The Thirst Zapper is a weapon in the Fallout 4 add-on Nuka World.

Characteristics[]

An "energy" weapon that "fires" a squirt of water, with a handle and a barrel in the shape of a Nuka-Cola bottle.

It initially does no direct damage at all, thus not feasible as an actual weapon except for two circumstances: the Thirst Zapper is the only weapon that can affect the electrical field of Colter's power armor during Taken for a Ride, removing its severe damage-reduction effect. It can also be used in three of the Nuka-Cade games: Bandit Roundup, Whac-a-Commie, or Nuka-Zapper Race to earn Nuka-Cade tickets.

The basic Thirst Zapper has unlimited ammunition in a sense, unequipping and re-equipping the Thirst Zapper adds a new batch of "ammunition" to the Sole Survivor's inventory. Upon re-equipping the Thirst Zapper, a reload animation similar to that of its modified variants will play showing the player character pouring a bottle's contents into an opening that strongly resembles a bottle opener.

Upgrading[]

The Thirst Zapper's usefulness as an actual weapon can be enhanced by finding the Project Cobalt schematics in the secure beverageer lab within the World of Refreshment (only accessible after turning on the power at the Nuka-World power plant following Power Play or Open Season), which unlocks new options at the weapon workbench allowing it to shoot weaponized Nuka-Cola, Nuka-Cherry, and Nuka-Cola Quantum, at ascending levels of damage dealt (with requisite levels in Gun Nut and Science!).

When used in V.A.T.S., shots with the Thirst Zapper will automatically track towards an enemy, similar to that of the missile launcher with the targeting computer mod.

Locations[]

  • One is obtained as a mandatory objective during Taken for a Ride.
  • Two can be found inside the Nuka-Cade (respawns after some time away).
  • One can be found in the secure beverageer lab, next to the Project Cobalt schematics.
  • One can be found in Kiddie Kingdom, on the counter of the Nuka-Zapper Race stand.

Notes[]

  • The Thirst Zapper is advertised on billboards in the Commonwealth as a "Nuka Blaster" and would come free with every box of Nuka-Cola purchased. One such billboard is located on the eastern edge of the Red Rocket truck stop.
  • When using the Quantum modification, the Thirst Zapper can do as much damage as a Fat Man on certain occasions.
  • Regardless of equipped modification, the Thirst Zapper always benefits from Demolition Expert.
  • Despite the Nuka-Cola modification dealing radiation damage, the damage output is not affected by Nuclear Physicist.
  • The Thirst Zapper cannot be stored on a weapon rack.
  • Despite having the appearance of a pistol, the damage output is not affected by Gunslinger.
  • In survival mode, the ammunition for the Thirst Zapper has a weight of 0.010. Picking up or equipping the Thirst Zapper will add 999 units of ammunition to the player's inventory, for a total weight of 10. This ammunition is not visible in the Pip-Boy and cannot be dropped or transferred.

Bugs[]

PCPC In survival mode, after dropping or otherwise removing the Thirst Zapper from your inventory, the ammunition will not be removed, and will continue to take up weight in your inventory. [verified]

  • This can be prevented by firing the gun until you run out of ammunition before dropping or transferring it.
