Any living creature you kill has a 50% chance to have the potent healing items Thin Red Paste or Blood Sausage when looted.— In-game description

Them's Good Eatin' is a perk in the Fallout: New Vegas add-on Old World Blues.

Effects[]

Taking this perk grants a 50% chance of thin red paste and/or blood sausages appearing when searching the corpses of organic enemies as well as unlocks the recipes for thick red paste and black blood sausage at the campfire.

Notes[]

  • On a given corpse, there can be 1-3 individual units of each item if/when spawned.
  • The perk can be a source of significant amounts of caps, as both items have a very high value for their weight (125 and 175 per unit, respectively).
  • The HP restoration provided by the consumable items is powerful, especially when combined with other potent items. For example, the craftable black blood sausage alone grants a rate of regeneration well above the already powerful regeneration granted by taking Rad Child, of which does not provide the max health bonuses that the items spawned by this perk also provide.
  • Both of the consumables are not marked as food items in the game. As such, their effects do not increase along with one's Survival skill level nor do they count towards food-related achievements.

Behind the scenes[]

Both items spawned by the perk are a reference to Wasteland, known for including combat prose like "Rabbit is reduced to a thin red paste" and "Thug explodes like a blood sausage."[1]
