It's probably a bug, but I crept in on Gary 47 and I was still undetected when he said "Don't point that thing at me." a second before I shot him.

Note

It's not a lowercase lamda on the door. It's just shifted (for unknown reason - maybe a bug) shader which emulates shining.
To be more precise - it's shifted towards the top-right corner.

Confirmed, the bump map and specular map of vault 108's door are misaligned. I edit the comment.
Plus, there is wild speculation that does not rely on in-game data, which therefore has nothing to do in the factual page.
Original text :
There is a lowercase "Ы" symbol painted across the numbers on the Vault's main door.
It is theorized that due to the internal strife Gary was clone to perform menial tasks to make up for the population loss.
This is likely due to the fact that most vaults hold around 1000 people yet somehow 54 insane clones over powered them.

I agree. I took out the speculation regarding Gary 1. This isn't a fanfic page. FistFullofNovocain 23:32, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

Another possibility regarding the clones is that perhaps Vault-Tec included the cloning technology in the vault to begin with, to get a better grasp of how a large number of people, identical in 'every' way, would have a power struggle. - Anon 21:51, 28 January 2009 (US EST, GMT-6)

Being John Malkovich

I was about to come here and add something about this being a possible reference to being john malkovich and it's already here :D 82.34.116.4 19:10, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

Looks like the Malkovich has been removed. I guess unless we can get someone at Bethesda to confirm the reference, it's all speculation. --Ayumix 20:33, 10 February 2009 (UTC) (PS. It would have been cool if when you exited Vault 108, you're dumped off in the middle of nowhere near a highway. :).

Tumbler's Today

I really hope this isn't one of the 30 or however many scattered throughout the game, as I'm a 360 player and after blowing it up with plasma mines and the like for about 10 minutes agree that it is inaccessible.

It's not TOTALLY inaccessible. I play on 360 and was able to get it with 3 frag mines, 3 pulse mines, and a pulse grenade. The explosion didn't blow it out of the corner, but it did knock it into a position where I could pick it up.--PwnzerfaustMonk 20:25, 12 February 2009 (UTC)
Care to share your method? (where you placed the mines, what part of the step-ladder the book was sticking out on) I've been trying to do this for at least an hour with no success. Of course, I only have access to frag mines from vendors atm. --Xethan 06:35, 14 March 2009 (UTC)
Finally got this to work (360), so I'll share my own method. I used 2 frag grenades on the other side of the wall from the step-ladder. I would bounce one on the ground, and then throw one high immediately after. That way, by the time the high one got over the bounced one, the bounced one's explosion would set the other off. The book was not entirely visible (probably standing up on it's end), poking through the side of the step-ladder, next to the crate. I didn't see it, but I happened to hover over it when I picked it up. --Xethan 07:15, 14 March 2009 (UTC)
I use a PC and while I could use the console to do this... it just felt wrong. So I tried the explosives method. The following worked for me. (once at least - which was all I needed to prove it to myself) I set 10 frag mines on the other side of the wall, just to the right of the twin pipes running up at that point. Mostly they were stacked on top of each other, a few mines toppled over but I don't think it mattered. I backed off and lobbed a frag grenade to the right of them - more into the true corner. Then when I went and checked it was lying on top of the bottom rung of the step ladder. I'm not sure if it mattered but I did have demo expert @ level 3. Maybe using more explosives or a higher grade would work if you don't have demo expert 3? But then I had tried using frag grenades inside the room just trying to lob them down the sides of the stepladder for minutes to no avail. Then tried 10 frag mines mostly in the corner detonated from afar by a Hunting Rifle. I gave that about 5 goes and had no luck. I then tried using a Fat Man from the other side for a while - also no good. Then did the above and it worked first go. Since the Fat Man display of raw power didn't work I think its quantity of explosions that matters more to get the physics engine to glitch. Possibly different types of explosions matters more? (since I did muck around with lots of frag mines for quite some time) Lots of Frag Mines might all get calculated as one big explosion but adding the the frag grenade was a different explosion type that it didn't stack into the frag mine effect and got calculated moments after? Or maybe it was the location of the mines just to the right of the twin pipes rather than right in the corner. In which case - Good luck if you attempt the same. You'll just have to fluke it. On any future game I'll just be using the console command tcl. --Mandrake 09:54, 6 Jan 2010 (UTC)
I think this is true, that multiple large explosion types glitch the physics engine. I've been fiddling with frag grenades and frag mines for a half hour. I incorporated my pulse mines and got it out first try. 198.53.160.96 07:06, January 24, 2010 (UTC)

Could it not be entirely fesible for PC users to utilise the 'noclip' console command to get this? Something to include on the actual page maybe? 91.85.183.187 19:09, September 9, 2009 (UTC)

Raider corpse?

