That smell is a paper note in Fallout 76, introduced in the Expeditions: Atlantic City update part one, Boardwalk Paradise.

The note can be found in the deserted mine at the Crosshair, attached to a crate found when heading straight from the interior entrance.

I can't take the smell anymore. I told Carlos burning the bodies wouldn't help but he didn't listen. They smell like wet dog and burnt plastic while they're still alive.
The gas mask isn't helping either. I'm going outside before I throw up all over myself.
Behind the scenes[]
This note, along with the deserted mine location itself, was originally added to the game's files with the Steel Dawn update, but was not implemented and was left as unused content. It was not added to the live game map until Expeditions: Atlantic City.
