| The following is based on Fallout 4 cut content. |
"The Wanderer" is a song recorded by Dion DiMucci in 1961 that previously appeared in Fallout 4, broadcast on Diamond City Radio. The song also appeared in the "The Wanderer" trailer prior to the game's release.
"The Wanderer" was present in Fallout 4 from 2015 to 2025, before being patched out of the game with the release of Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition, following licensing and legal issues with the song (see below).
However despite being cut from the main game, the song is still present in Fallout 4 VR, since that version has not received any updates since it launched.
Lyrics[]
Oh, well, I'm the type of guy who will never settle down
Where pretty girls are, well, you know that I'm around
I kiss 'em, and I love 'em, 'cause to me they're all the same
I hug 'em, and I squeeze 'em; they don't even know my name
They call me "The Wanderer"
Yeah, the Wanderer
I roam around, around, around, around
Oh, well, there's Flo on my left arm, and there's Mary on my right-uh
And Janie is the girl, well, that I'll be with tonight-uh
And when she asks me which one I love the best-uh
I'll tear open my shirt, and I show her Rosie on my chest
'Cause I'm a wanderer
Yeah, a wanderer
I roam around, around, around, around
Oh, well, I roam from town to town
I go through life without a care
And I'm as happy as a clown
I with my two fists of iron, but I'm going nowhere
Oh yeah, I'm the type of guy that likes to roam around
I'm never in one place; I roam from town to town
And when I find myself fa-fallin' for some girl
Yeah, I hop right into that car of mine; I drive around the world
Yeah, I'm a wanderer
Yeah, a wanderer
I roam around, around, around, around, around
Let's go, yeah
Oh yeah, I'm the type of guy that likes to roam around
I'm never in one place; I roam from town to town
And when I find myself fa-fallin' for some girl
I hop right into that car of mine; drive around the world
'Cause I'm a wanderer
Yeah, a wanderer
I roam around, around, around, around, around
'Cause I'm a wanderer
Yeah, a wanderer
I roam around, around, around, around, around, around
'Cause I'm a wanderer
I'm a wanderer
Behind the scenes[]
In July 2017, Dion DiMucci filed a lawsuit against ZeniMax Media, Inc. over their use of his song in the 2015 "The Wanderer" trailer for Fallout 4. Dion claimed the trailer neglected his terms for using the song in marketing, because the trailer "featured repeated homicides in a dark, dystopian landscape, where violence is glorified as sport," thus making it apparently objectionable under his marketing terms.[1]
The same month, journalist Justin Woo noted that the official Fallout 4 trailer did not appear to match the description provided by Dion, notably the lack of any "repeated homicides" save for the killing of one Radroach. He hypothesized a similar fan-made video with 2.8 million views at the time, using the same song and official Fallout 4 footage, and was overall easier to find was possibly confused with official Bethesda content as it contained "a body count so high that I’m not even going to bother enumerating it".[2] The 3 minute fan-made video is still available to view (now at 8 million views).[3] The original 60-second trailer was removed from official Bethesda/ZeniMax channels, but is still available to view from various gaming sites.[4]
In January 2018, the Northern California district court granted ZMI's motion to compel arbitration.[5] Ultimately, on November 7, 2018, DiMucci filed a notice of voluntary dismissal with prejudice, withdrawing the suit with no ability to litigate the matter again.[6]
Although there was no direct statement from Bethesda Softworks or ZeniMax Media, these legal issues and further licensing complications were likely contributing factors to the removal of "The Wanderer" from Fallout 4, as it was patched out with the release of Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition in November 2025.[7]
