and forced to perform repairs for the community on frequent threats of death.
• A pack of Deathclaws overrun Quarry Junction after the Powder Gangers steal Sloan's dynamite supply. Mining operations halt and Interstate 15 is shut down due to their presence.
• A scavenger team working for House finally recovers the intact platinum chip in Sunnyvale. House organizes a delivery, using decoy couriers and spending tens of thousands of caps on mercenary screenings to ensure its safe passage to New Vegas. 5 of the 6 are dummy packages of novelty junk, but one Courier is given the platinum chip with orders to deliver the package to the The Strip North Gate by way of Freeside.
• October 5: Knight Christine Royce, sent by the Circle of Steel to kill Father Elijah, is trapped in an Auto-Doc in the Sierra Madre Villa clinic. She remains trapped for two weeks, suffering a looping medical procedure until the Courier arrives.
• October: Courier Six takes a job from the Mojave Express and is elected the one to carry the platinum chip after another courier backed out. The Courier travels from southern NCR, through the Hub to reach the Mojave, and makes their way to the Goodsprings area, unaware they were walking into a trap.
• October 8–11: With the help of the modified Securiton, Yes Man, the rogue leader of the Chairmen, Benny plans to intercept the Courier's delivery, steal the chip and use it for his own ends. He hires Jessup, McMurphy, Chance and several other Great Khans to assist him in the ambush. During the on-foot trek, however, Chance loses his life to wounds sustained during an attack by the Fiends and a fatal drug overdose secretly orchestrated by Benny.
• October 11: Fallout: New Vegas intro - The Courier is captured, robbed, then shot twice in the head by Benny. After being left for dead in a shallow unmarked grave in the Goodsprings Cemetery, Victor retrieves them, delivering them to Doc Mitchell for medical care, though they remain unconscious for 8 days.
• October 12: Joe Cobb's raiding party attacks a group of Crimson Caravan traders on the Long 15. One survivor, Ringo escapes and flees to Goodsprings, pursued by the Powder Gangers.
• October 19, 08:00: Fallout: New Vegas begins - The Courier regains consciousness and leaves Doc Mitchell's house in Goodsprings to try and hunt down Benny and regain the platinum chip.
• The frumentarius Vulpes Inculta leads a group of Legionnaires to attack Nipton, instigating a sadistic "lottery" on those they captured after killing all NCR soldiers, Powder Gangers, and local denizens through beheading or crucifixion. There are ultimately two survivors: Boxcars, who was crippled by getting his legs broken, and Oliver Swanick, the only person let go unharmed.
• New California Republic Senate elections are due soon. Representatives from the Boneyard block further military funding to gain votes from voters dissatisfied with the lack of progress in the Mojave Campaign.
• The Courier is lured to the Sierra Madre through the abandoned BoS bunker. Captured by Dog, they awake in the Villa, and are forced by rogue Elder Elijah to assemble a team and carry out a heist targeting the casino's vault. The Courier outsmarts Elijah and escapes to the Mojave, letting the Sierra Madre go.
• The Happy Trails Caravan Company organizes a caravan to Zion, under Jed Masterson, to link up with New Canaanites there. The caravan is ambushed, leaving the Courier as the sole survivor. They join Joshua Graham and Daniel, overcoming the White Legs in the conflict with the Sorrows and Dead Horses.
• A satellite crashes in the Mojave Drive-in. The Courier once more investigates, and is transported to Big Mountain. They are lobotomized and reduced to the state of a walking cadaver briefly, until they meet the Think Tank and are embroiled in a decades-old conflict with Mobius. They ultimately prevail, returning to the Mojave with spoils of Science!
• Ulysses draws the Courier onto the Lonesome Road. The two couriers confront each other at the edge of the world, beneath an Old World flag, and decide the fate of the Legion and the New California Republic.
• Unable to find good work to support his son Duncan, Robert MacCready leaves the Capital Wasteland for the Commonwealth where he joins up with the Gunners for a time, something he came to regret.

