Tank Killer is a Perception-based perk in Fallout 76.

It was also available as a perk in the defunct Nuclear Winter battle royale mode.

Effects[]

Tank Killer reduces the physical and energy[Non-game 1] Damage Resistance of a target and adds a chance to stagger the target. However, it does not change the target's radiation, poison, frost, or fire resistances.

Due to Damage Resistance being sublinear, the impact of this perk on damage output is, in general, significantly less than the equivalent rank in a proper damage-buffing perk, or even buying ranks 2 or 3 of said perk, despite them being inferior to rank 1. Expressed as a damage percent increase in line with a perk such as Archer (so as an equivalent to a multiplier on damage before resistance is calculated), here are the effects of each rank:

  1. 3.48%
  2. 7.61%
  3. 12.67%

Ranks[]

Rank Description Form ID
1 Your rifles and pistols ignore 12% armor and have a 3% chance to stagger. 0031D4BC
2 Your rifles and pistols ignore 24% armor and have a 6% chance to stagger. 001D61E3
3 Your rifles and pistols ignore 36% armor and have a 9% chance to stagger. 001D61E8
Nuclear Winter battle-royale Your rifles ignore 40% armor. 00479B5D

Notes[]

  • For automatic rifles and pistols, the stagger chance is 1/3 of the stated value on the perk card; i.e. with Tank Killer 1, the perk card states a stagger rate of 3%, which is true for semi-automatic rifles and pistols. For automatic rifles and pistols, the stagger rate is 1%.
  • Due to armor penetration being multiplicative, stacking Tank Killer with Anti-Armor or certain weapon mods will result in diminishing returns.
  • As of patch 1.4.0.20, the Adventure mode variant of the perk applies to pistols as well as rifles.
  • Although the perk card art for Tank Killer depicts a R91 assault rifle, this weapon is not available in the game.

Bugs[]

PCPC Playstation 4Playstation 4 Xbox OneXbox One As of patch 1.4.0.20, the Adventure mode variant of Tank Killer 3 will not provide the 9% stagger chance for semi-automatic pistols, as it is missing the WeaponTypePistol keyword required to apply the stagger to that weapon type. The keyword is present for the 3% stagger rate for automatic pistols and will work as expected for automatic pistols as such.[verified]