Supposedly, there's the corpse of a raider north of 108 that has some sort of note on it. I've explored every inch of the area ALL around the vault, from the Corvega Factory to the Robot Repair Center, and I never found a damn thing.

If I remember correctly it is a little south of 108. Bottrot 22:13, 24 May 2009 (UTC)

Gary 41 bug?

I know there have been some problems with Garys talking in normal voices, but this one is just wierd. I'm sneaking through the Vault (100 sneak w/ the stealth suit) and I point my rifle at Gary 41. He looks dead at me, says "Don't point that thing at me!"

I checked my stealth meter, and I was undetedted. I sat, shocked, for a second, then fired. 68.103.131.22 11:01, 14 April 2009 (UTC)

Gary 25 said the same to me as I was aiming the Dart Gun. Totally stealthed. ComaDivine 09:52, February 9, 2010 (UTC)

moved from article

  1. Moved from article:

*Wearing the Chinese Stealth Suit and using any scoped weapon I was able to get the Gary clones to say more than just "Gary". When scoped in for a head shot (not using VATS), sometimes having to wait a moment, the Gary clones will look at you and say one of the following phrases: "That's not a good idea." "Don't point that thing at me." "Hey knock it off." "Easy there." " What do you think you're doing?" "Be careful with that." I was a little startled and disturbed when this first happened to me. I was using the Perforator and just before I took the shot Gary 43 turned to me and said "Don't point that thing at me." This did not reveal my location to the other clones but non-the-less I was still a bit surprised. I reloaded several times, even went back to my house and picked up every scoped weapon I had and retried this. It worked everytime, with every scoped weapon. This was done with and without other clones around, while crouching still.(360)

It's in first person and doesn't make a whole lot of sense, this has already been discovered as well, if anyone disagrees please change it to 3rd person and re-add--Glewis 17:46, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

I agree with the move DragonJTS 17:46, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

First-person usage alone would be enough to get rid of it IMO. --MadCat221 22:01, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

combat armour?

I've been looking for a long while now, is the information correct about the combat armour being in the cloning labs? Or is it not in a locker? Am i just being dumb or....?--Glewis 17:50, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

It's there, but I wasn't paying attention to where I picked it up exactly. It WAS in the cloning lab, and IIRC it was probably a locker. Anyway, combat armor is not hard to find, so it's not a big deal if you miss it. 24.6.4.179 06:29, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

A Gary Family

Has anyone tried naming their character Gary at the beginning of the game? If so, would they recognize you as a fellow Gary instead of a non-Gary? Creepypasta 01:10, 10 June 2009 (UTC) I tried even Harry, but this didn't work :D Actually Garys are always hostile.

Ironic?

I just realized it's kinda ironic that you find the Charisma Bobblehead here, since the only thing the Garys can say is "Gary" and are hostile and not charismatic at all... :P213.65.69.18 19:37, 22 June 2009 (UTC)

The Charisma theme likely comes into play from the fact that the social portion of the Vault 108 experiment was meant to test vying for leadership and/or dominance in the event of a power vacuum. Either that or you're right and it's meant to be completely ironic. =P -Schneidend 09:50, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

Vault Door

For me on the 360 the vault door opened and closed perfectly fine if the door itself was activated, the control pod did nothing though.

Yeah i also found this happening. weird. 173.71.75.54 12:43, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

ghouls?

I was at the entrance and went threw one of the doors, to find a mole rat running against a wall with its attacking motion. i didnt understand this till i heard a ghoul yell and saw a bit of him coming out of the wall. i killed the mole rat and if i stood there i cood hear the ghoul yelling and running but he was trapped halfway in the wall. i coodnt vats him or shoot him so i just kept going.

