At the bridge, the objective can be completed in one of two ways:
Across the bridge, disarm the multiple bear traps placed throughout. There are a total of six traps found on both ends of the bridge.
Locate and kill the White Legs sappers laying the traps. Two of the marked enemies are found in a large group to the northeast near the East Fork Bridge, and one is in a smaller group to the south.
Whichever path is chosen, it remains possible to go back and disarm the traps or kill the White Legs after the quest is completed for additional XP. If done so after completing River Monsters, The Advance Scouts, and The Grand Staircase, the main quest Gathering Storms will trigger.

Optional: Disarm the traps on the bridge.
28
Optional: Kill the White Legs planting the traps.
Notes[]
Though they are marked on the compass, the bear traps may be hard to spot against the brown coloring of the ground and bridge, especially at night. The Pip-Boy light can be useful but also may draw attention from any nearby White Legs or creatures.
There can be yao guai and several varieties of gecko in addition to the White Legs that spawn around the bridge. After killing enemies on the bridge, it is possible that their corpses may lie on top of a trap, making it impossible to spot without first moving the bodies.
It is possible to complete both optional parts of the quest, but it requires good timing. While killing the last of the White Legs, the final bear trap can be quickly disarmed. However, this will not result in any extra rewards.
It is possible when entering the area that the quest will suddenly complete without actually doing anything. This is due to the White Legs either being killed by the various creatures around the bridge or simply walking into their own traps.