• Fallout: New Vegas ends - In the Second Battle of Hoover Dam, the Courier who had cheated death in the cemetery outside Goodsprings, cheated death once again, and the Mojave Wasteland is forever changed.
• Arthur Maxson is named elder of Eastern Brotherhood of Steel, after victory over Shepherd, a mutant warlord. The West officially recognizes the eastern Brotherhood once again.
• The Prydwen is completed at Adams Air Force Base.
• McDonough wins the mayoral election at Diamond City. His first act of office is the Anti-ghoul decree of 2282, leading to a pogrom of Diamond City ghouls.
• General Joe Becker dies at some point before May of this year.

• Fall of Shady Sands: Following six years of decline, Shady Sands is destroyed by a nuclear weapon.
• Arthur Maxson reunites the Brotherhood Outcasts with his chapter. Lyons' Brotherhood of Steel is reorganized into a new Eastern division and Maxson becomes the Supreme Commander of the Brotherhood of Steel.
• Liam Binet of the Institute contacts the Railroad and starts organizing synth escapes, using the codename Patriot.

• Recon Squad Artemis is the second Brotherhood team to arrive in the Commonwealth. They are attacked by an unknown party, routed, and eventually killed off. Paladin Brandis is the only survivor of the squad.
• Tinker Tom decodes Patriot's messages, and the Railroad begins working with him.

• Early August: Jacqueline Spencer finds a hard drive with research into reactor efficiency at University Point. She attempts to sell it to a caravan, drawing the attention of The Institute.
• August 12: The Institute demands the hard drive from University Point. The mayor refuses, against the wishes of town residents.
• Late August: The Institute attacks and destroys University Point.

• Brian Virgil is assigned as head of the Institute's FEV Lab after Dr. C. Syverson's passing.
• Spring: Porter Gage and Colter rally the Disciples, the Operators and The Pack together.
• April 11: Gage and Colter's raiders conquer Nuka-World, enslaving the local traders. Colter names himself the Overboss and keeps Porter Gage as his right hand man. Survivors flee Nuka-Town USA to the Galactic Zone, but are killed off when Kendell Alston activates the Galactic Zone robot's defensive mode: Missing star cores cause the mainframe to enable its fail-deadly, with robots turning on all humans within the park.
• Rachel Watkins leaves Kiddie Kingdom to find a cure for feral ghouls. Oswald the Outrageous remains behind to defend Kiddie Kingdom. Her work fails when she starts going feral and commits suicide to protect others.
• Winter: After performing experiments on his followers for several weeks, the Last Son of Atom launches a holy war against the settlements of the Commonwealth, destroying several communities.
• Late Winter: Mechminster Abbey is destroyed by the forces of the Church. The Last Son is either killed or driven west. The rolling city of Mirage leaves the Commonwealth.

• Summer: Colter establishes the Gauntlet to sate the raiders' bloodthirst when he fails to annex the rest of Nuka-World.
• Fall: The Gauntlet runs its course and the raiders again become dissatisfied with Colter's leadership. Gage secretly forms an alliance with the heads of the three raider clans, preparing a trap for Colter. Nisha provides the weapon to disable Colter's power armor, while Gage arranges a ruse to attract their unwitting assassin.
• Recon Squad Gladius, the third of the Brotherhood's scout teams and led by Paladin Danse, arrives in the Commonwealth, setting up base within the Cambridge Police Station. Due to a string of bad luck, four of the seven members are killed within weeks of arrival.
• The Institute carries out a series of attacks against safehouses operated by the Railroad, including purging their headquarters at the Switchboard. Once again, the Railroad is nearly wiped out.
• Theodore Croup is killed in the basement of his family's home by the feral, ghoulified remnants of his family after two hundred years of attempting to help them regain their humanity.
• The Quincy Massacre takes place as Gunners rout the small group of Minutemen defending the city and massacre most of the town's population. The survivors flee into the wasteland with Preston Garvey, losing most of their number in the long retreat to Concord.