Sorry, I just had to mess with the formula. XP

In regards to your question, there aren't any ghouls in the Vault, only Garys. There might be one or two dead ones, so there may have been a spawn bug. Nitty 03:32, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

Weird Wastelander

I was heading out of vault 108 when I heard a rapid drumming noise and turned left. In the wall was the body of a wastelander, stuck in the wall, with his head going left to right hitting the wall. It was at the entrance to vault 108. --Rbird090 05:13, 15 August 2009 (UTC)Rbird090

random speculation moved from article

It could also have been that with the Overseer destined to die soon after and the larger weapons stock than in other Vaults, that the people would have been observed and seen how they would have reacted in the possible resulting power vacuum, or to claim positions they felt were rightfully theirs if they had not been given them, with no entertainment tapes to distract the dwellers it would have led to a breakdown of relationships between people much faster. The Gary's could possibly have factored into this as part of the experiment to see if the Vault Dwellers could put aside their differences and unite against a common threat. Of course this is just speculation.

"With the exception of Gary 1 and three other random Garys, all other clones initially use melee weapons. Their AI, however, may direct them to pick up stronger weapons." (Moved back to article because this is true about them). Ganon12788 04:24, September 13, 2009 (UTC)

--Kingclyde 04:04, September 13, 2009 (UTC)

One does wonder what happened to all the armoury? Theres only one gun and, like, 40 bullets in the whole Vault. Must have been one hellofa fight.Kahlzun 15:34, March 14, 2010 (UTC)

Aliens in vault 108!?

When i went to the vault 108,something really weird and scary happend to me.It may be a bug, idk. When i was exploring the cloning labs nothing strange i was just walking, but then i suddenly picked up the recon ship theta signal,so i turned it on and it was same...thought its a bug,but then i turned it off and walked back few steps to the door that i come from but than suddenly and unexpectibly, dead alien appeared right behind me(this scared the shit out of me XD)!It didnt had anything. No alien blaster,no alien cells...even firelance...just nothing. When i exited the vault i lost the signal. After this thing happpend,i went to the alien ship crash site. The alien was there and the signal was normal. So i went back to vault and the alien wasnt there...mayby just bug. NOTE:When i firstly entered the vault i already discovered the alien crash site.

(confirmed, happened the same to me but to me it was really wired, because i ACTUALLY FOUND aliens from Mothership Zeta!!!. I have the Mothership Zeta of course (PS3 GOTY))

Ive had aliens as well, im thinking maby the garys have somthing to do with them.

Malkovitch vs. other behind the scenes candidates

[Here] is a video showing the similarity between the movie Being John Malkovitch and the Gary clones. South Park's Timmy and the British comedy lack the high degree of similarity, so I took them out of the section.--Gothemasticator 09:53, November 23, 2009 (UTC)

Trivia

Vault 108 is the only Vault in Fallout 3 without a functioning computer terminal. Or did I miss something? ComaDivine 09:57, February 9, 2010 (UTC)

Just goes to prove it. Children: Never trust clones to perform proper computer maintenance. They never defrag.Kahlzun 15:37, March 14, 2010 (UTC)

Where's Gary?

On the Vault 108 page, it says that the Garys will often say "Here's Gary!" before attacking. Really? I've gone in that vault at least a hundred times on over 10 different characters, and the only things I've heard them say is "Haha Gary!", Ah, Gary!" and "Gary!" when they first see me. I've even went in and proved it with the subtitles on. They have never said this when they first see me, when they are looking for me, when they find me, or when they die. If this is console specific then please specify( I have PC and PS3). Also, if it's true, shouldn't it be on their NPC page instead? Speaking of their NPC page, I haven't heard them ever say "There you are Gary" either. Insane Survivors 22:21, March 1, 2010 (UTC)

Open Vault

I've played on PS3 and 360 versions and the door was open every time over three or four different characters' playthroughs, and I spotted something that leads me to believe that the door is meant to be open. In the cloning labs, in the makeshift-looking medical bay, there is a dead Wastelander on a table. There is no way someone from the Wastelands could come in unless he had the code for the door, so presumably the door was opened from the inside some time before the Lone Wanderer got there. Perhaps the vault staff decided to get out while they could and scattered all over the wastes, or maybe the Garys overpowered the security and opened the door. Either way, I'd like to know if the door is found closed or open for different players, which more than the other, because it seems to me that the door is meant to be open. Just a thought. Chiliflamingo 21:44, April 22, 2010 (UTC)

Just played the Operation Anchorage add-on and there's even a Gary in the Outcast building. More evidence that the vault is open. Surely? Chiliflamingo 22:02, April 26, 2010 (UTC)

Gary 27

I found Gary 27 with 2 scoped magnums, can this be considered a glitch when the article says that theres 3 other random clones?
