The Whole Sad Story is a challenge in the Fallout: New Vegas add-on Dead Money.
Challenge requirements[]
The Courier must choose specific dialogue options when speaking with Dean Domino, Christine, Dog, and Elijah during Dead Money that leads them to reveal parts of their past histories.
Dialogue triggers[]
- After completing Find Collar 8: "Dog" and using the Prisoner commands holotape to speak with Dog, a Courier with an Intelligence lower than 4 will unlock a dialogue option to speak in Dog's "language" and ask him about coming to the Sierra Madre and meeting Elijah.
- During Curtain Call at the Tampico, when confronting Dean on the backstage stairs after shutting off the security holograms, one must listen to the full story of the entertainer's plans to get the Sierra Madre's treasure. This dialogue is available regardless of whether Dean remains friendly or becomes hostile towards the player character, as long as one acquires the blackmail evidence from the locked safe in his theater dressing room beforehand.
- During Last Luxuries, when meeting Christine in the master suite, one must ask about how she came to the Sierra Madre and why she pursues Elijah. This dialogue is available regardless of whether Christine remains friendly or becomes hostile towards the player character.
- During Heist of the Centuries, after entering the vault chamber and shutting off the security to get Elijah's attention on the computer screen, one must ask about how he came to the Sierra Madre and why the Courier was brought there.

This challenge is not repeatable.
Bugs[]
Upon triggering the completion flag from speaking with Elijah, it is possible to repeat the story again via the darkened speech options to receive an additional point ("You are nothing more than a killer..." thread). This option can then be repeated as many times as necessary, much like Dead Man's Hand, allowing a Courier with a 4 or higher Intelligence to skip both Dog's options and the ones with Christine and Dean and still complete the challenge. A similar bug exists with Dog and his speech option.[verified]