The Sole Survivor returning to Sanctuary

• October 23: 9:00 a.m. Fallout 4 begins – Two hundred and ten years after the Great War, the Sole Survivor awakens from cryogenic suspension, leaving Vault 111 in search of their son, Shaun.
• Nick Valentine is rescued from his imprisonment in Vault 114 by the Sole Survivor.
• Conrad Kellogg is killed by the Sole Survivor in Fort Hagen.
• The Prydwen arrives in the Commonwealth, as Arthur Maxson deploys the full force of the Brotherhood of Steel in response to the confirmed presence of the Institute.
• The War of the Commonwealth begins.
• The Sole Survivor enters the Glowing Sea and tracks down Doctor Brian Virgil, a former Institute scientist, gaining information on how to enter the Institute.
• A courser designated Z2-47 tracks down K1-98, a runaway synth in Greenetech Genetics and is contested by a contingent of Gunners while being pursued by the Sole Survivor in a three-way battle. Most of the Gunners are wiped out and Z2-47 is killed by the Sole Survivor, who takes the Courser chip it had in order to enter the Institute.
• After decoding the chip with the help of the Railroad, the Sole Survivor enlists the help of one of the three major factions to construct a signal interceptor and hijack the Institute's teleporter to enter themselves. They meet their son Shaun, who is now an old man and the Director of the Institute.
• The Sole Survivor becomes a trump card in the war between the Brotherhood, Institute, Railroad, and Minutemen, and ultimately resolves the War of the Commonwealth for one of the four factions.
• The Sole Survivor helps the robot Ada avenge the deaths of her human friends and put a stop to the robot threat orchestrated by the Mechanist.
• The Sole Survivor travels to the Island near Maine in search of a missing girl, where they resolve the conflict between the Children of Atom, Far Harbor, and Acadia.
• The Sole Survivor works with Valery Barstow on her series of experiments and constructs a new settlement within Vault 88.
• The Sole Survivor travels to Nuka-World, making it through the Gauntlet and defeats Overboss Colter with the help of Porter Gage, after which they are offered the vacant position of Overboss.

• March 17: Steph Harper of Vault 33 marries Bert, a man traded to Vault 33 as a "breeder" from Vault 32.
• Vault 32 fails when all its residents kill each other or commit suicide after discovering the truth about Vault 31.

• Season 1 of the Fallout TV series begins - During Vault 33's Triennial Trade, Lee Moldaver and her troops infiltrate Vault 33 in the guise of Vault 32 dwellers coming to celebrate Lucy MacLean's marriage, slaughtering many residents and kidnapping the overseer, Hank MacLean.
• Lucy MacLean leaves Vault 33 in search for her father.
• Enclave scientist Dr. Siggi Wilzig successfully creates a sample of cold fusion technology. He later goes rogue and escapes the Enclave research facility he works at, taking his dog CX404 and the technology sample.
• The Brotherhood of Steel hears about Dr. Wilzig's escape and commences a mission in search of Dr. Wilzig and his technology. Other factions also hear of this event, and a large bounty is set on Dr. Wilzig.
• Aspirant Maximus joins the search operation of Dr. Wilzig as a squire under the command of Knight Titus. The Ghoul, a bounty hunter, also starts to hunt him down in order to claim the bounty.

• Following the kidnapping of Hank MacLean and Vault 33's recovery from the raider attack the previous year, Betty Pearson is elected as the Vault's new overseer. She initiates a reassignment program, moving many of Vault 33's dwellers to Vault 32 to repopulate the destroyed Vault, with Steph Harper declared as its overseer.
• Lucy successfully brings Dr. Wilzig's head containing his cold fusion technology to the New California Republic headquarters at the Griffith Observatory, intending to exchange it for her father's freedom. Instead, she learns from Moldaver the truth behind her father's identity, her mother's death, and the destruction of Shady Sands in the process.
• Norman MacLean discovers the truth about Vault 31 and is locked inside by its overseer, pre-War Vault-Tec executive Bud Askins.
• The Brotherhood occupy the town of Filly, and later attack and defeat the New California Republic remnants led by Moldaver at the Griffith Observatory, seizing control of the observatory and the cold fusion technology.
• Season 1 of the Fallout TV series ends - The Ghoul, CX404 and Lucy start to hunt for Hank MacLean, who has escaped to the Mojave Wasteland.
