The Thirst Zapper is a weapon in Fallout 76, introduced in the Nuka-World on Tour update.

Characteristics[]

The Thirst Zapper is a squirt gun in the shape of a Nuka-Cola bottle. The basic Thirst Zapper has unlimited ammunition, but can be modified to shoot explosive Nuka-Cola bottles. When modified, the gun gains a significant damage buff, but also becomes very slow, becoming roughly equivalent to a black powder pistol. Compared to the pistol, a modified Thirst Zapper deals more damage, and benefits from Demolition Expert regardless of its legendary perks.

Legendary effects[]

Notes[]

  • Although the weapon initially deals 0 damage, any damage boosting effects (perks, legendary mods, drinks, chems, etc.) will increase damage by the same amount as 10mm pistol would be increased.
  • Scrapping the weapon grants a 25% chance to learn how to craft it.
  • A Thirst Zapper can be used at Nuka-Zapper Race to increase the bottle speed.
  • A Thirst Zapper modified to shoot Weaponized Nuka-Cola Quantum can have a base damage of over 1,000 per shot with the proper build synergies, effectively turning it into a souped-up black powder pistol. With the two shot legendary effect (normally not possible, but it is able to spawn as of the Milepost Zero update), the damage can actually exceed that of a Fat Man.
  • Each modification also changes the range and explosion radius of its projectiles, with the Nuka-Cola modification having the worst and the Nuka-Quantum modification having the best.
  • Despite looking like a pistol and firing like one, the Thirst Zapper's damage is not increased by Gunslinger.
  • The explosion from Nuka-Cola ammo is affected by Grenadier. However, it is not recommended to use it with this, as the explosions become extremely massive (particularly with Quantum ammo) and the user can very easily blow themselves up with it.

Behind the scenes[]

During development, the systems design team attempted to make it so that being shot with water from a Thirst Zapper would replenish the thirst meter of the person being shot. However, there were technical issues with implementing this, so it did not go through.[Non-game 1]

Bugs[]

  • PCPC Playstation 4Playstation 4 Xbox OneXbox One Upon release, the base Thirst Zapper extended its unlimited ammo replenishment perk to any equipped throwable weapons (grenades and mines), allowing unlimited throwable weapons and the duplication of mines[patched][Non-game 2][Non-game 3]
  • PCPC If the player fires a Thirst Zapper converted to use weaponized ammo and quickly switches to a different hotkeyed weapon, the player will not be able to change from first-person view to third-person and cannot switch to other hotkeyed weapons using the numbered keys they are bound to; this can only be achieved by manually using the hotkey wheel to equip the desired weapon. This bug can be fixed by re-equipping the Thirst Zapper (if it is hotkeyed) and reloading it.[verified]
  • PCPC Upon firing a weaponized Thirst Zapper and quickly switching to a hotkeyed weapon, the Nuka-Cola bottle used in the Thirst Zapper's reload animation appears stuck in the player's left forearm until they switch back and reload the Thirst Zapper.[verified]
