Yes Man

Should we include Yes Man under Major Faction leaders? --Kris User Hola.jpg 18:09, November 8, 2010 (UTC)

Which version to use

There's currently a bit of a disagreement over which version of the template to use: this one, which lists a few major faction characters and then a few assorted others, or this one, which is 13 characters from each faction listed in the order of significance assigned to them by the playing cards. Imo, the second template is far less arbitrary. --Flower of Pock-Lips 12:53, December 4, 2010 (UTC)

Being the one who created this page, I think I should have the biggest say in this. The first version is clearly the correct one. The playing cards are a supplementary material, non-canon and clearly do not nor are intended to accurately represent who the important characters in the game are.

The cards do not represent the entire cast of the game, only the main factions, and thus the choices of characters to appear on the cards is selective compared to their actual importance in the game.

Benny is considered the only other "independent" character besides the Courier, simply because he is the Joker card, even though he is part of the Strip. True, he is secretly plotting against Mr. House, but he still lives on the Strip.

In contrast, Motor-Runner, a complete psychopath whose men are out to kill everyone else, is listed in the cards as part of the "Freeside" faction, but has never been anything other than an openly hostile enemy to them and has never even set foot in New Vegas.

The Kings, Followers of the Apocalypse, Van Graffs, Gun Runners, Crimson Caravan, "Rangers", Chairmen, Omertas, White Glove Society, Praetorian guard, Frumentarii and Speculatores are all included on the cards and therefore this other version of the template, despite not even being people at all but groups!

Several incidental and minor characters are featured on the cards while numerous more prominent characters are absent, only because all the characters used have to belong to a select few main factions, to fit the four-house card system. Thus, they really had to scrape the bottom of the barrel to find enough characters from each.

Dixon, Siri, Jules, Pacer, Jane and Marilyn, Canyon Runner and even Ulysses, who isn't even in the fucking game, are all included in this template, while Victor, Papa Khan and the Great Khans, the Brotherhood of Steel and the Boomers, all important characters directly involved in the main storyline and with much more screentime and dialogue than any of the previous group I listed, are absent. Even Yes Man, one of the most popular and important characters in the game, isn't on here.

This template is a list of the major characters of Fallout: New Vegas, just like its title says, not a template for the playing cards. If you want to make a template for the playing cards, go ahead, but I think it's very obvious which "version" of this template is more appropriate.ResonX 20:14, December 11, 2010 (UTC)
