"The Man Who Comes Around" is a song that was broadcast on Appalachia Radio in Fallout 76. It played on the radio during the B.E.T.A. phase of the game, but was patched out upon release.[1]
Background[]
The song was written by Tommy Tucker and John Lair and published on November 15, 1939. [2] Additional credits later include Bud Green. Later, it was performed and recorded by Will Osborne's orchestra, which sometimes billed itself on record under the name "Will Osborne and His Slide Music," referring to his unique style of swing music of that name, which centered around sliding trombones and slide trumpets. Will recorded it in December 1939 for Varsity Records. The record was released in February 1940 on Varsity Records, as well as their subsidiary labels Montgomery Ward Records and Continental Records.[3][4][5][6]
The record did not reach any of the hit charts, and received little, if any, actual popularity or notable popular attention. However, due to the nature and the themes of the song, many found it amusing if not offensive. "The Man Who Comes Around" itself became a hit by Tommy Tucker's Orchestra in late 1939 into early 1940. [7]
All recordings for consumers of this song in 1939 and 1940 were made on shellac 78rpm records.
