* This quest can be side-stepped if your [[Strength]], [[Small Guns]], [[Big Guns]], [[Energy Weapons]] or [[Melee Weapons]] is high enough to threaten Winthrop into giving you 10 stimpaks and 10 rad away. There is no way to get any rad-X out of Winthrop. Should you threaten him, there is also no way you can turn in Scrap Metal.

This Old House refers to an unmarked and repeatable quest in Fallout 3.

Speak with Winthrop in the Underworld at the Museum of History to unlock the option to bring him 5 pieces of scrap metal to exchange for 1 stimpak, 1 rad away, or 1 rad-X. This quest is very similar to Walter's Scrap Metal.

Notes

  • This quest can be side-stepped if your Strength, Small Guns, Big Guns, Energy Weapons or Melee Weapons is high enough to threaten Winthrop into giving you 10 stimpaks and 10 radaway. There is no way to get any rad-X out of Winthrop. Should you threaten him, there is also no way you can turn in scrap metal.
  • Casdin and the Outcasts will offer you a better deal on stimpaks and rad away; only 2 hunks of scrap per item.
  • This does not award experience for turning in scrap metal, unlike Walter's scrap metal.

Behind the scenes

  • This quest is probably a reference to the American home improvement magazine and television series, This Old House.

Bugs

  • Sometimes, this quest may be permanently disabled, as when you show up and offer him scrap metal, the only available option for what to tell him is that you don't have any (regardless of whether you do or not; this also happens even if you didn't intimidate him into giving you supplies for free). [verification overdue]
